BIG Life Devotional | Daily Devotional for Women

Recently God has lovingly asked me to adjust my conversations with him. Out of neglect, my prayers have become mostly a list of ways I want God to move and act. God, do that, then do this. I'm continually suggesting his next move. I push my preferred destiny on the one who holds the ultimate […]

Do you know what the ministry of presence is? This is a ministry every Christ-follower should take seriously, and every one of us is qualified and equipped for this ministry. Galatians 6:2 describes it this way: Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. That is an important part of this ministry of presence—simply being there for others, carrying their burdens, sharing their sorrows, as well as increasing their joys by our presence. This is the fulfillment of the law of Christ, the teaching of Jesus. This is the new commandment Jesus has given us, and it should be a hallmark of our lives as Christ-followers. So, what I want to ask you today is: What person in your life right now could use your presence? What person needs to know that someone cares and hasn't forgotten them? Stop right now, if you can, and let God's Spirit reveal that person to you. Perhaps a name popped right into your mind; if not, ask God to reveal that person to you. It may be someone very close to you, a relative or close friend; or it may be someone you just met. Or could it be a stranger you haven't met but who is somehow in your life—the beggar on the street or your next-door neighbor? Recently God has made it clear to me that I need to do a better job of staying in touch regularly with some dear single women who have gone as missionaries to foreign countries. I've visited many of them, and I know how lonely and tough their lives can be. I know that they need the ministry of presence. They don't necessarily need to read my books or listen to my talks; they simply need to know that I have not forgotten them, and I can be present in their lives by way of the internet. The ministry of presence is not hard to do. You don't need a degree from a Bible school to do it; you don't need to be able to quote Scripture or teach a Bible study lesson to be qualified. You simply need to make a commitment to be present in a person's life; just be there for them, and by your presence you will communicate God's love. That's what people need more than anything else.

Building your house on the word from God

Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...  Jesus says:   It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Broadcasts – Christian Working Woman

No doubt you've heard of “spiritual disciplines.” These are things we need to do in order to grow spiritually, such as reading your Bible, praying, fellowship with other believers, memorizing Scripture, etc. Frankly, I would like to find another word to describe these things because the word “discipline” just has so much baggage attached to it. Discipline conjures up in our minds controls, regulations, rules, strictness—words that are not naturally inviting, wouldn't you agree? I would rather call them spiritual benefits, spiritual privileges, spiritual birthrights—something like that. These are the things that make a huge difference in our growth as Christ-followers when we incorporate them into our daily lives. The benefits of these spiritual privileges are uniquely available to those who have been born again through faith in Christ. So, are you taking advantage of your spiritual birthrights? Recently God put it on my heart to make it a high priority in my life to memorize Scripture on a more regular basis and encourage others to join me. We are beginning a new opportunity here at The Christian Working Woman, which I am calling “The Hidden Word.” The purpose is to encourage and inspire you to make memorizing Scripture a priority in your life, to give you a structured way you can do it, and to encourage you in every way possible to keep at it. Why? Because this spiritual privilege has benefits like no other. From his book, Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life, Chuck Swindoll wrote: “I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. . . . No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! . . .Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified.” Sounds like a deal too good to pass up.

Guest Speakers: Erion & Jonida Vogli Erion and Jonida Vogli are native Albanian believers who were saved in the early 90's after the fall ofcommunism in Albania, under the ministry of missionary Jeff Bartell. From the early days, God put a desire in their hearts to study the scriptures, to teach them to otherbelievers and serve in various ministries at Tirana Bible Baptist Church. They moved to the US to complete their college education and have served in church planting, Bibleteaching and training both in the States and in Albania. Recently God has put in their hearts a desire to take on a new ministry, to produce an accurate translation of the Bible in the Albanian language. After the fall of communism, a Bible translation was done in record time to produce a Bible that Albanian-speaking people could read in their language since a complete Bible did not exist until then. Unfortunately, while that served as a good start, it also had many issues which would be visited later in a revision. The revision done a few years later introduced even more problems and today there is still not an accurate translation of God's word in Albanian. The Bible translation work begins in September 2021. Alongside the translation of the Bible, they aim toproduce a dictionary of the Bible, a website in Albanian with the new translation with advanced searchand study tools, and smartphone applications with the new translation. Erion and Jonida have two children, Ema and Ezra. To sign up for updates on the progress of the translation work, please visit www.thealbanianbible.com

In times of difficult circumstances or uncertainty, it can be so easy to feel overwhelmed and easily get stressed and anxious. Through my walk with Christ, I have faced many situations that I have let fear and anxiousness creep in, and I didn't look to God in those situations. Often, when we let fear and worry control us, it can keep us from fully being who God made us be. Going through battles and facing different trials throughout my life, I have learned so much. Recently God has been teaching me, that even in times when it seems like we don't have any control over things, we can find comfort in peace in the Lord. I wanted to share what I have learned along the way, and what has helped me overcome anxious times. I pray that this can be an encouragement to you in some way, and you can apply this to your life. I pray that whatever you are facing, that you can turn to God and truly surrender everything over to Him, and not let fear and worry creep in and steal your joy. Why is righteousness so important, you find mention of it all over the bible.Matthew 6:33 (Jesus said) “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.”Matt 5:6 (Jesus) “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalts a nation.”Righteousness, what does it mean?Godly, holy living; things which are just and right before God, without sin, acting as God wants, how God acts.It is also our standing as believers before God because He accepts us as righteous because of the sacrificial death of Jesus for us, Romans 5:19. But although we are born again, of God the Holy Spirit, and we are a new Spirit person, we still have the old person we call the flesh. So we are two people and they fight against each other, one is holy and loves the things of God, the other is sinful and loves ungodly things. Read Romans 8:5-17 for more about that. But let's get back to our righteousness behaviour, why is it so important? When we act in righteousness we; Are in fellowship with Him and we can be very intimate with Him, God can direct us and use us for His purposes, We give glory to God through our actions and thoughts,Our lives are a witness and testimony to God but also to principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. This is important to God, Ephesians 6:12; Revelation 12:11.Righteousness is best for us and we feel happiest when we are close to God.In recent years I have started to think that our sins as believers were not so important to God based on the fact that He knows us so well and God the Holy Spirit in particular puts up with so much sin on our part. I mean have you ever thought about how much you sin in your thoughts in one day, and the Holy Spirit who lives in us, still sticks around! But my creeping theory that sin was not so important for believers has been brought up short recently after I studied the seven letters to the churches at the beginning of the book of Revelation.Let us have a brief look at these letters, they are in Revelation chapters 1 and 2. As we read these words remember that this is your loving Lord Jesus speaking, who you know and pray to every day.Of the seven churches that Jesus asks John to write to, all but one have achieved some good things but five are in trouble with the Lord. To the first church in Ephesus Jesus said, Rev 2:4, “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have fallen; repent and do the first works or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place-unless you repent.” (NKJV). This church had fallen away from the love of Jesus and had not tried to get back to that position. Jesus said He would come and remove the presence of God if they did not repent. Then we jump to Rev 2:12-17, the church in Pergamos. You can read it. This church was compromising with people who taught idolatry and sexual immorality. Jesus said that if the church did not repent, He would come and fight against the ones acting and speaking in sin and no doubt it would be very chaotic and the whole church would be affected by Jesus' actions.2:18-29, the church in Thyatira. This church was being tempted by an individual to mislead the believers into sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols with wrong motives. Jesus said He would kill the individual's followers.3:1-6, the church in Sardis. Jesus said this was a dead church and He would come like a thief in judgement of them.3:14-18, the church in Laodicea. Jesus said this, 15-17, “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth. 17 “Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'-and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked- “Wow, “vomit you out of my mouth”, I would not have believed Jesus would say that to a church! Vomiting is a violent action, Jesus was not mincing His words. Some Christian friends told me recently that “nothing bad comes from God”, really? But Jesus ends His words to these churches with this explanation, 3:19, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”So this is all discipline from the Lord but why is He so tough on the sins of these churches and by implication on us? Because sin separates us from God. Even as born again, spirit filled believers, our sins will separate us from God. And God desires, more than anything else, to be with us. That is why, in the Old Testament, He wanted a temple built; to be in the mist of His people. 1 Kings 6:12,13, “Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in my statutes… I will dwell among the children of Israel, and I will not forsake My people Israel.” And Jesus said in John 17:24, “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am..” The main desire of Jesus is that we be with Him where He is in glory!! God loves to be with us and always in communion/fellowship with us. Praise Him!Something more on the discipline, I find it very helpful to think of a loving father who is discipling his child. A parent who does not love their child will not take time to discipline their child. But if that child is misbehaving and will not respond to talking, pleading, encouragement from the father what will the father do? He will resort to tougher and tougher discipline until the child responds. The church in the west is generally very weak these days and those outside the church are becoming more and more ungodly and anti-God. So what do you think God will do? Just a thought. What about you? What sins are in your life at the moment. Do you have secret sins that no one knows about? God knows, but He says “Come close and repent.”Recently God has been speaking to me about something I had not realised before. That I can be arrogant. Maybe He was waiting for the right time because now I am really thinking about it and trying to change my behaviour throughout each day.Do you have bad thoughts? Do you fantasize about violence, gossiping or sex? Of course you do, and don't you want to stop? Confess these thoughts to God and ask Him to help you. God wants to help you, you cannot live in righteousness without His help. God is for you and not against you. God will go to any lengths to get you in His presence, we know that because He sent His Son to die for us! Praise Him.Is God speaking to you right now about sin in your life? Take some time now to confess all to Him and receive His forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” God loves you and wants you right beside Him, no sin is better than His presence!QuestionsIs there someone whom you trust, who you can be accountable to? Can you meet them once a week, pray and share the sins that you are struggling with? Why not get a concordance (or Google) and do a bible study on righteousness, we have only touched upon this important subject in this article. Some sins, like addictions, can take time to stop. But you can make an agreement with God that you will not give up and with His help you can change.Addictions can also me spiritual and demonic so get help if you need it.PrayersKeep praying for Uganda. We need a leadership which is strong, just and not paranoid about opposition.Pray for those who have been taken for their opposition to the president. That they will be treated justly and those who are innocent will be freed soon.We do not want Uganda to go in this direction of secret abductions and killings. Equally we do not want anti-government protesters to take the law in to their own hands in their discontent. God continue to help and have mercy on Uganda.Hugh Pilcher

We were never designed to be hyperaware of our bodies. If this is something you struggle with, take a moment to say this simple prayer, "God, help my inward beauty far outweigh my outer beauty. Recently God has been highlighting the importance of Glory in my life and in all believer's lives. What do we mean by glory? There are two general meanings.First, the glory of God. God is so powerful (all powerful actually), so huge (without limits!), so bright, so good, so holy (and I am struggling to describe God here) that He has His own glory. Where He is fully known, in heaven, His glory inhabits every part. So when we get to heaven we will be in His glory and when God has made the new heaven and the new earth, His glory will be everywhere, Revelation 21:1. We sometimes refer to heaven as ‘Glory'. When a Christian dies, we might say that they have been ‘promoted to glory'. Everybody might be sad at their funeral but they themselves are not sad, having arrived in heaven and seeing and fully knowing God. Now God is everywhere today, in fact he is running the whole show, all of nature, the whole universe. He is continually giving life to every living thing. He created every living thing and he sustains every living thing. For example, Psalms tells us that he creates and calms the waves 107: 25, 29, and he feeds the wild animals 147:9 and I am sure He really enjoys doing that, even though nature is currently fallen and groaning in expectation of the new heaven and earth. (That doesn't give you an excuse to groan about things!)
