The alarming disparity between US and Canadian traffic fatality rates takes center stage in our latest podcast. While road deaths have surged 33% in America over a decade, our northern neighbors have managed to reduce theirs – but why? We dive deep into the fascinating research from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety that reveals how different enforcement approaches and policies might explain this life-or-death difference. Our discussion explores how pedestrian and cyclist deaths jumped 64% in the US while falling 17% in Canada, and how truck-related fatalities show an even more dramatic contrast. Could it be that American resistance to automated enforcement, less strict drunk driving penalties, and dwindling traffic patrol visibility are costing thousands of lives? The conversation turns personal as we reflect on rarely seeing police running radar or motorcycle officers enforcing traffic laws in Houston compared to previous decades. This week's "Guess the Sold Car Price" game delivers some jaw-dropping revelations about classic car values. From a pristine 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air fetching over $44,000 to a 1936 Buick 40 selling for under $9,000, our hosts test their market knowledge with surprising results. We also cover Ford's $36 million quarterly loss driven by recall costs, the impressive story of a woman who legally claimed a dealership's name after they repossessed her car, and a packed calendar of upcoming car shows across Texas. The automotive industry is undergoing a profound transformation that's reshaping how we think about careers in vehicle repair and maintenance. Gone are the days when becoming a mechanic simply meant learning from your dad in the garage. Today's automotive technicians need sophisticated computer skills alongside traditional mechanical aptitude.Hugh Mann from Houston Community College joins us to discuss the evolving landscape of automotive education and the lucrative career paths available to those with proper training. "You almost feel like you gotta have an IT degree to work on them sometimes," Hugh notes when discussing modern vehicles with their complex sensors and driver-assist features. Dealerships are competing fiercely for qualified technicians, driving up wages and improving working conditions - including the increasingly common air-conditioned repair shops replacing the sweltering environments of years past. One particularly fascinating insight reveals how HCC structures their educational programs to accommodate different career aspirations. Students can complete certificates in as little as two semesters or pursue associate degrees that open doors to management positions later in their careers. The diesel and heavy equipment specialties often command higher salaries than traditional automotive paths, with different pay structures that appeal to those seeking more predictable income.Beyond the educational discussion, we explore creative ways car enthusiasts are repurposing automotive components. Jeff shares fascinating examples of BBQ grills crafted from engine blocks, rims, and even entire vintage cars - each telling a story about automotive passion extending beyond the road. Marrs rounds out our journey with unique driving destinations around San Antonio, from the spectacular emergence of 15 million bats at Bracken Cave to the quirky Toilet Seat Art Museum created by a former plumber. Whether you're considering a career change, looking to understand the future of automotive repair, or simply love unique car culture stories, this episode offers valuable insights into how vehicles continue to shape our lives in unexpected waysBe sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Ted Ryan, Ford's Heritage Brand Manager, joins us from a golf course to share exciting news about the 60th anniversary of the Ford Bronco. The special commemorative model features stunning Wimbledon white paint with red accents, including the Bronco name spelled out in red on the hood and "1966" embedded in the hubcaps. The original Bronco was unveiled on August 11, 1965, when Ford handed reporters cowboy hats and scarves, telling them "let's go rodeo" before introducing what would become an American icon.Ryan shares delightful stories about the Bronco's enduring appeal - from his 84-year-old father who's on his third new Bronco to being stopped by a Mississippi police officer who wanted to see the vehicle so badly that Ryan handed him the keys for a test drive. The officer's immediate reaction? "I'm buying one of these things." Ford has already sold over a million combined Bronco and Bronco Sport models in just four years since their revival. We also explore fascinating Bronco trivia, including how Pope John Paul II used customized white Broncos as "Popemobiles" during his New York visit, with a famous photograph showing him surrounded by admirers at Yankee Stadium. Ryan debunks the myth that O.J. Simpson's infamous white Bronco chase killed the model's popularity, noting it was already being phased out before that event. The episode rounds out with Jeff's Racing Calendar highlighting upcoming motorsport events, Mars's automotive history segment covering everything from the first US steam-powered carriage to NASA's founding and its impact on automotive technology, and current industry news including tariff changes, Tesla's planned chauffeur service, and record-high average car payments. Whether you're a Ford enthusiast or simply appreciate automotive heritage, this episode offers a rich exploration of how iconic vehicles shape our cultural landscape.Have you checked out the 60th anniversary Bronco on Ford's website yet? What happens when a prophet tells you to become an auctioneer? For Yvette Vanderbrink, it launched a 25-year career specializing in automotive barn finds and collections. Her extraordinary journey from hospital worker to renowned auctioneer began when a minister at her church mysteriously knew about auction school application papers she'd hidden in her kitchen cupboard.Yvette shares the struggles and triumphs of breaking into the male-dominated auction world, including how she handled sexist comments and established her reputation through innovative marketing. When one man told her to "make a sandwich and let the boys do it," she simply took his bidding number away. Her pioneering use of early internet technology helped attract national bidders when such practices were revolutionary. The conversation reveals fascinating insights into the world of automotive collections and auctions, including why Montana ranchers maintain their own fire trucks (the nearest fire station is often over an hour away), and the challenges of conducting a 604-vehicle auction across remote locations with no cell service or electricity. Yvette's passion for connecting collectors with rare finds shines through as she discusses upcoming auctions and her own recent acquisition—a cherished 1963 Bel Air she finally convinced her father to part with.Don Armstrong also shares his surprisingly positive experience with the 2025 Kia Niro hybrid, achieving 43.7 mpg during real-world testing. With attractive styling, user-friendly controls, and a competitive starting price of $26,990, the Niro proves that practical, fuel-efficient vehicles can still deliver an enjoyable driving experience for city dwellers. The episode wraps with Jeff's "Motor Minute" highlighting an unusual legal case involving two 1962 Corvettes with identical VIN numbers—a cautionary tale for classic car collectors.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Ever wondered what it would be like to cross America primarily on dirt roads? Andy and Mercedes Lilienthal let us ride shotgun on their extraordinary Transamerica Trail adventure – a jaw-dropping 7,100-mile journey with over 3,100 miles on unpaved terrain, all completed in just 29 days. The couple's modified 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness proved remarkably capable, conquering elevations approaching 13,000 feet in Colorado and withstanding temperatures ranging from freezing to a sweltering 111°F in Moab. Their detailed walkthrough of the vehicle's modifications reveals the thoughtful preparation behind such an ambitious journey – from the Thule rooftop tent and ARB awning to the critical Primitive Racing skid plates that protected vital components on rough terrain. What makes their story particularly compelling isn't just the vehicle specs or challenging routes – it's how this journey provided them a completely different perspective on America. Despite both having previously visited all 50 states, experiencing the country from rural backroads allowed them to discover unfamiliar wildlife, connect with locals in remote areas, and witness aspects of American life rarely seen from interstate highways. Perhaps most fittingly, they completed this epic adventure on their 21st wedding anniversary, proving their relationship is as durable as their remarkably capable Subaru. We also feature Don Armstrong's comprehensive review of the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV, a sleek electric SUV with limousine-like comfort and impressive 615 horsepower performance. Don highlights its sharp exterior design, user-friendly 17-inch infotainment system, and competitive positioning in the premium electric SUV market at $44,600 for base models with the high-performance SS trim testing at $64,180.Subscribe to In Wheel Time for more fascinating automotive adventures, detailed vehicle reviews, and conversations with passionate car enthusiasts who push the boundaries of what's possible on four wheels.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. An automotive time capsule awaits discovery in the rolling hills of Montana where approximately 600 vehicles lie scattered across 100 acres of countryside. This extraordinary barn find collection, headed to auction through Vanderbrink Auctions, features everything from 1920s classics and vintage fire trucks to Plymouths, Rivieras, and even a rare 1961 bubble top with intact glass. The remote location adds to the mystique – so far from civilization there's no cell service, creating a treasure hunter's paradise where viewing requires dedication and extraction demands ingenuity. Our hosts dive deep into what makes this auction special, exploring the logistics of purchasing vehicles from such a remote location and imagining creative uses for these automotive relics. The conversation turns playful as they contemplate converting a 1923 American LaFrance fire truck into a mobile barbecue pit, complete with sauce-dispensing hoses – a quintessential example of American automotive enthusiasm and creativity. The episode transitions to Jeff's Car Culture segment featuring extraordinary high-mileage vehicles that have made their way into the Guinness World Records. From a 1964 Porsche 356C with one million miles to the ultimate distance champion – a 1966 Volvo P1800 owned by Irv Gordon that achieved an astonishing 3.25 million miles before his passing. These remarkable stories of automotive longevity reveal not just mechanical resilience, but deep bonds between owners and their beloved vehicles.Marrs rounds out the show with a surprising array of local Houston-area driving destinations, including the Art Deco 1940 Air Terminal Museum, an underwater shark tunnel train ride, and even a zipline adventure park hiding in plain sight. These hidden gems remind listeners that automotive adventures don't always require long-distance travel, sometimes the most unexpected experiences are right in our backyard, waiting to be discovered with the same enthusiasm as a field of forgotten classics in Montana.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Looking for straight talk about electric vehicles? Our review of the 2025 Volvo EX40 Twin Motor Ultra pulls no punches, exposing both impressive features and frustrating flaws in this Belgian-built EV. With 402 horsepower and advanced pixel headlight technology, the vehicle offers plenty of power and premium features—but requires navigating through four separate touchscreen interactions just to turn it off.The real-world economics of EV ownership take center stage as we reveal how driving 270 miles required two charging sessions costing $33.59, while the same money would fuel a conventional truck for 232 miles without the charging delays. At an MSRP of $62,045 for our test model, the EX40 faces stiff competition from Mercedes, Audi, and Genesis alternatives.Auto appraiser Michael Wooding joins us to discuss the current state of the classic car market, revealing how economic uncertainty has created a buyer's paradise where normally $25,000 vehicles are selling for just $8,000. Wooding shares valuable insights about auto appraisals for insurance purposes, diminished value claims, and project cars in various stages of restoration. We round out the episode with upcoming car events across Texas and breaking automotive news, including Volvo's decision to trim its US product offerings, the elimination of fuel efficiency penalties for automakers, and Rivian's impressive new electric pickups and SUVs packing over 1,000 horsepower.Whether you're contemplating an electric vehicle purchase, curious about the value of your classic car in today's market, or simply want to stay informed about the rapidly evolving automotive landscape, this episode delivers the unfiltered, expert analysis you need to navigate your automotive decisions.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Automotive enthusiasts, buckle up for a three-course journey through the cutting edge of electric vehicles, the rarified world of elite car collections, and the rugged charm of an off-road icon reborn. We start by examining Volvo's latest electric offering—the 2025 EX40 Twin Motor Ultra AWD. Built in Belgium on the framework of last year's XC40, this all-electric crossover brings 402 horsepower and advanced pixel headlight technology to the premium EV segment. However, not everything about modern technology improves the driving experience. The EX40's touchscreen-centric control system requires four separate taps just to power down the vehicle—an unnecessarily complex solution to a problem that never existed. Despite these interface frustrations, the EX40 delivers competitive performance against rivals from Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Genesis, though at a premium price point starting at $62,045 for the Ultra trim.We then explore automotive passion at its most extreme with a tour of the world's most impressive car collections. From Dmitry Lomakov's Soviet-era treasures in Moscow to Ken Lingenfelter's performance-focused American muscle cars, these collections represent deep dedication to automotive preservation. The Sheikh of Abu Dhabi specializes in off-road vehicles including a massive Mercedes monster truck, while the Sultan of Brunei reigns supreme with approximately 7,000 vehicles valued at $5 billion—including 600 Rolls-Royces, 450 Ferraris, and numerous one-off custom creations that exist nowhere else. Finally, we take the wheel of the 2024 Land Rover Defender, Slovakia's boxy tribute to off-road capability. With its distinctive silhouette and doors that "shut like an old Norge refrigerator," the Defender combines rugged charm with modern luxuries. The mild-hybrid powertrain delivers 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, propelling this 5,000-pound fortress with surprising efficiency. While the $81,923 as-tested price positions it against premium competitors like the Lexus GX and Jeep Wagoneer, current import tariffs present challenges for Land Rover's supply chain.Whether you're fascinated by electric innovation, dream car collections, or capable off-roaders, join us for these automotive explorations that showcase the breadth and depth of today's automotive landscape. Automotive passion knows no borders in this fascinating exploration of European racing heritage and the world's most extraordinary car collections. We're joined by Lincoln Small, author of "Abarth Radborn Racing and Me," who transports us to the vibrant racing scene of 1960s Britain and Italy. Lincoln shares how he discovered Abarth's modified Fiats "like an epidemic" across Italy before bringing the underdog brand to compete against Britain's beloved Mini Coopers. His firsthand account reveals how these tiny, lightweight Italian machines with minimal horsepower managed to "humiliate lots of very large engine cars" through exceptional handling and engineering. The conversation shifts to the business side of racing as Lincoln explains how he established Radborn Racing and created a network of dealerships offering Abarth parts and conversion services throughout the UK. Though our international connection was unfortunately cut short, the interview provides a rare glimpse into a fascinating chapter of European motoring history.Jeff takes us on a journey through the world's most impressive automotive collections, from Dmitry Lomakov's Soviet-era military vehicles in Moscow to Ken Lingenfelter's performance-driven treasures in Michigan. We discover Gary Duncan's Japanese car obsession featuring 100 Nissan Fiegos, the "Rainbow Sheikh's" $2.3 billion off-road vehicle museum in Abu Dhabi, and the mind-boggling collection of the Sultan of Brunei – 7,000 vehicles worth approximately $5 billion, including 600 Rolls-Royces and 450 Ferraris.Whether you're fascinated by racing history, rare automobiles, or just wondering what someone does with 7,000 cars, this episode satisfies your automotive curiosity. The ripple effects of Trump's tariffs are sending shockwaves through luxury car dealerships across America, upending a market that remained resilient even during the pandemic and chip shortages. When customers start canceling orders for $750,000 Lamborghinis rather than pay an additional $75,000 in tariffs, something significant is happening. What makes this story particularly compelling is the human element behind the headline numbers. While wealthy buyers can simply walk away from these purchases, dealership employees - from mechanics to salespeople - face the real consequences. One luxury dealer reports earnings down 70-90% compared to previous years, forcing painful business decisions that affect ordinary working people. The tariff situation has evolved rapidly. European vehicle duties jumped from 2.5% to 25% in April, with British automakers receiving some relief at 10% starting June 30th. The European Union now faces a potential 30% tariff beginning August 1st if new trade agreements aren't reached. This uncertainty has created havoc in a marketplace where exclusivity and predictability typically reign supreme.Meanwhile, Ford continues experiencing quality control challenges, leading the auto industry with 89 recalls issued so far in 2025. Their latest action affects nearly 700,000 crossovers with fuel leak issues at a cost of approximately $570 million - a reminder that even domestic manufacturers face significant challenges in today's complex automotive landscape. For enthusiasts seeking alternatives to both new car headaches and ultra-luxury prices, the classic car market offers intriguing options. Iconic 1960s vehicles like Corvettes, Buick Electras, and Pontiac Grand Prix models are selling for reasonable prices between $15,000-$25,000, providing automotive joy without the financial and political complications of today's new car market.Want to join the conversation? Buckle up for a journey into the heart of authentic car culture with our exploration of Rats on the Platte, a rebellious celebration of automotive passion that thrives far from the polished showcases of mainstream car events. Speaking with organizers Jake Donahoe and Paula Sanada, we discover what makes this annual gathering in Mitchell, Nebraska a must-visit for true gearheads and automotive misfits. This isn't your typical car show – it's a raw, community-driven event where creativity and character trump cleanliness and conformity. As Paula colorfully explains, "This isn't some shiny Corvette lawn chair circle where judged means who brought the cleanest wax rag." Instead, Rats on the Platte celebrates builders, dreamers, wrenchers, and fabricators who create machines worth noticing without seeking validation. The two-day event features dirt track racing in a rodeo arena, a concrete burnout pad with bleachers, swap meets, and the intriguing "Mistresses of Mayhem" – pinup models who add vintage flair to the proceedings. What makes this gathering special is the "drive what you build" philosophy, with many participants traveling cross-country in their custom creations rather than trailering them. With affordable registration ($35 pre-show) and on-site camping available, the event creates an immersive experience for automotive enthusiasts of all stripes.Shifting gears, we take you behind the wheel of the 2024 Land Rover Defender, a boxy, distinctive SUV that blends off-road capability with modern luxury. Starting at $56,400 and climbing well into six figures for premium trims, the Defender delivers impressive performance with its available inline-six engine producing 395 horsepower. It feels substantial and solid – "the doors shut like an old Norge refrigerator" – combining British design sensibilities with serious off-road credentials.Whether you're drawn to the rebellious spirit of grassroots car culture or the refined capability of modern adventure vehicles, this episode captures the diversity and passion that drives automotive enthusiasm. Rudy Samsel has created something special with Guys with Rides - a dealer-free marketplace where classic car enthusiasts can connect without the high fees and uneven playing field that plague traditional auction sites. As he explains to the In Wheel Time crew, his platform was born from frustration with how private sellers are treated at established auctions. What makes this concept compelling is its focus on creating meaningful connections between sellers who often have emotional attachments to their vehicles and buyers who will truly appreciate them. Samsel shares touching stories about helping families find proper homes for inherited classics, including daughters selling their late father's cherished '62 Thunderbird and a rare 1976 Cadillac pickup that found its way to Switzerland through his site. The pricing structure is revolutionary compared to industry standards - just $1 to list and $49 more if sold, with buyer fees capped at 1% of purchase price (maximum $500). This approach particularly benefits sellers of mid-range classics who are disproportionately hurt by percentage-based fees elsewhere. Sellers can choose between traditional auctions with minimum starting bids or fixed-price listings with the option for buyers to make offers.Though he calls himself "the David in an industry of Goliaths" with just a handful of listings at any time (compared to hundreds on larger platforms), this allows for a truly personalized approach. Samsel personally helps sellers showcase their vehicles, sometimes traveling to film restoration work for his YouTube channel. He even provides no-cost assistance to buyers seeking specific vehicles, creating a concierge-like experience missing from larger marketplaces.Ready to experience a more personal way to buy or sell a classic car? Our guide Mary Agruza takes us on a captivating journey through time, revealing surprising connections between America's pioneering past and its automotive future. The museum houses a remarkable Studebaker collection that tells an unexpected story – before becoming car manufacturers, Studebaker built the Conestoga wagons that carried settlers westward during America's expansion. Even Abraham Lincoln likely knew about Studebakers! We witness the brand's evolution from wagon maker to innovative automaker, featuring everything from the curved-glass 1927 President Lincoln to the distinctive "coming and going" 1948 Starliner Coupe.Particularly fascinating is how Studebaker navigated financial challenges while competing with larger manufacturers. When automotive fins became popular in the 1950s, they cleverly bolted fiberglass fins onto existing models rather than redesigning entire vehicles. The collection showcases the Golden Hawk – considered by many to be America's first muscle car – and the beautiful Avanti that unfortunately came too late to save the struggling company.Beyond just displaying vehicles, the Savoy Museum features a theater with the Southeast's largest curved screen and hosts rotating exhibits. Coming soon are showcases featuring James Brown's car collection and vehicles connected to music history. We also take the 2025 Chrysler Pacifica for a spin, discovering how modern minivans have evolved into sophisticated family vehicles with innovative features like stow-and-go seating. Despite being Chrysler's only current model, the Pacifica demonstrates impressive versatility with luxury appointments typically found in higher-end vehicles.Whether you're a dedicated car enthusiast or simply appreciate the stories behind American innovation, this episode offers a window into our automotive heritage and the museums preserving it. Car buying should be exciting, not a minefield of potential fraud and deception. Yet two alarming lawsuits from Florida reveal the dark side of automotive retail, where unsuspecting customers discovered their "new" vehicles had hidden histories. One buyer found his pristine Land Cruiser had nearly 5,000 miles on the odometer despite being sold as factory-fresh, while another learned her Jeep had previously been titled to a leasing company—information deliberately concealed during the sale. These cautionary tales highlight why thoroughly examining documentation before signing is crucial. As one host suggests, having an attorney review purchase papers might seem excessive, but could save thousands in the long run. While the vast majority of dealerships operate honestly, these instances remind us to verify everything independently, especially when significant investments are involved.Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company has established an unfortunate industry record with 89 recalls issued so far this year—more than the next five manufacturers combined. Their latest recall affects 850,000 vehicles with potential fuel pump failures that could cause dangerous engine stalling. Ford claims to be taking a "more proactive approach" to safety issues, but the sheer volume raises questions about underlying quality control. The automotive financing landscape continues to shift toward concerning territory. A record 19% of new vehicle buyers now commit to monthly payments exceeding $1,000, while 22% have stretched loan terms to 84 months or longer. These extended financing arrangements might make monthly payments more manageable but dramatically increase total ownership costs and potential negative equity situations.Electric vehicle adoption faces headwinds as well, with new EV registrations dropping 5.9% in May—the second consecutive monthly decline despite attractive incentives. With the $7,500 federal tax credit set to expire September 30th, potential buyers should consider acting soon if an electric vehicle is in their future plans.Whether you're shopping for your next vehicle or maintaining your current one, staying informed about these industrBe sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Step into the fascinating world of automotive treasures as we journey through the Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, Georgia. Museum representative Mary Agrusa takes us on a captivating tour through their remarkable barn finds collection, where each vehicle tells an extraordinary story of discovery and preservation. From a GT350 Mustang with deliberately preserved deteriorating paint to the one-of-a-kind 1949 Packard Monte Carlo convertible built by Henney, these automotive time capsules reveal the passionate dedication of collectors and restorers. The museum's fiberglass car collection offers another dimension of automotive history, showcasing rare and one-off vehicles that represent the DIY spirit of enthusiasts who once ordered kit cars from the back pages of automotive magazines. The Novetta stands as a testament to dedication, taking its owner 20 years to complete by piecing together parts from various sources, including Mini Cooper hinges and other creative solutions. We dive into automotive styling history with Jeff's Car Culture segment on vinyl roofs – that distinctive styling trend from the 1960s through the early 1990s that gave fixed-roof cars a convertible-like appearance. While once the height of automotive fashion adorning everything from muscle cars to Corvettes, vinyl tops are now often considered problematic during restorations, trapping moisture and accelerating rust underneath their fashionable exterior.Bringing us to the present day, our comprehensive review of the 2025 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate reveals why this luxury SUV commands attention. With its 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, distinctive baseball stitching interior, and comprehensive technology package including second-row entertainment screens, this $107,285 top-tier model represents the sweet spot between the Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade.Discover more automotive insights and adventures by subscribing to our podcast or joining us for our live show every Saturday morning from 8-11am central. Special In Wheel Time Replay - What happens when childhood dreams of muscle cars finally come true? Danon Hollinger joins us at the Lone Star Street Rod Association's 50th anniversary celebration to share her journey from Hot Rod magazine fan to proud owner of a gleaming white 1978 Pontiac Trans Am.Unlike most girls growing up, Danon decorated her headboard with car magazine centerfolds instead of pop stars. Her fascinating story takes us from her early fascination with a high school crush's '69 Camaro to discovering something unexpected—a Trans Am with a poignant backstory. The previous owner had lovingly restored it for his son who, after a tragic accident, could never drive it. Now this beautiful machine has found new life with an owner who truly appreciates its power and presence. The conversation takes a few detours through Danon's unique name (from an old Western film), her career as a teacher now enjoying retirement, and the modifications they've made to transform their Trans Am from drag racer to comfortable cruiser. Their upgrade to a Tremec five-speed transmission highlights the perfect balance they've struck between preserving vintage character and enhancing drivability. We also explore the joy of car club culture as Danon shares adventures with her Houston-based Great Classics club—from "margarita meetings" to cross-country trips to shows in Reno and along the Mississippi coast. Her enthusiasm for decorating the Trans Am for Christmas parades and local charity events showcases how classic cars become more than possessions—they're vehicles for building community and creating lasting memories.Later, Jeff presents his Car Culture segment featuring the best US cities for vintage car shows, from Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise to the elegance of Pebble Beach. Tune in for a heartwarming reminder that automotive passion knows no boundaries—and sometimes the perfect car finds you when you least expect it.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! Special In Wheel Time Replay - Courtney Enders brings her infectious energy and deep motorsports knowledge to this episode as she discusses her groundbreaking new role with NHRA TV. Far from leaving her position at Flow Racing, she explains how she'll balance multiple responsibilities while bringing fresh perspectives to drag racing broadcasting after years of "knocking on their door."The conversation takes listeners behind the scenes of Elite Motorsports' challenging 2023 season, where crew chief Mark Ingersoll's double lung transplant significantly impacted the team's performance. Despite this setback, Erica Enders still finished fourth in the championship standings—an achievement most racers would celebrate, but one that left the six-time champion "wildly disappointed" and hungrier than ever for 2024.Courtney provides clarity on swirling rumors about Elite Motorsports entering Top Fuel, describing how Richard Freeman's premature announcement created "a storm of nonsense." She details the real obstacles they face, including NHRA rules preventing competitors from racing in multiple professional categories simultaneously. The team has even conducted timing tests to demonstrate how Erica could potentially compete in both Pro Stock and Top Fuel with proper scheduling. The episode also features Don Armstrong's comprehensive review of the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV, highlighting its impressive 484-mile range capability, multi-function mid-gate that extends bed space to nearly 11 feet, and thoughtful interior design. His honest assessment addresses both strengths and ongoing challenges with charging infrastructure.Whether you're a dedicated drag racing fan or simply curious about automotive innovations, this episode delivers insider perspectives on motorsports media evolution alongside practical insights about the electric vehicle landscape. Special In Wheel Time Replay - Scott Ingram slides into the passenger seat with us, bringing along his showstopping orange 1932 Ford coupe and a treasure trove of hot rodding stories spanning nearly six decades. As one of the seven original founders of the Lone Star Street Rod Association, Scott represents the authentic spirit of hot rod culture—someone who believes these machines are meant to be driven hard and enjoyed thoroughly. The striking orange '32 Ford sitting beside us isn't just for show. Scott has racked up an astonishing 350,000 miles on this beauty over 57 years of ownership, taking it deer hunting, towing other vehicles, and embarking on cross-country adventures that have touched both American borders and ventured into Canada. This isn't a garage queen; it's a living piece of automotive history that's been loved through use rather than preservation. What truly sets Scott apart is his hands-on approach to hot rodding. From hand-louvering the hood to applying the paint job that still shines after 45 years, he's done it all himself. The car has evolved from its original configuration, now sporting a genuine 427 Ford engine from the '60s.But Scott's mechanical prowess extends beyond his street rod. At 78 years young, he still races a front-engine dragster powered by a 317-inch nitro flathead producing a mind-boggling 554 horsepower. As he explains the intricacies of hand-seating valves and custom-building gaskets for this beast, his deep technical knowledge and passion for the craft become clear.Beyond the machines themselves, Scott reminds us that the heart of hot rod culture beats in its community. Having attended the first Street Rod Nationals in Peoria back in 1970 (arriving in a Model A with a Chrysler engine), he's witnessed the evolution of the scene firsthand and formed friendships that have lasted half a century. When asked if he'd ever sell his beloved '32, his answer says everything about his relationship with this machine: "I'll give it away before I sell it."Want to dive deeper into classic hot rod culture and hear more from passionate enthusiasts like Scott? A special In Wheel Time replay - Ever wandered through a museum where cars aren't just machines, but masterpieces? Mary Agrusa takes us inside the Savoy Auto Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, where vehicles are displayed with the reverence typically reserved for fine art. "We consider this really more an art museum dedicated to the automobile," Mary explains, and her passion for automotive history shines through as she guides us through exhibits that tell stories beyond horsepower and torque figures. Each vehicle comes with a reader board that doesn't just list specifications but delves into fascinating backstories—why a particular model succeeded or failed, its historical significance, or quirky facts about its design. Visitors can walk 360 degrees around most cars, appreciating them from every angle under specially designed lighting that showcases their sculptural qualities. From an untouched 1925 Model T about to celebrate its 100th birthday to the elegant lineup of Studebakers charting the company's evolution, the museum offers something for casual visitors and dedicated enthusiasts alike. The Savoy isn't just preserving automotive history; it's inspiring the next generation. After their 1959 Plymouth Savoy named "Beatrice" participated in the Great Race (before unfortunately dropping two cylinders in West Virginia's mountains), local schools were inspired to build their own race cars for future competitions. This hands-on approach to automotive education perfectly complements the museum's mission to make car culture accessible and engaging for everyone.Switching from classic to contemporary, Don Armstrong takes us behind the wheel of the 2025 Lincoln Nautilus, and his enthusiasm is immediate. Drag racing fans rejoice! The International Hot Rod Association is roaring back to life with a racer-friendly approach that challenges the status quo of professional drag racing. Division Director Doug Foley joins the In Wheel Time podcast to share how IHRA is reinventing itself after years in the shadows of larger sanctioning bodies. The biggest news? Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars are returning to IHRA competition after a 15-year absence, with full eight-car fields already committed to the upcoming season opener at National Trail Raceway in Ohio this July. Racing legends like Scott Palmer, Dale Creasy Jr., and Terry Haddock have signed on, drawn by IHRA's compelling format: $50,000 winner purses requiring just five runs to claim victory, compared to eight runs in other series."We're not trying to copy anybody else," Foley explains, detailing how IHRA has crafted its program specifically for racers who want competitive action without breaking the bank. While top teams in other series might spend three to four million dollars annually running 20+ events, IHRA's five-event national schedule allows teams to participate at less than half the cost. The organization has invested heavily in infrastructure, purchasing five racetracks including National Trail and Galot Motorsports Park, while developing industry-leading insurance coverage that protects competitors with $1 million liability policies. Beyond the nitro classes, IHRA features Pro Mod, Mountain Motor Pro Stock (with larger engines than traditional Pro Stock), and various alcohol categories. For fans of grassroots drag racing who remember IHRA's heyday, this revival represents a return to the organization's core values—providing thrilling competition without requiring corporate backing to participate. The season culminates at the World Finals in North Carolina this November, with live streaming planned for those who can't attend in person. What's your preferred style of drag racing? Catch all the nitro-burning action as IHRA brings accessibility back to professional drag racing.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Lieutenant Colonel Jay Hess spent five and a half years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam — but in this conversation, he shares what truly kept him alive: faith in God, the love of his family, and a quiet conviction that he still had a purpose. In this powerful episode, Jay recounts how he survived captivity, how he communicated without words, and what those years of silence taught him about forgiveness, identity, and freedom. His voice is steady. His wisdom is deep. And his legacy — undeniable. This is more than a war story. It's a masterclass in grace, endurance, and the human spirit.About Our GuestLieutenant Colonel Jay Hess is a retired U.S. Air Force pilot and Vietnam War veteran who spent over 5 years as a prisoner of war in the infamous Hỏa Lò Prison — known as the "Hanoi Hilton." Shot down over North Vietnam in 1967, Jay endured brutal conditions, isolation, and the daily fight to hold onto hope. But his story isn't just one of survival — it's one of faith, resilience, and identity. Since returning home, Jay has dedicated his life to sharing the lessons he learned in captivity: the power of prayer, the strength found in stillness, and the meaning of freedom. His humility and clarity make him not just a war hero, but a spiritual guide for those facing invisible battles of their own.CONNECT WITH JAY HESS*News Stories - https://www.historynet.com/my-war-jay-hess/https://kutv.com/news/local/utahs-jess-hess-survived-more-than-5-years-in-notorious-hanoi-hilton-in-vietnam LISTEN/WATCH/SUBSCRIBE TO THE “YOUR LIFE LEGACY PODCAST”*Apple Music - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-life-legacy-podcast/id1740167449 *Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/2Cd8XFP59Ar864GcaoEDxW *YouTube Podcasts - https://www.youtube.com/@thelifelegacypodcast *Amazon Music Podcasts - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/b1949e1f-a973-47da-b1e0-538945afa748/the-life-legacy-podcast *iHeartRadio Podcasts - https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-the-life-legacy-podcast-165910407 CONNECT WITH “THE LIFE LEGACY PODCAST”*LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jaxon-cummings-%F0%9F%92%AD%F0%9F%8E%A5-24b40a149/ *Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/lifelegacypodcast/ *TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@lifelegacypodcast *YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@thelifelegacypodcast *Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558217934317 *Threads - https://www.threads.net/@lifelegacypodcast *X - https://twitter.com/lifelegacypod *Website - https://your-life-legacy.com/ *Email for general messages - lifelegacypodcast@outlook.com *Collab with us - lifelegacypodcast@outlook.com*Sponsor Us - lifelegacypodcast@outlook.comWE LOVE MAIL AND CARE PACKAGES!: Email us for address: lifelegacypodcast@outlook.comPRODUCTION CREDITS:Recorded at Mindset Content Creation StudiosProduced by Tommy MooreBrought to you by Vodcasts by Tommy Moore Presents - https://www.instagram.com/vodcasts_by_tommymoore/FIND OTHER THINGS LIKE US (Our Friends, People we Support, Products You Should Buy)***Risen Pendant - https://risenshop.com/product/ DISCOUNT CODE: lifelegacyThis episode is brought to you by Your Life Legacy - https://your-life-legacy.com/ HASHTAGS#TheLifeLegacyPodcast #yourlifelegacy #jaxoncummings #tommymoorepresents #tommymoore #vodcastsbytommymoore #personaldocumentaries KEYWORDSYour Life Legacy Podcast, Podcast, Your Life Legacy, Jaxon Cummings, Tommy Moore, Tommy Moore Presents, Vodcast By Tommy Moore, Personal Documentaries, Genealogy,
Are electric vehicles at a crossroads? This question drives our enlightening conversation with renowned automotive expert Jack Nerad, who joins us from California to share his perspectives on the current state of EVs and the automotive industry at large.Range anxiety emerges as a genuine dealbreaker rather than a minor inconvenience. When Mike shares his frustrating experience with a Volvo EV that can't complete his 112-mile commute without an hour-long charging stop, the practical limitations of current electric technology become painfully clear. Jack points out that without tax incentives on the horizon, manufacturers face an uphill battle convincing mainstream consumers to embrace fully electric vehicles. The consensus? Plug-in hybrids might offer the most practical solution for today's drivers who want efficiency without sacrificing convenience. The conversation shifts to the endangered species that auto shows have become. Despite evidence that these exhibitions connect with enthusiastic consumers and aspirational buyers, luxury manufacturers increasingly withdraw their participation. Jack characterizes this retreat as shortsighted—"cutting off their nose despite their face"—noting that manufacturers miss valuable opportunities to build brand loyalty with future customers. While traditional formats struggle, innovative approaches like the Electrify Expo show promising alternatives with their interactive, festival-like atmospheres. We round out the episode with an engaging review of the 2025 Alfa Romeo Stelvio, a vehicle that embodies Italian design philosophy with its distinctive triangular grille and uniquely sporty character. Though its infotainment system proves frustratingly complex (requiring users to "become a little bit Italian" to understand it), the 280-horsepower turbocharged engine and sports car-like handling make this SUV stand out in a crowded market. The Verde Fangio green paint attracted numerous compliments despite its $2,200 premium.Curious about where the automotive world is heading? Driver assistance technologies are facing a major identity crisis according to a revealing new JD Power white paper. While automakers invest billions into developing these systems, consumers remain largely unimpressed and unwilling to pay premium prices for features they don't trust. This fascinating disconnect forms the centerpiece of our discussion, where we explore why only 24% of drivers feel these technologies make them better drivers. The conversation takes a practical turn as our hosts share their firsthand experiences with these systems. From automatic emergency braking that unexpectedly activates while backing out of driveways to start-stop technology that most immediately disable, we dive into the frustrations of modern automotive tech. There's a clear theme throughout: drivers still want to drive, not be driven. What makes this technological debate particularly significant is the massive financial stakes involved. Tesla charges $8,000 upfront for its "Full Self-Driving" package, Mercedes-Benz asks $2,500 for Drive Pilot, and GM anticipates $2 billion in annual revenue from Super Cruise within five years. But will consumers actually pay these prices when current experiences leave them underwhelmed?Between recalled vehicles with brake fluid leaks and our popular "Guess the Used Car Price" segment featuring classic cars like the '53 DeSoto Fire Dome and '65 Mustang convertible, we explore what truly matters to automotive enthusiasts. We wrap up with a nostalgic look at 1970s car poses and the best July 4th driving destinations across Texas. Middle East again (US seems to be helping ?) - Within 2% if ATH and then... - Oracle blows the roof off - UK economy shrinks - bigly ***A NEW Closest to the Pin! Middle East Again - Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Iran early Friday morning local time, targeting locations it said were related to Iran's nuclear program, sparking market fears of a wider conflict. - Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, chief of the Iranian Armed Forces and the country's most senior military official, was killed during the strikes, alongside the commander-in-chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, Iranian state media reported. - The Israeli airstrikes also targeted and killed two of Iran's leading nuclear scientists, Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, according to Iranian news outlets. - Odd timing? - Markets initially took it better than expected - until Iran stuck back Valuations - As of the most recent update on June 5, 2025, the forward P/E ratio of the S&P 500 is 21.70. This reflects a decline from 22.44 in the previous quarter and 25.20 one year ago, 10 -year average is about 19 PE Forward Chart Something we discussed on TDI - Presidential Cycles - The U.S. stock market tends to follow a four-year cycle aligned with presidential terms. British businesses have been confronted with an increase in national insurance contributions and rise in the minimum age from the start of April, while a temporary tax break on property purchases also came to an end in March. - ----The change in the Stamp Duty Land Tax (paid when buying property or land) in April meant there was a decrease of 63.5% in U.K. residential property transactions from the previous month, the ONS noted, with buyers rushing to complete purchases before the tax break ended. US Economy - U.S. consumer prices increased less than expected in...
