Do you know someone who has a victim mindset that everyone is out against them and everything is completely out of their control? Do you find yourself drained while they stay in a perpetual state of discontentment? To better explore what a victim mindset is, in this video, we'll discuss some of the signs someone is always playing the victim. Disclaimer: It is important to use your best judgment if someone is truly in a victim mindset. There are people who have hardships that are valid, even if hard to understand. This article is not to discredit or devalue the experience of others, but rather to shed light on an issue that may be used to manipulate and harm other people. Playing the victim is also one of the most common self-sabotaging behavior. If you recognize these signs in yourself and want to be aware of more ways you're self-sabotaging, check out our video on the habits of a self-destructive person: https://youtu.be/3u-ImON16rs Writer: Sidney Thompson Script Editor: Isadora Ho Script Manager: Kelly Soong VO: Amanda Silvera Animator: Sam Rain YouTube Manager: Cindy Cheong Brightside. Ever wondered how the roar of an engine and the sleek curves of a car's design can tell a story of empowerment and innovation? Nancy Nichols, the mind behind "Women Behind the Wheel," joins us to shed light on the profound ways cars have fueled the journey towards modern womanhood. As Nancy takes us on a ride through history, we explore the roads paved by suffragists, celebrate Bertha Benz's audacious road trip, and address the gender roadblocks that once stalled women from purchasing cars without a male co-signer. Nancy even shares a personal anecdote of her own street racing days, much to my amazement and delight.Driving isn't just a physical act; it's an emotional experience, a theme we explore in conversations about the surprising intimacy found within the confines of a car's interior. We unpack the reasons behind the heart-to-hearts that happen in the driver's seat, the design nuances that make a car feel like a protective cocoon, and the impact women have had on the automotive design landscape. From the "Damsels of Design" at GM to the feminine flourishes that now grace our dashboards and door panels, we celebrate the female touch that has steered the automotive world in new directions.Revving up the excitement, we shift gears to the adventurous side of the auto industry. We spotlight the legacy of ProAm Auto Accessories and their global influence, applaud the charitable endeavors of God's Garage, and tease the adrenaline rush of learning stunt driving with professionals like Bobby Ore. As the episode comes to a close, we extend an open invitation to our listeners to join us live for more high-octane discussions, where we continue to share our passion for all things automotive. Fasten your seatbelts—it's going to be an exhilarating ride!---- ----- Want more In Wheel Time Car Talk any time?  “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”  (Psalm 34:18)As we hunger for more of the Lord in our life and grow spiritually, sometimes long-term friendships may become unhealthy, unholy, and not what they first were.  Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal if you are presently in any toxic relationships. Nancy Nichols, one of our dear CMM Ordained Ministers, shares- "The Bible is clear - there is a time to sever unhealthy relationships.  And we do so when someone repeatedly demonstrates abusive, manipulative, selfish and ungodly behaviors.  (Just because someone disagrees with us, confronts us, or corrects us is not reason enough to end a relationship.) But Scripture is also clear that there is a proper way to do this.  Only after you have made every attempt to address and reconcile the issue (according to Matthew 18); once you have sought Godly counsel and accountability in the matter; and when the other person has made it clear that they are not willing to change their troubling behavior; is it time to release them from your life.  When you do, you may find yourself wrestling with the knowledge that they were not who they said they were, that they were not who you had hoped they would be, prayed they might be, and knew they could be.  You will mourn the fact that they chose their unhealthy and ungodly behaviors over a relationship with you. Once you accept these facts, and release the person to the Lord, then the healing begins and you will experience a new level of peace and freedom in your life.  God sees and knows what is best for us! Jason and Matthew interview Dr. Murray Blackmore (Marquette University) and Nancy Nichols (person with lived experience of SCI) about Nancy's addition to the Blackmore Lab as a consultant. We talk about the relationship that developed, the impact it's had on the Blackmore Lab, and the impact relationships like this could have on the wider research landscape. If you are a scientist or a member of the SCI community who is interested in exploring this kind of relationship, please contact us or fill out our interest form (https://forms.gle/agrP14RSUsDVxBgu8). We are facilitating and supporting these relationships in order to ensure they are effective and productive. --- Guest Bios Murray Blackmore, PhD, received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, and his graduate degree in neuroscience from the University of Minnesota. During his postdoctoral training at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, Dr. Blackmore studied axon regeneration and adopted High Content Screening methods to identify new gene targets to promote neural repair. Later, as a Research Assistant Professor at the Miami Project, Dr. Blackmore used a gene therapy approach to test these new gene targets for the ability to promote axon regeneration in the injured spinal cord. Dr. Blackmore is continuing this line of research at Marquette University, using viral delivery of genes to injured neurons in rodent models of spinal injury in order to foster repair. Nancy Nicholas, MBA, received her Bachelor's of Science in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. She later earned a Master's in Business Administration from Seattle University. Nancy is a retired executive from the Boeing company, where she held a variety of positions starting in manufacturing research and development and culminating in program management. She sustained a spinal cord injury while mountain biking with her family in 2013. Nancy serves as the SCI Community Liaison to the Blackmore lab at Marquette University, where she shares her lived experience and represents the SCI community in the research process. The worship team begins a miniseries discussing the opportunities and challenges of returning to in-person worship. In this first episode, Director of Preaching Ministries, Dr. Derek Weber, has a conversation with the Rev. Nancy Nichols, Senior Pastor of First UMC Michigan City, Indiana, and the Rev. Stephen Handy of McKendree UMC in Nashville, Tennessee, about navigating the pandemic and online worship and the move to in-person worship. With an abundance of caution, both pastors are moving their congregations to a hybrid experience of online and in-person worship and discipleship that promised to become the post-pandemic church. If you have experiences and wisdom to share on how your congregation is making the move, contact us and share your story. You could be our next guest on Worship Matters! “Worship Matters” is a podcast from the worship team of Discipleship Ministries, designed to deal with the intricacies of planning worship each week. Hosted by Dr. Cynthia Wilson, Executive Director of Worship Ministries and the Director of Liturgical Ministries; Dr. Diana Sanchez-Bushong, Director of Music Ministries; and Dr. Derek Weber, Director of Preaching Ministries, this podcast explores how to plan worship using the common lectionary while creating worship experiences and series that are engaging, relevant, and adaptable for any church setting.
