Ambient Australian sounds are the name of today's premiere game as we welcome Mara, a key figure in Sydney's experimental scene to our platform. Her album, titled ‘At Every Corner' is the first on fellow Aussie label, Pure Space and comes via their home listening series. Stretching through seven tracks, Mara guides the listener along a journey steeped in field recordings, snippets of past performances, spoken word and more. Tokyo In 30,000 Steps tastefully combines several of Mara's performances into one as the song progresses. Beginning with bird-like synth trills, and disembodied voices murmuring in the background. A feeling of energy persists and scattered attention spans fill the space. Almost as soon as it starts, a sudden change occurs, and darker, drone-like melodies emerge. Like a light and dark, contrasting moods, a call and response to symbolize the frenetic nature of today's lives. Tokyo In 30,000 Steps and in turn, the remainder of Mara's album will be released on September 19th. @maramaramusic @purespacefm www.instagram.com/mara.mara.mara/ www.instagram.com/purespacefm/ Follow us on social media: @itsdelayed linktr.ee/delayed www.itsdelayed.com www.facebook.com/itsdelayed www.instagram.com/_____delayed www.youtube.com/@_____delayed

A roaring hour from one of the most vital talents in Naarm: First Nations producer Paul Gorrie, AKA DJ PGZ. The Gunai/Kurnai and Yorta Yorta artist is a fixture of forward-thinking dance music in Australia, with releases on labels like Butter Sessions, Pure Space and !K7, as well as numerous club and festival gigs on the circuit. An international breakout moment now feels inevitable. There's much to be said about the lack of visibility and support for Indigenous artists within the global electronic ecosystem (we'll be publishing more on this soon), but at the root of all PGZ's disparate interests are community building and the advancement of marginalised peoples. To that end, DJ PGZ's RA Podcast is notably laced with multiple cuts from Nene H's Gaza fundraising compilation. It's distinctly fresh—the oldest track you'll find is from 2022—as he gallops through Kalahari-style wigged-out prog and techno, through to harder drum syncopations. Consider this a firm tip from us: PGZ is the truth. @dj-pgz Read more at ra.co/podcast/949

Roy Mills' productions are tripped-out explorations into the outer realms of the dancefloor psyche. Always referencing 90’s UK sounds, Roy neatly weaves sound system experimentalism, post-rave storytelling and movement-focused energy into sunrise-adoring bass music and techno. His DJ sets are both seismically bone-rattling and unpredictable; always twisting, turning and catching the dancer off-guard. He played in Bristol with Cando and Monika Tenaska before the world was put on hold and was due to tour Asia and Europe with his endearing sound. Roy is a regular in the Rinse FM studios and has provided mixes to Chile’s JOIA magazine and Fake Rolex, Bristol’s Noods Radio and Sydney’s number one bass-leaning show, Body Promise. 2019 saw Roy debut a single on Andy Garvey’s Pure Space records. Shortly after, he moved to London from Melbourne where he launched his label Local Knowledge Records with Melbourne stalwarts DJ Mum and Issa, while also releasing his debut LP as a private press CD. Recently, Roy produced two EP’s, an LP, and scored a short film; all due for release later this year. This absorbing mix of contemporary dance music is the perfect start to the new year. @private_planet ==================================================== Upcoming Novel events: Novel x Other People Pres. Sydney-based DJ and radio host Andy Garvey is a real go-getter. Having been a regular fixture on the Australian airwaves for many years now, hosting shows Spin The Bottle and Future Classics on FBi Radio and Triple J's Mix Up and Friday Mix, her radio skills have also given her a home on Amsterdam's Red Light Radio with her Pure Space show. She's given her new label the same name, which launched at the beginning of this month with a four track V/A including contributions from E Davd, Reptant, Point Guard and Daze. Musically cruising through breakbeat, electro and techno, it's representative of Andy's tastes as a DJ and as a producer — her debut release Eternal Recurrence has just come out on Lobster Theremin. Fresh off the back of her first Boiler Room appearance at Pitch Music and Arts festival, we are hyped to have her at the controls for our Wednesday Alternative mix, a deep dive into her leftfield, experimental tastes... Keep your eye on Andy, she's definitely a name you'll be hearing more of in future.

After an absolute stunner set supporting K-Lone and Madam X last month (not to mention another killer close at Nectar last weekend) what better person to bring in the Spring section of this years mix series than @na-ta-li-a. This month, Natalia brings us deep into the realm of d'floor ready, bass (heavy) hitters. Exploring all the sick sub-heavy percussive stuff we love with a cheeky special focus on some exceptional local Sydney artists who are producing legitimately world class tunes right now. If you liked this mix as much as we do, you can get even more every Thursday night on FBi Radio where Natalia showcases Australia’s best local talent. For the rest of this month too, she'll be covering for Andy Garvey’s “Pure Space” so get onto that on Monday nights.
