Send us a textWhat can a Star Wars show teach us about organizing, resistance, and healing? In this episode of the Amplify RJ Podcast, I sit down with strategist, therapist, and writer Gabes Torres to talk about Andor—yes, that Star Wars show—and what it reveals about real-life revolution. We dive into how Andor de-romanticizes rebellion and reflects the complex realities of movement work: the banality of evil, conflict in organizing, disposability culture, and the painful but necessary tension between rest and resistance. Gabes shares insights from their piece on the show, their organizing and healing work in the Global South, and the ways marine mammals and myth can inform our strategy.Whether or not you've seen the show, this conversation is about so much more than the galaxy far, far away—it's about our world and how we build toward collective liberation with nuance, integrity, and care.0:00 – Intro: What is Andor + Character Breakdown 5:20 – Meet Gabes Torres: Healer, Strategist, Rebel 9:42 – How Andor De-Romanticizes Revolution 14:20 – Disney, Propaganda & Revolutionary Storytelling 19:35 – The Banality of Evil in a Boardroom 25:00 – Real-World Parallels: Propaganda, Gaza, Gorman & Genocide 26:45 – Parenting, Powerlessness & Purpose 29:21 – Consciousness Building as Resistance 32:20 – Gabes on Luthen, Clea & Strategy in Movement 36:42 – Bix, Trauma & Knowing When to Step Back 40:28 – Organizing Through Burnout & Wavering Commitment 44:30 – Humananizing vs. Ruthless Sacrifice47:40 – Disposability Culture in Movements 49:10 – Disagreeing Is Not a Failure of Solidarity 52:00 – Addressing Conflict & Building in Organizing 56:20 – Is there Shared Vision for Our Resistance? 1:00:23 – Activist Ecosystems, Movement Mentorship from Marine Mammals 1:07:30 – Upside Down Triangle: Rethinking Power 1:08:50 – Support Gabes & Psychosocial Care for Organizers Connect with Gabes:https://gabestorres.com/https://www.instagram.com/gabestorres/Read her article: https://gabestorres.substack.com/p/andorSupport mental health care for organizers in the Global South https://gabestorres.com/support/Rep Amplify RJ Merch Connect with us on:Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Threads, YouTube, and TikTok!SUPPORT by sharing this podcast and leaving a rating or review
What happens when trust erodes in a rebellion built on secrets? As Saw, Luthen, and Andor clash with paranoia and doubt, panelists Patrick Mason, Robert King, and Ryan Nafziger ask: is the Rebellion still salvageable? The post Andor: S2, Ep 5: I Have Friends Everywhere appeared first on StarQuest Media.
Wake up babe, new Saw Gerrera backstory just dropped. This week, we're asking what makes a Rebel cell the “real deal.” Is it Saw Gerrera's Cave Angels, who have all the fire—but lack direction? Is it the Ghorman Front, who want the Empire gone, but haven't looked past their front doorstep? And do Luthen, Kleya, and Cassian count, when they keep raising the barrier to entry to the Rebellion? We're asking all this, and whether Dedra cares if Syril lives or dies, in our recap of “I Have Friends Everywhere” (Andor S2, E5).New to Growing Up Skywalker? Star Wars Generations: Andor Season 2 Finale Reactions - The Dawn of RebellionThe groundbreaking Andor series reaches its powerful conclusion, connecting directly to Rogue One and reshaping how we view the Star Wars universe. In this episode, hosts Matthew and Alex share their immediate reactions to the final episodes of Andor Season 2, examining how the show bridges crucial gaps in the Rebellion's formation while delivering some of television's most compelling character arcs. How Does Andor Enhance the Larger Star Wars Narrative? The hosts explore how Andor doesn't just stand alone but actively enriches the entire Star Wars saga. By connecting seamlessly to Rogue One and A New Hope, the series makes the sacrifices in the original trilogy even more meaningful. The show provides essential context for understanding the Rebellion's origins, showing the personal costs and moral compromises that went into fighting the Empire long before Luke Skywalker entered the picture. What Makes Luthen Such a Complex Character?Luthen embodies the moral complexities at the heart of revolution, raising uncomfortable questions about means and ends. As Matthew notes, the character "troubles me the most, and I think that's the point," drawing comparisons to historical revolutionary figures who employed violent tactics in service of just causes. Luthen's own words resonate throughout the series: "I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them," highlighting the central ethical dilemma facing all resistance movements. The hosts debate whether his methods were justified and how his character forces viewers to question their own moral judgments about real-world resistance movements. How Does the Empire Treat Its Own People? The fate of Imperial officers like Dedra Meero and Partagaz reveals a brutal truth: "You could do everything for the Empire, you could give yourself to it... but in the end, no matter how loyal you are, you're expendable." The hosts discuss how the series brilliantly portrays the Empire's callous treatment of even its most dedicated servants, creating a system where middle-management bullies like Krennic thrive while true believers are discarded when no longer useful. What Legacy Is Left Behind? The final moments of the series spark discussion about how characters' sacrifices ripple through the timeline. As Luthen states in his powerful speech, "I burned my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see," foreshadowing the future that Cassian and others will help create but never witness themselves. The hosts debate the controversial ending for Bix's character and whether it serves the narrative or relies too heavily on common tropes.Other Topics Covered:How K2-SO's introduction creates both comedic moments and surprisingly tense action scenesThe significance of Easter eggs connecting to other Star Wars properties, including RebelsWhether Kleya and Cassian might be siblings, and why making this connection would undermine the storyHow actors delivered Emmy-worthy performances across multiple complex rolesThe perfect execution of Andor as a complete two-season story with clear vision from start to finishWhy Orson Krennic's introduction establishes him as the quintessential Imperial middle-manager bullyThe visual parallels between key scenes in the finale and Rogue One's endingAndor has redefined what Star Wars storytelling can achieve on television, creating a rare series that appeals equally to hardcore fans and newcomers to the galaxy far, far away. By focusing on ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances, the show illuminates the personal costs of resistance while never losing sight of why the fight against tyranny matters—even when victory seems impossible and the path forward requires difficult compromises. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. After only 4 weeks - the blink of an eye - it's all over. The best Star Wars story since the Original Trilogy has graced our screens and left us in awe. These final three episodes weren't able to reach the emotional highs of last week's arc, but that wasn't the goal. Instead, it provides time to look back at what brought us here, and sets the stage for the climax of the story to take place not in this moment, but within the now recontextualized film that birthed all of this in the first place, 'Rogue One'. And while the show may carry Cassian's name on the title screen, it's been the cast of characters we've met along the way that truly elevated this experience. Not to pick favourites, but in particular, Luthen and Kleya, who get an episode all to themselves this week are the standouts. And what an episode it was, as their story which shepherded much of the series came to an end, as we all expected it would have to. Embracing those feelings of closure, in the final moments of the series, as Cassian flies off into 'Rogue One', we are treated to our last glimpses of our heroes and villains. From Dedra to Vel and even Perrin, we are left to consider their fates as the story marches with inevitability into what begat all of this way back in 1977. Will we ever see Kleya, Vel, Wilmon, or Bix again? One can only hope - and rebellions? Well, they're built on hope.

(SPOILERS!!!) This week's set of three episodes were extremely heavy, beautiful, tragic, and so well done, we were once again left in awe of this series. That being said, we do have some questions regarding a few of the writing choices that were made, despite how well delivered it was. You'll hear throughout this recap just how much emotion we felt as these episodes really drove home the harsh reality of the Empire's brutality, delivered it through beautiful filming, and wrapped it all up with one of the show's most poignantly written speeches (a perfect compliment to Luthen's speech in Season 1) which left us in tears. There's a LOT to take in, and a lot to process, and even though we question some of the incongruent moments, we both agree this show has delivered some of the best Star Wars moments on television to date. What awaits us with the final three episodes next week? How will they wrap this up and deliver us directly into "Rogue One"? Meet us back here and we'll experience it together. Send us a textThe rebellion begins not with lightsabers or space battles, but with a stirring speech in a prison manufacturing facility. "Never more than 12" – four words that change everything. Andor's brilliance lies in showing us the human side of rebellion through the eyes of ordinary people making extraordinary choices. As we explore the second half of Season 1, we witness Cassian's journey from selfish survivor to reluctant revolutionary. The Narkina 5 prison sequence stands as one of Star Wars' greatest achievements – a sterile nightmare where electrical floors and dehumanizing routines break spirits until Andy Serkis' unforgettable "One way out" speech ignites hope and action.Meanwhile, Marva's death becomes the catalyst for Ferrix's uprising, showing how even in loss, rebellion finds its voice. Her posthumous message, delivered through her faithful droid B2EMO, transforms grief into defiance. We discuss how Star Wars uniquely portrays droids not as machines seeking humanity but as unique life forms with their own emotional landscape. B2EMO's dog-like devotion provides some of the season's most heartbreaking moments.Throughout our conversation, we return to an intriguing question: Is Cassian guided by something greater? Though the Force is never explicitly mentioned, his uncanny ability to be exactly where the rebellion needs him suggests cosmic significance. Luthen's inexplicable decision to recruit Cassian, despite the security risk, hints at forces beyond rational calculation. Perhaps Andor serves as an instrument of the Force without wielding it himself – a messenger carrying hope across the galaxy. What makes Andor revolutionary isn't just its gritty portrayal of life under Empire, but its celebration of how ordinary people become the backbone of resistance. Through exceptional writing, nuanced performances, and philosophical depth, it elevates Star Wars storytelling to new heights while remaining true to the hope that has always defined the franchise.Listen as we break down the masterful storytelling that makes this not just great Star Wars, but simply great television. In it, they discuss how much sway Rogue One will have in the conclusion of the Andor story, how Cassian will work through his final years with K-2SO re-programmed by his side but Bix gone, how Dedra may get further involved with the Death Star work alongside Krennic but could die by the hand of Luthen (and vice-versa), what the role of Mon Mothma and Bail Organa looks like after her escape, if characters with Rogue One backstory like Galen Erso and Bodhi Rook will appear, and if Saw Gerrera gets to have the most plot-heavy and centered storytelling in this final arc of the show.
