Interview by Kyra-Jade CoombsSydney trio Yours Truly stamped themselves on the Australian music landscape with their impressive 2020 album Self Care, which was nominated for an ARIA for Best Hard Rock or Heavy album.Rather than rest on their laurels, the band attacked their craft with even more intent, spending 2023 touring Europe alongside You Me At Six, ticking off their first-ever UK headline shows, supporting Against The Current in North America and touring Australia nationally with Neck Deep.Yours Truly kicked off 2024 with an appearance at THPS25 in Brisbane, celebrating 25 years of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater with Tony Hawk himself in attendance, as well as embarking on their entirely sold-out Call My Name Tour across Australia in March. The band will also return overseas later this year, appearing at Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK this August alongside headliners Blink-182, Fred Again, Lana Del Rey, Liam Gallagher and many more.It is a fitting reward for a band who have championed the cause of Australian music at every opportunity, with their new album, TOXIC (out August 16), set to propel the band and their music to even greater heights.HEAVY caught up with vocalist Mikaila Delgado and guitarist Teddie Winder-Haron to venture inside the new album and the band's future plans."Nervous, and excited," Teddie smiled when asked how they were feeling about the impending release of Toxic. "Mostly excited. We've been hanging out a bunch prepping for all the shows we've got coming up and practicing a lot, so I think just being around each other is hyping each other up. Still a little bit nervous, but I guess that's part of it."HEAVY asks about the selection process for album singles."Call My Name we chose just because we loved it, so much," Mikaila began. "It was actually finished before we tracked the album. It was the first song we tracked for the record and everyone was like wait and see what other songs we get from the album when it is finished - because a song can change - and we got to a point where we thought this song is still gonna be good, let's just put it out. I think Sour was the same. When we wrote it, we were like, this is gonna be a single. I guess it's just having that gut feeling."Watch/listen to the full interview for more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Welcome back, listeners, to another exciting episode of "Exploring the World's Cities." Today, we're talking about how FD Capital now covers the whole if the UK and it's most vibrant cities and towns. I'm thrilled to talk about the diverse cities and towns of the UK and share some fascinating insights with our listeners. So, let's jump right in. When we talk about the largest cities in the UK, which ones come to mind? When it comes to size, the largest cities in the UK are London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and Leeds. These cities not only boast impressive populations but also offer unique cultural experiences, historical landmarks, and vibrant communities. Let's start with London, the capital city. What makes London such a remarkable place? London truly is a global powerhouse. It's a city that seamlessly blends rich history with modernity. From iconic landmarks like the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and the Houses of Parliament to world-class museums like the British Museum and the Tate Modern, there's no shortage of things to see and do in London. The city also offers a thriving theater scene in the West End, vibrant markets like Camden and Borough Market, and a diverse culinary landscape. London sounds like a must-visit destination. Moving on, what can you tell us about Birmingham? Birmingham, often referred to as the "Second City" of the UK, is a bustling metropolis located in the West Midlands. It's known for its industrial heritage, vibrant arts scene, and diverse cultural offerings. The city is home to impressive landmarks like the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Cadbury World (a paradise for chocolate lovers), and the National Exhibition Centre. Additionally, Birmingham's canals, which played a significant role in its industrial past, provide a picturesque setting for leisurely walks. Host: Fascinating! Now, let's head north to Manchester. What sets Manchester apart from other cities in the UK? Manchester is renowned for its rich musical heritage, thriving sports scene, and vibrant nightlife. It's the birthplace of iconic bands like Oasis and The Smiths and boasts a legendary music venue, the Manchester Arena. The city also hosts two of the most successful football clubs in the country, Manchester United and Manchester City. Beyond that, Manchester offers excellent museums such as the Science and Industry Museum and the Manchester Museum, as well as the popular shopping district, the Trafford Centre. Manchester seems like a city full of energy and cultural significance. Now, let's head to Scotland and explore Glasgow. Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, is known for its distinctive architecture, vibrant arts scene, and warm hospitality. The city is home to stunning Victorian and art nouveau buildings, including the iconic Glasgow School of Art designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Glasgow's cultural scene thrives with world-class museums and galleries such as the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the Riverside Museum. The city is also famous for its music festivals, including the annual Celtic Connections. Glasgow sounds like a city with a unique character. Lastly, let's talk about Leeds. What makes it worth a visit? Leeds, located in West Yorkshire, is a vibrant city that blends history, culture, and a thriving shopping scene. The city is home to stunning architectural gems like the Leeds Town Hall and the Victorian Quarter, which houses boutique shops, cafes, and restaurants. Leeds is also known for its cultural institutions like the Leeds Art Gallery and the Royal Armouries Museum. And let's not forget the city's vibrant nightlife and the buzzing Leeds Festival, one of the UK's premier music events. Leeds seems like a hidden gem with a lot to offer. Well, that wraps up our exploration of the largest cities and towns in the UK. FD Capital are the leader when it comes to FD and CFO Recruitment.

Bedouin Soundclash are a household name in Canada, The UK and other parts of the world. But in the US, they are a lesser known group. They formed in 2000 in Ontario, Canada and scored the big hit "When The Night Feels My Song" in 2004. The song made it to Radio 1 in the UK and got airplay on The Edge radio show in Toronto. Not only did "When The Night" launch their career, the song developed a life of its own.  It was everywhere. You could hear it in grocery stores, on TV ads and on kids shows. Years later, some Bedouin Soundclash fans were surprised to learn that this was one of their song since it was the soundtrack to their childhood. Bedouin took a hiatus for a decade, and returned in 2019 with the record Mass. But in 2022, they released their best record of their career (And one of the best ska albums of the 2022), We Will Meet In A Hurricane. We talk to Jay Malinowski and Eon Sinclair about this wonderful record and their interesting career. We also discuss the new albums' guest contributors: Aimee Interrupter (The Interrupters), Marcia Richards (The Skints), and Kathryn Calder (New Pornographers). The band talks about what it was like to open for No Doubt, Slightly Stoopid and to play the Vans Warped Tour twice. And they tell us some experiences of playing the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival. We also talk bear sightings on their "Walk Through Fire" video shoot, working with Bad Brains' Darryl Jenifer on their early records, Jay's struggles with addiction, and what it was like for him to lose his voice at the Leeds Festival in 2006 and have the entire crowd sing for him. Plus we talk about Waffle House, a lot. On this episode of Headliners, Greg is joined by WELSHLY ARMS to talk about their new album WASTED WORDS & BAD DECISIONS.After dropping their anthemic single “Legendary” in 2017, the indie rock world was quickly introduced to Welshly Arms' penchant for unleashing larger-than-life alt-rock bangers and spine-tingling live performances. Their 2018 album No Place is Home has garnered over 350M total streams and provides a sensational musical journey that hits all the swaggery notes. Put simply, the band injects a powerful dose of emotion that continues to leave the Welshly Arms' faithful enamored. The band will be extremely active this spring. As they are set to drop their lead-up single “World is Watching” on March 24th before releasing their full-length album Wasted Words & Bad Decisions, on April 6th. The album comes right before the band embarks on a long-anticipated return to Europe for a month-long tour. Wasted Words & Bad Decisions was recorded in an old farmhouse in the outskirts of Cleveland, Ohio as the world endured lockdown. The tranquil and comfortable setting provided the platinum-selling five-piece band a welcome respite from the grueling demands of touring stateside and overseas. "With a long pause in touring and live performances due to the pandemic, we took time to reflect and refocus on our music,” says Sam Getz [Lead, Singer, Guitar]. “These songs speak to who we all are in this exact moment of our lives. Musically, we wanted this record to bring us back to the raw rock-n-roll that we had built the band on when we were jamming in the basement together. But, of course, we've also matured and gelled as musicians after touring the world together, and I think that intersection is what made Wasted Words & Bad Decisions so fun and rewarding to create." After dropping their anthemic single “Legendary” (now a certified platinum single in several European countries that has been streamed over 250 Million times) in 2017, the five Midwesterners were catapulted from playing local music clubs in Cleveland onto the world's largest rock festival stages including Lollapalooza, The Reading & Leeds Festival, Bottlerock, Rock am Ring, Hangout Music Fest, Shaky Knees, and more in less than a year's time. The quick rise for Getz, Jimmy Weaver [bass, vocals], Mikey Gould [drums], Bri Bryant [vocals], and Jon Bryant [voca ls] saw the band play for massive sold-out festival crowds instantly hooked by “Legendary” and other Welshly Arms' hits such as “Indestructible”, “Learn To Let Go”, and “Sanctuary” (the latter two were both Top Ten Songs in Germany) In mere months, Welshly Arms became indie-rock darlings cherished from Los Angeles to Warsaw. While being on the road in Europe and North America for seemingly two straight years, Welshly Arms' tunes appeared in popular media including Quentin Tarantino's award-winning film “The Hateful Eight” (Trailer), Underground 6 (Netflix), Empire (Fox), FIFA (EA Sports), and were used by major brands such as Miller Lite, Jeep, ESPN, MLB, NFL, and NASCAR, among many others. Heavily influenced by the classic Cleveland sound, the eclectic group harkened back to their diverse musical roots for their latest release; from jazz to soul, gospel to blues, rock to alternative, and everything in between. Wasted Words... is an impressive sonic evolution for a band that's known for smooth melodies, momentous choruses, bold guitar instrumentation, and slick production techniques. Hardcore fans will instantly recognize recently released singles such as “Are You Lonely,” “save me from the monster in my head,” and “Stand”, while fresh standouts like “Dangerous,” “One More...

Synopsis Today's date marks the original Columbus Day, honoring the Italian explorer who for decades was described as the man who “discovered America.” In recent years Native American leaders have pointed out that indigenous peoples had been living on the continent for thousands of years, and Columbus didn't “discover” anything — in fact, he didn't even know where he was, which is why he called the people he found here “Indians.” Some historians now think that Viking explorers from Scandinavia arrived in America long before Columbus – and others suggest the Chinese arrived before those Europeans. Even so, it's Columbus who has a national holiday (now always observed on the closest Monday in October), and concert music written to celebrate it. For example, there's a “Columbus Suite” by Victor Herbert, originally commissioned for the 1893 Chicago World Fair to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Columbus voyage, but not actually premiered until 1903. A much more recent “Columbus-inspired” work, and much more elegiac in tone, is by the Native American composer James DeMars. It's titled: “Premonitions of Christopher Columbus” and is scored for Native American flute, African drum, and chamber orchestra. In this work, DeMars blends sounds of the various ethnic traditions that would come to make up modern America. Music Played in Today's Program Victor Herbert (1859-1924) Columbus Suite Slovak Radio Symphony; Keith Brion, cond. Philharmonic conducted by the composer's nephew, the Austro-American conductor Fritz Mahler (1901-1973); The English musicologist Deryck Cooke prepared the first performing edition of Mahler's entire Tenth Symphony which received its first performance on August 13, 1964, by the London Symphony conducted by Berthold Goldschmidt; Since then, Cooke has revised his arrangement, and several other musicologists have prepared their own rival performing editions of Mahler's surviving notation for this symphony; 1931 - Rachmaninoff: “Variations on a Theme of Corelli (La Folia)” for solo piano, in Montréal (Canada), by the composer; 1951 - Bizet: opera "Ivan le Terrible" (posthumously), in Bordeaux; 1951 - Dessau: opera "Die Verurteilung des Lukullus" (The Trial of Lucullus) (2nd version), in East Berlin at the Deutsche Staatsoper; 1961 - Douglas Moore: opera "The Wings of the Dove" (after the novel by Henry James), in New York; 1971 - Andrew Lloyd Webber: rock musical "Jesus Christ Superstar," in New York City; A choral version of this musical was performed in Kansas City, Kan. Berio's "Sinfonia" in New York

Synopsis In James Joyce's novel “Ulysses,” the thoughts of its major characters keep shifting from the sights and sounds they encounter in and around Dublin to their private, non-stop interior monologues. This narrative technique came to be called “stream of consciousness” writing. In music, something similar occurred on today's date in 1968, when the Italian composer Luciano Berio conducted the Swingle Singers and the New York Philharmonic in the premiere performance of his new work entitled “Sinfonia.” “Sinfonia” included music quotes from Bach to Mahler intermingled with sung and spoken texts ranging from Claude Levi-Strauss to Samuel Beckett. There's even a bit of Joyce's “Ulysses” tossed in as well, alongside slogans from the student protests of 1968. The text of Sinfonia's second movement was a tribute to the recently-assassinated Civil Rights leader, Martin Luther King – and consisted of nothing but the intoned syllables of his name. “Sinfonia” was Berio's “stream of consciousness” interior monologue on the year 1968 made public with great theatrical flair: a dizzying mix of poignant music and political text. Berio was quoted as saying, “The juxtaposition of contrasting elements, in fact, is part of the whole point.” Somewhat to everyone's surprise, “Sinfonia” turned out to be a hit, and Columbia Records even released a recording of the work with its premiere performers. Music Played in Today's Program Luciano Berio (1925-2003) Sinfonia New Swingle Singers; French National Orchestra; Pierre Boulez, cond. Arkley on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 11am PST 9/30/22 About Arkley - Launching in 2021, Arkley is a new Scottish DJ and producer influenced by classic 90s rave, house and big beat acts such as The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and early Daft Punk. Arkley announced his 'Origins EP' in summer 2022, a project which explores the 90s dance influences behind his sound. First single, 'Back 2 Love (House '89)' was accompanied by exclusive guest mixes for BBC Introducing and Clubbing TV and made "tip of the week" on Arkley's local BBC Introducing, along with support from legendary DJ Judge Jules. The EP also includes the summery UK garage track 'All I Got Is Love' and the high-tempo track 'Burnin' (138 Energy Mix)' which recalls the rugged grooves of early Prodigy. Using a unique sampling style inspired by The KLF and The Avalanches, Arkley's self-produced debut single 'Music (Over & Over)' was supported by multiple plays on BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, and was used on primetime BBC News to soundtrack scenes from Leeds Festival. Second single 'Rave '92 (Everybody Dancing)' was made "tip of the week" on Arkley's local BBC Introducing and supported by tastemaker DJs such as Judge Jules. Arkley has been featured in DMC World, Mundane Magazine and EDM Lab, and he has produced guest mixes for Housesessions, Harmor On Mix and Trackwolves XL.       About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. Inside my shell I wait and bleed... or something. Remember Y2K? Remember pierced eyebrows? Remember moshing to Alien Ant Farm at Leeds Festival 2001? Yeah, it was rubbish. Here, we take to pieces a genre much-forgotten. A genre of skate parks and baggy jeans; turntable scratches and frosted tips; Durst and Levigne.Yeah, we aren't fans, but we remember it allllll too well. Building your strong foundation is work of art & patience's but it gets intense when you have multi cultural experiences. About Ishani - Since 2018, Ishani's music drops have each successively rained her raw heartfelt vocals and atmospheric, future thinking beats on us.“Insomnia” made her a BBC Introducing Artist and in 2019 she performed at Reading and Leeds Festival, where her much lauded single “Nothing's Changed” stormed the festival crowd. Ishani's songs take the surfaces, reflections and tribulations of modern life and cast them through the prism of Ishani's introspective voices. Not shy of big topics, Ishani engages with things our culture still finds difficult to talk about. ‘Don't Stop The Fight' tackles violence against women, while ‘Dark Angel' reflects on the loss of two of her close friends to suicide. It was described by CLASH as “a highly personal plea for mental health awareness.” Ishani has performed at Hungary's Sziget, one of Europe's largest music and cultural festivals, and she's also opened for Icelandic electro group Gus-Gus at Be My Lake Festival. Her work is a synthesis of influences, inspired by her cosmopolitan upbringing and travels through Bangalore, Cornwall and Singapore. She is currently based in London. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

As revenue models have changed, merchandise has become increasingly important to the livelihoods of many musicians. But fashion is also a big polluter and can be massively wasteful. British metal band Architects take a responsible approach. With their online merch store they release limited drops to reduce overstock, carefully select materials and manufacture in the UK to cut down on distribution. Singer Sam Carter joins hosts Fay Milton and Greg Cochrane to discuss how and why they've taken these steps. Plus, he chats about his work as an ambassador for Sea Shepherd UK – a non-profit marine wildlife organisation dedicated to end the destruction of ocean habitats – whose profile was raised by Netflix's recent Seapiracy documentary. — Sounds Like A Plan series 2 is supported by Festival Republic.
