Solénoïde (07.08.2023) - Phénomène musical originaire d'Egypte, Nadah El Shazly nous offre un premier album "Ahwar" qui ouvre une brèche étonnante dans le champ de la musique arabe à tendance expérimentale. L'alchimie sonore est à la fois hautement inventive et sensuelle, tissant des liens inédits entre cordes orientales, jazz, pop et électronique... En radiobalisage dans cette mission 202 ! Aussi au programme, une échappée musicale de Catherine Graindorge, au sein de son trio Nile On Wax, qui nous emmène dans des sphères émotionnelles remplies d'ambiguïté. Chevauchant les territoires post-rock, néo-classique et cinématographique, leur album "Bell Dogs" s'impose comme un modèle du genre. Et enfin le britannique Mike Cooper, vétéran de la musique expérimentale et activiste de la guitare blues et folk depuis le début des années 70, viendra assembler field recordings, interférences radios, sons de gamelan et slide guitare sur son album "Raft" (Room40). Un bijoux d'ambient-music immersive à écouter sans modération !

Our special guest for this episode is Nadah el Shazly, Cairo-based producer, composer and performer. Her work both radically reinvents the popular music of her homeland from the early 20th century and explores new sonic and harmonic frontiers. She released her critically acclaimed debut album Ahwar in November 2017 via Nawa Recordings. Welcome to Sonosphere, the podcast that explores the sounds all around us. The first artist we present in our 2019 Sound Observation series is Nadah El Shazly, Egyptian composer, musician and producer. She will be performing at Crosstown Arts' Green Room in Memphis, TN on May 31st as a part of her first tour in the U.S. We are so excited to have her in Memphis. Performance at 8pm. Sonosphere spoke briefly with Nadah prior to her show. She talks about collaborating in the Cairo music scene, her debut album and her experiences on her first U.S. tour.  Thanks for listening.
