While I disagree with Jacinta's position on abortion and the intentional control of someone else's body, I found her, unlike many anti-abortion zealots, to open herself not to change her morals but understand that compassion is needed for those who do not necessarily share her religion or her version of ethics. Charles Lenchner has been one of the unsung heroes of the progressive movement for as long as I've been covering the movement. He was one of the original occupiers at Occupy Wall Street. He's a co-founder of People for Bernie. He's Executive Director of Organizing 2.0. He's part of Progressive Hub and Roots Action, and the list goes on and one. He's the epitome of the OUTSIDE part of the inside/outside strategy of activism. And yesterday I learned that he grew up in Israel, and today holds dual citizenship. Yesterday was the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Charles shared his story of growing up in Israel, a wrote an essay on his experience as a Jewish teenager in Israel opposed to the occupation. Charles joins us today... we'll talk about both his #PalestineDay story and his progressive activism, which is sorely needed right about now!

Born and raised in rural south Georgia, Winston Bolen grew up expecting to be a Southern Baptist preacher or conservative politician but over time things changed. Leaving the church in the late 90s, his former views were blown away by the myriad variety of fellow geeks and weirdos that brought different life perspectives to his online fandoms. The internet allowed him access to a world outside his humble upbringings, helping shape this bi, poly, atheist into a crusader for all things progressive. With the same fire and brimstone drawl of a southern preacher, he has found himself back where he started: fighting the good fight to win hearts and minds, just on a very different team. Winston makes his living as a project manager but in his heart, he is an entertainer. On any given day, he is a comic artist, photographer, writer, singer, or Burlesque emcee. Interviewer: MATTHEW BERKMAN. Bernie Sanders has twice failed to win the nomination for President, but in the process has transformed the policies and politics of the Democratic party. WINNIE WONG, a founding organizer of Occupy Wall Street, a co-founder of People for Bernie 2016, and a senior adviser to the Sanders 2020 campaign, urges that these transformations should be pushed further, even as the nomination has been clinched by a moderate. In her discussion with political scientist Matthew Berkman, Wong looks back at what she felt at the time were strategic missteps by Sanders, while emphasizing strengths of the campaign that the mainstream media has been reluctant to acknowledge. Her focus, however, is on the perils and promise of the current moment: a public health and economic crisis that calls for bold policies to protect the public welfare; a Democratic candidate attempting to rally the party, including its left wing; and a progressive movement that, without Sanders as a unifying figure, risks becoming the “wild west.”
