Super excited to share this episode with you guys. This was one of my favorite conversations I've had yet.Sara Townsend of Phoenix Fitness has a great story to share and amazing advice for women in firefighting, but men would do well to listen too.Sara Townsend is an amazing wife, mother, entrepreneur, fitness coach and retired firefighter paramedic. Founder of Phoenix Fitness https://www.facebook.com/groups/470021078290261/ where she helps women and men pass their CPAT with 100% success rate.Check it out at www.myphoenixfitness.comWe talk about how difficult it is to have a miscarriage while still having to be at work caring for other people's emergencies. This was something I struggled with in PA school during clinicals and I can't even imagine how hard this would be as the woman going back to firefighting. There's no doubt that fitness is important in EMS, especially firefighting. This is a topic that pretty much everyone has room to improve upon; whether it's better sleep, hydration, mental health or exercise. If you have any doubt on your ability to pass a CPAT or are struggling in the fire service as a woman please check out Phoenix Fitness for some top notch coaching. https://www.myphoenixfitness.com/Email me at Aaron@practicalems.com with any feedback, questions or ideas you may have.Support the show
Jonah Mitchel the Founder, Co-Owner, & Head Coach of Phoenix Fitness & Nutrition. “My passion for health and fitness started when I was young and grew up witnessing my single-mother struggle with her weight & self-image. I ended up copying a lot of her same behaviors of punishing myself for never being good enough with my appearance or performance in sports, which led to years of poor self-esteem & unhealthy weight loss attempts to lose over 40 lbs before I realized that I didn't want anyone else to suffer the way my mom and I had to in order to live a healthy, happy life. I started my coaching career training athletes, which led to becoming a personal trainer at a 24-Hour Fitness. Wanting to help take my clients' success a step further, I got my nutrition coaching certification from the Nutritional Coaching Institute. I launched Phoenix Fitness in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and now I get to do what I love with my lovely wife, Hannah by my side!” Jonah is proud of his ability to adapt and pivot to be the best coach and company for the people we serve. As Owner of Phoenix Strength, Nicole is an example of her own perfect client. Middle-aged, over-scheduled, and not yet successful in building more time into the day. Nicole's commitment to meaningful advocacy is rooted in the notion that, with the right skill set, she could effectively empower those who were willing to work hard enough to improve their quality of life beyond measure. Parlaying a MA in Economics from the University of St. Andrews Scotland, Nicole's early career was spent navigating the financial sectors of New York City, London, and San Francisco, ultimately combining two skill sets: analytical research and writing for the institutional client. Later, a misguided attempt to pursue her love of advocacy led Nicole through a wrong turn into law school before she opened InForm Fitness in Virginia. In 2010, she found the Power-of-10 methodology of strength training and put into practice all she learned. The name InForm Fitness is the predecessor name for Phoenix Fitness, under which Nicole operated for over 8 years. InForm Fitness is still the name of the New York-based, flagship brand of Nicole's longtime mentor, Adam Zickerman. To Adam, Nicole owes endless homage. The advent of another school year. While the pandemic throws its own sucker punch at us, kids still have more traditional bullies to contend with. Whether face-to-face or cyberspace, the anxiety and the damage is real. Many of us can recall a personal struggle with this kind of confrontation. While we persevered, scars remain. Of course, our parents would do anything to help us, but it's not that easy. Their advice was well-intended but likely poorly informed.Let's start a dialogue before something happens. Listen to our experts and let's collaborate as parents. I think we can give our kids a better strategy this time.Feat. As women, we battle so many internal and external pressures. From negative thoughts to situations out of our control---it can be a lot. Sometimes it can feel like you will break under the pressure but what if it's that very pressure that brings you to your greatest purpose? In this episode, Shalida Gray, Fitness expert and Business Coach shares how the tough challenges she faced transitioning from a corporate job, experiencing divorce, having major weight gain, etc paved the way for her not only to find her purpose but impact the lives of hundreds of women through her Phoenix Fitness, Phoenix Academy and Lida Bonita businesses. Her endeavors empower women to move from being stuck to feeling comfortable in their skin inside and out. The message her remarkable story shares is that sometimes the worst situations can turn out to be the best opportunities if you have the courage to pursue them one step at a time. Listen now to hear this candid and insightful interview as Shalida shares the mindset shifts, struggles, and ultimate triumphs she gained when she got out of her own way, trusted her gut, and reclaimed her life. Shalida Gray's Bio Born in Warner Robbins, GA on Feb 24th, 1983. During her younger years, Shalida lived in Germany and moved with her family to Atlanta. She was married in 2005 and in 2008 had a beautiful girl named A'talie Gray. Soon after giving birth to her daughter she learned that she had Hypothyroidism (a disease that slows the metabolism) and was having difficulty losing weight. At her highest weight of 215 she decided to lose weight the natural way (nutrition and exercise). She lost over 65 lbs and was motivated to help others do the same. In 2012 she moved to Savannah, GA and was inspired to become a coach with an organization that would foster her skill sets and give her the drive to help others with their health and fitness journey. 0n Feb 26th 2018, after 12 yrs of marriage she went through a difficult divorce that inspired her to get a tattoo of a Phoenix to represent courage and to remind her that she was resilient and could rise above the ashes. Thus in April of 2018, Phoenix Fitness International was born. A company founded on inspiration, encouragement, and empowerment. Phoenix Fitness International is an online health program created to see quick health results coupled with nutrition and accountability in order to stay focused on health/weight loss goals at an affordable price. Royce L. Claflin, owner of Phoenix Fitness in Dover, NH and creator of Barbell Athlete Ranking system (B.A.R.S.) was formally educated in business management. His obsession with strength training lead him to educate himself immensely in health and exercise. Furthering his education through numerous certifications and seminars and keeping up on the latest research and trends is vital to Royce and his coaching. He has a very particular set of skills you will not find anywhere else; Royce has experienced the worst cases injuries (ironically, outside of the weight room); these injuries include a spinal fusion, hip surgery and shoulder reconstruction. This experience has provided invaluable skills for developing his athletes and their education. Having extensive experience in different styles of strength training, from Bodybuilding, to standard linear progression, to the cube method, to Shieko, to Conjugate he has the ability to take clients from a novice lifter to a competitive athlete to a professional. What makes his story interesting, is how far He has came in his journey. His odds of being a competitive power lifter were certainly against him, graduating from from High School at 120lbs, 5’8”, 6’3” wingspan with a 80lb max bench press, pretty much drove him to exceed expectations and persevere through shortfalls and struggles . His lifting partners were piling chains and bands on the bars a long time ago before it was popular, and most of the time it was because of Royce’s crazy ideas leading the workouts. Royce built his bench press up to 365 lbs in 10 years, and again a second time after having both shoulders repaired. He deadlifted triple bodyweight with a dislocated spine, and squatted 4x/week under the same condition.
