The life of 33-year-old Danicka Bergeson came to a tragic end in her Hopkins, Minnesota, home on July 8, when she was found dead, wrapped in layers of blankets. Nearly two months after her demise, her boyfriend, 39-year-old Matthew Brenneman, is facing serious charges, including second-degree murder and second-degree murder while under a restraining order. The status of his plea or whether he has retained legal counsel remains unclear. The discovery of Danicka's body was prompted by her building manager, who reported hearing "groaning, yelling, and banging" sounds coming from her apartment. Responding officers found Brenneman inside the bathroom, "grunting, and growling," and reeking of bleach, as detailed in the complaint filed. Danicka's father, David Bergeson, expressed his grief to KARE11, remembering his daughter as a vivacious woman with a strong moral code. "Everything with her was always black or white. She knew exactly what was right and wrong," he said. Nancy Andrews, a close friend of Danicka, echoed similar sentiments on her obituary page, noting her infectious smile, compassion for animals, and a passion for learning. The complaint outlines a timeline of events that led to the discovery of Bergeson's body. Concerns for her safety were first raised by friends and family on July 2. On July 7, a message sent from Bergeson's phone to her mother raised further suspicions, as it did not sound like something she would say. Phone records indicate that Brenneman was near Bergeson's residence on June 29, only two days after being released from jail for a prior assault on her. At that time, a restraining order against him was active. The complaint goes on to document a history of violence between the couple, with multiple alleged incidents of assault, including biting and punching. Following an attack in April, Brenneman reportedly texted a friend, claiming he gave Bergeson a black eye and that she "deserved it, if any woman ever has." During the investigation, police found what appeared to be bloody clothing in a guest bedroom of the apartment. Additionally, Brenneman left a series of notes throughout the apartment, proclaiming his innocence and denying ever being physically abusive to a woman. However, this claim was contradicted by the mother of Brenneman's child, who alleged that he had pinned her to the bed and hit her on one occasion. Currently, Brenneman is being held under a $1,500,000 bail for each murder charge. Despite the autopsy revealing numerous wounds on Bergeson's body, the nature of her death was classified as "undetermined." In the aftermath of this tragic incident, a fundraiser has been organized to assist Bergeson's family with funeral expenses. The case of Danicka Bergeson underscores the pervasive and persistent issue of domestic violence that afflicts individuals and families worldwide. It is of paramount importance to offer support to victims and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? As summer turned to fall in September of 1976, three of the four former Beatles found themselves in challenging situations. Ringo Starr's new LP Rotogravure was bursting with pride and ambition from its principle artist, but a lukewarm reception by critics and the public illuminated the first cracks in Starr's successful three-year hit-making streak. Never one to give up, Ringo doubled down on the album's promotion - filming several music videos for the record's singles as well as embarking on a radio interview tour wherein the former fab talked recording, writing, and his recent engagement to fiancé Nancy Andrews. George Harrison's troubles were monetary, having lost the monumental copyright court case over his hit 1970 single My Sweet Lord and its similarities to the 1963 Chiffons hit He's So Fine. As George awaited the judge's punitive damages order, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and baby Sean were in Massachusetts visiting with macrobiotic diet guru Michio Kushi. While the meeting went well, the Lennons were subject to increasing attention from fans and local press, eventually driving them home from their retreat. Paul McCartney's fortunes weren't quite so tumultuous - as the Wings Over the World tour entered its final leg in a stint of shows across Europe to the same roaring crowds and rave reviews that had greeted the band in North America. Stops in Austria, Italy, Germany and even Yugoslavia (becoming the first Beatle to perform from behind the "iron curtain") marked the continued success and validation of Wings, a welcome and well-earned feat for the McCartneys. The World Natural Bodybuilding Federation was founded in 1989, and since its inception led the way in professionalism for drug-free bodybuilding. We have the pleasure of speaking to one of the heads, Bob Bell, who started as a WNBF competitor, became a promoter, and now sits at the helm with Tina Smith and Nancy Andrews. The story of this progression is an intriguing one that gives insight into the complexities of keeping a sporting organization alive and flourishing. Further, just how do you decide winners in a fair and consistent way in a subjective sport? Tune into this episode to learn the answer and hear the story of the WNBF.

Services Acquisitions make up approximately 50% of the Air Force expenditures. A significant amount of that spend is for specialized services outside of the Weapon System Program Offices that are overseen by the Program Executive Office Combat and Mission Support. These services range from support of test operations, design and engineering, and technical data to support of facility services of our bases and emergency services to forward deployed locations. Nancy Andrews is the Program Executive Officer of Combat and Mission Support and is also the Senior Services Manager for Services. In this episode, she talks about some of the biggest challenges in Services Acquisition and what goals and initiatives her team has to tackle those challenges. She also gives perspective as a former contracting professional working in a program manager role. We're happy to announce that plans for season 2 are in the works! In the meantime, we thought Voices of Duke Health listeners might enjoy this vignette about Nancy C. Andrews, MD, PhD, produced by Joseph O'Connell. As a teenager, Dr. Andrews brought some unusual house guests back to her parents' home in upstate New York: 30 live horseshoe crabs. In this bonus episode, Andrews looks back on her early formation as a physician-scientist and her journey to becoming the first woman dean of a top ten medical school.
What does the word “Appalachia” conjure? For a lot of people, the answer was “black and white photography.” You can still see a lot of the old-timey photos in a Google search. Nancy Andrews and 100 Days in Appalachia are changing that.

The B&H Photography Podcast was very fortunate to be invited to the 29th Eddie Adams Workshop this year. The annual workshop, officially sponsored by Nikon, with support from B&H, is a unique and inspiring event, bringing together 100 young photographers with some of the world’s most recognized photojournalists and editors, including thirteen Pulitzer Prize winners, for four intense days of photographic presentation and collaboration. On today’s podcast, we discuss editing for newspapers and news sites and the working relationship between photojournalists and their editors. In the first half of the episode, we speak with Nancy Andrews, the former Director of Photography at The Detroit Free Press and current Ogden Visiting Professor for Media Innovation, Reed College of Media at West Virginia University, and Colin Crawford, the Deputy Managing Editor of Visual Journalism at the Los Angeles Times. Both started as photojournalists and we chat about the differences between photographers and editors, but we concentrate our talk on how an editor can guide a photographer to improve their work. After a short break, we resume with Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Michael Williamson and MaryAnne Golon, Assistant Managing Editor and Director of Photography at the Washington Post. In addition to being colleauges, Williamson and Golon are old friends, and we discuss the working relationship between a photographer and an editor and how collaboration takes concept to completed series.
