Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by a total giant in media and creation, it's RENAY RICHARDSON!Renay's been hard at work in so many ways and in so many areas of the game, and for such a long time, this is one of those episodes where a choice of lanes must be made, lest the conversation become unweildy and impossible to finish... She's also been a very big piece of the Distraction Pieces puzzle at the very beginning of the road so will always get props for that. This is an ace conversation which, as said, darts around willfully and for everyone's benefit as there's a huge amount to enjoy and get stuck into. Included among the darting is the old chestnut of Zoom recording and contending with that as opposed to the face to face, the many varied methods of becoming a parent and the difficulties for single women to adopt, starting early with instilling lessons in kids, time spent at The BRIT School, critical thinking when it comes to podcasts, and not getting everything from the same place. Saying all this though - high up on the list is the book Renay wrote with Arisa Loomba called 'Human Resources - Slavery and the Making of Modern Britain' - and best believe that gets a good talking about too. Proper fascinating and very very crucial listening here, get yourself involved.PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureHUMAN RESOURCES bookINTERVIEW RE: BROCCOLI PRODUCTIONSINSTAGRAMSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast. In this re-released episode first published on 4th April 2022, we explore the relationship between podcasting and power, both how podcasting has replicated and interacted with existing power systems, and how it offers a radical space for marginalised voices to create freely without gatekeepers. We think about how The Podcast Industry has developed into just another industry/workplace incorporating the issues inherent in those industries and workplaces. We look at the history and present of podcasting and ask you to consider adding your voice to its future. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!Another overdue one right here but somehow the perfect time to connect, this one’s a powerful catchup with Pip and one woman podcast squadron RENAY RICHARDSON!Renay is the CEO of Broccoli Content, and the Twitter bio says it all: “Production company creating opportunities for minority talent” - which gives you a strong idea of what’s happening over there in the Broccoli towers. Renay put together a five point pact last year on equality in audio, which ruffled feathers that needed ruffling, but also truly made bonds, bridges, and presented a positive and healthy agenda for the audio world. Breaking through the wall around the time of the George Floyd murder and surrounding strength that arose in the aftermath, it’s all the more poignant and really stood to shake up the industry, whether Renay was expecting it or not! So please, get to know Renay all the better and hear about what happened last year, what happened before, and what is coming along in the future. With the help of Broccoli Content, it all looks a bit healthier that’s for sure.EQUALITY IN AUDIO PACTRENAY on TWITTERBROCCOLI CONTENT ONLINETWITTERSONY PAGEYOUR BROCCOLI WEEKLYSCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAMSCROOBIUS PIP on PATREONNORTH STAR RISINGPOD BIBLESPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDSDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOKDISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAMDISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST ARCHIVE See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Renay Richardson is an award-winning audio producer and founder of Broccoli Content. Richardson made her mark on the UK podcasting industry with her highly-acclaimed series About Race with Reni Eddo-Lodge. Originally from Dagenham, Essex, as a young black woman living in Britain, she grew increasingly frustrated by the lack of diverse stories and characters featured on screen. Determined to make a difference and carve out a place for stories like hers, Richardson spent a decade in the entertainment industry, learning the business and climbing her way up. Richardson fell in love with podcasts and the way they engaged with an audience to speak directly to their passions and interests while working for Acast and a number of other leading podcast platforms. She founded Broccoli Content in 2018 after the runaway success of About Race. TBB Talks spoke to this phenomenal powerhouse about how she got into the business of podcasting, what it was like working with Reni Eddo-Lodge and what it takes to produce your own podcast. We got 99 problems but a credit ain't one. We originally met Liran Amrany at FinCon2017, where we learned he is the co-founder and CEO of Debitize, a personal finance application that helps consumers use credit cards responsibly. How does it work? Debitize automatically helps customers set aside funds to cover their credit card purchases like a debit card while still allowing users to access the benefits, protections, and perks of their credit cards. Before founding the tool, he spent 9 years developing derivative products for The Man at J.P. Morgan. On this show, we discuss his plot for financial world domination and much more, including: Liran's background and what inspired him to leave the 9 to 5 to pursue his own company His journey from mild-mannered employee to CEO of his own entrepreneurial start-up despite never having had direct management experience before leaving the day job The courage needed to believe in yourself as you move from corporate worker to self-employment, managing a team, and meeting investor expectations Debitize: reducing the fears many have of credit card use while giving you all the pros (and still protects you from yourself by not allowing you to overdraft your account) References Mentioned on this Show Debitize.com Exclusive to PaychecksAndBalances Listeners: Receive a $10 Credit towards your Debitize account by visiting Debitize.com/PayBalances Debitize in the News The New York Times: How to Make Your Credit Card Act Like a Debit Card FinCon 2018 ICYMI - CBS News' CBSN: Your Money Matters ft.
