Leviticus 15 speaks of issues arising from the flesh. Once again talking about the sin that arises from the conflict between that which is natural to us; and the developing mind which is striving for holiness before our Father (Romans 7 verses 15-8 verse11 consider carefully). Verses 1-15 talk of running issues in men – verses 1-12 the unclean issue and how it is transferred from one to another; verses 13-15 tell of the period of cleansing and the required offerings. Verses 16-18 address impurity in physical relationships between man and woman. Verses 19-30 outline running issues in women – verses 19-24 talks of normal menstruation and the measures to be followed in order to avoid the transferring of impurity and disease; verses 25-27 abnormal and prolonged menstruation (a woman with this problem was cured by our Lord Jesus Christ; see Mark 5 verses 24-34); verses 28-30 the period of purification and the necessary offerings. Verses 31-33 describe the reason for these laws about issues. Consider the importance the LORD places on these laws (v31). In Psalm 117 we have the shortest “chapter” in the Bible. In Psalm 118 we have the middle “chapter” of the Scriptures. And in verse 22 of Psalm 118 we have the middle verse of the Bible. It of course centres on our Lord Jesus Christ for he is the central theme of the Scriptures. He is in every chapter; and without him there can be no Bible. “THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED HAS BECOME THE CORNERSTONE” (ESV). Psalm 117 calls upon all nations to extol Yahweh for His everlasting kindness (“chesed”) and truth (Romans 11 verses 22-23). These will be the hallmarks of the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Psalm 118 continues the theme of the LORD's enduring stedfast kindness. It is a Messianic Psalm so often quoted in the New Testament. The saints must thank our Sovereign (Yahweh – the LORD) for His covenant love. From verses 5-21 is a pattern of prayer calling from out of the Psalmist's (Jesus') distress; alternating with praise and thankfulness for the writer's deliverance. The trials surrounding our Lord's crucifixion are described in verses 5-7, verses 10-13 and verses 17-18. The songs of thanksgiving are found in verses 8-9, verses 14-16 and verses 19-21. Note that Messiah says that his enemies would be destroyed in the name of Yahweh (compare Proverbs 18:10). The great work of the Almighty is the focus of the twenty second verse (Isaiah 8 verses 11-16, 28 verses 14-17; 1 Peter 2 verses 4-10). The three synoptic gospel accounts all quote verses 22-23 of Psalm 118, as applying to our Lord's crucifixion. When our Lord Jesus rode into Jerusalem prior to his death the multitude cried out in the words of verse 25-26. Verses 27-28 tell us that' like Isaac (Genesis 22), our Lord was bound – and yet he willingly submitted to the painful and humiliating appointed death. And so Messiah, the now glorious, but previously slain, Saviour praises his Almighty Father in a redeemed and immortalised body. “O give thanks to Yahweh, for He is good; for His stedfast love endures forever!” (Verse 29 ESV). 2 Corinthians 10 tells us that the battle for Christ's soldiers is in the realm of their mind – a spiritual warfare designed to bring every thought into captivity to Christ. The great Apostle answers his critics who claim that he could cogently argue, but was a weak orator. Paul promises to sort these foes out when he comes to Corinth. Commendation from the tongue of humans is worthless. The Apostle's approval would come from the Lord Jesus Christ. In chapter 11 Paul tells them that he loves and guards them from their enemies and would be deceivers. The Apostle says that he is as a true husband to the disciples who he has begotten in Christ: compare Galatians 4:19-20. Paul gives an analogy from Genesis 3 proving that the events of the temptation in Eden really happened. Then from verses 7-15 the Apostle sarcastically compares himself with the false teachers – the judaisers. Finally from the 16th verse to the chapter's end he composes a catalogue of his sufferings in order to assert his credentials as a committed Apostle of Christ. Paul concludes the list with an account of an act earlier after his conversion of which he was ashamed. His seemingly fleeing from Damascus after having being let down the wall in a basket to escape.

It's December 26th, 2024, and this is day 361 of our journey through the scriptures. I'm your host, Hunter, your brother and Bible reading coach, here to spend some quality time with you in the pages of the scriptures. Our goal goes beyond just reading; we seek to experience the transforming life, presence, and love of Jesus. Today, we'll be delving into Psalm 117 and 119, followed by 2nd and 3rd John. These readings highlight the beauty and power of God's word, His unfailing love, and the fulfillment of His promises. Together, we'll reflect on the treasures of God's word, its ability to revive, encourage, and guide us. We'll end our time with heartfelt prayers and a call to carry God's love and peace into the world. So, join me as we warm our hearts by the fires of His love and deepen our understanding of His word. Let's get started! TODAY'S DEVOTION: Psalm 19 is an amazing declaration of the beauty of God's word. Verses 11 through 13 says, I have hidden your word in my heart that I may not sin against you. I praise you, oh, lord. Teach me your decrees. I have recited aloud all the regulations you've given us, and that's what we've been doing here at this podcast. All this last year and for the last 7 plus years, we've been reciting aloud the wonderful works of God, and we have hidden his word in our hearts because it helps us not to sin. But that's not the only thing that the word of God does. Psalm 119 gives us an amazing litany of the treasures of God's word and all that it does for us. The word of God revives and encourages our heart. It keeps us from lying to ourselves. It's where our happiness is found. It rids us of shame. It renews our lives with goodness and gives us hope. It comforts us in times of trouble. It's an anchor. It keeps evil far from us. It teaches us judgment and knowledge. It sustains us with joy and gives us life. It makes us wise. It guides our steps. It is joy in times of stress. It is a great treasure. All of these things I found to be true. Just as the psalmist says, his word is more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. His promises are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. By god's grace, we will continue to hold tightly to the word of truth. Through good times and bad, through the storm or in calm seas, we will hold to him. He honors us as we honor his word. He blesses us when we seek him with all our hearts. The treasure, friends, is right here. The treasure is him. His word points us to him, reveals him, and he is the treasure our hearts are longing for. So let's open our hearts to his word and let it do its good work within us and guide us into his presence so that we might walk by his side and have his joy. And that's the prayer that I have for my family, and that's the prayer that I have for you.  TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

Carefully Examining the Text

“It is not only the shortest psalm in the collection but also the shortest chapter in the Bible” Alter, 414; Longman, 398.  It is 27 words in the NASB and 28 in the ESV. In Hebrew it is only 17 words. “Many Hebrew mss.attach it to Ps. 116….Other Hebrew mss. join the psalm to Ps. 118” Allen, 117.The basic structure of a song of praise is simple. It begins with a call to praise (vs. 1). Then the word translated for or because introduces the reason for praise (lines 1 and 2 of vs. 2). Last, there is a final call to praise (line 3 of vs. 2).“Underlying this invitation is the conviction that the God of Israel is the God who rules the world” McCann, 1150.117:1 Praise the LORD, all nations- Other psalms, like Psalm 96:3, speak of praising God among the nations, but here all the nations and all peoples are called to praise God- Alter, 414. Laud Him, all peoples!- “This verb appears to be an Aramaic word for ‘praise, laud'; and unless it was also Hebrew but not used much in the psalms, it may indicate that the Psalmist chose it to address the nations since Aramaic was spoken in the non-Israelite world and became the dominant language at the time of captivity” Ross, 435. The word is used 11 times in the OT: I Chron. 16:35; Pss. 63:3; 65:7; 89:9; 106:47; 117:1; 145:4; 147:12; Prov. 29:11; Ecc.  4:2; 8:15.117:2 God's lovingkindness is described as ‘great.' The word ‘great' can refer to victory on the battlefield. For example, it is used twice in Exodus 17:11 in the description of Israel's battle with Amalek. Also see the word in military contexts in I Sam. 2:9; II Sam. 1:23; 11:23. The word is used for the flood waters prevailing- Gen. 7:18-20 – our iniquities prevailing- Ps. 65:3- God's blessings- Gen. 49:26- His lovingkindness- Ps. 103:11. “The Hebrew root is often used to indicate the power of a military conquer. Here it also affirms that God conquers the world, but that God does so by the power of His faithful love” McCann, 1150. God's lovingkindness has triumphed; it has prevailed.  Lovingkindness and truth are accompanied by each other in Ex. 34:6; Ps. 25:10; 36:5; 40:10; 57:10; 85:10; 86:15; 89:14; 92:2; 98:3; 100:5; 108:4; 115:1; 138:2 And the truth of the LORD is everlasting- The emphasis of the second line can be summed up by saying that God's plans and promises are as fresh and intact now as on the day that they were made; and they will remain so” Kidner, 412. His love and truth know ‘neither measure nor end” Allen, 118.God's lovingkindness and truth were dramatically demonstrated in the exodus and the events surrounding it. God revealed Himself to Moses as “abounding in lovingkindness and truth” (Exodus 34:6). “Their history was a monument to the greatness of His loyal love, for it was full of instances of loving, protecting, delivering, pardoning grace” Allen, 118. As Israel sang Psalm 117 at Passover, they remembered God's lovingkindness and truth in the exodus. God's dealing with Israel are a cause for universal praise among all nations and an attraction to all nations to worship such a God. Psalm 117 and JesusThe crucifixion/resurrection of Jesus is the ultimate display of the LORD's lovinkindness and truth. In the cross, God's lovingkindness and truth have triumphed, prevailed, and conquered the ruthless enemies of sin and death. The cross serves as a call for all nations to worship Him (John 12:32; Phil. 2:5-11; Rev. 5:8-14). Interestingly, as brief as Psalm 117 is, it is quoted in the New Testament. In Romans 15:8-12 Paul quotes from several OT passages (Rom. 15:9/ Psalm 18:49; Rom. 15:10/ Deut. 32:43; Rom. 15:11/Psalm 117:1; Rom. 15:12/Isaiah 11:10) to show God's desire has always
