If last episode was a transition, than this episode is the catalyst for the rest of Andor's first season. Big changes happening across the galaxy, from Ferrix to Coruscant, while Andor settles down in his new "home" of Narkina 5. Episode 7 serves as a transitional episode between Andor's first half of the season and the second, and as such we spend a large amount of time basically resetting characters to the new status quo. Political intrigue and jockeying for position has reach an all time high within the ISB, while both Cyril and Andor become cogs in the machine that is the Empire, albeit in different ways. The theme of the episode could be best described as "consequences" with Luthen pointing out that people suffering due to the Aldhani heist in the point of the whole thing. The Empire steps up its oppression, leading to ripples across the whole galaxy from Coruscant to Ferrix. [SPOILERS] Crosshair wakes up in his cell on what looks like Coruscant, as Rampart gives him a new mission. To go to Desix and free the governor being held captive. Rampart removes Crosshair of his commander title, and says he's not fit to lead any squad. But rather he has a new commander, who of course is Commander Cody. Now Commander Cody was Obi-Wan Kenobi's right hand man in the clone wars as far as clones on the battlefield go. He was leader of the 212th battalion and led the onslaught against General Grievous on Utapau. He was the first one to execute order 66 on obi-wan Kenobi, betraying him. I find it really interesting that he's gone awol at the end of this episode, but more on that later. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In the middle episode of Andor's second story arc, we shift between the various story lines at lightning pace, bouncing between Ferrix, Coruscant, and Aldhani. Some inter-story conflict helps to drive home that point that we're racing towards what is sure to be a dramatic and violent culmination. This episode ratchets up the tension in a highly effective way, and leaves us on the edges of our seats by the end. The second story arc in Andor starts off with an intertwining of a half dozen different stories, woven together with excellent writing and exceptional characterizations of both new and known faces. There isn't much action in this episode, but it lays the groundwork for rising tensions and works well as a sort of soft reset for multiple arcs, with Andor moving away from Ferrix, and Luthen and Syril returning to Coruscant, not to mention the heavy focus on the ISB story lines. In today's 4th Bad Batch episode, we enter the planet of Pantora where Tech scrambles the wanted signal for their ship. Here, we meet Fennec Shand, the assassin from The Mandalorian season 1, and later 2, who teamed up with Boba Fett. We will be seeing more of her in The Book of Boba coming this December. In tonight's episode we learned that Fennec Shand is hired by someone (I think Kamino or Boba/Kamino) to find Omega as she is going to facilitate in the third phase of Clone Troopers. The episode had a nice reminiscent scene of Attack of the Clones where Anakin and Obi-Wan chased Zam Wessell through Coruscant. How did you find the episode? Did you like it? I hope we see Rex in Bad Batch episode 5. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Across three story arcs in the first ten episodes, Andor has delivered top-notch Star Wars storytelling. In the latest episode of Hyperspace Theories, Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester analyze the two-part finale. Written by showrunner Tony Gilroy, who also wrote the first three episodes, the finale brings the first season of Andor to an exciting and dramatic conclusion. Gilroy started Cassian's story in Andor on Ferrix, and the finale returns to the planet by bringing almost all of the major characters to the same location for the climactic events. Only Mon Mothma, trapped in her own tightening vise by the Empire, remains stuck on Coruscant. Starting with Cassian himself and extending to the other characters drawn into the gravity well of his story by the events of the series, each of the character arcs in Andor receives a fitting and impactful culmination. Without a doubt, Andor has raised the bar for Star Wars stories on Disney+ in the years ahead. In order to find medical droids with first-hand knowledge of Vader's extensive augmentations, they'll need to seek out uneasy allies, traverse the social strata of a planet-city, and put themselves in some morally compromised positions. Our JFC is "Friendship shows us who we really are." The radio announcer lets us know that in hopes of ending the war, the first ever official meeting between the Republic and Separatists is being held on the neutral world of Mandalore. The negotiations seem to be going poorly, with the Separatists having a ridiculous demand that their government be recognized as legitimate. We all know that the Republic is not a fan of self-determination. But just then, our old friend Lux Bonteri (remember him?) jumps in to announce that Dooku killed his mother, Senator Mina Bonteri. Separatist security arrests him. Dooku appears via spacetime to taunt Lux before ordering his death, but he is saved at the last moment by his good friend Ahsoka -- being "discreet" just like Padme asked. They escape on a Republic shuttle; when Ahsoka says they'll be returning to Coruscant, Lux tases her and heads for the planet Carlac, where he says others want to help him kill Dooku. When they arrive on Carlac, a world of both snow and cherry blossoms(?), Lux has hidden Ahsoka's lightsabers (it turns out they're just in a cabinet), so they wander off unarmed and are met by a bunch of members of the Mandalorian Death Watch, including Bo Katan, who might be important later. Lux is there to sell out Dooku; Ahsoka plays it cool by pretending to be his fiancé. They head off to an occupied town, where the Death Watch prove they are the bad kind of terrorists, by torturing helpless droids, who I guess are people now. Lux explains the plan - he traced Dooku over Spacetime(tm), and is selling the location to Deathwatch, who want him dead. Ahsoka is skeptical, as the Death Watch are bad, mm-kay? To prove her point, their leader, Pre Vizsla arrives; he wants to kill Dooku for vaguely explained reasons about things that happened offscreen.Artoo is assigned to repair the tortured droids for more torture later while Ahsoka is held captive with a group of native Ming Po people, who are definitely not awkward stereotypes, who explain as almost the first word out of their mouths to a stranger that they are a simple people who trust easily and were betrayed. You know, small talk. Later that day, the Ming Po chieftain, Pieter, demands Death Watch leave and return the captives. Pre agrees to do so at sunrise, but it turns out he just means he's going to kill the captives and burn down the village. The carnage upsets Ahsoka, who reveals herself but is captured. Fortunately, Artoo has rebuilt a bunch of combat droids, who stage a rescue while Artoo gets Ahsoka her lightsabers. The battle rages! Ahsoka outduels Pre by blowing up his jet pack, and our heroes try to escape on a landspeeder. Bo Katan grabs her gun and tries to bring in the cat, but is defeated in a fist fight. Ahsoka, Artoo, and Lux make it back to the ship, but before they can head for Coruscant, Lux takes the escape pod, letting Ahsoka know they make a good team, but he has his own path to follow and we reach the end. Mon Mothma did a lot for the Rebellion...she also did a lot for the Jedi Order and for Luke Skywalker. The two had a lot of respect for one another. Here is how Mon Mothma helped Luke Skywalker rebuild the Jedi order. I hope we see more of Mon Mothma's dealings on Coruscant against the Empire. Learn more about your ad choices. A More Civilized Age has never been a show with a plan so much as a set of interests. We've never even really known what is coming in the primary topic for our show, The Clone Wars, and that's allowed us to have some incredible experiences and, we hope, some fun surprises to share with you that compensates for the fact that we can't analyze this with a complete knowledge of the text. That also meant that we never really had a plan for “what happens after we watch The Clone Wars?” That was a conversation for the future. We'd wrap up our project and then think about whether or not there were any other shows that we felt so passionately about that we'd want to widen the scope of AMCA. But it turns out that if you spend two years working on a Star Wars podcast the future might just become the present and force the issue before you are ready. As you might have gleaned when we watched the trailer, Andor had all the hallmarks of a show that would speak to the things we were most interested in when it came to Star Wars. And indeed, from the minute the first episodes came out, it was clear we needed to drop everything and let our own excitement be our guide. So: For the next couple months, we're going to leave Ahsoka on the steps of the Jedi Temple at the end of Season 5 and spend some time with Andor. Now, we have a plan for the rest of the Clone Wars and we'd already started work on Season 6 when we made this turn, so we're not scrapping the heart of what AMCA has been about. But for the next couple months, we're going to be hitting the latest episode of Andor every week and continuing with our monthly Q and As. We hope you're as excited about these next few months of AMCA as we are. It's fair to say that the post-Disney, post-Abrams era of Star Wars has been very hit or miss, but if nothing else it feels like Andor already feels like a show that has paid attention to and is ready to spark more of the most interesting conversations you can have about Star Wars and its fictional history. Will it stick the landing? Your guess is as good as ours, but we're excited to take the ride with you. -Rob Zacny NEXT TIME: Andor Episode 04 Show Notes Huge shout outs to @XEECEEVEVO for the new art!
