Andor's second wraps up with some emotional moments in the final three episodes that make up the BBY 1 story arc. Episode 10 ("Make It Stop") was not something a child wants to watch when their loved one is undergoing heart and lung surgeries. Seeing Luthen, a father figure, on the bed like that and hearing and seeing the breathing apparatus move until Kleya releases him from his future of pain and suffering...Episode 11 was the response to the spy game Kleya just pulled off and the Empire wasn't far enough behind for her to get comfortable. The action wasn't as incredible as the Ghorman Massacre, but it didn't have to be. K-2SO got to be a hero for the rebellion for the first time and Melshi earned his keep as well. It's good to see some Imperials fell along the way because the ones we're seeing here had passed the point of an easy redemption.Episode 12 bridged the gap to Rogue One and despite what was being sold for weeks, a rewatch of the movie right after finishing the show didn't enhance or recontextualize things, at least for This is the Way Podcast's sensibilities. Rogue One is still more close to A New Hope than it is Andor...and there's more characters and story shared in the show. Why does it feel that way? There's room for another season or two or three. A lot happened while Luke, Leia, and Han were at the forefront of that story. Tony Gilroy might be the one to tell those side stories of the rebels behind the scenes setting the stage for the Force to be used in mighty ways. Could we sneak in Wilmon to the Endor assault team? Would Kleya and Vel be tasked to recruit some Bothans? Who might find out where Han was taken by Boba Fett? Would someone have to recruit more star systems to the rebellion? Does anyone discover, too late, that the Milllenium Falcon has a tracking device on it on arrival at Yavin? How about the move from Yavin to Hoth and the scouting and secrecy in constantly moving from base to base?None of that may ever come to fruition. Tony Gilroy has said he's done. The only way I think I'd be interested in hearing those stories is if someone took the care and time he did with Andor and only if they keep Luke, Leia, and Han out of the story completely or relegated to out of focus background. You can do Chewbacca, that's it. I've gotten a hug at Disney Hollywood Studios. That works. I don't want to see fake Lukes and Leias, though. R2-D2, C-3PO, Chewbacca, and our Andor characters. Want me to work on it Lucasfilm? I will. I'll put every ounce of my being into it.The full recap and discussion episodes will come later. Life events continue to wreak havoc on the This is the Way Podcast schedule. I will not guarantee that we'll finish with Andor in May. There's nothing new coming anyway. It's just news updates, Mandalorian and Grogu movie leaks, and Ahsoka season two production notes for the foreseeable future. If you have an episode specific comment, email it to the address we reveal in our podcasts. Re-Watch Podcast Andor Episode xi Daughter of Ferrix Apologies for the delay in publishing. Mike and I recorded this Sunday but, like I've said previously, I need 24hrs to process what I just watched. This time I needed a bit longer and even skimmed the episode before writing this so it was once again fresh in my mind. This episode was incredible. It starts off with a bit of scare now that Cassian and Melshi are on foot trying to escape Narkina 5. The ISB still has Bix in custody and is still trying extract as much info out of her as humanly possible. Marva has died and now funeral arrangements are being made. Vel meets with Kleya and passes her info that Cassian's mother has died in hopes this will help draw him back to Ferrix. Vel is learning that Mon Mothma's daughter into some weird cult from their home world of Chandrila. She also finds out how much money Mon Mothma needs to clear before Imperial Audits discover the discrepancy. I'll say it again. The back and forth about the money is taking too long to figure out and I'm losing interest. They find a guy to help who finds another less legit guy. Are they dragging out this story to make 12 episodes or was this 4th party banking system really necessary to hid Mon Mothma's disloyalty? Shouldn't Vel be the one in dire need of a way to launder 40,000,000 stolen Imperial Credits? Not only that, she needs somewhere to physically hide them too. Wouldn't laundering the 40,000,000 in hard currency a bigger problem than a mere 400,000? Seems kinda odd but, I guess it's more important for this not to happen to an Imperial Senator versus some rich girl from Chandrila who has not been implicated in the heist on Aldhani. Of course Karn is dragged back into the story. He's tipped off by his old bulldog sergeant who's now a working in a durasteel foundry that Andor's mother has passed away. So now he's on his way back to potentially intercept him. Luthen also meets again with Saw Guerrera who's eagerly decided to join Kreegyr's assault on the power station at Spellhouse. Luthen warns him he's walking into trap and Saw utters one of the best lines in series. The end of the episode is a feast for the eyes and ears. After leaving the Fondor system, Luthen is interdicted by a what is called and Cantwell-Class "Arrestor Cruiser." He destroys this ships nose mounted tractor beam with a rear mounted flechette launcher on top half of the hull of his ship. This is not what a tractor beam looks like! As far as I know they've never been pictured in any media. Expanded universe or otherwise. I can think of one instance in a comic book of a tractor beam operator failing to pull Luke Skywalkers X-Wing into the hanger Grand Admiral Thrawn's Star Destroyer. However, we're never shown in the comic or the corresponding novel, what the actual device looks like. I'm running out of room and can't bitch about tractor beams anymore. In the latest episode of The Rogue Ones, our hosts break down their thoughts on Episode 11 of “Andor,” entitled “Daughter of Ferrix,” which dropped on Disney+ today. After the discussion, Andor himself, Diego Luna (“Narcos: Mexico,” “Y Tu mamá también”), joins the podcast to discuss his journeys with the show and its characters. Luna's passion for the show, what it's saying about the world, and working with showrunner, writer, and creator Tony Gilroy is palpable. He clearly is deeply proud of this show and this new perspective they have brought to "Star Wars." Also on this episode, we're joined by actor Duncan Pow (“Black Mirror”), who plays Melshi, a character who also has a significant role in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”). But what's interesting is that Pow tells us his Melshi character was a creation of Tony Gilroy's 'Rogue One' reshoots. It seems Gilroy loved the actor enough to also want to include him in 'Andor.' For more 'Andor,' read our review on ThePlaylist.net, and don't forget to listen to all our episodes of the Rogue Ones, where we talk to Tony Gilroy, Andy Serkis, Adria Adjona, Kyle Soller, Fiona Shaw, and many more.
