At the foot of the Aberdare mountains in Kenya, about an hour's drive to Lake Naivasha, a youth group is encouraging farmers to preserve the grasslands to conserve the Sharpe's Longclaw bird species. The Njambini Wool Crafters buy wool from these farmers to ensure they generate income through sheep-keeping. The group produces yarns made of raw sheep wool. These yarns are sold to curio shop operators or woven into blankets, carpets, rugs, throw blankets, scarves, shawls, and socks.Samuel Bakari, an ecologist with the Friends of Kinangop Plateau, told the Africa Climate Conversations that in 2000 BirdLife international records showed between 10-20,000 mature Sharpe's longclaw birds in Kenya. Today over 20 years later, Bakari says this number has reduced to less than 2000 individuals. XEbAAPN2zmIgtP1nZXmg

This week, Randy and Jens finally examine a relatively well-regarded video game adaptation. W2MNet's Marc Morrison calls it "one of the top 5 best video game adaptations." Meninists call it "the one that beat Birds of Prey." It made 320 million dollars worldwide. Is this exalted status justified? Jens has a laundry list of reasons why the answer is "no," but Randy's gut says "maybe." Listen for more.

It's double trouble as we get our first dual chapters from a POV. Join Jon waving goodbye to friends and making himself feel better with Longclaw. Watch Tyrion embark on a new and even more important part of his journey. Forget the first two entirely because DAVOS IS BACK. Where is he? What's he doing? Who cares? DAVOS IS BACK! Then end as we began, back on the Wall for a brand new fire show from Stannis and Melisandre. Today's chapters are: - Jon II - Tyrion III - Davos I - Jon III Step aboard the Isle this week for a discussion on comic books, the introduction of the incredibly important Kill the Boy mantra, an assessment of the greatest evidence we ever get for Young Griff being Illyrio's son: candied ginger, some thinking on what would have happened had Stannis hung around down south until Tywin died, and finally how Stannis' hollow offer to the wildlings reflects his own hollow hero's journey, no matter how fancy the fire looks. The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Jon gets a pardon and a shiny new sword from Jeor Mormont. His buddies are all excited but Jon is preoccupied with news from the south. Maester Aemon sympathizes and reveals a shocker. Simon and Mackelly continue their watch. Chapter Review: Jon has burned his hand in finally killing off Othor. While he's nursing it, Lord Commander Mormont presents him with a sword. It is the family sword of the Mormonts, it too was burned but the Valyrian steel survived. The new handle replaces the bear with a direwolf. Jon decides to keep the name, Longclaw, as it works as well for a wolf as a bear. Even better news for Jon is that Alliser Thorne has been sent to King's Landing to make the case for more troops, with the help of Jafar Flowers' trusty and un-decomposing hand. Jon is very concerned about the latest rumors from the south: Robb calling the banners and marching south to fight for their father. Jon is summoned to help maester Aemon feed his ravens. The old man reminds Jon of his vows. Jon doesn't think Aemon understands, but the maester reveals that he is Aemon Targaryen so, yeah, he's had a few family setbacks that he has had to endure in his time at the wall. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Eddard "Ned" Stark - Erstwhile hand of the King, Lord of Winterfell, and deceased King Robert's closest friend. Currently languishing in a King's Landing cell for treason. Jon Snow - Bastard son of Ned Stark. Recently sworn brother of the Night's Watch. Samwell Tarly - Brother of the Night's Watch. Heavy-set and cowardly. Attendant to maester Aemon. Friend to Jon Snow. Ser Jeor Mormont - Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Ser Alliser Thorne - Master of Arms for the Night's Watch. Mean-spirited instructor of the new recruits. Not a fan of Jon Snow. Maester Aemon - 100 year-old maester of the Night's Watch. Now revealed to be Aemon Targaryen. Ghost - Jon Snow's direwolf. Castle Black - Headquarters of the Night's Watch at the Wall. Support the podcast. Buy a bit of merch from our store. My sister is back in action! We break down the very sad ending as Ned suffers the same fate as Petey from Dumb and Dumber and...loses his head. We also discuss our crazy witch neighbor, how Joffrey is the absolute WORST, and of course, many comparisons to the Harry Potter world. Most notably, the sword Longclaw is easily a stand in for the Elder Wand. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Brotherhood Without Manners, your favorite full spoiler reread podcast of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series is back with the next chapter from Game of Thrones. As we draw ever closer to the end of the first book we join Jon Snow with the Lord Commander a short time after the walking corpse attacked. Jon is presented with the Valyrian steel sword, Longclaw. Finally, Jon has a talk with Maester Aemon in which the ancient man blesses our poor naive boy with some well worded wisdom. As always we give our chapter inductees and read out listener emails. Andrew and Manu travel to the Wall in "Baelor" through the eyes of Jon Snow. Since he saved Lord Commander Mormont, the Old Bear gifts him the Valyrian sword Longclaw, a Mormont family heirloom. They talk about the sword and Alliser Thorne, and afterward, Jon learns from Sam that Robb Stark is marching south. Conflicted, Jon is summoned by Maester Aemon, who has a heart-to-heart with him in which he explains his Targaryen roots and the similar hardships he faced watching from the Wall as his house fell to ruin during Robert's Rebellion. Every word from the late Peter Vaughan is chilling and moving, so we try to give this moment its due. It's incredible and chalk full of connections to the story writ large. Let's get to it. Jon talks with Jorah about Jeor Mormont and tries to give him Longclaw back in season 7 (which we also touched upon in our podcast recap of that episode) Helpful video with graphics explaining the Targaryen family tree (Note: The show simplifies it by skipping a generation and making the Mad King the son of Maester Aemon's younger brother Aegon the Unlikely, rather than the grandson) Once more: Manu's appearance on the "Not a Cast" podcast discussing Bran IV Just watch the scene with Maester Aemon and Jon again. It's too perfect. iTunes link Google Play link

In episode 054, Matt and Scad cry on each other’s shoulders as Jon and Sam are separated once again at the wall, Brienne gets a lead on her seemingly hopeless search for Sansa, Tyrion meets his new travelling party, and Davos washes ashore on the Sisters, en route to White Harbor. Follow along with our reading schedule at afeastwithdragons.com or through davosfingers.com. Game of Owns created this reading order and it lets us tackle A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons in something closer to chronological order. We love it. This podcast avoids spoilers for those reading along at our pace. But we aren’t choir boys. We want to talk spoilers too, so we have a special section at the end of the episode called Davos After Dark. Stick around if you are into that sort of thing. I just realized choir boys prolly like spoilers too. Alright alright the podcast is back as Armageddon quickly approaches. This week on the show Bill gives a complete and total break down of the big UFC 205 card. Are you the gambling type? Well you can lock all these picks in, they are guaranteed (not guaranteed). In the interview portion of the show Bill talks with Stacey Spencer of To See You Broken and Longclaw about her shitty period, soft line straight edge, and the never ending marginalization of women in hardcore and other underground scenes. A fun conversation to hopefully take your mind off of things for an hour. Also if you are in Portland this Sunday Stacey will be throwing an event found here.
You can literally cut the anticipation for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones with Longclaw in this very special Season 2 Spoilercast. With only a scant number of days between us and the premiere we decided to use our rabid anticipation as fuel for a bonus episode. Be warned, we riddled this podcast with …
