You're listening to the table read of Common Enemy written by Jordan Roter (Girl in Development author, American Housewife, The Watchful Eye). Common Enemy is a multi-generational family comedy about three generations of the same family going through their own version of puberty at the same time. This is a great network family show that totally pushes the envelope of what you can do in that space. It's a great script, with great energy. Sean Keane! Comedian! Writer! Podcaster! Friend! Delight! More! Sean is a funny friend and a great comedian with a new standup album out (his debut!) RIGHT NOW! It's called "America's Uncle Dad" and here's some more info about it! ABOUT AMERICA'S UNCLE DAD: Sean Keane is a Bay Area native, and America's Uncle Dad is very much a Bay Area album. It was recorded at the Punch Line in San Francisco and everyone the world over can relate to Sean's lampooning of mass transit, (white) yoga culture, psychedelics, growing up with an adorable lisp, and a truly riotous take-down of a Simon and Garfunkel classic that we promise will forever change how you hear the song. Keane grew up in the East Bay and moved to San Francisco. He started putting on stand-up shows in college at Berkeley, where he was the editor-in-chief of the campus humor magazine, The Heuristic Squelch. He currently lives in Oakland with his fiancé and their Aussie doodle puppy, Pinot Noir. Sean began doing stand-up himself in 2005 when he “...stopped just writing funny things for the internet or magazines and started actually saying them into a microphone in public…it turns out you start doing stand-up comedy by just doing stand-up comedy”. We're certainly glad he did, and the material he has crafted and honed since then makes America's Uncle Dad a remarkable and hilarious debut, and Sean is sure to be your favorite of all your relatives. MORE ABOUT SEAN KEANE: Sean Keane is a writer, stand-up comedian and co-host of the Roundball Rock NBA podcast. He has contributed to "Another Period," "Billy On The Street," NBC, Comedy Central, ESPN The Magazine and McSweeney's. In 2014, the SF Bay Guardian named him the best comedian in San Francisco, then immediately went out of business. We had a great chat! You can have a great listen! This story is by the writer Erin Somers. She has a novel, Stay Up with Hugo Best, and has been published in The Paris Review, The New Yorker and elsewhere. Performing it, we've got two actors who found the funny with both the words and each other. The first, Paget Brewster, is best known for her role on Criminal Minds. Additionally, she has appeared on Friends, Community and Comedy Central's Another Period. Playing off her is Andy Richter, known for his years on Conan and Late Night with Conan O'Brien; but has also appeared in cult classics like Cabin Boy and done many voiceovers for animated movies like Madagascar. The episode is hosted by Aparna Nancherla. The story was recorded at SketchFest in San Francisco.
DaveP, Ian & Mark debate a games against the Lions which for every minute was as dire as the previous game at St. Andrews where the home side set up for the draw that probably kept Rooney in a job for the next 100 hours!!! We're no further forward than under Pearson and for all his so called advanced tactical nous Manning does not seem to have a Plan B. 7000 chose to pay on the day looking at the Brum game as a blip which sadly it wasn't - I wonder how many of them will rock up at Ashton Gate to be entertained against Watford on 20th January. We look forward to our "big day out" at West Ham and it's Deja vu when talking about transfers - "shopping in League 1, won't pay prem wages for loanees".

I'm thrilled to have Eban Schletter on the latest episode of the Wheel. Eban has worked on Mr. Show, SpongeBob, Another Period, and another example. More importantly, he composed my favorite Halloween album, Eban Schletter's Witching Hour. We talk about the challenges of scoring a movie, our mutual love of Ennio Morricone, and the challenges of breathing with a theremin. Eban brings to the show So Long Dad, off of Randy's eponymous album. Behind the son's cheery disposition, is there contempt for his old man? Or is this kid just really really good at setting boundaries? Plus Manfred Mann enters the chat.
The season seven playoffs roll on as Ross, Jon, and Derek square off to determine the winner of the Monster Division. We'll take a trip back in time to the community sports programs of our youths before going even further back in time to quiz about pop culture portrayals of Albert Einstein. They'll make you say "Yahoo!" Seriously. Round two asks our players to name pop culture properties based on the titles of the fictional books found within them. All of that, plus the customary but nonetheless vibrant and exciting, lightning round! NOTES ⚠️ Inline notes below may be truncated due to podcast feed character limits. Full notes are always on the episode page. ⚽️ Ladybugs is also a rare movie role for legendary Dodger's coach Tommy Lasorda. But he was on Arli$$ multiple times!

We are joined by Lauren Flans (Wild 'n Out, Another Period) of the Coming Out With Lauren & Nicole podcast to discuss her favorite musical, Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music, but will the film adaptation hold up? The 1977 Academy Award-winning film brought along Broadway director Harold Prince and a couple original cast members, as well as the star power of Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Rigg, but was it enough? We'll discuss all of it, including what changed from stage to screen, why Madame Armfeldt rules, Marc's first experience seeing STAR WARS, what carom billiards even is, how Ryan is 1 degree away from Lesley-Anne Down, and why you should never trust a little girl with your personal secrets! Plus, who is Team Liz or Team Diana? Also, isn't it rich? Are we a pair?

There is a trigger warning at the top of this episode regarding suicide, as the poem in this week's episode deals directly with the topic. The discussion surrounding the subject is that of respect for the author's history, but also how the author chose a humorous lens to reflect a dark subject matter. Elizabeth is eager to introduce her longtime friend, Lauren Flans. Lauren is a contemporary multi-hyphenate. She was a recurring cast member on MTV's Wild ‘n Out and Comedy Central's Another Period. She's an active member of Lost Moon Radio, which is a live comedy and music group in LA and is the current co-host of Coming Out with Lauren and Nicole, a podcast where they host queer folks from all walks of life to tell the tales of how they came out. In their discussion of Dorothy Parker's Resume Lauren notes how the author would likely be cancelled on Twitter, how being bitter and snarky made Parker hopelessly cool, and how she voluntarily offers poetry collections to friends. There are musings on Lauren's longtime crush on Jennifer Jason Leigh and Elizabeth shares a sexy little John Keats line. “[Dorothy Parker] was smart and had this caustic wit and was living in the 1920's when everything was repressed and she was like ‘Fuck everything!' and I just thought that was hopelessly cool.” -Lauren Flans Timestamps: 00:00:00 Trigger Warning (Suicide) 00:00:48 Guest Introduction 00:03:05 Poem Reading (Lauren) 00:03:35 Author Info 00:04:50 Lauren's Relationship to the Poem 00:14:50 Pause / Poem Reading (Elizabeth) 00:16:30 Reflection & Offering Poem & Links: Resume by Dorothy Parker (© 1926) Ode to a Nightingale by John Keats (© 1819) The Portable Dorothy Parker Far From Well (Parker's Review of The House at Pooh Corner) Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (Film © 1994) The Algonquin Round Table I.O.P. Show business finally clicked for Riki Lindhome when she started the comedy music duo Garfunkel and Oates with her friend Kate Micucci. It makes sense because, as she tells Marc, she always wanted to perform when she was growing up in Buffalo, catching glimpses of musical theater from touring companies in Toronto. Riki and Marc talk about Shakespeare, Clint Eastwood, depression, and her show Another Period. Also, Laurie Kilmartin is back to talk about her new book and have a few laughs about death.
