I redaktionen Helle Winther. Carolina Colque and Sergio Armella are the owners of Ephedra Restaurant outside of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Let me be clear when I say that this is a very unlikely restaurant. Two young, local Atacameños with no cooking experience, have opened a tasting menu restaurant in the Atacama Desert, the driest place on earth. It's not even in the main town, San Pedro de Atacama, but in an ayllu, a traditional community a dozen kilometers away. I urge you to just go to their Instagram page right now and look at the food they are making and the ingredients they are working with. It will blow your mind. The Atacama Desert, in the far north of Chile, is a special place. I have been there a few times over the years. The scenery is unreal, almost lunar at times, but it is the flavors there that have always excited me. In a place with little rain, most of the plants grow slowly, into large shrubs with brittle branches that develop one-of-a-kind flavors. There are also fruit trees, leguminous pods and fragrant flowers that only come out when there is a hint of moisture in the air. This is the kind of landscape Carolina and Sergio are working with. Before starting the restaurant, Sergio's cooking experience consisted of a Neapolitan pizza business they tried out during the pandemic, then he staged at Geranium, the 3 Michelin star restaurant in Copenhagen, which is extremely technical, for a few months. What makes Ephedra special is their will to create a distinct experience in the place they are from. These unique ecosystems, not to mention the cultures that support them, are what makes Latin American food special.Read More at New Worlder.

#139 - Figures

English with Mike

Grown-ups love figures. When you tell them that you have a new friend, they never ask you about essential matters. They never say 'what does his voice sound like? What games does he love best? Does he collect butterflies?' Instead they demand 'How old is he? How many brothers has he? How much does he weigh? How much does his father earn?' Only from these figures do they think they have learned about that person. If you were to say to the grown-ups: 'I saw a beautiful house made of rosy brick, with geraniums in the windows and doves on the roof', they would not be able to get any idea of the house at all. You must say: I saw a house that cost twenty thousand dollars.' Then they would exclaim 'Oh, what a pretty house that is !' Just so, you might say to them: 'The proof that the little prince existed is that he was charming, that he laughed, and that he was looking for a sheep. If anybody wants a sheep, that's the proof that he exists

Quite often, when a new or curious gardener wants to know, “What should I plant in my garden?” One of my common responses is: “it's hard to go wrong with All-America Selections Winners.” The AAS  has been independently trialing and judging plants, across North America, since the 1930's. The judges are experts in the field of horticulture, including seed and plant developers, arboretums, garden centers, public gardens, and land grant universities.Among the AAS winners that I've tried that have found a nearly permanent place in my garden include the "Arizona Apricot" Gaillardia,  the "Queen Sophia" marigold, "Sugar Snap" peas,  sweet peppers such as the "Cornito Giallo" , "Giant Marconi", and my all-time favorite sweet pepper, the "Gypsy". And,  tomatoes: Big Beef, Celebrity, Chef's Choice Orange, and Juliet. So, what are the 2024 winners? “There is a voice inside that does not use words. Listen.” ~ Rumi Guest Introduction:  Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life podcast. I'm your host Cindy MacMillan. I have conversations with coaches, spiritual explorers and thought leaders from all walks of life about beginnings, endings, and the messy bits in-between. Self-love, well-being, and mindset are at the heart of our conversations because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well.  In this episode, I'm thrilled to dive into the work of Judith Maxey, whose exploration into alternative and traditional healing practices began while pursuing a Master's degree in Applied Anthropology, exploring the cultural roots of healing.   Judith is the owner of Almus Energy Medicine, has been practicing energy medicine for over 15 years.  She is an experienced and certified Usui/Holy Fire® and Karuna Reiki® master teacher, mentor, shamanic practitioner, meditation guide and essential oil specialist. In 2023, she also became a certified End-of-Life Doula. Here's a glimpse of our conversation: Welcome Judith. I've really been looking forward to this conversation. Judith: “There's always an underlying level of grief. Right now, I feel, in part because of the pandemic we just simply did not acknowledge the grieving that might have happened. That should have happened because we have a very, in my opinion, narrow perspective on what grief is.” Judith: “I'm a doTERRA wellness advocate, so I use mostly doTERRA oils. I believe in their quality, but I use a Snow Lotus aromatherapy oil that was created by a Five Element Acupuncturist, and it's called Sedate Metal and so from the Chinese medicine perspective. It's about metal and it's very good in fall for the lungs where we hold grief and it is a blend of Copaiba balsam, Atlas cedarwood, Amyris, and Geranium.  And I would never even attempt to blend it the way that Peter Holmes does. It's just an amazing blend. I keep it in my office.” Judith: “I'm so happy that there are end-of-life doulas  for the person who is passing and also for everyone involved  and that's what I found was really there was so much learning  in my end of life doula training  about that about the  interactions between the caregivers and what was happening for everyone how to be  aware of the cues and  Like everything else, Cindy,  again, I feel like I say a certain few things throughout the conversation, but it's about being present.” Judith: “And then I started, in the same community as my Reiki teacher, I'll give her a shout out, Colleen Benelli, Licensed Reiki Teacher, The International Center for Reiki Training. She was also involved in The LightSong Community of 21st Century Shamanism and Energy Medicine. So, I started doing core shamanism training as well.” Judith: “You are meant to use us and, and we're meant to work together. And so, I started bringing in essential oils, the plants to my work.  And I just feel like the combination of the shamanic practices that, I'd say in general, allow you to work with larger energies than yourself, Reiki, and the miracle, the magic of the plants, you know, getting to work with those three in a session with someone is a powerhouse. It's so supportive. Judith: “I would suggest, your ceremony be specific to you and what you're comfortable with. And most importantly, what you will actually do.  You know, we can look at a lot of different ceremonies, but what calls to you? Do you want to gather in a big crowd? Do you want to gather with your three closest friends? In the darkness, with a candle? Being grateful?  Saying out loud what you want to get rid of?  You know?  I think those elements are the important part. Again, gratitude, community, release, and calling in what you would like for the new year or your life. I'll say that I would suggest those same elements for any ceremony. Judith: “Forgiveness is so much larger than that. A little bit like grief, right?” Judith: “I also want to say that in 2024. I'll be coming out with Plant Speak Retreats, and that's for the doTERRA community to learn how to build relationships, spiritual personal energetic relationships with the oils.” Resource Mentioned: Firewalk Ceremony  You can find Judith Maxey at: Website Instagram Mentorship Holistic Living: Embracing Wholeness In Everyday Life Series The Healing Power of Sound Baths with Stephanie Weber Trust in Your Soul with Sonee Singh Empowering Your Inner Wellness Warrior: Insights from Joyce Jimenez Journey of Healing with Alana Keddie Conversation with Julie Jancius: The Angel Medium Confidence is a Journey with Sha Sparks

The practices included knocking on the doors of their bodies, massaging the long marriage meridian, and gently tapping on the face and neck. She encouraged the group to use these practices to start their day and to relax the neck, a thin muscle called the Platysma. Chinese Face Reflexology Techniques for Emotional Tension Relief Anne-Caroline discussed various techniques of Chinese face reflexology and acupressure for managing grief and emotional tension. She emphasized the importance of the massage being slow and light. She also introduced a Japanese forest blend for the fall season, which is beneficial for strengthening the metal element. They also recommended keeping a roll-on essential oil with you for moments when you need to let go of something. Anne-Caroline emphasized the importance of having a personal story or affirmation while doing self-care practices, which can enhance their efficiency. Dianne added techniques for finding the acupressure points and highlighted the relationship between the lung and kidney points.
