Taking inspiration from artists such as Lorde, The Japanese House, London Grammar, and James Blake, Lunar June is a UK artist on the ascendant. Her own unique sound blends the reflective lyricism and story-telling of the folk music she grew up on, meshed with the shimmering synths and dance-fuelled production of the electronic, indie and pop music she came to love. With an array of collaborations with the likes of Kölsch and Franky Wah, and performances at All Points East under her belt, it is now the turn of Lunar June to crash–land on pop's Earth planet, with a clutch of new stellar tracks in her armoury. 2023 has already seen the release of her debut EP, which includes the sparkling, scintillating single ‘holding onto u', championed by Phil Taggart, who pegged Lunar as "one of his favourite new artists of the year," alongside ‘you/feeling', which has been supported right across the board, from Wonderland to NME, and on a radio tip, key support from none other than BBC Introducing's Melita Dennett and Radio 1's Gemma Bradley. June's latest release - angsty hyper-pop anthem, ‘heart scream summer' - has proven that she's not just a one-trip pony, and the artist is beginning to turn heads. With a thought-provoking and unique music video to go alongside it, it's apparent that there is so much more to come from Lunar June

Nathan and Phil have a great time at the expense of their mutual connection Mick. They show a flagrant disregard for any semblance of premise, despite Mick's insistence that the world has enough podcasts of just a couple of lads talking. They are rude to poor Mick, who does nothing but show them both love and support. Frankly, the very fact this podcast is seeing the light of day is an affront to Mick. This is Nathan by the way. Whilst studying at the University of Ulster, he won the BBC/Skillset Young Broadcaster of the Year award for a documentary he made on 'Women’s Representation in the Music Press.'Phil started at BBC Radio Ulster making the tea and it was not long until he was asked to present their Across The Line programme in 2010. Canadian indie-rockers Tokyo Police Clubhave released their first album in four years, 'TPC' viaDine Alone Records. The celebrated Canadian outfit has garnered support from a myriad of tastemaker publications such as Pitchfork, Billboard, Huffington Post, NPR, Noisey, Clash Music, Paste Magazine and Consequence of Soundas well as BBC Radio 1presenter Zane Lowe,BBC Radio 1's Phil Taggart and Alice Levine, BBC Radio 6's Steve Lamacq andShaun Keaveny and The Late Show with David Letterman. On top of this, the quartet has played hundreds of venues, including massively acclaimed festivals Glastonbury Festival, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bumbershoot, Reading and Leeds Festival, Roskilde Festival, Rock am Ring, and Bonnaroo. In 2012, the band joined indie legends Foster the Peopleon the North American portion of their album tour along with songstress Kimbra. Tokyo Police Club wrote their brand new album, 'TPC', in a beautiful old church in rural Ontario, staying together and working on the songs while bonding in the countryside. When the songs were done, the band went out to Los Angeles and recorded them up in the California sunshine with Rob Schnapf, who also produced Tokyo Police Club's 2010 LP 'Champ', as well as many other seminal music releases, including albums by Elliot Smith, The Vines, FIDLAR and Beck. Tokyo Police Club have come back with a renewed energy for 'TPC', pulsing with equal parts attitude and sensitivity. From anthemic numbers like 'DLTFWYH'and 'Hercules'to honest self-reflections in 'Simple Dude' and the poignant 'One Of These Days', this band is showcasing its maturity and undeniable skill like never before, presenting a mature album that is honest, raw and fun its core. With a renewed energy and a can-do attitude, Tokyo Police Club showcase the new skin they're in with 'TPC'. The brand new video release for 'Simple Dude'hits the nail on the head when it comes to the soul-searching nature of Tokyo Police Club's new album; created using film negatives shot by bassist and vocalist Dave Monks during the recording of the new album, lyrics and imagery were then scratched directly into the film negatives and then animated by talented videographer Anne Douris. The result is a simple yet powerful series of visuals tinged with nostalgia, centred on feelings of intimacy and closeness, which we all need and sometimes long for; "My hands, your hands, I've been feeling lonely. Your touch, my touch, I feel the rush. And I've been waiting for it!" The release of Tokyo Police Club's'TPC' album will mark an important moment for this group of musicians, as it almost never came to fruition. Tokyo Police Club drummer Greg Alsop explains, "The feeling that we were so close to breaking up gave us the freedom to enjoy each other more, to enjoy making music together ... If we're not doing it for the sake of being a successful band, but just trying to make an album we're happy with, it takes the pressure off. The expectation was just that we'd do something that would make us happy." In the midst of a near-disbanding, David Monksmanaged to convince the rest of the band that they should not go out without a fight, and not without taking the time to write new music and, importantly, to really enjoy the process. "I think there's a lot more optimism and a lot less confusion now," says Monks. "That's why we called the record 'TPC'. It was a whole process of looking at the band and deciding what it is. There's an excitement and optimism. Let's just let it exist."

Well Slackers. I hope your conjunctivitis has cleared up since the last time you were here. It’s looking pretty good! Welcome to all the new listeners. On this podcast we play class artists’ early demos and we get a good chin wag in along the way. This week’s guest is Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol. He’s legit seen it all in the world of music and has traversed the highs and lows of everything that comes with it, which places him in a very apt position for me to badger him with questions. The version of Run he plays on the podcast was dug out of one of the band's attics and hasn’t been heard before so should be special for the Snow Patrol fan boys and girls. Please give the podcast a little rating or a review if you enjoy it. This Friday (16th Nov 2018) the Slacker Live Music Night will be at Portrush at the Atlantic Sessions on Northern Ireland. I have curated an amazing lineup as has our guest this week Gary Lightbody. If you want tickets then you can grab them here! The second Slacker Podcast is here! Phil Taggart hosts Wolf Alice in the twisted fetish dungeon recording studio in Soho. Things begin with a really early and raw demo of 'You're A Germ' and then drift into the questions on everyone's lips. Which band used to keep 300K in a fridge, playing second fiddle to circus acts and Theo's love of fireworks. This podcast is for you all, specifically the artists and bands toiling with the complexities of the music industry. On the inaugural episode of the Slacker Podcast, Phil Taggart hosts the Manic Street Preachers. Kicking things off with a demo of their anthem, ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’, the conversation quickly uncovers stories from their Welsh beginnings, their early fashion sense and of course those early riots at shows. This podcast is for you all, specifically the artists and bands toiling with the complexities of the music industry.
