Sharpson returns with a Trance infused Speed Garage banger: Taste. The Irish-born, London based producer has drawn inspiration from classic trance acts such as Tiesto, Chicane and Underworld and brought it to the contemporary landscape of modern dance music with a high tempo Speed Garage bassline. Moving away from his usual Jungle and Breakbeat influences, Taste harkens back to his formative years as a Trance-lover growing up in Dublin City. The arpeggiated melodies and repetitive vocals sit this track would nicely fit in with the early 00's Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher compilation albums which formulated the producer's love for electronic music growing up. In terms of releases, the multi-genre producer and DJ has seen releases on the likes of Dirtybird, Solamente, Snatch! and more recently Southpoint and Hot Cake's Breakbeat sister label Hardcore Energy. Notably, his tracks find support from luminaries like Skream, KiNK, Nastia, Four Tet, Deborah De Luca, Ed Solo, Riva Starr, Spartaque and have found a home on platforms such as BBC Radio1, Rinse FM, Boiler Room, HÖR, Ministry of Sound and more. Taste drops on the 28th of August on his label, Choki Biki Records. Nihal Arthanayake: From Radio 1 to Corporate Storytelling - Class, Diversity & the BBC's Blind Spots Nihal Arthanayake, former BBC Radio 1 presenter, joins Jimmy's Jobs of the Future to trace his career, from promoting rap nights at 16 and fronting Collapsed Lung to being dropped by a major label and pivoting into music journalism and PR before becoming a Radio 1 DJ in 2002. Nihal explains how radio shifted from gatekeeping to curating as social media and algorithms changed music discovery, and recounts his 23 years across Radio 1, Asian Network and 5 Live, including planning his exit and ultimately being engineered out after speaking out. He argues the BBC's biggest bias is class, says it “lies about diversity,” keeps people of color in boxes, and fears the Daily Mail more than ideological labels suggest. We also discuss interview craft, his book on conversation, and how doing stand-up comedy increased his confidence. 00:00 Intro 01:22 Welcome and Early Dreams 02:51 First Money in Music 05:33 Collapsed Lung Breakthrough 09:22 Go Discs and Muddy Funksters 12:34 Dropped and Reinventing as Journalist 13:46 Why British Rap Lagged 15:36 Gatekeepers to Algorithms 18:14 Landing Radio 1 Asian Beats 22:29 Representation and BBC Culture 31:24 Calling Out Window Dressing 40:05 Is the BBC Left Wing 46:32 Politics and Interview Nerves 49:33 Nerve Wracking Guests 51:08 Peterson Clegg Clash 52:53 Interview Style Lessons 55:06 Talking Ends Conflict 57:36 Mutual Friend Story 01:00:00 Research Like A Pro 01:05:19 No Gotcha Headlines 01:09:12 Media Tech Farage 01:14:55 Politics Brutal Switch 01:26:14 Kids Time Football 01:30:55 Stand Up Confidence Credits: Host/Exec Producer: Jimmy McLoughlin OBE Producer: Sunny Winter Producer: Thuy ********** Follow us on socials! Back with a guest! After last week's solo pod we welcome an extremely important figure in dance music broadcasting, BBC Radio 1's Sarah Story.Last week we talked about alternative media - of course BBC Radio is as legacy as it gets, but particularly in dance music there really isn't anything to rival Radio 1. It's notionally British public radio but the global influence is huge and the degree to which new presenters gain an instant profile hasn't really diminished.A relatively new addition to the roster, Sarah Story and her Future Dance show is now firmly established as one of the most important cornerstones of dance music radio. So of course she's a great person to have on the show.We dig into her journey to Radio 1, via Capital FM, seasons as a worker in Ibiza, and running the breakfast show on regional radio. And we also get into the workings of Radio 1 shows, how playlisting works, the role of pluggers, the wider perception of the station and the BBC... and a lot more. This is a good one!If you're into what we're doing here on the pod then you can support the show on Patreon! There are two tiers - "Solidarity" for $4 a month, which features the show without ads, regular bonus podcasts, and extra content. And "Musicality" which for a mere $10 a month gets you all the music we release on Hotflush and affiliate labels AND other music too, some of which never comes out anywhere else. You can also make a one-off donation to the podcast using a card, with Paypal, or your Ethereum wallet! The creator economy is barely twenty years old,
but already, it's dramatically changed the social landscape for brands and marketers. Audiences crave real life, not challenge videos; excessive gifting is seen as out of touch, not aspirational; and TikTok has levelled the playing field by making creators
out of everyday people sharing their stories. But if there's one thing creators know how to do, it's adapt. Creators are testing and learning, leaning into new content formats and features, and even building empires of their own. And old-school influencers
who made a name for themselves on YouTube have diversified their platforms and income streams as their audiences have grown with them. His love affair with the night began the moment he first set foot in a club, a passion that has profoundly shaped his life and career. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant energy of parties, the eclectic mix of colorful characters, and the endless stream of music, Kami has crafted a unique sound that resonates deeply with audiences worldwide. Originally hailing from Iran, Kami's insatiable thirst for electronic music led him to the record stores of Soho, where he immersed himself in the beats that would define his style. Podcast Overview: Charlie & Will discuss her career as a BBC Radio 1 DJ, creating a community through her radio show, progressing the genre & getting young people to be interested in the sound. Who is Charlie Tee: DJ, broadcaster, journalist and deeply proud music nerd: Charlie Tee represents everything that's special and vital about the new wave of inclusive energy exploding in dance music culture right now. Celebrating some of the most fundamental foundations of electronic music and its power to smash down boundaries, but doing it with an upfront, future-focused twist; Award-winning Charlie might be BBC Radio 1's first ever full-time female drum & bass specialist... But her roots, influences and collection runs super deep across all sounds and styles. Joining the dots between genres for many years in many ways, from her years as a prominent voice on the Kiss network to her current role at the forefront of one of the world's biggest platforms, Charlie Tee's years of studying, grafting and honing her skills have rightfully led her to the very forefront of this rave new world as a key voice of the next generation. Be it on her radio shows, her Unitee events, her label Total Music or her DJ sets, Charlie has consistently represented, encouraged and empowered new talent, championing early and breakthrough releases from the now renowned likes of Bou, Nia Archives, A Little Sound, Ewan McVicar, and Venbee to name but a few. Every bit as creative and forward-thinking as the artists and culture she amplifies, Charlie's editorial concepts and interviews bring out the best in her guests. She's also studied music production... Not just to make beats herself, but to also understand the magic of sonics and be able to interview artists with more understanding and empathy. This is how deep Charlie's passion as a professional music journalist goes. It's a passion and professionalism that can be felt in everything Charlie puts into the world. From her ever-intensifying schedule of high profile DJ sets to her hot-ticket Unitee parties and everything in between, Charlie continues to create space for the new wave with unapologetic enthusiasm and a firm belief that this culture is for everyone. And what's even more exciting is that she's only just warming up. Send us a Text Message.Nina Manolson is a body peace coach, who help her clients end the war with food and body and finally feel truly at home in their bodies, as they are now.*From the first second I started chatting with Nina, I was touched by her empathy and  warmth.  She was 100% present with me and was deeply invested in this conversation.I first came across Nina many years ago on the Fit and Fearless podcast on BBC Radio1  with Tally Rye, Victoria Niamh Spence, and Zanna Van Dijk. She read a poem on air called 'I feel fat' and she spoke about her therapist asking her,"but if you didn't feel fat, what would you be feeling?"Her words resonated deeply with me and since I started the podcast in January, I've been so excited to have her on as a guest. We talk about the following topics:- How do we be 'body current' and accept and find peace with the bodies we are in now?- Embodiment. How body image healing can only start to happen from the inside out.- How can we accept our bodies when the goalposts change through peri to post menopause?- How do we start feeling more like ourselves when our bodies start to change.- How getting curious about the body thoughts that arise can help us lead with self-compassion.- How to NOT compare our bodies to those of othersNina ends by reading a beautiful poem she wrote on the 'compare & despair' that we so often feel.Am I Bigger Than Her?Am I bigger than her?⁣⁣I ask my husband⁣⁣As a woman passes on the street⁣⁣⁣⁣Am I bigger than her?⁣⁣I ask myself, as I walk into the room⁣⁣Measuring up all the women⁣⁣⁣⁣Am I bigger than her?⁣⁣I look at a picture of younger me⁣⁣A “memory” on Facebook from years ago⁣⁣⁣⁣Am I bigger than her?⁣⁣I am asking:⁣⁣Am I less attractive?⁣⁣less powerful?⁣⁣less likable?⁣⁣less worthy than her?⁣⁣⁣⁣Comparing myself to her size⁣⁣And her size⁣⁣And her size⁣⁣⁣⁣If I'm bigger than her, then I'm less than her⁣⁣If I'm smaller than her, then I'm more than her⁣⁣⁣⁣And her size and her size and her size⁣⁣My self worth going up and down with each comparison⁣⁣Scoring points in a game against myself⁣⁣There's always someone bigger⁣⁣And always someone smaller⁣⁣There's no winning this game⁣⁣⁣⁣It's just reducing women to their size⁣⁣Aren't we bigger than that?⁣~Nina ManolsonYou can find Nina on Instagram or contact her through her website where all of Nina's  Body Peace offerings are available. For free resources, click here to access Are you feeling stuck in the 'earn and burn' cycle with your exercise routine, or as summer approaches, are you feeling self-conscious about wearing a swimsuit on the beach? Moving freely in the flux of unpredictable creativity and constant wide spreading interests, Elisa Bee has been mixing for over 15 years, beginning in her native Sardinia before moving to Milan. First picking up the decks back in 2007, it wasn't until 2012 that she decided to delve into the world of music production. Charmed by her work, UK-based DJ Haus signed her ‘Mind Game EP' to influential imprint Unknown To The Unknown. Since then, she has released music under Dense & Pika's Kneaded Pains, Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl, Ben Sims' both Symbolism and Hardgroove imprints, Truncate's label and UTTU again – and she remixed artists like Ewan McVicar and WTCHCRFT. Her own productions have been much welcomed by international audiences and artists alike, gaining considerable airplay both on the dancefloor and on the radio (BBC Radio1, NTS, Rinse FM, Kiosk Radio). In 2023 Elisa debuted on Boiler Room and her RA Podcast for Resident Advisor attested her as one of Italy's finest selectors and producers: “[...] exploring and then refining a style of techno that has that rare, hard-to-put-your-finger-on quality: a soulful reverence, paying homage to the old days and the originators without just copying them”. If you have listened to BBC Radio One or Kiss FM you may recognise the voice of this weeks guest, an award winning radio broadcaster who currently hosts Radio 1 Live lounge with Ricky and Charlie.Having won two industry awards at Kiss FM including the prestigious, ‘Best breakfast radio show' in 2012 to broadcasting over the BBC Radio One airwaves since 2019, Melvin Odoom is one of the top names in UK radio today. But what did it take to get to this level of success? From being bullied at secondary school and discovering “my sense of humour is my weapon”, yet still feeling scared years on, “people don't understand the power a bully has over you”. From being rejected at University due to low grades to then begging another University for a place at clearing, Melvin details how this rejection was his biggest blessing. From his first unpaid TV appearance dancing the robot whilst dressed as a dinosaur to then establishing his presence on TV alongside an award winning children's show. From experiencing racism in both his personal and professional life coupled with George Floyd headlines led him to an unhappy, isolated place, questioning, ‘why do people hate black people?'.Melvin's story inspires hope in a competitive world and industry, showing that despite judgement and set backs, leading with kindness, generosity and giving back to younger generations is a strength to his success.Listen to this episode if: If you are struggling to break into an industry or change career.
