Jane Travis tells us about her decision, after years of struggle, to seek counseling. She describes how it slowly changed her life for the better. Jane now counsels others. She also has a 21 day self care challenge which can be found on her website. Q & A Why is self love important to you? It’s everything. It’s vital. We can’t function without it. We have a responsibility to ourselves to take care of ourselves and look after ourselves. What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love? It was myself. I was the person holding myself back from self love. I didn’t like myself. That was me, being “Blinkered.” I couldn’t see any of my good qualities. I was holding myself back. What is the best advice you have ever received? My mum always used to say, “Never trust a man who says ‘trust me.’” What is a self care habit that you practice regularly? I make sure I get time to myself every week. I am absolutely fine saying “no” to doing things in order to recharge. Do you have a favorite quote? “You are not a problem to be fixed. As long as you are alive. . . you will still be learning.” Can you share with us a resource or an app that we can use to help our own self care practice grow? “Relax Melodies.” It’s a free app to help with sleep. It has a couple of guided meditations, it plays sound and music. What book are you reading right now? The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, by Marie Kondo. Guest Bio Jane Travis has been a counsellor/psychotherapist for almost 12 years. She also blogs about self care for people pleasers, looking at self care, self love, self acceptance and communication. She is a single mother of 2 boys (19 & 20) and a beautiful rescue dog.
