DC WILL LEAD THE INDUSTRY!! Superman pre-sale tickets are officially breaking records, and DC is coming in HOT! Greg & Coy break down everything from James Gunn's upcoming Superman—starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White—to what this means for the future of the DCU. We explore the possibility of a Batman & Superman: World's Finest movie, the casting potential of Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman, and what Gunn's DC slate could bring with titles like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Lanterns, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, Booster Gold, Creature Commandos, Waller, and potential multiverse tie-ins with Peacemaker Season 2 and Crisis on Infinite Earths. We also go deep on the cultural impact of Mr. Terrific, speculate on hidden cameos in Superman, debate the rise of spoof movies (Scary Movie 6, Spaceballs 2, Naked Gun reboot), and reflect on the pressures of content creation, mental health, addiction, and honesty in the YouTube world. Critically-acclaimed Andor has returned. Politically sophisticated and emotionally bracing, Tony Gilroy's Star Wars series about the birth of a rebellion has returned for a second and final season. Does it live up to its first season's incredible highs and adult-minded storytelling? We discuss and review the show, its odd release schedule, and where it ranks within the shaky Star Wars canon.

This episode of Welcome To The Party Pal celebrates the second season of Andror, the American science fiction political spy thriller drama television series created by Tony Gilroy for Disney+. In this episode co-hosts Michael Shields and River Jordan explain why they believe this series is an absolute triumph from its inception to its final, heart-wrenching moments. Hosted on Acast. Andor is the greatest Star Wars we've ever seen on any screen and it's not close. My close friend Alan Malfavon joins in to talk about the brilliance of this show, what it means to us, and what we hope to see next.About our guest:Alan Malfavon resituates Mexico's socio-political, cultural, and economic networks with the Atlantic World and the Greater Caribbean, and it dissects and problematizes those networks by centering the Black and Afro-Mexican experience. His research interrogates and subverts archival silences that have erased Black and Afro-Mexican agency from narratives of Mexican identity and nation-state formation, seeking to diversify these narratives by foregrounding the voices, perspectives, and actions of Afro-descendants.

In our podcast review of Andor Season 2, Episodes 4–6, THE HIVE dives into the masterful storytelling, political tension, and character complexity that make this the best Star Wars since...well, Andor Season 1. These episodes blend heist-thriller pacing with meditations on loyalty, sacrifice, and rebellion. While the cast shines—especially Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, and Stellan Skarsgård—it's writer Tony Gilroy who stands as the true hero. His razor-sharp dialogue and slow-burn tension elevate Andor with a near-perfect blend of world-building, suspense, and surprising emotional depth. Richard Linklater is a hit man, but not in the assassin sense of the word. No, the hits he trades in are of the movie variety – stylish cult classics that vary in genre and form, but always manage to ignite something powerful in viewers. It's been that way for three and a half decades now: among his hits, dating back to 1990, are Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight, Boyhood, School of Rock, A Scanner Darkly, Slacker, Waking Life, Everybody Wants Some, Fast Food Nation… the list goes on. No wonder the Texan is one of the most respected names in modern American cinema – a force both prolific and patient, as his multiple movies shot across numerous decades prove. 2014 coming-of-age drama Boyhood was filmed across twelve years, with Merrily We Roll Along – a Paul Mescal-starring Sondheim adaptation, to be shot across twenty years – among his current projects.Earlier this year, he released Hit Man – a romantic comedy of sorts, with a hint of thriller thrown in for good measure, about a bashful college professor with a unique side hustle. Gary, played by the film's co-writer Glen Powell, has a recurring gig with the New Orleans police force, pretending to be an contract killer. He wears a wire to meet with people seeking to order a hit on their spouses, their work colleagues, their parents and so on. It's a gig that's going smoothly for Gary, until he meets Madison, played by Adria Arjona – a woman trying to escape an abusive husband, who Gary begins to fall for. What follows is Linklater in full-blown crowd-pleasing mode.In the conversation you're about to hear, we discuss what it was about this true-ish story, adapted from a newspaper article by journalist Skip Hollandsworth, that spoke to Richard. We talk about the baseball injury that put him on a path to filmmaking (and how it might have led to the unstoppable pace with which he makes movies). And we break down every detail of Hit Man, one of the movies of 2024, in spoiler-filled detail.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. We're grasping at the last vestiges of summer here at Breakfast All Day and we're glad to have you along with us. First, we review of "The Crow," a re-imagining of the tragic 1994 action movie based on the comic book series. Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs co-star. It's not terrible, but the studio didn't need to be cagey about it with critics. In theaters now. Then, we have a spoiler-free review of "Blink Twice," which we both thought was pretty awesome. Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut is a tense and twisty thriller with a terrific cast, led by Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie and Adria Arjona. Also in theaters. We wrap up with Movie News LIVE!, the last one of the month, since Alonso's heading to the Venice Film Festival on Monday. Among the topics we discuss are those fake "Megalopolis" critic quotes, "The Acolyte" season 2 being canceled and the end of Bennifer 2.0. We'll be back with another livestream in early September, so keep an eye out for details. And for our Patreon subscribers, we recap episodes 7 and 8 of "Time Bandits" on Apple TV+, which were both pretty great. We'll finish up the series next week, so stay tuned. Adria Arjona has been showing off her impeccable craft and great range for years now, but Hit Man might be one of her most impressive performances of the bunch. She isn't playing a femme fatale in the film, rather, she's playing a woman playing a femme fatale to better suit what she thinks her new beau wants to see in a potential partner — which is exactly what he's doing to her. It's a mighty complicated concept that demands the most refined screenplay and deft performances. Glen Powell headlines Richard Linklater's Hit Man as the title character, in a sense. Powell's Gary isn't a hit man, but rather, a “hit man.” He's a college professor who moonlights for the New Orleans Police Department by posing as a hit man in attempt to catch people trying to off an enemy. It turns out, Gary is quite good at the gig, effortlessly adapting his image to the type of hit man he thinks his target would best respond to. However, one target throws him for a loop — Arjona's Madison. Madison is struggling with an abusive husband and sees no way out, so tries to hire Gary, posing as Ron, to kill him. Trouble is, Gary winds up falling for Madison, and she winds up falling for him, too — but as Ron.Hit Man is an utterly delightful and hugely entertaining neo-noir, one that required maximum precision to pull off. Powell isn't the only one playing a person putting on a persona in the film. So is Arjona. Pulling off such a performance in a way that holds tight to the grounded challenges that put their characters in these positions is no easy task, but Arjona excels tackling the challenge. While Madison was likely a strong character on the page, there's no doubt that Arjona's work is what makes her soar. How'd Arjona acquire the skill set to genre jump, entertain and craft a deeply human character all at once? That's exactly what we discussed during our Collider Ladies Night interview in celebration of the release of Hit Man, which is now available to stream on Netflix. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
