John 6:30 Rev. Wes M. Bynum shared that the Jesus tells us "What Sign" that He is the Son of God. Laurie Edwards and Denise Jones accompanied our choir by playing the piano and organ for our worship service today, as a duet, "Love Lifted Me". Our Offertory was awesomely performed by Mike Cross. The Anthem, "I Love You Lord" was artfully performed by, the EBCC Choir under the direction of our Minister of Music, Mike Cross.
Love Lifted Me" is a popular hymn written by James Rowe in 1912. The lyrics draw from the stories of Jesus and his disciples at sea from the book of Matthew. Rowe plays upon the idea of sinking in water to sinking in sin and that Jesus can lift us out of despair to salvation.

Thomas Rhyant: Further OnThomas Rhyant recorded his debut solo album, Love Lifted Me, in about forty-five minutes of first-takes. I guess when you're this good, you just walk in the studio and make a record. I had the good fortune to hear Thomas perform at Newport Folk Festival last summer, as part of the Spiritual Helpline Gospel Revue. Thomas played guitar and sang in the group that also featured Sister Lena Mae Perry, The Union, Phil Cook and the Guitarheels. And when he sang–well, I'm not sure I've seen people that surprised and awed in a long while. He can hit falsetto notes that are simply out of reach for the vast majority of singers. Love Lifted Me is a spare, gorgeous record. Most songs are just Thomas and an acoustic guitar. Interview by Ken Templeton
Category - Exhortation We will see how and where I learned to say blessings before meals, why I avoided those prayers as much as possible, and why I felt like a hypocrite saying grace 95% of the time. Contemplating prayer before meals and exactly what that entailed, I came to the conviction that I broke every principle of prayer. What did Jesus say when He blessed the meals? There is a Jewish tradition, a formula for blessing meals. Acknowledging Baruch Atah Adonai (God who is ever blessed, and ever blessing His creation.) I was not able to find if Jesus Jesus spoke these words verbatim in His blessing, but I do know that even if He did, He did not do it with an empty rote; his words were not vaporous. He did not speak them just because other people were around. Or because of tradition. His words were from His whole heart following His close communion with the Father. Jesus did use vain repetition, mindlessness, or words. At this moment, He spoke with His whole heart. Jesus called out to the Father. His thankfulness was genuine and sincere. At that moment, He knew He was about to experience the power of the Father and the Holy Ghost in creating enough bread and fish to feed as many as 10,000 souls. In this case, they were about to see a miracle where there had been 10,000 needy people with no resources, no hope of resources, and no disciple knew how to feed them. Afterward, when he was done, 10,000 satisfied people were satisfied because the glory of Almighty God and His compassion was on full display. Unlike my empty words, Jesus proclaimed the blessed character of Holy God in transparency. And then, in His deep appreciation, He revealed the glory of God, the giver of all good things. Beloved of the Father, whatever traditions we may have across the world, our desire is to fill those traditions with the praise and honor our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer deserves. At the end of the episode, enjoy “Love Lifted Me” from “Hymns” by Chad Marvin and Johanna Chapman. And since He bids me seek His face, Believe His Word and trust His grace, I'll cast on Him my every care, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!" Tonight for the month of March, The Jazz Show's Jazz Features will be albums that are one of a kind. Mostly albums by fine musicians that only had one recording issued in their lifetime. This was in no way that these players were second rate but simply circumstance and the vagaries of the Jazz recording business. Ron Jefferson is a case in point. He was a fine and in demand drummer who really increased his profile when he moved to Los Angeles from his home town of New York in the late 1950's. Jefferson became a founding member of one of the most popular bands of the time, Les McCann Ltd. (pianist Les McCann's trio).. Jefferson was given the opportunity to record under his name and leadership and he produced this fine album that was issued on World Pacific Records. Jefferson chose well, Lawrence "Tricky" Lofton on trombone and tenor saxophonist Wilbur Brown blend beautifully. Both Lofton and Brown are lesser known names but prove their worth here. An emerging star here is a young Bobby Hutcherson in prime early form. On piano was "the Wynton Kelly of L.A.", Frank Strazzeri and the great Leroy Vinnegar on bass. Ron Jefferson picked the music and plays for the band and does not hog the spotlight. "Love Lifted Me" is a fine ,solid and varied album which deserves an airing. That happens tonight on our Jazz feature!
