We're celebrating PFN's birthday by shining a light on the partners who have been part of our journey toward people-first leadership, meaningful work, and purpose-driven impact. This special feature from Show Up As a Leader with Dr. Rosie Ward captures the heart of their work and the shared mission that brings us together. Enjoy! — The future of leadership may come down to one simple question: "What can I do to support you today?" Rosie Ward welcomes back Jen Marr, CEO and Founder of Showing Up and author of the book "Lifting Up: The Transformative Power of Supportive Leadership." Together, they explore why human skills are no longer optional in a world shaped by AI, disruption, generational divides, and rising disconnection. Jen shares practical ways leaders can help people feel seen, supported, and valued without turning every conversation into something heavy or overly emotional. From the "five 80s" to the "two 10 rule," this conversation gives people-first leaders tangible tools to build trust, strengthen relationships, and create workplaces where people can truly flourish.

A Nation Gathered, The Word Declared - Now May Those Who Hear also Be Doers of the WordIn a world filled with noise, division, and uncertainty, God has already given His people the weapons we need to stand strong—worship and His Word. Worship is more than a song; it is spiritual warfare that pushes back darkness and invites God to go before us. His Word is more than pages on paper; it is living, powerful, and a lamp that brings clarity to every uncertain path. When authentic worship meets a hunger for Scripture, hearts are awakened, lives are realigned, and hope is restored.Today, let us lean in with open hearts as we remember that the same God who moved in generations past is still speaking, still working, and still calling His people back to Himself.Click here for SHOW NOTES.Share this message with a friend and subscribe for weekly encouragement and inspiration!Visit AWordInSeasonPodcast.org for a free 30-Day Devotional, Show Notes, and to see previous guests.Learn more at: SomebodyCares.org and join us to support this ministry and disaster response efforts. You can also receive weekly Provoke-a-Thought emails, monthly teaching emails, periodic ministry updates, or join our prayer team by signing up here!FOLLOW US ON:Facebook: @SomebodyCaresAmericaYoutube: SomebodyCaresAmericaRumble: SomebodyCares orX: _SomebodyCares.Instagram: SomebodyCaresAmericaLinkedIn: Somebody Cares America

Get Jen's book 'Lifting Up' and 'Showing Up' on Amazon today! --- In this episode, I sit down with Jen Marr — Human Disruption Specialist, author of Lifting Up and Showing Up, and founder of the organization Showing Up — who brings one of the most extraordinary and hard-earned perspectives on leadership I've ever encountered. Jen shares how being just 700 yards from the finish line during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, combined with her frontline support work after the Sandy Hook school shooting, gave her a transformational understanding of how humans navigate disruption, trauma, and change — and how those exact same principles apply to every entrepreneur and leader running a company today. We dig into why most organizations get communication wrong, why AI will never replace human-to-human connection, and why the cortisol flooding your team's bodies every day can only be overpowered by oxytocin — the bonding hormone that's triggered when a leader genuinely says, "I've got your back." Jen walks us through her "fast and frequent one-on-one" framework, how to handle the emotional overwhelm of employees without becoming their therapist, the growing crisis of "fear of taking part" in Gen Z workers, and how native analogs and native digitals can bridge the workplace communication gap. If you lead a team of any size, this conversation will fundamentally change how you show up for the people around you. In this episode, I teach you the two opposing styles of assertiveness: Pushing Down vs. Lifting Up. One erodes trust and damages your reputation over time. The other builds respect, inspires teams, and gets people to genuinely want to follow your lead - this is what I'm teaching you to do. February is serving purpose, power, and pride, henny. In this powerful Black History Month episode of Dishing with Buff Faye, Buff spotlights Charlotte Black Pride (CBP), now celebrating 21 years of leading culture for and by the Black queer community. Buff is joined by her baby boy Giovanni D. Diamond—fresh off a January reset—catching up on New Year's resolutions, dating apps, and Gio's very specific Valentine's wish list (yes, dolls… all his exes are drag queens). Buff also shares her commitment to expanding opportunities for artists through the Buff Faye Drag Brunch House Cast. Explore the cast at AllBuff.com. The heart of this episode centers on a meaningful conversation with longtime friend Quan Rutledge-Wade, alongside Myles Perry and Kourntnee Pope Collins, discussing the history, impact, and future of Charlotte Black Pride. Myles speaks about the upcoming CBP events and making CBP more of a destination pride festival and celebration. Kourntnee speaks candidly about being a Black drag artist, serving in the military, and navigating today's climate. Quan reflects on legacy spaces like Oleen's and Club Myxx, the importance of dedicated Black queer spaces, and what bold, unapologetic Black queerness looks like today. Following the heartbreaking passing of Quan Rutledge-Wade before this episode could air, Dishing with Buff Faye made the decision to pause its podcast release. We now share this conversation in his honor—surrounding his family, our community, and his many friends with love. Quan's voice, vision, and spirit will forever uplift and inspire us. From the Kiki Ball to the Festival, Charlotte Black Pride's 21st year promises to be powerful. Follow, support, and donate at CharlotteBlackPride.org to uplift Black queer artists and programs year-round. As Quan said, “The more you immerse yourself in other cultures, the more you learn… learn something you never knew.” This episode is bold. It's affirming. It's real. It's about lifting voices, honoring legacy, and building a future where Black queerness thrives out loud. Listen at AllBuffPodcast.com. Tune in. Lean in. Be bold, baby. Eat It Up.

Jen Marr: Own the Awkward to be a Better Leader

The Empathy Edge

Technology has always been a double-edged sword. As the workplace and culture shift, we as humans are seeing more collaboration, access, and the ability to communicate across borders. But, it's also leading us to more stress, anxiety, depression, and social isolation. Those dopamine hits are no joke! This all impacts how we need leaders to show up and lead. We have to upskill our leaders for more connection, conversation, and collaboration. AI will be taking over a lot of the drudgery, so leadership now looks different from what it did 20 or 30 years ago. And for some leaders, there is a big skill gap between intent and impact. Something my guest today calls the Awkward Zone as she helps leaders to Own the Awkward.Today, Jen Marr shares the three forces behind our fundamental workplace shifts and how this has changed the role of leaders. She talks about that Awkward Zone and how to navigate through it. She shares the Barbell concept, necessary to build up healthy, productive employees. We have an interesting discussion about time - how leaders track it, spend it, and can find more ways to spend it on their people rather than on useless tasks. And Jen shares what may finally shake us up from the unhealthy ways tech has taken over our lives at the cost of real connection, and what that flashpoint might be for us. To access the episode transcript, go to www.TheEmpathyEdge.com, search by episode title.Listen in for…The three major trends that are fundamentally shifting the workplace. How to foster a healthy workplace with operational empathy and actionable steps. Why actions, not nouns, frame lasting change so we can better handle our emotions. How time tracking can help you be a more supportive leader. Lifting Up Single Mothers: Inside New Beginnings with Ruth Westphal

Stepping through the doors of New Beginnings, single mothers find more than just shelter—they discover family. Case Manager Ruth Westfall shares her passionate journey of guiding these women from survival mode to stability through a comprehensive five-year program designed to break cycles of generational poverty."Every single girl is a success," Ruth explains, describing how each resident receives God's Word regardless of how long they stay. With daily devotions, weekly church attendance, and constant conversations about grace and forgiveness, faith forms the foundation of a program that transforms lives through six essential pillars: faith, parenting skills, education, vocation, personal development, and social skills. The challenges are immense. Most residents arrive having never experienced trustworthy relationships, sleeping on floors with cockroaches crawling over them while pregnant, and developing survival mechanisms that initially make building trust difficult. Yet through patience, structure, and genuine love, Ruth and her team help these women recalibrate their lives. "These things that they have grown up with for years don't take just days," she notes. "It's years to break those cycles."Success stories abound—graduates finding well-paying careers in IT, welding, and cybersecurity. But perhaps the most touching transformation is when a resident who initially responds with skepticism to expressions of love eventually whispers back "I love you too." These relationships continue even after residents leave, providing the supportive family many never had.New Beginnings now hopes to expand their impact through their Heart Campaign, raising funds for a new facility that will allow them to serve mothers with multiple children. Learn how you can help break the cycle of generational poverty and give these families a fresh start at homeformothers.com.Support the showFind strength and courage in your faith at this year's FEARLESS FAITH Conference. Can you imagine cruising up the Bay and seeing the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse underwater? That may be an exaggeration, but sea level rise is becoming a serious threat to our cherished National landmark. John Potvin, the lighthouse manager, has an idea. As the lighthouse becomes more susceptible to sea level rise, he wants to raise it up for generations to come. And to do that, there is a FundRAISER on August 9th featuring a lot of great food, the wonderful music from the Eastport Oyster Boys, and a special surprise from the late Jimmy Buffet! Can't make the FundRAISER? Make a donation, or take a trip out to the light to visit it firsthand. It is hands down THE best tour I have ever done anywhere! Does the light fascinate you? Do you admire it? Come on our for a fun evening on the 9th of August or book a tour. Or, if you just want to learn some very interesting things about this beacon of the Bay... Have a listen! During this Women's History Month and anytime, her job as Associate Brand Manager for Aflac (headquartered in Columbus GA) gives her the opportunity to put women in the spotlight, like when she went to the NCAA women's Final Four last year, among some big names. We also talk on this episode about transitioning from being only to runner to strength training...dealing with the pressures of being a strong woman on the job and in the gym...and how faith brought her out of a path of panic. After a update on the growth of women's sports, (6:20) Madison Montgomery joins in to talk about her Final Four experience, why it's important to shine the light on female athletes, and her advice for young women. (17:00) Becoming "too thin" a year ago, Madison has since lifted weights more and hired a nutrition coach. You may be surprised what she's learned about workouts and especially food (and more of it). She also describes the "athlete camp" she recently attended. (27:18) In her mid 20s and busy juggling school and jobs and being fit...she started having panic attacks which led to depression and thoughts of suicide. She shares her story to help other women who may think they need to portray having it all together. (37:08) And Madison credits getting through dark times to the Lord's grace. She talks about starting her day early through quiet time with God. And she wants to experience as much as she can in life - which recently has helped her see women's sports in a different light. I close us out in prayer. Thanks for listening to the #RunTheRace podcast! Also, write a quick review about it, on Apple podcasts. For more info and all past episodes, go to www.wtvm.com/podcast/.
