With the return of Ran Gvili's body, many Jewish leaders are publicly inviting community members to stand up from their proverbial shivas and re-engage with normal life. Federations across North America are welcoming—even memorializing—the return of ceremonial dog tags and yellow pins. But it's been two and a half years of incorporating these thoughts into Jewish ritual life, adding prayers for the hostages at High Holidays and the Shabbat table. What happens now? Can we ever truly go "back to normal"? Our three rabbinic podcasters discuss on this week's episode of Not in Heaven. Later in the episode, they look at the Jewish response to the ICE raids in the United States. Some Jews are offering to hide their Haitian caregivers as President Donald Trump's administration cracks down on deportations; some rabbis are mobilizing in Minnesota after immigration officers murdered a number of civilian protesters. Where is the Jewish community standing during this fraught time in American political life? Mentor Sessions Ep. 051: Giacomo Zucco on Bitcoin's 2026 Boom - ARK Scaling Revolution, Privacy Wars, Cypherpunk Survival, and Why Nation-States Fuel Bitcoin's WinWhat if Bitcoin's biggest problem in 2025 was too much success—lulling us into complacency on privacy, self-custody, and true adoption? Giacomo Zucco, Bitcoin OG and Plan B Network founder, warns that 2026 could flip the script with global upheavals driving real-world use cases for censorship-resistant tools. In this deep-dive interview on the BTC Sessions channel, Giacomo breaks down ARK as Lightning Network's "missing piece" for massive scaling, why privacy by omission beats obfuscation for cost savings and regulatory deniability, and how covenants could make Bitcoin non-interactive, safer, and cheaper. He unpacks Europe's privacy crackdown, Switzerland's fading safe-haven status, and the spectrum of trust in solutions like eCash, Liquid, and Spark—plus Plan B's global education push, including university courses, high-school node setups in El Salvador, and the upcoming Cypher Tank pitch show. Giacomo's optimistic twist: Bitcoin thrives on adversaries like failing nation-states and unsustainable ETFs/stablecoins, ensuring long-term dominance through low-time-preference building. If you're stacking sats and seeking Bitcoin's cypherpunk fundamentals beyond price hype, this is your white pill for 2026 sovereignty.About Giacomo ZuccoX: https://x.com/giacomozuccoPlan B Network: https://planb.networkCypher Tank Premiere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHGVElfFgbkChapters:00:00:00 Intro & 2026 Outlook00:01:26 Success & Adversity Issues00:02:02 Global Privacy Deterioration00:03:27 Fundamentals Focus Shift00:05:05 ARK as Scaling Game-Changer00:07:31 ARK Privacy & Implementation00:08:26 ARK-Lightning Integration00:09:08 Research & Tech Advances00:10:26 Bitcoin Education Boom00:11:16 Scaling Trust Trade-Offs00:13:20 Security Models Spectrum00:15:01 Future Scaling Predictions00:17:45 Federations & HSM Additions00:19:57 Scaling Enables Better Privacy00:22:44 Omission Privacy Superiority00:27:12 Soft Fork Consensus Struggles00:28:57 Taproot Legacy Lessons00:30:52 Covenants for UX Revolution00:33:43 Europe's Privacy Weakness00:36:08 Switzerland's Privacy Decay00:42:39 Plan B Network Expansion00:45:14 Forum & El Salvador Event00:45:58 Cypher Tank Pitch Show00:48:22 Professional Bitcoin Program00:50:23 Cypher Tank Judges00:51:11 Cypherpunk Ethos Risks00:52:08 Adoption vs. Purity00:53:24 Remnant Strategy Wins00:55:08 Cycles Building Cores00:57:47 Uncompromising Approach00:58:14 Absolute Cypherpunk Growth00:58:28 Low Fees & ETF Impact00:59:24 Optimism on Rivals' Fall01:01:20 Nation-States as Allies01:05:32 Giacomo Links & Wrap-Up⚡ POWERED by Abundant Mines: Fully managed Bitcoin mining. Mentor Sessions Ep. 049: Jeff Booth vs Simon Dixon: Bitcoin's Abundant Future or Total Dystopian Nightmare? What if Bitcoin's promise of a deflationary free market utopia crushes the global surveillance state—or traps 95% in a multipolar prison of programmable money, elite control, and endless chaos? In this must-watch, visionary Jeff Booth clashes with geopolitical expert Simon Dixon on whether Bitcoin enforces abundance for all through unstoppable privacy tech like Fedi and Nostr, or merely offers an escape hatch for the few amid dollar demise, AI weaponization, and financial industrial complex capture. From Venezuela's turmoil and Iranian protests to UK thought police and precious metals surges, they expose how centralized custody in ETFs and treasury companies co-opts Bitcoin, risking chain forks and surveillance nightmares. Jeff's optimistic blueprint for agency-driven freedom battles Simon's stark warnings of hybrid systems where the masses "own nothing and be happy," tying into Bitcoin self-custody, decentralized mining, and circular economies as your shield against fiscal dominance and currency wars. If you're stacking sats in a Bitcoin-only world, this debate reveals why privacy isn't optional—it's your path to sovereignty or subjugation. Patrick Nally, one of the founding fathers of the sports marketing industry through his agency West Nally, was a true “gamechanger” at the peak of his success. In this episode, we dive deep into Patrick's journey—from leaving school at 15 to pioneering the commercial architecture behind the Olympic Games, FIFA, UEFA, and IAAF. These programs, now worth billions, were shaped by one man's vision. Listen to the stories behind the deals, the drama, and the legacy. And if you want more, grab Patrick's book. Key Highlights Left school at 15, started as a messenger boy in an advertising agency, moved into PR Learned brand dynamics, met Peter West At 20, launched a new PR division and proposed sport as a “means of communication” — salary: £1,000/year Founded West Nally in the early '70s; early clients included Benson & Hedges, Gillette — across golf, tennis, snooker Grew the agency, moved to larger offices, worked with British Olympics (with BP), brought Kraft into athletics — first bib number sponsorship (1972 & 1976) Expanded internationally — Australia, U.S. — as brands saw sport as a goodwill platform Met Horst Dassler (adidas) in 1974 post–World Cup; FIFA had 5 staff, no money — Patrick found the funding Created FIFA's development program, brought Coca-Cola in — first global media budget in sport Launched projects with IAAF, GAISF, and others; 40–50 staff; new offices in Canada, Japan (with Jack Sakazaki) Brought Sepp Blatter into Coca-Cola's FIFA development program 1978 Argentina World Cup: protected Coca-Cola's rights amid political upheaval; Argentina needed to win — and did Coca-Cola guaranteed the CHF 12 million budget — first World Cup with a commercial structure Olympic stories: began talks with Moscow 1980 organizers in 1976, well before the boycott Deals with Levi's, Wrigley's — early brand integration into Olympic movement Juan Antonio Samaranch begins positioning himself Summer & Winter Olympics staggered every two years Explored ownership of Olympic rings; signed key National Olympic Committees (NOCs) Driven by desire to achieve; chess-player mindset; failure not an option; importance of the company you keep 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain: launched Inter-Soccer program to connect FIFA and UEFA events Advocated for “clean stadiums” at the Olympics — supported by IOC Director Monique Berlioux 1984 LA Olympics: Peter Ueberroth's commercial breakthrough Horst Dassler stories: son of adidas founder Adi Dassler; payments to Havelange, Primo Nebiolo, and Jean-Marie Weber (“the bag man”) Golden Series in track & field — precursor to IAAF World Championships At its peak, West Nally had hundreds of staff and offices in London, LA, NY, Tokyo, Australia Early '80s: ISL (International Sport and Leisure) enters — “The Billion Dollar Steal” Dassler asked Patrick to buy him out of SMPI (Monaco); Dentsu made a better offer — ISL was born Hakuhodo worked closely with West Nally in Japan — triggered Dentsu's move After Horst's death, a war on all fronts; Patrick stepped away Patrick's book: setting the record straight on the creation of the industry and West Nally's legacy What drives him today: Poker Project, UNESCO, World Olympians Association About Patrick Nally has often been described as the founding father of modern sports marketing. Through West Nally, the company he founded in 1970 with Peter West, he created the blueprint on which much of sports marketing is based to this day. His vision and innovation have shaped the way the sports business operates. Patrick's work created a revolution in sports marketing which involved the identification, ownership and branding of rights and assets, which could then be packaged and offered to category specific sponsors. This seminal advance ensured valuable exclusivity over a defined and protected set of rights for sponsor brands and, in doing so, ensured that rights owners benefited from previously unheard of fee levels while brands were empowered to create powerful and hugely effective campaigns. It was an approach, which demanded a fresh mind-set from governing bodies, and event hosts, which had previously struggled to manage commercial activities. His approach was the foundation of both FIFA's and the IOC's long term marketing strategy Patrick was responsible for bringing Coca Cola into football; first as the corporate backer of FIFA's global development programme, then as a founder member of the Inter Soccer 4 programme which generated previously unimaginable sponsorship revenues for major FIFA and UEFA competitions. He continues to work with many of the world's best-known brands and leading sports properties and Federations to create outstanding commercial value and marketing benefit for all parties. One of his current roles is to support, as President, the International Federation of Match Poker – a Mind Sport in an eSport wrapper. For an activity to be recognized as a sport. A “sport” must; contain an element of competition not rely on any element of “luck” specifically integrated into the sport and not rely on equipment that is provided by a single supplier. Nally pioneered the development of Match Poker as a digital method of playing poker, and specifically designed to offer poker as an official world sport”. To meet the definition of “sport”, Match Poker was designed so that a large part of the luck inherent in poker was removed and was achieved by having the same cards dealt to players in corresponding positions each time the hand is played – followed by the same flop, turn and river. A player's performance is then judged not on how much he won or lost on a hand, but rather by comparing his play with that of every other player who had played that hand. To remove any ‘human error' Match Poker doesn't use cards or chips and is fully digital. Nally remains one of the best-connected individuals and most effective radical thinkers in sports marketing and is at the heart of thought-leadership in the sector through his consultancy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Nally Follow us on our social sites for the latest updates Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sportsentrepreneurs/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/marcusluerpodcast LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/sports-entrepreneurs Website: https://marcusluer.com Podcast: https://marcusluer.com/podcast To get in touch, please email us at podcast@marcusluer.com Feel Good by MusicbyAden https://soundcloud.com/musicbyaden Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/_feel-good Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/bvgIqqRStcQ

In 2022, the AFL-CIO Executive Board established a commission on strengthening state federations and area and central labor councils, with the purpose of recommending ways to modernize and revitalize these organizations. Given the tremendous collaboration with the area Councils and State Feds during the BCTGM's high profile strikes in 2021 and 2022—namely at FritoLay, Nabisco and Kellogg's—AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler asked President Shelton to be a commissioner in this endeavor. Shelton was among a select group of AFL-CIO Executive Council members to conduct site visits throughout the U.S. to facilitate discussions with Union members. He also incorporated messaging to BCTGM members at regional meetings, telling them, “the good and admirable work done by state federations and CLCs benefits EVERY BCTGM Local Union—whether the Local is a dues-paying affiliate or not.” Shelton reminded BCTGM Local Union leaders that if we are not contributing, we are “free loaders” and no different than those workers in right-to-work states who won't join the Union but claim all the benefits. A handful of years later, the BCTGM Voices Project rounded up several Local Union leaders to offer more on what that contribution looks like. Guests: Taylor Almond – Financial Secretary/Principal Officer, BCTGM Local 114 (Portland, Ore.); sits on the Executive Board for the Northwest Oregon Labor Council as well as the state level Oregon AFL-CIO, Kevin Bradshaw – Member, BCTGM Local 252G (Memphis, Tenn.); President of the Memphis and West Tennessee Central Labor Council and Vice President for the state level Tennessee AFL-CIO. Wally Borgan – President, BCTGM Local 22 (Minneapolis, Minn.) talks about being affiliated with the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation, the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation and the state level Minnesota AFL-CIO. Jake Watkins – Financial Secretary, BCTGM Local 372A (Indianapolis, Ind.); Recording Secretary for both the Central Indiana AFL-CIO and the Hoosier Heartland Labor Federation. Mark Lee – Financial Secretary/Principal Officer, BCTGM Local 57 (Columbus, Ohio); Vice President of the Central Ohio Labor Council, AFL-CIO, also affiliates with the Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council and the state level Ohio AFL-CIO.

Love him or hate him, you've probably heard of Shabbos Kestenbaum —the Harvard student who made waves with his RNC speech and lawsuit against Harvard over campus antisemitism. Take that resume to your Jewish mother! In case you don't know, the Jewish Federations of North America is the umbrella organization for the different Jewish organizations, and they respond to the needs of Jews in the US, Israel and around the world. The Federation raises about 2 billion annually, which is enough for a couple of Air Force Ones I reckon.Eric was kind enough to sit with us for over an hour to discuss the state of Jews in America today, why 80% of Jews support Israel, and why we can't afford to be divided. He patiently answered all our dumb questions including: do the Jewish organizations bear any responsibility for he outbreak of antisemitism? Should we care what the world thinks? And how should we save the Jews with a million, ok a billion, dollars. This is a public episode. Netball officials are at the whim of the Commonwealth Games scheduling as they explore player eligibility options. Pressure is mounting on the New Zealand governing body to allow overseas-based athletes to feature for the Silver Ferns. The players' association has suggested moving the domestic tournament before or after the Australian competition, so their members can compete in both. Netball New Zealand boss Jennie Wyllie told Mike Hosking they don't control the Commonwealth Games, and it becomes difficult from a broadcast and commercial perspective when it keeps moving. She says that ideally, they'd have some certainty, and the Games would sit outside of the window, but they're at the whim of how the Federations plan it. Wyllie's open to shifting the local competition from 2027. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Why are there so many federations? Is it just because people can't get along? Without getting too far down in the details of each incident, you must ask, “Why is there nearly always some kind of drama within federations?” No one really knows, but it's possible to take some guesses. Is there any hope for unified federations in powerlifting, or is there too much friction? She started her historical martial arts career in Toulouse before moving to Finland, like all sensible people, where she co-founded the Tampere HEMA club. She is a member of the board of the French Federation of Historical European Martial Arts. And she has served on the executive board of the International Federation of Historical European Martial Arts. We talk a bit about what these federations are and how they help, and move on to talk about Marine's master's in plant science and the fascinating ways that plants can be used to help restore the environment and farm more sustainably. Here is a picture of Marine's favourite plant, the Judas Tree (Cercis Siliquastrum): Once Marine has finished her Master's thesis, she plans to work on a project for the French Federation to improve HEMA practitioners' body awareness and understanding of how to prevent injury. The project will produce a series of leaflets to give people a basic overview, rather than going into massive depth and detail on these topics. Guy is working on a similar project, called Jumppa, to cover prehab and conditioning for historical martial artists. So, look out for both of those in a few months' time. Marine is a fan of fencing with sharps and towards the interview we talk about the benefits of training with sharps, but also the challenges of working with people who don't seem to have any awareness of the danger of having a very pointy sword in the vicinity of their face.
Today I speak with IFBB Bikini Pro Lisa Reid, a 32 year old newly crowned Bikini Pro from Australia who entered her first competition back in 2014 and was immediately hooked. Now, almost a decade later I has competed in 23 shows and her passion and love for the sport only continues to grow.
