Mike Lynch used to run the chip design giant Autonomy before it was sold to HP for $12bn. HP then sued Lynch for fraudulently overstating the value of Autonomy and won in the British civil courts. His life story is fascinating from an Irish point of view because both his parents were born here and now there's a superb book about him. It's called ‘The Curious Case of Mike Lynch: the Improbable Life & Death of a Tech Billionaire'. And its author is Katie Prescott, the Technology Business editor with the Times of London.
Carolina Confidential is back, and Gerrell Wheeler is still heated after the Panthers' gut-punch 20–17 loss to the Saints on Sunday—complete with a season sweep by a New Orleans team playing spoiler. Gerrell breaks down how Carolina let a must-win slip away (penalties everywhere, the late hit that everyone's talking about, and missed chances long before that final drive), plus the frustrating reality of a true .500 team that looks playoff-ready one week and completely lost the next. Now the math is simple: the Panthers have made life harder, but the path is still there—beat the Buccaneers twice, handle business, and punch a ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2017.
Michael Iavarone's done what most horse people only dream about, he's won the Kentucky Derby. He's been in this game at the highest level, from Big Brown taking him to the presipice of racing to many G1 wins, but he didn't grow up in it. He came from a working-class family, started out getting crushed at the betting windows, and somehow figured out how to buy the right horses at the right time. This one's full of wild stories, buying million-dollar horses days before a race, flying around the world to race in Hong Kong and Dubai, and the highs and heartbreaks that come with it. But what stuck with me most is how much Michael still loves the game. Even after all the pressure, all the wins, all the money spent, he's still out there watching morning works like it's the best part of his day. Key Topics we discussed: Why Michael only buys horses that have already raced, and how that's helped him win bigThe story behind Big Brown and how it felt to win two legs of the Triple CrownWhat it's like to wire a million dollars for a horse just days before the Breeders' CupWhy elite horses have to be mentally tough, not just talentedHow horse racing pulled him back in after he stepped awayFollow Michael on Instagram: @michael.iavaroneSubscribe and follow Horse People Podcast for more cross discipline content and stories from equestrians all around the world. @horsepeoplepodcast

Swing voters are pretty fed up with politics in general. They're often “swingy” because they can't really stand either party. And in our most recent focus group, they all let political leaders HAVE IT. We also check in with Maine Democratic primary voters on their U.S. Senate race, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest proxy wars in the Democratic Party in 2026 and is telling us a lot about what Democrats are more willing to tolerate from candidates, as long as they fight. To what extent does the course of history turn on the force of individual personalities? It's a question that looms large when examining the unlikely alliance forged between Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union that ultimately triumphed over the Axis powers in the Second World War. Danny Bird speaks with author Tim Bouverie to explore the complex, often uneasy rapport between Winston Churchill, Franklin D Roosevelt and Josef Stalin. Tim delves into the secrets, suspicions and towering ambitions that defined this remarkable chapter in wartime diplomacy, revealing how the fragile unity among these three leaders not only shaped the path to victory but also laid the uneasy foundations of the postwar world order. What happens when a shy farm kid from rural Wisconsin who never dreamed of being a writer becomes one of America's most beloved storytellers? Michael Perry joins Infinite Loops to share his remarkable journey from cleaning calf pens to pitching scripts at Universal Studios, all while maintaining his day job as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in his hometown. This conversation is a masterclass in authentic storytelling, practical wisdom, and the power of staying true to your roots while navigating an industry that often values credentials over character. Perry shares unforgettable stories about turning down Oprah (yes, really), why he sells hundreds of books to "people who don't read" at firefighter conventions, and how his nursing background taught him the most important skill for any writer: human assessment. We explore his philosophy of "kindness is not weakness," the difference between cash and cachet, and why sometimes the best career move is knowing when not to move at all. Whether you're a writer, entrepreneur, or simply someone who believes in the power of authentic storytelling, this episode will remind you that sometimes the best way forward is to embrace your own improbable path and never stand behind a sneezing cow. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did.
