To Exhort, Encourage and Educate Christians on Prayer

The 17.03 mark transitions to closing information. We continue looking at how Jeremiah's long life of consistent prayer leads him to be able to say in Lamentations:"He has filled me with bitterness, He has made me drunk with wormwood. 16 And He has broken my teeth with gravel; He has made me cower in the dust." Jeremiah 3:15-16AND"Surely my soul remembers And is bowed down within me. 21 This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. 22 The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Thy faithfulness." Lamentations 4:21-23Our So What? The bitterness of this earthly pilgrimage is made sweet through our consistent, sincere conversation and community with our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer."I called on Thy name, O LORD, Out of the lowest pit. 56 Thou hast heard my voice, "Do not hide Thine ear from my prayer for relief, From my cry for help." 57 Thou didst draw near when I called on Thee; Thou didst say, "Do not fear!" 58 O Lord, Thou didst plead my soul's cause; Thou hast redeemed my life. 59 O LORD, Thou hast seen my oppression; Judge my case." Jeremiah 3:55-59Brethren, let's pray for one another."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Today, we say hello to my friend Genci, pastor of Eagles Church in Tirana, Albania, along with all our brothers and sisters who live in Albania. Genci is a man of character who loves his flock and has a beautiful family. The point of mentioning we are sinners, bigger on the inside and lonely, is to demonstrate our great need not only for salvation but to know and be known by others, most critically, God. In the lives of Jeremiah and Job, we see lives that are fully satisfied and trusting in the deepest of sorrows. But how did they get there?By consistent communion, conversation (prayer) with our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer. In a challenging, nearly 50-year ministry with Almighty God, Jeremiah learned through every circumstance:"There is none like Thee, O LORD; Thou art great, and great is Thy name in might.” Jeremiah 10:6"I know, O LORD, that a man's way is not in himself; Nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps.” Jeremiah 10:23"Are there any among the idols of the nations who give rain? Or can the heavens grant showers? Is it not Thou, O LORD our God? Therefore we hope in Thee, For Thou art the one who hast done all these things.” Jeremiah 14:22"Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” Jeremiah 32:27"Correct me, O LORD, but with justice; Not with Thine anger, lest Thou bring me to nothing.” Jeremiah 6:24And above all,"Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 9:23-24Brethren, let's pray for one another."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Today, we welcome Israel to our listening audience. Thank you for giving the Free Range Preacher on Prayer podcast! We are looking this October at just who is our King of Glory?Today we see Him again high and lifted up, and in His presence we are humbled. Job began his season of trial with unfeigned worship of the God of the universe. “Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked I shall return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.” 22 Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.” Job 1:20-22“But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.”Job 2:10At the end of his long, weary defense of himself, Job moves to his desire to demand an explanation. Job 31:35-36“Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature; Let the Almighty answer me! And the indictment which my adversary has written, 36 Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; I would bind it to myself like a crown. 37 “I would declare to Him the number of my steps; Like a prince I would approach Him.”From humility to a wronged prince. Then God answers. God never tells Job why, but, as we will see, He confronts Job with God as Creator and Sustainer, and He displays Job's weakness before His other creations.Job will be humbled and reminded:“Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few.” Ecclesiastes 5:2Our So What?We come into God's presence in lowliness. “Turn to Me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other. 23 “I have sworn by Myself, The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness And will not turn back, That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.” Isaiah 45:22-23“that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen1 Timothy 1:17Brethren, let's pray for one another. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." We highlight and rejoice in the closed countries where we are heard. We want you to know we remember you daily in our prayers and are blessed you listen. I struggled in the first year of my salvation in the area of prayer. Forty-five or so years ago, I neither understood, comprehended, nor apprehended that I was in a new and authentic relationship with my Creator, Savior, and Internal Companion who indwells us all. It took most of those forty years to realize the true nature of eternal life was:"And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent."John 17:3How I learned that in the 20-year struggle with depression! Here is a quick outline of where we begin this episode.1. We were created for community with our Creator.2. We are born estranged (not in community) from our Creator.3. We have been recreated for the community with our Creator. 4. Our journey, peace, meaning, comfort, contentment, and abundant life are born, nurtured, and grown from our community with our Creator. 5. Heaven, eternal life, is learning to know our Creator. Our So What? And our journey in this lifetime. The peace, meaning, comfort, contentment, and abundant life we were promised and longed for are only nurtured and grown in our community with our Heavenly Father. Today, we accomplish two things: we welcome the country of Eswatini and pray that God will shine forth on His kingdom here on earth, committing to 2026 being a year in which we find God shining forth for His treasured ones. "Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, Thou who dost lead Joseph like a flock; Thou who art enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!"Psalm 80:1Knowing our weaknesses, but He overcomes them by His mercies, gracious gifts, we pray to proclaim to the nations our God is the King of Glory! Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Addendum:We begin with a challenge to the special ones who listen but are in Christ, part of the Kingdom of Christ. We welcome Hong Kong and are glad you joined the Free Range Preacher on Prayer. In part two of our signature episode, we find that through the Messiah, we have been reconciled to God, we are no longer enemies but Children, and we are brought into a new and transparent relationship with one another. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.2 Corinthians 5:18-19For all of you who were baptized into Christ, have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.Galatians 2:27-29Our So What?We know how to initiate, grow, and deepen our human relationships, and those principles apply to our new relationship with God.Why are both truths important to our prayer lives? Next time. Brethren, let's pray for one another."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." When I first got saved and had no knowledge of the Bible, I was young and married for about a year. My idea of heaven was holding my wife's hand and flying through the universe, exploring the wonders of God's creation. The Holy Spirit, the Bible, and some maturity have changed my thoughts on the nature of heaven: "And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent."John 17:3Who is the King of glory"?He is seated above creation as envisioned by Ezekiel 1:26-28"Now above the expanse that was over their heads there was something resembling a throne, like lapis lazuli in appearance; and on that which resembled a throne, high up, was a figure with the appearance of a man. 27 Then I noticed from the appearance of His loins and upward something like glowing metal that looked like fire all around within it, and from the appearance of His loins and downward I saw something like fire; and there was a radiance around Him. 28 As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell on my face and heard a voice speaking."Above the angels, above. Mankind, that impenetrable expanse has been bridged by our salvation. Here in Ezekiel, the angels and humanity are humbled by that expanse. Our So What?"Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few." Ecclesiastes 5:2Who knows, though? Perhaps, I will have time to take Cathy by the hand and fly around creation, being enraptured by God and his infinite creation. But in reality, the host of the redeemed our time will be occupied with God himself, his infinite wonder, his marvelous mercies, yes, His judgments as well. Our chief joy will be God himself. That one humbling thought should guide our prayer lives while we sojourn here on earth. Glory to God. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen1 Timothy 1:17Brethren, let's pray for one another. The King of glory, might in strength, also is our Good Shepherd, and He leads us like a flock. Today we meditate on one of the most beloved Psalms, reminding ourselves that our ultimate destination is glorious eternity in the presence of our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer.Psalm 23"The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. 5 Thou dost prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."Our So What? This life is not our most extraordinary destiny; our relationship with our Shepherd begins here, and as we grow in prayer, our lives will have more meaning on earth as they will in heaven. Glory to God. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen1 Timothy 1:17Brethren, let's pray for one another. My best days are many times sleepless nights.God has often made the most resounding impact on His hard-headed slave -me- through sleepless nights wrestling with Him.This delayed episode is just one occasion of God's work on a dull hearer. We will see how dangerous it is to believe we pray primarily to get what we want. We follow Balak and Balaam as they persist in prayer, which is clearly against God's will. Ploy 1: Everyone thinks it's a good idea.Ploy 2: Really distinguished men think it is a good idea.Ploy 3: God's servant will get lots of money if you say yes.Ploy 4: Worship, I will give lots of worship if you only give me this.Ploy 5: Threatening the servant of God. (I get my ploys a little out of order. Lol out loud)Balaam finally comes to his senses, but what time I have wasted praying for stones and snakes dull in learning, the joy of my soul resting in my converse with my gracious Savior. Morocco has beautiful landscapes and movie sets from around the world. My favorite is Casablanca, which stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Thank you, everyone in Morocco, for listening. Our impossible need:To understand prayer, we need to understand what it means to be human. We cry before we can talk, but the reasons we cry and talk are the same. We are sinners. The natural state of our sons is selfishness and self-centeredness. We are complicated and bigger on the inside. We are built Biblically upside down. We look to what is best for us as individuals. The results: Estrangement from God and isolation from one another. Who is this King of Glory? In the 17th and 18th centuries, the sport of fox throwing was a big attraction. Augustus II the Strong, the King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, was a champion fox thrower. Who is this King of glory? He is our Shepherd, and we will find out how much the Good Shepherd means to His sheep. Today we find:All I know about shepherding I learned from:The Bible"A Shepherd's Look at Psalm 23" -W Phillip KellerBasque friends with a shepherding background. And YouTube videos of Shepherd and their work dogs. Sheep, it turns out, are the most needy of animals; they are weak and dumb. Sheep cannot hunt, fight, or flee. They need a Good Shepherd. The Bible calls us sheep a lot! Our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer assures us, not only that He is our compassionate Father, but that our salvation is entirely His doing."Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart."Hebrews 12:1-3Interestingly enough, this time through Leviticus —the most law-concentrated book, at least in my mind —God assures us five times: "I am the Lord who sanctifies."Eleven times in the Bible, He explicitly tells us He is the one who sanctifies. And five of those are from the most challenging book in the Bible to read. Our So What? From our souls we: Worship Him for His WorkWe thank Him for authoringWe confess our sins, being honest with Him. Have you ever heard or read a preacher say, "We must daily remind ourselves of the Gospel"? That is key in our battle against discouragement. Our second conundrum stems from our struggle against sin. Our comfort is the Gospel; we have been moved by God's mercies from God being our Judge to God being our Father. There are four Biblical principles we need to keep top of mind. 1. The battle against sin is an indication that we are redeemed. Romans 7:23-8:12. We are constantly striving to press on. Hebrews 6:13. We have a sympathetic High Priest. Hebrews 4:15-164. All, all, all by mercies and grace, we have moved from God being our judge to God being our Father. John 1:12-13Our So What? When our struggle with sin has us at our lowest, and we are tempted to despair, remember and call out:"Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. 14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust." Psalm 103:13-14"I believe, help Thou my unbelief. "Mark 9:24Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. We are reminded that we have everything we need for life and godliness, and that part of what —or who — we need is a Strong Tower."Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence."2 Peter 1:2-3"The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe." Today we call out to our God who suffered temporally so we can live eternally. Our greatest sorrow, though, is our separation, even for a time, in the death of those we love. In that separation, we are most obviously bruised and weak. Today, we glory in our faithful Savior, not breaking us in our weakness."A BATTERED REED HE WILL NOT BREAK OFF, AND A SMOLDERING WICK HE WILL NOT PUT OUT, UNTIL HE LEADS JUSTICE TO VICTORY. 21 "AND IN HIS NAME THE GENTILES WILL HOPE." Matthew 12:20-21"He will not cry out or raise His voice, Nor make His voice heard in the street. 3 "A bruised reed He will not break, And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice. 4 "He will not be disheartened or crushed, Until He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law."Isaiah 42:2-3Our So What?We look to Richard Sibbes. From "A Bruised Reed.""He 'binds up the broken-hearted' (Isa. 61:1). As a mother is tenderest toward the most diseased and weakest child, so does Christ most mercifully incline to the weakest. Likewise he puts an instinct into the weakest things to rely upon something stronger than themselves for support. The vine steadies itself upon the elm, and the weakest creatures often have the strongest shelters. The consciousness of the church's weakness makes her willing to lean on her Beloved and to hide herself under his wing."Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. So apprehensive is my nature that, as a boy, before our nightly entertainment was in any way under our control, if I saw that "The Rockford Files" was going to be a two-part episode, I would go to my room to read or listen to music! I didn't and still don't like suspense! But what else is worrying, other than not knowing the future and being fearful of what is going to happen next?"Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34The cure?"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." 14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. Our conundrum? We, as humanity, believe ourselves to be the center of all things, and yet we know how awful we are in our thoughts. We also face what seem like meaningless events in our lives and erratic circumstances we don't understand. Solomon summed it up for us: "All things are wearisome; Man is not able to tell it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing." Ecclesiastes 1:8The Bible calls Christians His treasured ones, and such we are, knowing, "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, 20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." Hebrews 6:19-20We learn as we sojourn through this life, "If the LORD had not been my help, My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence. 18 If I should say, "My foot has slipped," Thy lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up. 19 When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Thy consolations delight my soul." Psalm 94:17-19We have our personal intimate consolation, even in the person of Jesus the Messiah. We know thus far in October, our King of Glory is our hope, comfort, the King of all creation. He holds our hands, trains us, and keeps us safe. All those vagaries to us are actually in His control, and He is our personal, intimate consolation. Our So What? How might an upcoming conversation with our Creator, Savior, and sustainer go if we meditate on all His consolations? What a glorious conversation that is!Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen1 Timothy 1:17Brethren, let's pray for one another. Hagar, with a child running away from her mistress, in an awful circumstance, not of her doing, heard the Angel of the Lord in Genesis 16, and believed Him. Alone, pregnant in a circumstance not of her choosing, Hagar believed the Lord and went back to the source of her troubles. Her attitude is revealed in her worship as she submitted to God, for she now knew:"Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, 'Thou art a God who sees'; for she said, 'Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?" Genesis 16:13Our So What?We are seen by El Roi, the God who sees. Even as Hagar called Him, the God who sees me!What a glory! Who is this King of Glory? The Builder and Architect of All Things."For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God." Hebrews 3:4"The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens." Proverbs 3:19"Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, To retire late, To eat the bread of painful labors; For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep." Psalm 127:1-2Our so What? The reasons there are architects and builders in the complexities in building a building to its intended purpose. No longer will I make the claim to catch up. The Lord has something else in mind, obviously. But we will crack on with our October Surprise and see what other surprises are in store!Today, we look at God, our Trainer. We know the battlefield terms are:"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ," 2 Corinthians 10:3-5We know Jesus is our example. And we know the Holy Spirit is our practical Trainer."But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. John 16:13Our So What? Our affections and the content of our communion with God change as we meditate on our mission and our Trainer. Growing up where I did, not England, France, or Germany, when I think majestic, I think of starry nights, mountain ranges, and most of all beautiful sunrises. So there's no more fitting picture for me than that of the majesty of our God, than just that of a sunrise. Imagine my joy to learn, not only is God:"I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12But He is also:"Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high shall visit us" Luke 1:78Our so what?Imagine the most beautiful sunrise you can ever remember, or the next time you see the sunrise. Unless the Lord has any more surprises for the Free Range Preacher, we should be on track to catch up, for real this time. First-timers and you, patient, faithful listeners, it is my blessing and wonder that you listen. We do pray the King of Glory separates His wheat from my chaff, and His word does not come back void as you listen.Who is this King of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty, trustworthy enough to be our only hope."Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O LORD. 2 Lord, hear my voice! Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. 3 If Thou, LORD, shouldst mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But there is forgiveness with Thee, That Thou mayest be feared. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning. 7 O Israel, hope in the LORD; For with the LORD there is lovingkindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. 8 And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities."Psalm 130:1-8Our So What?As you replace your name and the names of your beloved in verse 7 for Israel, we find all the fuel we need with which to fuel our hope."Hope in the LORD, for with LORD there is lovingkindness and with Him abundant redemption."17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. On a recent walk, I passed a little girl with her mom (going out and back). The first time, she was a few feet away as I walked between them. The child was apprehensive. On the way back, she was holding her mom's hand. She smiled at me, waved, and even told me a little story. (In Baby talk)Why the difference in demeanor? "For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, 'Do not fear, I will help you." Isaiah 41:13"The steps of a man are established by the LORD; And He delights in his way. 24 When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong; Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand." Psalm 37:23-24"The LORD has disciplined me severely, But He has not given me over to death." History has consistently shown that being aligned with the correct King makes all the difference. Just ask Gelimer and Martin Luther.David teaches us to install Yahweh Sabboath as our King."But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain." Psalm 2:6 and"Worship the LORD with reverence, And rejoice with trembling. 12 Do homage to the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!" Psalm 2:11Our So What? What are the affects and effects on our worship, confession, thanksgiving, and supplications when we align ourselves with:"Who is the King of glory? A long life is a blessing. Psalm 128 assures us that we are blessed when we see our children's children.A long life is a double-edged sword as well, for we grow weary of our sins. If you have ever just been tired of yourself, and you're unsure how to express those feelings, Psalm 38 is a lesson in purging our sorrows to the Lord. Just a sample:I am benumbed and badly crushed; I groan because of the agitation of my heart. 9 Lord, all my desire is before Thee; And my sighing is not hidden from Thee. 10 My heart throbs, my strength fails me; And the light of my eyes, even that has gone from me.Psalm 38:8-10By the merciful, promise-keeping God of the impossible, we find comfort in our gain. "As for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Thy likeness when I awake." Psalm 17:15"Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is." 1 John 3:2-31 "Many are the sorrows of the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, lovingkindness shall surround him. 11 Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones, And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart." Psalm 33:10-11"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8Our So What?We often feel like "the chief of sinners." (Present tense.) and at the same time, Paul could say: "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21What a comfort is our gain!Brethren, let's pray for one another. We begin with the reason my mom and our family need prayers. Thank you for praying. As is fitting for this moment, we look to David to see that God is the God of all comfort. He is our comfort even in our loss. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ."2 Corinthians 1:3-5"But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve, as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus."1 Thessalonians 4:13-14"But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory. 55 "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord."1 Corinthians 15:54-58Our So What?We take comfort in the fact that we will see all in Christ who have gone ahead. Welcome to the Free Range Preacher on Prayer podcast. APodcast principalPaddock Focusing on Who is this King of glory, as many facets of God as He has revealed Himself, as we can in October.Special thanks to Richard for making me smile again, this last few days, and especially with the intro.Been delayed a little because of two events, one sad, and the other just inconvenient, but we are back and committed to catching up.New or old, thanks for listening., Thank you for listening. Our goal is to have short, contemplative episodes every day in October. If you are new, we receive excellent reviews each October. If you are returning, we hope that once again we are clear, broadening, and deepening our relationship with our Creator, Savior, and Teacher. This year, we are looking at just who the King of glory is and who the Son of man is as well. Important matters, for our redemption and for our community, in the presence of the Holy God of the Universe.Prayer, from our need to salvation to our need of preserverance to our daily needs, you have called us to trust and look to Thee, may our faith grow, as we see you are the God of the impossible. Amen Who can be saved?"Then who can be saved?" 27 Looking upon them, Jesus *said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."Mark 10:26b-27Who can be trusted to keep His word?"And the LORD said to Moses, 'Is the LORD'S power limited? Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not."Numbers 11:23Who can be trusted to number our days to our good and His glory?"Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, 27 "Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?"Jeremiah 32:26-27Who is the active creator, savior, and power over all creation. Behold, the LORD'S hand is not so short That it cannot save; Neither is His ear so dull That it cannot hear.Isaiah 59:1Our 'so what' will essentially be the same every day of October. Once we read the verse, we will be encouraged to consider:Is the verse we share new to you? And:.How might you translate or apply this self-revelation of God to our joy, worship, confession, gratitude, and intercession in conversation with Him?What joy, peace, worship, faith come from knowing the God of the Universe is not only on our side, but the God of the impossible who is able accomplish all we entrust to Him. Richard's intros are always a joy! Three weeks ago, at our Production Meeting, which our wives call our play date, we discussed the introduction, and I didn't receive it from him until September 30. Richard is. Pro!Our goal is to have short, contemplative episodes every day in October, with the end result of broadening and deepening our relationship with our Creator, Savior, and Teacher. Who is the King of glory, and who is the Son of man?One way we find out who the King of Glory is through His names in the BibleToday, Baal-perazim, Lord of the Breakthroughs.David asked, "should I go to war?", God says yes. After the victory, he says:"So David came to Baal-perazim, and defeated them there; and he said, "The LORD has broken through my enemies before me like the breakthrough of waters." Season Seven, October 2025, October 1: Who is the King of Glory? Breathlessly, Richard introduces us to October Surprise 2025, when we ask, "Who is this King of Glory?" And "Who is this Son of Man?” (Worth a listen for the introduction alone!)"Who is the King of glory? The LORD is strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O gates, And lift them up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah."Psalm 24:8-10"My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism."James 2:1"With it we bless our Lord and Father; and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God."James 3:9"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 And there are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons."1 Corinthians 12:4The King of Glory is Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, as marvelously and mysteriously as that is. Our So What?We contemplate: Who has the King of Glory revealed himself to be Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and:How does that change my conversation with him? Brethren, let's pray for one another. Jesus meets a woman at a well; this event gets right to the point. Our lives are much more than what we see physically, and the real existential threat is not to our earthly lives, but to our eternal souls. So critical is this truth that Jesus brings up what the woman would not say. "Go, call your husband, and come here." What unfolded next led the woman to the spiritual. "The woman *said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet." Verse 19 of John 4. The point of this conversation:"Jesus *said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father. 22 "You worship that which you do not know; we worship that which we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:17-20Our So What?Praying for the physical is part of the call we have, but as we mature in our communion with Almighty God, our concerns will move our focus from the physical to the spiritual."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Success is never Final.Failure is never Fatal. It is Courage (Faith) that Counts. This phase, attributed to Winston Churchill, is not from the Bible, but it is Biblical and encouraging. “But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.” Philippians 1:22“Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8Our So What?Success is never final, failure is never fatal; it is courage (faith) that counts. Our joy and satisfaction come from talking about prayer. Today, we turn our hearts to focus on the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. The context is again, "Success is never final; failure is never fatal, it is courage, born of faith that counts." ( a slight modification of the Churchill quote.)Our implied example, as we pray for revival in Puerto Rico, is the growth of the church. God's work is not done until every tribe and tongue knows the invitation of salvation. Our express example is the Apostle Paul. In Philippi, Paul, far from the travel, persecution, and beatings of his life, could have kicked back and rested, rejoicing in the spread of the gospel. Yet, he exhorts us to follow his example.:"Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; 16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained." Philippians 3:13-16Our So What? We can know what God has wrought for us and through us, but while we are alive, we press on until we see our Savior face to face. Plans change; that might be a theme of this podcast, Jesus' conversations with people in the book of John. We want to explore possible applications. Today, being sincere is an import from Jesus and His conversation with the woman at the well in Samaria. When she answered, "I have no husband," she was not honest with Jesus. His answer, "you have well said" in the passage did several things, but for her it was shown, Jesus was the one with the answers, and for us it illustrates, we are not only honest with God. For a prayer life which glorifies God, and satisfies our souls, our sincerity with Him is our…Our So What?As we desire honesty from one another in conversation, God desires truth in our close communion with Him. (Even though we know He knows)True communion is sincere communion."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." We begin today with a prayer for our brothers and sisters in Russia and Ukraine. Most of all, a worldwide revival might even start there, in the midst of turmoil. The conversation in John 4 is as astonishing as our prayers. To the woman, a Jew talking to a Samaritan woman was unthinkable. The holy God of the universe initiating communion with us is just as inconceivable. Yet He does:Moses sees the burning bush; the Hebrews tell us He has spoken in various and sundry ways. At one point, all I knew of the Bible was Romans 6:23, from a billboard.Hebrews also tells us that now He is speaking to us through His son. "in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they." Hebrews 1:2-4And as Jesus is turning the woman from water to eternal life, He tells us in this passage: "…made purification of sins…" Eternity is His message. Our So What?We ask this question: Knowing that the spiritual is so much more critical than the physical. How might that change the content of our prayers? "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Thank you for listening; today, we detour just a tad, looking at Jesus' chiding, gently. I believe in their focus on the physical, bread, and not the eternal. We also hear Jesus say:"For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. 31 "But seek for His kingdom, and these things shall be added to you. 32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom."Luke 12:30-32The essence of being a baby is crying. If you're a parent, sometimes you go in, and your baby is crying, but they're not wet, and they're not hungry, they're not hurt, and they're not afraid. So we pick them up, hold them close, talk to them a little bit, and hug them, and their crying stops. Why? Because they need us, they need our presence in that moment. I will say it, once more, "God is a much better parent than we are."If your inner man is giving you some trouble, if your inner man is not experiencing the peace you desire, or maybe you've had at other times, my encouragement is to get into your closet and, draw close to your Savior, and talk to him. Our So What?Do we not yet understand that access to the Father is the peace of our walk? Today (a preview of our October Surprise Month), we look to delve into the question, Who is this King of Glory? On earth, we may be ruled by a King, or a parliament, or a representative republic, or a despot, or, just as the Akkadians called their early leaders, great men, but we are citizens of our God. In Psalm 98:6, "our King. the Lord."To our joy, no earthly ruler is our final authority. Who is this King of Glory? The God of the earthThe God of all fleshThe God of all comfortThe God of all grace.Of Him Jude reminds us:"Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, 25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ."Jude 24-25"What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." We are back in the paddock after an unanticipated break, but we are glad to be back! Thank you for listening. We are back with a confession. Recently, I went into the throne room of God, not with a heart that said, "O Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty; Nor do I involve myself in great matters, Or in things too difficult for me." Psalm 131:1But with a sinful, angry, fleshly state of mind. And, I went into the presence, His loving presence, in that state, on purpose. Psalm 98:1-2 "O Sing to the LORD a new song, For He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him. 2 The LORD has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations" jolted me out of the flesh and the rest of Psalm 98 brought me to joy and a light heart trusting in God's goodness. Our So What?Come to the throne room in sincerity! Even in our fleshly moments, we come into the throne room, hear Him say, "Listen to yourself, my son!", stop, and repent from those unworthy thoughts. In His presence, and praise him for his faithfulness because we know he's listening. He corrects us in real time, and he reminds us of his glorious purpose in our lives, which culminates in the worship of Psalm 98."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." This week, we consider what great things He has done for our souls. We are also briefly introduced to "Prayer and the Bible" by Donald S Whitney In our Free Range Prayer Concert, there is a celebration of gratitude for what God has wrought in our lives. We meditate on:Ephesians 1:7-12 & 15-16"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, 8 which He lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fulness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things upon the earth. In Him 11 also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory."15 "For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you, and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers;"Prayer, let Thy people meditate on Thy wonders, and make us each one contemplate what profound gratefulness Thou stirs up in our souls through Thy will. So What? What exorbitant blessings we have!Redemption and forgiveness. Rich grace from God. Knowledge of the mystery of His will. The gift of our inheritanceWe are predestined to see Him just as He is."Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is."1 John 3:2 So What? For me, the passage crescendos into prayer and thanksgiving for one another. In the olden days, driving out to the Boise National Forest, and coming home from the same, God talked to me first. It was a hard truth that I had no comprehension of until I unexpectedly found myself in church. God spoke through a billboard containing His word. "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."Romans 6:23God often speaks to us with a hard statement. Romans 6:23 is one of those. For the woman at the well, the hard conversation began with "Give me a drink."The astonishing part was not a command from a strange man, "give me a drink", but that a Jew was talking to a Samaritan,We are dumbfounded to hear from God, not just difficult truths, but that the Holy God of the universe stoops down to converse with His fallen creatures. "When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that Thou dost take thought of him? And the son of man, that Thou dost care for him?" Psalm 8:3-4Our So What?Viva la our astonishing conversations. We are praying for revival to begin in Albania. In this example of Jesus' conversations and how we can apply them to prayer, we return to Jesus and Nicodemus. He comes in the night with a nagging question, that he doesn't even ask: How can I be right with God?We saw last time, Jesus knows truly what is on his heart, and blows His mind by saying:"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3After adding an illustration of the wind, Nicodemus cries out, "How can these things be?"We see, however, from Ezekiel 11:19-20, 36:26-27, and Ezekiel 37, that the concept of needing to be born again should not have been foreign to "the teacher in Israel," but it was. Even Jeremiah wrote: "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 "And they shall not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the LORD, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." Jeremiah 31:33-34God does not shrink back from telling us the difficult truths of the gospel, even if we wrestle with them. Our So what?"In humility, difficult truths lead us to, Lord, God, Thou knowest, and I trust in Thee." Ezekiel in the valley of the dry bones. Today, we are back to our gratitude in God, as He has revealed Himself. Today, we look again at the traumatic holiness (otherness) of God. As we stand ten feet from the sun, we look through a prism that filters out all but the moral perfection of God. "In the year of King Uzziah's death, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. 2 Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory." 4 And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke."Isaiah 6:1-4 His moral perfection alone shatters our self-image and humbles us to the core. "Then I said, "Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."Isaiah 6:5It's a beautiful humility and reverence. Do you imagine Isaiah, Moses, John in revelation, David, Paul, Peter, or any of the Biblical saints being sad after seeing God in His Holiness and being torn to pieces and then healed? Our so what? The beauty of God in His Holiness leads us to humility, which relieves our torn self-image and is beautiful to us. By definition, a life-changing beauty.Brethren, let's pray for one another."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more""Robert MurrayM'CheyneeDonation link:https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=G9JGGR5W97D64Or go to www.freerangepreacheronprayer.com and use the Donations tab.Assistant Editor: Seven Jefferson Gossard.www.freerangepreacheronprayer.comfreerangeprayer@gmail.comFacebook - Free Range Preacher MinistriesInstagram: freerangeministriesAll our Scripture quotes are drawn from the NASB 1977 edition. For access to the Voice Over services of Richard Durrington, please visit RichardDurrington.com or email him at Durringtonr@gmail.comOur podcast art was designed by @sammmmmmmmm23 InstagramSeason 007Episode 061

Welcome Iceland to the Free Range Preacher on Prayer podcast. We are glad to have you here, and I am blessed to say I have a dear friend who lived in your country for many memorable years of her life. Today, we are thankful for the Holiness of God. We liken Isaiah's experience in Isaiah 6, to standing 10 feet from the earth's sun and asking:"What do you believe you would notice first?Did you imagine the sun's immensity? Sheer size? How about the blinding light, the pull of gravity? What could keep you only 10 feet from the sun? Would you notice the solar winds, the heat, or the violent atomic fusion? Better still, which one of those would tear you to pieces first?Better stiller, our "So What?"What in the world is there to be thankful for, as Isaiah says?"Woe is me, for I am ruined!"O LORD, what is man, that Thou dost take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that Thou dost think of him? 4 Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow."Psalm 144:3-4The immense, righteous, all-powerful, just God of the universe takes knowledge of us. Fleeting and as puny as we are, He thinks of us. Brethren, let's pray for one another."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more""Robert MurrayM'CheyneeDonation link:https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=G9JGGR5W97D64Or go to www.freerangepreacheronprayer.com and use the Donations tab.Assistant Editor: Seven Jefferson Gossard.www.freerangepreacheronprayer.comfreerangeprayer@gmail.comFacebook - Free Range Preacher MinistriesInstagram: freerangeministriesAll our Scripture quotes are drawn from the NASB 1977 edition. For access to the Voice Over services of Richard Durrington, please visit RichardDurrington.com or email him at Durringtonr@gmail.comOur podcast art was designed by @sammmmmmmmm23 InstagramSeason 007Episode 060

In examining the question, "What is Prayer?" We accidentally learn why we pray. Even though no Biblical person asks why we pray? Their lives reveal our anguished need for prayer. We are sinners. Until glory, we struggle with sin. Prayer is the act of faith that assures our soul.We are complex lonely beings, and prayer brings us into the arms of our heavenly Father, who knows us, holds us, and comforts us.Some of my favorite prayers:Hannah, 1 Samuel 1.Fathers calling out for their children, Mark 9, Matthew 9, Luke 7.A roofing job, Mark 2Psalm 39, Psalm 42The woman who touched Jesus' robe, Luke 8.Scriptures referenced:Luke 18:1Proverbs 15:8Psalm 42:12 Corinthians 5:17 & Ezekiel 11:19John 17:3 (of course)Hebrews 11:1&6Matthew 11:28-30Romans 8:14-15Romans 8:26-281 Corinthians 12:11-12Hebrews 4:16, 7:25, 4:12-13 The TARDIS even makes an appearance as we learn:Psalm 62:8 Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.
