Part 1 Living Sober by Anonymous Summary"Living Sober" by Anonymous is a practical guide for individuals in recovery from alcoholism and addiction. The book is published by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and provides straightforward, actionable advice for maintaining sobriety after the initial phase of treatment. Summary:Understanding Sobriety: The book emphasizes that sobriety is a continuous journey rather than a single goal. It explores the emotional and psychological aspects of recovery, clarifying that living sober means learning to face life's challenges without the crutch of substances.Daily Challenges: "Living Sober" identifies common triggers and situations that can lead to relapse. It urges readers to recognize these challenges and develop coping strategies. Topics covered include dealing with cravings, maintaining relationships, and handling stress without alcohol or drugs.Practical Strategies: Each chapter offers practical steps and tips for daily living. This includes creating a support system, engaging in new hobbies, setting realistic goals, and making healthy lifestyle choices. The book encourages readers to stay active and connected to others who understand their recovery journey. The Importance of Community: The text promotes the significance of community and social connections. It underscores the value of attending AA meetings and engaging with fellow sober individuals for encouragement and support.Reflection and Self-Assessment: The book encourages readers to reflect on their past behaviors and motives for drinking or using drugs. It prompts readers to consider their triggers and to develop a personal action plan for staying sober.Acceptance and Change: A key theme is acceptance — accepting one's history with addiction while committing to change. It urges individuals in recovery to confront their feelings, embrace vulnerability, and seek help when needed. Conclusion:"Living Sober" serves as a valuable resource and companion for those navigating the early stages of sobriety. Its straightforward approach provides practical advice and encouragement, reinforcing the message that recovery is possible with the right tools and support.Part 2 Living Sober Author"Living Sober" is a well-known book primarily associated with the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) fellowship but is attributed to the collective wisdom and experiences of many individuals within the organization rather than a single identifiable author. As such, the author is often referred to simply as "Anonymous," which reflects the principles of AA, emphasizing group support and shared experiences over personal attribution. Release Date"Living Sober" was originally published in 1975. The book serves as a manual for individuals in recovery from alcoholism, presenting practical advice aimed at helping them maintain sobriety through various strategies and personal narratives of sober living. One of the scariest scenes in Finding Nemo was when Dory & Merlin swam through the blue trench—being afraid and vulnerable out in the open ocean. Men's coach Bob Smith shares his experiences personally and professionally in how doing that—feeling and accepting negative emotions including vulnerability—opens up individual happiness and leads the way to more connection in relationships."When we actually do go to that place of 'this is who I am,' I embrace all of it—the light and the darkness, the good and the bad, the things I'm embarrassed about, the things I'm proud of, that's when we can have something to connect with somebody over and that's what draws people in and brings connection rather than rejection and disconnection, which is what scares us."
It's wrestling history, hijinks, and hot coffee as the new edition of The Outdated Wrestling Hour - hosted by former PWI managing editor Bob Smith and co-hosted by Joe Puccio (Generation X-Wire.com) - welcomes Joey Harris of the unique (and succinct) wrestling podcast The Cup Of Joe Wrestling Show. Harris, a Virginia native, has the distinction of producing one of the shortest wrestling podcasts around - usually less than half an hour - but one that manages to cram a lot of history into every episode. Also: Smith and Puccio whimsically gripe about aging; talk about the rise of the current indie mat scene; look back at classic wrestling as only this unique pair can do; and much, much more on pro wrestling's most upbeat hour!Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. In this episode of The Codependent Doctor, I am excited to present part two of our miniseries on addictions, focusing specifically on the transformative power of 12-step programs. Whether you're familiar with Alcoholics Anonymous or simply curious about the principles behind these programs, this episode is designed to provide valuable insights for everyone—whether you're on your own recovery journey, supporting someone else, or just looking to learn more.We begin by exploring the origins of 12-step programs, which date back to the 1930s with the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith. Their journey of mutual support laid the groundwork for a model that has since helped millions worldwide. At the heart of these programs are the 12 steps, a series of actions that guide individuals through understanding their problems, taking accountability, and finding healing.I break down the first three steps, emphasizing the importance of surrender, hope, and trust. Step one involves admitting powerlessness over addiction and recognizing that life has become unmanageable. This step is often the hardest for many, as it requires a deep level of honesty and acceptance. Step two encourages individuals to believe in a power greater than themselves, fostering hope and openness to change. Step three is about making a conscious decision to turn one's will and life over to this higher power, emphasizing the need to let go of control. As we delve deeper into the steps, I discuss steps four through nine, which focus on accountability and making amends. These steps encourage self-reflection, vulnerability, and the willingness to take responsibility for past actions. I share personal anecdotes to illustrate the emotional challenges and profound growth that can come from this process. The final steps—ten through twelve—center on spiritual growth and service. I highlight the importance of ongoing self-awareness, connecting with a higher power, and sharing one's journey with others. The power of community and shared experiences in 12-step programs is a recurring theme, as it provides a supportive environment where individuals can feel understood and accepted.Throughout the episode, I address common myths and misconceptions about 12-step programs, such as the belief that they require religious affiliation or that they are only for those with substance addictions. I emphasize that these programs are adaptable and can be beneficial for anyone facing various challenges in life. While I celebrate the effectiveness of 12-step programs, I also acknowledge that they may not be for everyone. I touch on alternative recovery methods that will be explored in the next episodeSend us a text

Tonight we are joined by Marjorie Bither the daughter of Bob Smith, missing in Maine. On November 18, 1997, a bright and crisp autumn day unfolded as Bob Smith, a 70-year-old farmer from Caribou, embarked on a deer hunting expedition with his wife. Standing tall at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing around 220 pounds, Bob was a familiar figure in the woods, despite battling cancer that had significantly impacted his mobility. Around 2 p.m., Bob's wife, the last person to see him, observed him as he walked into the woods about 100 yards to the west of her position. He walked with purpose, his head lowered, seemingly focused on tracking a deer as he moved southward across the swath. After he disappeared from her sight, she remained in her spot, patiently waiting for his return. Approximately twenty minutes later, a single gunshot echoed through the woods, heard by several family members who were also hunting nearby. This sound sparked a mix of anticipation and concern, as they all believed Bob had successfully taken a deer. As time passed and Bob did not return, his wife grew increasingly anxious. She waited for several minutes, but the silence that followed the gunshot was unsettling. Soon after, family members arrived to help retrieve what they assumed would be Bob's prize. They ventured into the woods toward the last place he was seen and the direction of the shot, calling out for him. Hours went by with no response, and despite their efforts to locate him, there was no sign of Bob, leaving the family in a state of worry and confusion as they searched for any trace of him in the vast wildernessTranscript --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/locatingthelost/support
