Show Notes Lemuel: I am Lemuel Gonzalez, repentant sinner, and along with Amity Armstrong, your heavenly host, I invite you to find a place in the pew for today's painless Sunday School lesson. Without Works. Amity: At two National Prayer Breakfast events President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new task force, “The Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias,” to be headed by Attorney General Pam Bondi. “immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government, including at the DOJ, which was absolutely terrible, the IRS, the FBI — terrible — and other agencies.” As the name suggests, its purpose is to: “fully prosecute anti-Christian violence and vandalism in our society and to move heaven and earth to defend the rights of Christians and religious believers nationwide.” A few hours later President Trump signed an executive order putting this plan into action. The use of government authority to support and endorse a specific religious group has caused controversy with both secular and religious groups. With unresolved military conflicts around the world and heightened domestic unrest, why is this an issue? A task force to address the largely imaginary discrimination against the world's largest religion? We are subjected to a daily erosion of rights: the elimination of DEI programs, the curtailing of women's reproductive rights, the curtailing of rights for trans people, and replaced them with a thing like, “Christian Acceptance Day,” and rhetoric about the place of Christian faith in American life. Trump argues that he wants his new task force to, “bring God back.” Lemuel: Bring God back from where? Where has God been? First I have to assert that this is not Christianity. It is not the job of the body of Christ to oppress the needy. The current evangelical church is embracing a counterfeit version of the Gospel, with the mercy, compassion and love of God excluded. Salvation, in Jesus teaching, is not easy to achieve. It requires sacrifice, and devotion. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus gives a chilling picture of the Christian, “Day of Wrath.” This is the judgement day when God sits as righteous judge over the quick and the dead. In describing the day of judgment, Jesus draws a parallel to sorting sheep from goats. He describes God as a king, sorting sheep to right and goats to the left. Amity: “Then the king will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my father ; take your inheritance., the kingdom is prepared for you since the creation if the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison, and you came to visit me.” Then the righteous will say, “Lord, when did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go and visit you? “ “The king will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25; 31-45 Lemuel: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Immediately following this is the righteous king of the story condemns those on his left to a judgement prepared for, “the devil and his angel.” When those people ask what they have done to deserve this, Jesus starts with, “I was hungry and you didn't feed me…” Jesus is not in the habit of condemning people to hell. In fact, he mentions damnation comparatively little. You will find more mentions of hell in any given church any given Sunday. Jesus brings it up to demonstrate what God values, and what earns salvation. He also makes it clear what demands damnation, and it is exactly what passes as Christianity in the conservative movement. Show compassion and mercy, humanity, and love. If you do not you are cursed to the eternal fires prepared for those beings who rejected God before the world began. Bring God back? God is everywhere. In the church, yes. In the homeless person. In the Trans Kid. In the unwed mother. In the convict. God is in your queer neighbor. You can't bring God back; he hasn't gone anywhere. He's starting you in the face. He's been staring you in the face everyday. https://apnews.com/article/trump-national-prayer-breakfast-30ff6f55a2e3c7b8643a15e7b158537d https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/watch-live-trump-signs-executive-orders-related-to-faith-announcement https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/02/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-eradicates-anti-christian-bias/

2/7/25 - Donald Trump delivered a series of scorching remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast in which he denounced anti-Christian bias and woke ideologies and encouraged Americans to "bring God back." Should we take this as a sign of hope that Trump may serve as America's new Lincoln and uphold the dignity of all human beings? We'll also discuss the latest updates on House Bill 1373 out of North Dakota which, if passed, would classify an embryo post-fertilization as a human being. Ironically, it seems that opposition to the bill is actually being led by "Catholics"! Is there Constitutional basis for such a bill to be implemented? Live Action's Josh Craddock thinks so! And, in other news, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is at odds with the state legislature regarding how to handle the immigration issue. It's been a jam packed news cycle this week and we'll unpack it all today!
On this week's AP Religion Roundup, President Trump urges Americans to bring God back into their lives, and the world's Ismaili Muslims have a new spiritual leader.
Send us a text“Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands (for Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and he stood on it, knelt down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven); and he said: ‘Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven or on earth like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts'.... ‘“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built! Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O Lord my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You: that Your eyes may be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your name, that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place. And may You hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and when You hear, forgive'” (2 Chronicles 6:12-21).“When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord's house. When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying:“‘For He is good, For His mercy endures forever!'”(2 Chronicles 7:1-3).Written and sent out from the morning prayer time of Tommy Hays each day.God bless you and may you have a great day!—Tommy Hays | Messiah Ministrieshttp://messiah-ministries.org

At the end of the day, the best leaders are the ones who bring the blessings of God upon the people around them. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses the behaviors that will help us lead effectively in the approaching season. Instead of relying on “how we've always done it,” we need to become more interdependent on God—intentionally learning, growing, and being open to new things God wants to show us. A heart that's willing to grow and change comes through cultivating humility, recognizing and repenting for our own pride, and choosing to be obedient—even when it's difficult or doesn't make sense. Investing in these character traits will help us to hear God and carry out His purposes more effectively as we move forward. God can be brought to tears as He examines our spiritual condition.
Wednesday, 20 March 2024 “My manner of life from my youth, which was spent from the beginning among my own nation at Jerusalem, all the Jews know. Acts 26:4 More literally, it says, “Therefore, indeed, the manner of my life from youth, having been from the beginning in my nation, in Jerusalem, all the Jews know” (CG). Paul had just asked for Agrippa to patiently hear him as he gave his defense, knowing that Agrippa was an expert in all customs and questions concerning the Jews. With that having been stated, he next says, “Therefore, indeed, the manner of my life from youth.” The word translated as “manner of life” is biósis. It is a noun derived from the verb bioó, to live. It is only found here in the New Testament. We use the term “bio” in the same way today: life; biological, biography, etc. In using this word, he then further defines his manner of life with the words “having been from the beginning.” There are articles in the Greek of this verse that are not normally translated into English. Each word he has spoken so far has been intended to give a more precise statement concerning his upbringing. For example, someone might say, “I was a surfer, a surfer from my youth, even for as long as I can remember.” This is Paul's way of establishing the surety of the life he lived in the eyes of Agrippa. Therefore, any changes to this will be all the more remarkable. In other words, when he gets to the explanation of his conversion, it will indicate a sudden, abrupt change in a person who was very focused in one direction his whole life. Most people would tend to follow the same precise pattern unless there was a marked occurrence that subsequently changed their lives. To further bolster this deeply ingrained image of who he was, he then continues with “in my nation, in Jerusalem.” He continues making a poignant statement concerning his state, now adding the special location which would only refine that state into who he eventually would become. Once again, it would be like saying, “I was a surfer, a surfer from my youth, even for as long as I can remember. It was in Hawaii, on the North Shore, at Waimea Bay.” Paul will speak of his life in this early capacity elsewhere, such as in Galatians 1:14 and Philippians 3:5-6. His words to Agrippa are carefully stated to ensure the king is aware of exactly who Paul was as he grew. Thus, the change in him will be all the more remarkable when it is presented. Understanding that, he then finishes the thought with, “all the Jews know.” It is a confirmatory statement that his words are truthful and can easily be verified. Saying, “all the Jews” doesn't mean the entire nation of Jews. Instead, it is a phrase limited in its meaning and which refers to the leaders of the nation. Similar terminology is used in Mark 7:3; John 2:20, 3:25, 5:15; etc.; and in 1 Thessalonians 2:14. Life application: Paul was set on a course of life that was unlikely to change. However, the Lord stepped in and revealed Himself to Paul. From that time on, the direction of his steps was completely different. He made a complete break from his old ways and set his eyes solely on Jesus. Although we haven't seen Jesus personally, as believers, we have met Him through His word. If we believe He has saved us, then why would we be any different than Paul in our attitude? Was the change in Paul any different than the change in us? He was lost, and then he was saved. We were lost, and then we were saved. Do we really need a visual appearance of Jesus to spur us on to do great things? If so, why? What was lacking in our conversion? And if not, are we pursuing Jesus with all of who we are? If not, why are we not doing so? None of us should say, “My conversion wasn't that special and so my walk doesn't need to be so great.” You are an individual, only you received your conversion, and only you can use your personal conversion and your new life for the glory of God. Therefore, use it! Bring God glory with every step you take. Have faith in all you do. And be grateful from moment to moment that you were saved by the precious blood of Jesus. Lord God, may we be willing to work out our salvation with our eyes fixed and focused on Jesus. Help each one of us to do our utmost with the salvation You have granted us because of Your great love, grace, and tender mercy. May we strive to do great things in return for what You have done for each of us. Amen.
Today's episode is inspired by a question I got over and over again in my audience survey last year because a lot of you guys are like me. You are a personal brand business or other type of business but you are not a ministry, and what you do may have literally nothing to do with your faith on paper, but you ARE a Christian business owner and your faith is an important part of who you are and how you show up in the world. It also informs the decisions you make in your business, both the big ones and the small ones. But maybe you feel like your faith is a secret because you don't know if it's okay to share it as a business owner and you're worried you'll alienate clients or customers who disagree with you. OR - maybe you're feeling like God is calling you to share about your faith, but you're not sure what that looks like when you're a photographer or a designer (for example!). So in this episode, I'm sharing four ways to bring your faith in Christ into your everyday work life as a business owner. And stay tuned - we are also doing a part two of this next week where I'm sharing four more ways. Do you feel too busy to rest? DeLonda Adams, Podcaster of Girl Rest shares with us the importance of getting rest and how to find it in the midst of our busy lives. She points out that "Not all self-care is soul care, but all soul-care is self-care." She leads "Rest Retreats," has a podcast, and coaches women on how to find rest. She discovered that the more she experienced His grace, the more she felt rested. As a leader, we are passionate about helping others, but we often get exhausted doing it. DeLonda says that pride and unbelief are the main reasons we do not experience rest. Too often we depend on our own energy, wisdom, and goals, rather than God's source and plans. If we trust Him, He will make a way for us to accomplish all He has called us to do. When we take a rest, we can hear God and get perspective. Trust in God that we can take a day from our work (a Sabbath) and still accomplish all that God has for us. Often we are busy for ourselves, not for God. We often believe the lies that if we are not busy then we are not obeying God or we are not important. When we base our identity on what we do, we will not take time to rest. We need to check our hearts to see what is the root of our ambitions: to please God, to please others, or to get value from what we do. Are our ambitions selfish? If we are so busy that we do not have time for each other or for God, then we should evaluate if we are really doing too much. We need time to have soul-rest with God. We also need healing so we are not striving or operating out of wounds. DeLonda asks us if "we are busy because we are following the Lord, or following the values of the world? The Sabbath is a day when we can rest our souls. Bring God into it. Do not leave God out of your day of rest. If we leave Him out, we will still feel depleted. Come to Him and take His yoke which is light. During spiritual rest times, we can think through the challenges of our lives and He will give us perspective and help to process them. Three points for today: Be part of their life, Bring about healing, Bring God into their life.
We've all been there. You're on one path that you feel like you've been called to do and then as you're on that path, you feel led to go down a different path. And here's where the hard part comes. What do you do in that moment when you feel led to go a different direction? It's so easy to dismiss it and say it's a distraction from the original direction God was leading you down. It's also easy to start the whole mindset drama where you're asking “Is it really God or is it the enemy or is it just what I want to do?” All of these are valid questions and definitely things you should pray about in a situation like that. But I want to encourage you to also think about an alternative. What if this is exactly where God is leading you and He wants you to go on this journey because it'll ultimately lead to Him getting the glory in a way that you can't even imagine? Today on the podcast, you'll get encouragement for how to approach it when you feel like you're wanting to pivot (again) and you're not sure what to think about it. I hope you're encouraged by this episode and that you continue shifting your mindset toward Jesus so you can do all that He is calling you to do.

We made new friends over the summer with In Good Faith Podcast when host Steven Kapp Perry interviewed both 3 Black Men Podcast and Mommying While Muslim cohosts (that's US!) during Brigham Young University's Annual Religious Freedom Review. And there's nothing more freeing than being able to share your POV with other people who are receptive to learning and understanding. Building bridges is the way to build allyship, for ourselves and for our kids, as we like to say. Please note that Uzma got pretty excitable at about 45:54 and misspoke about the miraculous conception, but you know she means Jesus and not what she actually said. Interfaith incites passion, indeed!Tune in at 6pm EST on your favorite podcast app or head over to our landing page on the website mommyingwhilemusl.com for easy listening.Links:1. Definitely 2 men of God and their company is based on the scripture from Malachi 3:10- Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.And to say these men have been blessed by the spirit is an understatement. As soon as you hear them speak, you know they are filled to the brim with inspiration and love for all mankind. If you don't smile when you meet these two that means your hearts are hardened. They have been close friends for years and just as they won't let their business get in the way of their faith, they won't let a business get in the way of their friendship. To Learn More Visit:Storehouse 3:10 Mastermindhttps://www.storehouse310.com/mastermindStorehouse 3:10 Turnkey Websitehttps://www.storehouse310turnkey.com/

That is what we live for: to experience the glory of God, to reflect it, to bring it to the world around us, not for our own sake but for the praise of His glory and honor.Main Points:1. The glory of God refers to his beauty, majesty, purity, and power. It speaks of the greatness and wonder of God. 2. In His love for us, God created us to experience himself. He created us to experience his glory. We get to experience God's beauty, power, love, and mercy.3. Not only do we experience His glory, but we were also created to reflect it. Like the moon reflects the light and radiance of the son, we are to reflect the glory of God to others around us. People should see and notice there is something different about our lives.Today's Scripture Verses:Isaiah 43:7 - “Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.”2 Corinthians 4:6 - “For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.”Ephesians 2:8-9 - “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”Matthew 5:16 - “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”Quick Links:Subscribe to The 5 Minute Discipleship NewsletterDonate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group5 Minute Discipleship on Instagram
