Governor, please tell me what you're going to do," she pleaded with Newsom.  The governor responded, "I'm literally talking to the president right now to specifically answer the question of what we can do for you and your daughter." Brian Thompson, the CEO of major insurance group UnitedHealthcare, was shot to death at point blank range in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning before he was set to attend an investor conference. The masked gunman, who remains on the loose, appeared to be lying in wait and shot Thompson several times from behind, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, but speculation has surrounded the company's policy of denying health care to customers as well as Thompson's impending testimony about the company's business practices. Increasing numbers of Israeli soldiers are becoming disillusioned with fighting in Gaza and other areas of conflict in Lebanon and the West Bank, leading some to refuse to return to the battlefield. On September 13, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a press conference in which he accused the Russian media outlet RT of covertly disseminating Kremlin-produced content and messaging via African Stream, a PanAfrican media platform distributed via its website, AfricanStream.media, and on social media platforms.   Shortly after Blinken's press conference YouTube suspended African Stream's channel. Meta rapidly followed suit, suspending its accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Protesters in New York have demanded accountability after police fired at a suspected fare-evader in a busy subway station, hitting a bystander in the head. The man, Gregory Delpeche, remains in the hospital in critical condition and has undergone cranial surgery, according to US media. Police said two officers shot at the suspected fare-evader on Sunday after he refused to comply with orders, muttered threats and drew a knife.
