DOWNLOAD KEYNOTE SLIDES Sermon Summary: "Live in the House of Wisdom" by Dr. Bryan Hudson Pastor Bryan Hudson delivers a powerful and practical message rooted in the wisdom literature of Scripture, particularly the book of Proverbs. The central theme of the sermon is an invitation not merely to admire or visit wisdom, but to live in the house of wisdom—to make it our dwelling place and guiding principle. Purpose of Proverbs (Proverbs 1:1–3) Proverbs is given to teach wisdom and discipline, to understand wise insights, and to help people do what is right, just, and fair. Discipline is emphasized—it's not what others do for you, but what you choose for yourself. Discipline leads to order, consistency, and purposeful living. The Structure of Wisdom (Proverbs 24:3–4) Wisdom builds the house Understanding establishes it Knowledge furnishes it with pleasant and precious things This creates a metaphorical structure: Wisdom = the house, Understanding = the foundation, Knowledge = the furniture. This priority counters worldly assumptions—knowledge is not enough; it must be applied through wisdom and guided by understanding. Illustration of Wisdom with Cooking Knowledge is like having the recipe and ingredients. Understanding is knowing how to use them. Wisdom is putting it all together effectively and appropriately. Path Principle and Decision-Making Proverbs teaches to ponder the path of your feet (Proverbs 4:26). Life is about the paths we walk, not merely our intentions. Just as walking on a moving walkway takes you in a fixed direction, so do life choices—you arrive where the path leads, regardless of your good intentions. Living in God's Wisdom vs. Worldly Lack There is both abundance and lack in the world—not only materially but spiritually. There's a famine of hearing the Word of the Lord (Amos 8:11), despite abundance all around. True abundance is not material wealth, but spiritual richness, rooted in wisdom and relationship with God. Warnings and Encouragement Covetousness is a danger—desiring something just because someone else has it. Jesus was not poor, but He lived simply. True wealth is in wisdom and purpose, not possessions. Don't lower yourself or dilute your wisdom to fit in—let others rise to the level of truth and light. Mind of Christ God's ways and thoughts are higher (Isaiah 55:8–9), but they are not unattainable—we must rise to them. Believers have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), giving access to divine wisdom. Final Call: Choose Wisdom Daily God's wisdom is a path, not just an idea. Living wisely leads to stability, fulfillment, and God-directed success. Don't just visit the house of wisdom—live there. Closing Prayer Dr. Hudson ends with a prayer of thanksgiving, asking God to help believers live in the house of wisdom and guide others into the same. Summary Phrase: "Let's not just visit the house of wisdom—let's live in it." This message is both instructional and deeply spiritual, calling believers to a lifestyle rooted in God's wisdom, discernment, and understanding.

What does it mean to be away from the presence of the Lord? Though sometimes those words are used with regard to judgement, it should be remembered that there is nowhere we can go in this world that God is not there. Realizing that should be both a warning and a comfort to us, as … Continue reading From the Presence of the Lord – Amos 9:1-4 (9/1/24 a.m. sermon)

The Prophet Amos wrote, “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD” (Amos 8:11). Brother Sam sees these words indeed can apply to our nation in 2023. Preaching abounds—but the anointed word of God is a scarcity. Yet we are without excuse in Gospel Assembly (GTA). Brother Singh is that faithful and wise servant our Lord has put in charge of this household {our assembly} to give us meat in due season! We are fed the messages necessary to save us from these evil days. The question is, “Do we digest our food, or leave it untouched on the plate?
Episode 302 Of PLANTED - Speak, Speak Loud Lord (Amos 2.10 - 16) by Friendship Baptist Church
We have finished the Minor Prophets and we are gearing up for the reformers Ezra and Nehemiah before we tackle the Major Prophet Ezekiel. But before we switch modes entirely, we are doing a mini lecture series, a Prophets 101 class. Last week we discussed the Institution of the Prophetic Office. Today I want to explore the Jewish understanding for why prophecy ceased after Malachi. In Jewish understanding, the cessation of prophecy is a spiritual tragedy, a major loss for the community that will only return in the messianic age. On that, all sources agree. As to why prophecy stopped, rabbis, both ancient and modern, have offered many well-contemplated and biblically based theories but there is no one accepted answer. According to the prophet Amos, prophecy ceased because of the prevalence of sin and lack of faith. In his own day, idolatry and injustice were rampant, but Amos looked to a future when God would no longer bother to send his prophets to offer course correction. Amos predicted, “the days are coming when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord” (Amos 8:11-12).

Brother Singh sees a famine for the word of God in modern Christianity. An ancient scripture is applicable for our day: "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD" (Amos 8:11). So, today, everybody can goggle and quote scripture—yet precious few receive the word of God! The convenience of the modern study of scripture via computers, concordances, and commentaries presents two significant problems: 1) Uncalled ministers add themselves to the work of God. 2) There is little need to seek God diligently in prayer. (Hence carnal thinking and emotionalism masquerade as leading by the Holy Spirit.)

Amos 5 v 1 Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel. The focal message in the book of Amos is that God sees his people on the same level as He views the nations and as a result He expects the same level of purity from them.Amos is a special book as it emphasises a particular message about God execution of justice and judgment over nations specifically that of Israel and Judah. However concerning the Israelites, Amos had a special message them as God had chosen and sent him to preach to them.In this study we are going to examine Amos's understanding of what it meant to both live for and to seek God. As it was written Amos message was call to repentance for Israel as a result of its to sins and to likewise seek to be spared of God's punishment and severe judgment. Despite the many prophets that were sent and the many warnings. God had to punish Israel due to the many sin and her failure to repent from her many social and religious sins. The main cities identified by Amos that were guilty of practicing religious sins and wickedness were Bethel, Gilgal, and Beersheba.. This is where Israel's idol worshiping was practiced until it evoked social sins in the community. God never wanted harm to come to Israel several times He begged her to obey his commandments as a consequence of Israel's disobedience and sins God caused the nation to be captivated by other nations. This was documented by Amos.Concluding the meaning of the word seek in the start of our study Amos 5:4-6. For Amos, it implied that seeking God was equivalent to seeking goodness and engaging in justice and rightness. And ensuring that God is worshipped In spirit and truth by seeking the word of the Lord (Amos 5:14,15; 8:12). Through this God's assurance as He had promised Israel would have been “you may live”. The word “live” would have been Israel's renewed for abstinence from sins. We are called to bask in God's mercy as children of God and eventually be with Him through eternal life in heaven.Listen to this awesome message from Pastor Chidi Okorie. -Hear the Word of the Lord--Amos 7-10-17-Introduction-1. God's word Confronts the listener -10-13--2. God's word Changes the believer -14-15--3. God's word Condemns the unbeliever -16-17--Conclusion
In some ways Amos 4 follows on very naturally from Amos 3. God has said that the warnings of the prophets are linked with real dangers (Amos 3:7–8). Now he highlights some of the sins that have evoked his warnings (Amos 4:1–5) and explains some of the warnings themselves and what they mean for the future if they are not taken to heart (Amos 4:6–13).(1) The first warning is to the wealthy women of Israel (Amos 4:1–3), derogatorily described as “cows of Bashan”—proverbial for being well-fed, fat, and lazy, rather than lean and tough. These women have used their wealth and position to “oppress the poor and crush the needy” (Amos 4:1). The one-line vignette is devastating: they say to their husbands, “Bring us some drinks!” (Amos 4:1). This conjures up a picture of spoiled matrons, peremptory, decadent, interested only in being served and never in serving, lording it over their husbands, swilling down their boredoms in booze. So the Sovereign Lord swears “by his holiness” (Amos 4:2), which is akin to saying that he swears by himself, and thus by that which is immutable and than which there is nothing and no one greater. He swears that he will drag them away with hooks and chains into captivity, humiliated and degraded, in pain amid the rubble of their city (Amos 4:2–3).(2) In the last half of the preceding chapter (Amos 3:9–15), God hammered away at three disgusting features of national life: social oppression, self-indulgence, and corrupt religion. The first two are enlarged upon in the first three verses of chapter 4, as we have just seen. The third, corrupt religion, is now treated with fine prophetic scorn (Amos 4:4–5). “Go to Bethel and sin; go to Gilgal and sin yet more”—the equivalent of saying, “Go to Canterbury and sin; go to Baptist headquarters and sin yet more.” (Fill in your own denominational mecca!) The place where, historically, Israel faithfully offered stipulated sacrifices (before the temple took precedence) are still places of sacrifice, but are now characterized by fine aesthetics, religious enthusiasm, and lots of bragging. Where are contrition and the broken spirit (cf. Ps. 51:17)?(3) In the following verses (Amos 4:6–13) God reviews some of the temporal judgments he has imposed on the people at various times as warnings of much greater judgment to come. These warnings proved ineffective: witness the dreadful refrain, “ ‘[Y]et you have not returned to me,' declares the LORD” (Amos 4:8, 9, 10, 11). Therefore the God of Israel will meet them (Amos 4:12)—he will meet them, all right, not in the glory of theophany but in the terror of judgment. Talk 2: Thanking God despite the problems (1 Corinthians 1:1-9) Today we’re going to make a start on the text of 1 Corinthians, but first let’s take a quick look at why Paul wrote this letter. The general purpose of the letter is revealed by its contents and may be summarised as follows: to set right disorders in the church division (chs 1-4) immorality (chs 5-6) public worship (chs 11-14) to answer questions eg on marriage (ch 7). Cf Now for the matters you wrote about (7:1) with Now about (7:25, 8:1, 12:1, 16:1, 16:12) to correct doctrinal misunderstanding on Christian liberty (chs 8-10) on the resurrection (ch 15) So let’s make a start on the text. Today we’ll be looking at Ch.1:1-9 which I’ve titled Thanking God despite the problems We’ll begin by reading verses 1-3 where Paul greets the Corinthians 1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes, 2 To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ--their Lord and ours: 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. v1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God Paul is confident of his apostolic authority. He is called by Jesus to be a ‘sent one’ (see Acts 9). This was the will of God. He stresses this to the Corinthians. If they did not recognise his authority, they would not obey his instructions. But he needed to be sure of his authority too. We need to know who we are in God. And our brother Sosthenes Possibly the synagogue ruler who had opposed Paul in Acts 18:17. If so, it was an amazing conversion. Now he’s one of Paul’s valued companions. But Sosthenes was a common name and so probably a different person is referred to here. 2 To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - their Lord and ours: ekklesia (church) comes from the verb ekkaleo which means ‘call out’ In using the term Paul is stressing their separation from the world. They are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy or saints. Christians are called saints in the NT because they are God’s people (cf Israel) not necessarily because of their moral condition. It was God’s church in Corinth. It did not belong to the Corinthians. Here the local church is referred to, but in 15:9 Paul uses ekklesia to refer to the church universal. together with all those everywhere All who call on the name of the Lord Jesus, wherever they are, are sanctified in him. The letter was not just written to the Corinthians. It has a universal application. Its general principles may be applied to Christians of all cultures and generations, but some of its specific instructions would be meaningful to the Corinthians alone. It was written for an ad hoc situation in Corinth. Call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ Compare Joel 2, Acts 2, Romans 10: whoever shall call... Paul in his thinking connects an expression that in the OT refers to Jehovah with the Lord Jesus Christ. The deity of Christ is implicit throughout his writings. Right at the beginning of his letter Christ is exalted. Note the close link with the Father in verse 3. 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul adapts a traditional secular greeting (chairein - rejoice) to charis (grace) and combines it with the Jewish shalom (peace) to make his own Christian greeting, Grace and Peace. These two words summarise his theology. Now in vv4-9 Paul moves from greeting (vv1-3) to thanksgiving Thanksgiving (4-9) 4 I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way - in all your speaking and in all your knowledge - 6 because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. 7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. 8 He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. 4 I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. There were problems in the church - very serious ones - but Paul saw the Corinthians as they were in Christ. That is how we should see each other - and ourselves. 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way - in all your speaking and in all your knowledge Again, in him. Every area of our lives is enriched because we are in Christ. Paul possibly has in mind here spiritual gifts like speaking in tongues and words of knowledge – Note the reference to spiritual gifts in v7 However he may well be speaking in more general terms about speaking and knowledge. 6 because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. Confirmed here means ‘validated’. The Gospel message was validated by the change in their lives. Plummer suggests three possibilities: a) established durably (cf v8) b) verified by its influence on character c) was brought home to them by the witness of the Spirit However, the following verse suggests that a charismatic change is in mind here. Further, in you (Gk. en humin) may be translated in your midst. 7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. spiritual gift NIV has supplied the word spiritual which is not in the Greek. Charisma is an actualisation of God’s charis (grace). The word is used not only of spiritual gifts as in 1 Corinthians 12, but also of natural gifts (eg 1 Cor. 7:7). However, in the light of the connection with the second coming here, very possibly spiritual gifts are referred to, for they are a foretaste of the age to come (cf Ephesians 1:13, Hebrews 6:4-5). As you eagerly wait for.... Christ .... to be revealed Here Christ’s coming is referred to as a revelation (apokalupsis). Other expressions used are ‘end’ (telos), ‘day’ (hemera), ‘appearing’ (epiphaneia), and ‘coming’ (parousia). They are used pretty much interchangeably in the NT and in my view it is a mistake to try to distinguish between them at least chronologically. 8 He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you strong to the end What an amazing promise, bearing in mind the state of the Corinthians on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. Compare the OT the Day of the Lord (Amos 5:18-20, Joel 2:31). For Paul the Lord is none other than Jesus Christ. 9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful fellowship with his Son This is also the fellowship of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:13, Phil. 2:1) Summary – thanking God despite the problems The problems: disorders in the church division (chs 1-4) immorality (chs 5-6) public worship (chs 11-14) doctrinal misunderstanding on Christian liberty (chs 8-10) on the resurrection (ch 15) Things Paul thanks God for: 4 I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way--in all your speaking and in all your knowledge-- 6 because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you.

The living, active Word of God is designed to pierce our hearts, to distinguish how to love your neighbors, and is the definition of truth. True wisdom that comes from heaven is modeled, grounded, derived, and completed formed by the Word of God. We must lift up the Word of God!! We are proud of you, LCM for lifting up the Word of God! 2 John 1:6 teaches us that love is to walk in obedience to His commands...to the Word of God! Let the sword of the Word of God pierce you and may you respond with gratefulness, joy, and true repentance as you lift up the Word of God!
