Now, on to the original description, already in progress... Cory and Lou talk about the 1989 CLASSIC Look Who's Talking. Spoiler alert we both like it, but maybe Lou loves it?!

Hi Everyone. After years of teasing, I finally got to sit down and talk to Ms. Heckerling. Yes, the director of Fast Times at Ridgemont High (which The Nightfly consistently plays clips from), European Vacation, Johnny Dangerously, Look Who's Talking and of course the director and writer of Clueless. She was great. Really fun and forthcoming. I think it's a really great interview once I got to calm down a bit. Look folks, when you have the writer and director of your favorite movie right in front of you. . . it's hard to relax. Hope you like it and Happy New Year everyone! Anna and Em from the Shelf Aware podcast join the show again. This time together to talk the 1993 comedy Look Who's Talking Now! This is a movie set during Christmas, with talking dogs, but aimed at an adult audience. So what could possibly go wrong? A lot, actually! From controversial co-stars to awkward doggy sperm sequences, this movie brings up a lot of questions, most of which have nothing to do with Christmas. But the most important question plaguing our minds... 90s John Travolta: Hot or not? Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. Today, I decided to cover the next entry in the Look Who's Talking Trilogy, Look Who's Talking Too which was released in 1990 a year after Look Who's Talking (1989). Movie Synopsis: This time, a new baby is on the way, and it's a girl. Wrapped together with the standard conflict between mother and father, Mikey engages in a bit of sibling rivalry with his new sister. We also get the return of Molly's parents and Molly's friend Ron from the first movie, as well as a couple new characters, Molly's brother Stuart and Mikey's new friend Eddie (Voiced by Damon Wayans). Gilbert Godfrey guests as the the owner of the Baby Gym that Molly takes Mikey to and boy oh boy is this guy annoying, screaming at the kids, threatening to slap them, talking about having a heart attack multiple times and this is all speaking to toddlers. Molly's brother is... wow, I really have no words other than he is an (out of work accountant)a major dumb dumb, living on Molly and James's couch and threatening to shoot anyone who walks through their door including and not limited to James coming home from work and Roda coming to stay after her place is robbed, mind you with an unloaded gun with toddlers in the house. WTF! Baby Julie (voiced by Roseanne Barr) is amazingly hilarious in this movie, I can't see anyone else doing her voice. While reviewing this movie I do recall the tv version which I remember had deleted scenes that weren't in the theatrical cut. If love Elvis Presley, this is the movie for you, we have two Elvis Song Montages (James With "All Shook Up" At The Baby Gym) and(Molly With "Are You Lonesome Tonight?) while missing James and watching old romantic black and white movies in bed), so many song montages, ("I Love Being A Girl") Molly and Julie Dress Up For James/Daddy Montage) and Mikey's (Jealous Guy) Look Who's Talking/Look Who's Talking Too Flashback Montage. Not to mention James and Molly are always calling each other Elvis and Priscilla. I had a fun time covering this movie and hope you all enjoy it too. Stay tuned for December 2020, next month, I'll be covering the final movie in the trilogy Look Who's Talking Now (1993). Have a great week everyone and continue to stay safe. In Episode 8 of Healthy Work, we discuss a recent paper by Du, Bakker, & Derks (2020) that found that having positive experiences with children, AND talking about them helped people perform better the next day at work and handle work demands better. This phenomenon of positive experiences at home helping you be better at work is called work-to-family enrichment.
Forget Boss Baby, the 80s did talking baby movies first. Listen to our version of the classic talking baby film, Look Who's Talking! Long before Battlefield Earth and Broken Arrow, John Travolta had an EVEN MORE iconic role as Taxi man James Ubriacco. What happens when Nic Cage does a favor for his first-time filmmaker brother Chris Coppola, but derails it with a performance so bizarre it makes Vampire’s Kiss look like Leaving Las Vegas? Well, this week on the podcast, Nathan and Clint find out with the help of guest and friend of the show Scout Tafoya (RogerEbert.com), as we talk about Deadfall and Look Who’s Talking Now! Two films at widely disparate ends of the Travolta/Cage spectrum, Deadfall and Look Who’s Talking Now feel like adventures at different points in the same gonzo dimension. In Deadfall, we follow a con man (a bland Michael Biehn) roped into grifts within grifts thanks to his unscrupulous uncle (James Coburn) and Cage’s Eddie King, a figure of cosmic weirdness and inconcievable line deliveries. And then there’s Look Who’s Talking Now, the execrable final entry in the Look Who’s Talking series, where the focus shifts off the kids (who are too old to have Bruce Willis and Roseanne in their brains) and onto a pair of dogs (Danny DeVito and Diane Keaton) living out the Lady and the Tramp dream while Travolta and Kirstie Alley’s marriage collapses in real time. It’s cuckoo bananas in an entirely disparate orbit from Deadfall, and yet we gab about it all the same. Take a listen! Look Who’s Talking by Megan Marz Discussions of UX tend to focus on how things look and how they work, but the way they sound or read is just as meticulously designed. Often the aim of "sounding human" and "being clear" serves to disguise how interfaces are manipulative and skewed toward the company's interest, while also reinforcing biased universalist assumptions. Diane Keaton delivers an Oscar-worthy performance as a french poodle in the third installment of the Look Who's Talking franchise. Actually, she's barely in the movie...woops? Still, we had a pretty decent time unpacking this 90s dud and discovering toddler Euro-pop sensation JORDY!
One of the things we’ve learned about Travolta and Cage during this project is that they’re both, in their own way, Elvis figures: they’re handsome, song-and-dance men who occupy a kind of irresistible masculinity and cultural supremacy in their prime. Never is that clearer than this week’s doozy of a double-feature, as film and TV critic Odie Henderson (RogerEbert.com, Vulture) helps us break down Look Who’s Talking Too and Honeymoon in Vegas! The podcast’s very first sequel, Look Who’s Talking Too sees young Travolta and Kirstie Alley juggling work and young parenthood as their first baby, Mikey (Bruce Willis, talking for the baby long after he develops speech of his own), grows up just in time to welcome his little sister Julie (a grating Roseanne Barr) into the world. Get ready for baby genitalia jokes and Elias Koteas as a Reaganite Travis Bickle type, and for an 80-minute movie to feel like three hours. Thankfully, we’ve got the deceptively lo-fi charms of Honeymoon in Vegas to contend with, as Nic Cage tries to overcome his mother’s deathbed promise never to marry by getting hitched in Sin City with his longtime girlfriend (Sarah Jessica Parker), only to get roped into a “Dangerous Liaisons” situation with high-stakes gambler James Caan that’ll take Cage to Hawaii and back (thanks to a plane full of flying Elvises). Which film’s our good luck charm, and which goes down in a hunka-hunka-burning flames? Listen and find out! Travolta and Cage fly high this week, as their filmic timelines finally align with two 1989-’90 films in which they play pilots! After a few dour years, Travolta struck gold with Look Who’s Talking, the Amy Heckerling-directed tale of a young single mom in New York (a pre-insanity Kirstie Alley) looking for a good dad for her baby son Mikey (voiced by an all-too-lewd Bruce Willis), and possibly finding it in Travolta’s happy-go-lucky cab driver/aspiring flight instructor. Then, of course, there’s Fire Birds, the 1990 action vehicle/Top Gun riff in which Nicolas Cage plays a hotshot Army helicopter pilot (a maverick, if you will) training to fly the Apache helicopter so the Army can roll into Colombia to take down the (German?) drug cartel leader who killed Cage’s partner. It even opens with a George W. Bush quote, which might be the free space on everyone’s “American jingoism” bingo card. At least Tommy Lee Jones is having fun, though! Podcasting/video game creature creation magnate Justin McElroy (My Brother, My Brother, and Me, Monster Factory) climbs into the cockpit to help us break down that one time Travolta launched a hugely successful family-film franchise at the same time Cage engaged in brain-dead propaganda for the War on Drugs. Our main man John Travolta finds his way back onto the list, with 1993's "Look Who's Talking Now," the third in the Look trilogy, also starring fellow Scientologist Kirstie Alley. In the first films, it was babies who talked. Now, it's dogs! Basketballer Charles Barkley is also in this movie. Danny DeVito and Diane Keaton play the voices of some dogs. It's a... romantic comedy? About cheating on your wife and accidentally telling your kids that Santa isn't real. Hey Everyone, Today, I'm celebrating and honoring Mother's Day by covering the first movie in the Look Who's Talking trilogy, Look Who's Talking which was released in 1989 and starred Kirstie Alley and John Travolta and Bruce Willis providing the amazing voice of Mikey. This week an old friend of ours Brian Eggo from Glasgow Skeptics joins us to bring you a show packed with news, thoughts and curiousities. We talk about how Skeptics in the Pub events are going online, that one time Rupert Sheldrake got stabbed and how Pope Francis has nothing to offer to help with the pandemic. After the usual COVID-19 update we talk about how Sweden takes a different approach to the disease than most, why the Royal Astrologer should not be trusted, and how a German consumer reported homeopaths for offering sugar pills to avoid infection. We also talk about Massimo Polidoro's new video series, "OK Scienza", Britt Marie Hermes' law suit and the Skeptics Legal Defence initiative by the Australian Skeptics Inc. We mention how French skeptics at AFiS respond to a fake treatment Trump and Bolsonaro both promote, Fullfact brings you a list of guidelines to fact-checking and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences translates the mythbusting site of WHO. Unfortunately, the WHO also gets the prize for being Really Wrong for removing the advice not to use Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) against Covid-19.
