In this episode of Lab Rats to Unicorns, John Flavin sits down with Heather Turner, CEO of LB Pharmaceuticals, a late-stage clinical biotechnology company developing differentiated therapies for patients with serious psychiatric and neurological disorders. Heather's path into biotech was anything but traditional. Trained as an attorney, she began her career advising startup companies at Cooley before spending more than two decades helping build and scale life sciences companies through financings, strategic partnerships, and major transactions. Along the way, she developed a unique perspective on leadership, risk management, and company building—eventually transitioning from legal leadership roles into the CEO seat. The conversation explores Heather's journey from lawyer to biotech executive, the lessons learned leading Carmot Therapeutics through a $3.1 billion acquisition by Roche, and the challenges of raising capital in one of biotech's most difficult financing environments. She also shares how LB Pharmaceuticals successfully completed a public offering to advance its lead program, LB-102, a potential new treatment for schizophrenia, bipolar depression, and major depressive disorder. At its core, this episode is about leadership in uncertainty—how great companies are built through preparation, resilience, humility, and a relentless focus on patients. Heather offers valuable insights on scaling organizations, building high-performing teams, navigating risk, and creating opportunities for the next generation of biotech leaders.

First up, we start with the worrying news that people in the UK are sending thousands of unregulated substances that claim to support weight-loss and wellness to laboratories for testing, as experts say the underground market for injectable peptides has exploded. With the relative ease that people are able to get subscriptions, via online pharmacies, or other means, it seems like this worrying rise of unregulated substances being normalised isn't going anywhere for now. Next up, we look at the latest tech trend, as in 2026, the stress-lowering, sleep-boosting hack to know is activating your vagus nerve – not via meditation or yin yoga, but by outsourcing the task to an electrical Vagus Nerve Stimulation device. Put simply, the vagus nerve is the body's internal superhighway, sending messages between your brain and organs and facilitating the shift into ‘rest mode'. There are lots of products out there in the market, from chairs to headbands, so what do the team think? And in trending Adrienne looks at the rise of cosy gaming, which is a genre of video games and a cultural movement focused on relaxation, comfort, and low-stress play.A message from Sammi:I'm taking part in a fundraising challenge next month for CALM (suicide prevention), in memory of our friend Dan who passed away in 2019.6 of us (friends of over 30 years) are attempting to cross every vehicle chain ferry in the UK - in an electric car - in under 24 hours. It came from a line in Dan's eulogy about a conversation on the Cowes chain ferry. Felt like something he would have loved. The BBC are filming it and the Royal Navy are getting involved so it's turning into a big one.Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 and young people aged 15–39 in the UK, so it's a cause that really matters. If you're up for supporting, here's the link: https://www.chainferrychallenge.com/donate-to-calm-and-win(You can also guess our finishing time + win a piece of art)You can check out everything about the challenge here:https://www.chainferrychallenge.com/homeThank you

Check out the Companion Video for this podcast: https://youtu.be/px_yXi62N1k Are you eating keto or carnivore… but still feeling stressed, tired, disconnected, or overwhelmed? In today's episode of the 2KK Uncensored Podcast, Joe and Rachel go beyond food and into something deeper: ancestral living. Because here's the truth: you can eat ancestrally at the fork, but if your sleep, stress, movement, attention, identity, and environment are completely modern — your health will suffer. We talk all the time about eating meat, lowering carbs, and focusing on real food. But what if the missing piece isn't more protein… it's how you live? In this episode, we unpack: • Why eating carnivore isn't the same as living ancestrally • The hidden stress of 24-hour news cycles and constant global awareness • How modern convenience is quietly destroying resilience • Why multitasking is a myth (and how fragmented attention impacts your nervous system) • The importance of true rest vs. screen-time "recovery" • Why sleep environment matters more than you think • How outsourcing everything weakens competence and confidence • The lost art of hunting, gathering, and appreciating your food supply • Why children today are missing key developmental experiences • The danger of replacing real community with digital belonging • How social media conflict is reshaping relationships and families • Why discomfort, delayed gratification, and effort are essential for health We also share personal stories from farm life — processing animals, raising food, reconnecting to nature, turning off noise, and learning firsthand that health isn't just about macros. If 80% of health is nutrition, the other 20% is sleep, stress management, movement, identity, belonging, and environment. And that 20% may be the piece most people ignore. You don't have to go live in the woods or give up electricity to live more ancestrally. But you can: • Reduce digital noise • Prioritize face-to-face connection • Create a better sleep environment • Move more naturally • Rebuild resilience • Step away from constant stimulation • Reconnect to nature and real food This episode will challenge you to examine where modern life is quietly undermining your keto or carnivore results — and how to begin closing the gap. Send a textI stumbled upon Patrick Gabridge on the World Wide Web, and he was kind enough to come on to the Playwright's Spotlight after reaching out to him. If there was a playwright who has been in the spotlight who might have a pathway to success, it would be Patrick Gabridge. With a non-traditional approach to writing, Patrick focuses on site-specific plays that are staged in non-traditional stages. Before we delve into this, we speak about marketing and his networking group - Playwright Submission Binge - and how the market has dwindled and changed over the years and how it has affected non-equity theatre. We discuss his development of Plays in Places and its historical accuracy and use of creative license, how it's opened doors to success, the Secret Sauce, and pitching to non-traditional venues. We also breakdown approaching Youth Plays as an older playwright, writing competition plays, what constitutes high drama and whether or not there is a formula. We wrap things up with achieving exposition in a 10-minute play, experiencing poor productions of one's work, advice for finding/developing a writers group, and networking with playwrights. This is a fascinating conversation that should present any playwright with phenomenal opportunities. I'd love to how things transpire if anyone listening takes this path. Enjoy!Patrick Gabridge is a playwright whose work includes Blood on the Snow, Chore Monkeys, Lab Rats, Distant Neighbors, Fire on Earth, Flight, Constant State of Panic, Pieces of Whitey, Blinders, and Reading the Mind of God, which have been staged in theaters across the country. Many experiments have been conducted on unsuspecting human beings over the years, and America leads the way in frequency and creativity. Biological agents were tested on the general public in the United States 239 times in the 1950s and 1960s, and children were given syphilis in Alabama and Guatemala just to see what would happen. Social experiments also play a role in understanding how the American government manages its flock of sheep. The Stanford Prison Experiment and the Milgram Experiment showcase just how easy it is to use authority to pressure people into committing atrocities. With tiny vehicles, Froot Loop-fueled joyrides, and rats that could outmaneuver your average commuter, these critters proved that life's greatest lessons can come on four tiny wheels.
