Episode Summary Welcome back to the show! Today Erica interviews Annie Robert - viral mommy TikTocker. Annie shares all about making people around the world laugh, as well as about her recent recovery from alcohol addiction during COVID. Today we discuss the close and often dangerous relationship between women and alcohol. What often starts as clear lines, can escalate quickly into very blurry. Our "Mommy juice," and "Mommy needs her wine" culture does not serve women. In This Episode Annie, firstly, tell us a little bit about your background, how you grew up, a little bit about what your childhood and teen years were like. Can you take us back to the time where your drinking went from in check, to not in check? How did you know that line had eroded? Were you hiding your drinking? I have heard from many women with addiction on my blog over the years, and most of them describe hiding it from their friends or family. Can you describe the moment you made the decision to get sober? I imagine there were many moments, as alcoholism or any addiction is tricky. For our listeners who may be teetering on that line, what are some signs your drinking isn't in check? What advice would you have for women who may be on that slippery slope. Okay let's lighten things up. You make moms laugh. Hard! How did that start? Because I am a content creator, I am always curious with how talented people come up with content. Take us through that process. Tell me about this competition. You are ripped, Annie! What made you decide to do it, and I see you enjoy mustard? Is it hard to be so disciplined? You're a married working mom of 4 daughters! How do you juggle it all? Any tips? Annie, what would u tell your younger self What's still on your bucket list? About Annie Robert Sarcastic girl Mama, fitness enthusiast, sober but will still pour you a glass of wine. Episode Summary Welcome back to the show! I've got to admit, I am a little starstruck by my guest today. My story with today's guest dates back to March 2020— COVID 19 virus rears its ugly head. We are brought literally to our knees with global instability, struggling economies, people being hospitalized and even dying alone not able to be surrounded by their loved. Let's take a moment to realized the trauma we have been living through -it has been a really difficult year. And despite being a meditation teacher and a meditation student for almost twenty years, I started to struggle a little with sleep at the beginning of coronavirus. As a meditation teacher on Insight Timer myself, and user of the Breethe meditation app, I was familiar with Glenn Harrold's meditations and hypnotherapies, but when my sleep started to change at the beginning of COVID, I rediscovered Glenn, and consistently, I mean religiously started meditating 7 nights a week without fail to his hynotherapies and meditations before bed. My sleep became so deep and so restorative that my husband started asking me what was going on, “You close your eyes Erica and you don't even so much as move until the morning!” Thank you Glenn! In This Episode Take us back to the beginning. How did you find meditation and hypnosis? How did you become interested in this field as your passion and career? What is meditation because many people don't truly understand what it is What are the benefits of having a daily practice? Let's talk about hypnosis. The idea scares many people. What actually is hypnosis and why is it so important to overcome issues that people struggle with - addiction, anxiety, weigh loss, smoking? If someone is feeling stressed or overwhelmed, what are a few things they can start doing now as far as meditation or hypnotherapy? How can anyone start a meditation practice? What's a few of the most common things you hear about meditation? I know I hear, "I'm not a meditation person," or "I can't quiet my mind." (What are some misconceptions about meditation?) My girlfriend who is a Glenn groupie asked me to ask you two questions. Number 1, can you do a 963 Hz for the crown chakra? And question 2, will you ever do mini 10-minute meditations for your energy system? Tell us truthfully, do you ever get stressed or anxious? You're human, so I imagine you do at times, and if so, what do YOU do? I imagine you don't meditate to your own meditations? I don't meditate to mine. What are you currently reading? When are you at your happiest? Coffee or tea? Netflix or book? Beach or lake? Where can we find your meditations and hynotherapies? About Glenn Harrold Glenn Harrold is one of the world's most successful hypnotherapists and self-help authors. He has helped thousands of clients including many celebrities in a 25-year-career and has sold over 10 million hypnosis and meditation Apps, MP3 downloads and previously CDs. Glenn has written 7 self-help books, and his main app Relax & Sleep Well has become one of the world's biggest grossing self-help Apps. On the world's number one Meditation App, Insight Timer, Glenn is one of the most popular authors. In May 2011 he was made a Fellow of The British School of Clinical Hypnosis in acknowledgement of his achievements in the world of hypnotherapy. Episode Summary Welcome back to the Erica Diamond Podcast! Today I have a very special guest. Someone I actually met on Clubhouse, a new audio social media app I'm enjoying very much. This new app is so intimate, it lets us get so close to someone, that you feel like you're literally sitting next to them. I stumbled in a room recently on Clubhouse, and there I heard Cheryl Rich. I heard her share her life's story and tears were literally streaming down my face. Cheryl was pregnant at 11 years old. At 18 years old, her only child, Eric, was killed in a car accident. After a treacherous journey through drug addiction, prison and “self-induced-hell,” Cheryl rose from the ashes with brutal courage and fierce determination to overcome some of life's most mind-shattering tragedies. I felt her pain as she spoke, and yet I felt her resilience and her triumph and her power. I reached out to her and asked her if she would share her story with you-- our beloved listeners. Well, I'm so grateful she said yes. Enjoy our very candid, and very intimate and raw interview. In This Episode Take me back to your childhood. How did you find the inner strength to make it through those difficult times of addiction, incarceration, and the loss of Eric? What was the mental shift in your mind that had to take place for you to go from victim to thriving survivor. Talk to me about the role of forgiveness as part of your recovery. Cherokee Nation Sends Its First Delegate to CongressGuest: Chuck Hoskin, Jr. Principal Chief of the Cherokee NationFor the first time in US history, a Native American tribe is sending a delegate to Congress. Now, there are already a handful of Native Americans serving in Congress from a number of states. But the Cherokee Nation is sending a delegate to represent their own sovereign Native American government. The Effort to Bring Bison Back to the WestGuest: Kurt Repanshek, Founder & Editor-In-Chief of Nationalparkstraveler.org; Author “Re-Bisoning the West: Restoring An American Icon To The Landscape”“Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam, where the deer and the antelope play.” Have you ever wondered “Home on the Range” –the “unofficial anthem” of the American West -starts with buffalo roaming? I've eaten buffalo burger, but I've never seen buffalo roaming wild and I'm from the West. There are only about half a million buffalo in America today –most of those are being farmed for meat. And yet, the buffalo –or bison, same thing –is at the center of the Department of Interior's official seal and on the National Park Service emblem and, just a few years ago Congress made it the official mammal of the United States. Why are we so enamored of bison? Lava Mae and Mobile HygieneGuest: Doniece Sandoval, Founder and CEO of Lava MaeAfter a hard workout or a long day at work, a shower just feels so good. It's nice to be clean. But what if you didn't ever have access to a shower? How would it affect your confidence and social life? Or your ability to get a job? Most homeless people don't have access to a shower. Lava Mae is a nonprofit that has provided thousands of free showers for the homeless through buses converted into shower units. Since we talked to CEO Doniece Sandoval a few years ago, her idea has turned into a movement. Video Games and the Relation to Teen Violence: Is the Blame Justified?Guest: James D. Ivory, Professor and Research Director, Department of Communication, Virginia TechWhy do violent video games always come up in the days after another mass shooting in America? Politicians of both parties have, for years, called out video games for promoting violence. And it makes sense that spending hours shooting people indiscriminately in a virtual world might translate over to the real world. Sharing Funny Posts on the Internet Could Be a Copyright ViolationGuest: Ruth Carter, Attorney, Carter Law Firm, Author of “The Legal Side of Blogging: How Not to Get Sued, Fired, Arrested, or Killed”When something doesn't seem fair, it really irks me. Always has. So I'm irritated when I see a funny video or cleverly-captioned photo pop up on my social media feed and it's gone massively viral. And I want to “like” or “share it.” But –and here's the fairness part –the person who made the video or photo isn't actually the person getting the viral credit for it. Somebody else with a bigger following snagged the content and posted it to their feed and they're getting all the traffic –and probably even making a buck off it. So then, I'm thinking, “Well I don't want to help this cheater. I want to go like the original post and give credit to the person who created it.” But I can't find the original online –it's hard to track those things down. And really, shouldn't there be a law that prevents this kind of rampant ripping off of other people's property? A lot of folks (myself included) love to travel. A lot of folks also say how wonderful it would be to live overseas. But not a lot of folks actually get to the stage of shopping around for apartments abroad. That's a whole other level of gutsiness. So that's what Nina Ferreyra and I talk about today! Nina Ferreyra is the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of 707AVE. She works with women entrepreneurs who want to get clear on their branding and business goals. All her awesome links are available in the show notes of this episode at barenakedbravery.com I wanted to have Nina on the show today because she and her husband are doing something really brave. They're going to be living part-time in another country! Spain, to be exact. There is so much that goes into someone actually doing this. We chat about the imagination required to envision a whole new life for yourself. We talk about the "upper level limits" and the way our bodies physically handle new seasons of change and stress. We talk about how important it is to have a balance between mind, body, and spirit - especially during these seasons of bravery. Oh and since we recorded this interview a ways back, Nina and I will be in the Bare Naked Bravery facebook group this week to give you some updates on her story! Next time you're logged into Facebook be sure to search for Bare Naked Bravery in the search bar so you can jump on into it all! Whatever that means for you. Maybe it means going crazy with a new Pinterest board. Maybe it means a free writing session. Maybe that means just having a conversation with someone that uses a bit more talk about the possible than the impossible. Maybe that means sitting down to do a meditation on something you're taking steps to create.
