More than 70% of all wine produced in the world is what's known as bulk wine, which means it's shipped to its destination in Flexitanks. In this revealing episode, we speak to Florian Ceschi, the European Director of Ciatti, the world's biggest bulk wine broker. He's the man who knows what wine is being produced in the world, where it's being shipped, who's buying it — and what they're doing with it. This episode will take you right into the engine room of the global wine business, exploring how the bulk wine market works, from vineyard to brand creation. His insights include: 1. Bulk wine is about one company selling to another. But why would one company sell their wine — and another buy it? Florian outlines all the reasons why wineries and other companies might want to buy a shipment or two of wine. 2. The role of the broker. The middleman plays a critical role in the world's wine market, making sure that wine gets to market on time and in perfect condition. Sometimes it means the brokers need to make adjustments to the wine. 3. How the world of wine is driven by fashion. Aromatized wines, wine cocktails, and Moscato have all been recent wine fashions. Florian discusses how the market finds the supply they need at top speed — and what happens when varieties and styles fall out of fashion. 4. How private labels work. There are brands… and then there are private labels, which are brands created by retailers like supermarkets, who can switch products in and out as they need it. Florian discusses why businesses would go to all the trouble of finishing and bottling their own wines, instead of just buying them. 5. From appellations to anonymity. Wine is supposed to be about specific terroirs, but the allure of bulk wine is that it's anonymous. How is this inherent tension resolved?  Join us for what turned out to be a fascinating journey into a critical part of the wine world that very few people know about. Shoutout to our sponsor! 3 million heat pumps were installed in Europe in 2022 (up 38% year on year) with some markets going crazy (Poland went up 120%). The movement is not limited to Europe, as US annual sales rose above 4 million units for the first time in 2022 (more than gas boilers). As the deployment of heat pumps has reached an inflection point in 2022, we wanted to dig deep into the decarbonisation of heating. We wanted to talk about new technologies, economics and government interventions which are sometimes good (ban of new oil and gas boilers, subsidies) sometimes bad (electrons are more taxed than molecules). This silent revolution needed a voice, and that's our friend Jan Rosenow. Jan is the European Director of the Regulatory Assistance Project, a global energy think tank working on clean energy. He is also an Honorary Fellow at Oxford University. Jan Rosenow is a global heat pump expert and has tracked heat pump markets around the world. Download our FREE Pause for Peace app. ******************* Terrorist Attacks in Paris - Message from Sister Jayanti, European Director, Brahma Kumaris Our thoughts, meditations, and deepest sympathy are with our brothers and sisters of France at this distressing time. What is happening in France, and in many other parts of the world, is an expression of the extreme insecurity and fear that lead to acts of violence. There is a spiritual void within individuals and communities, which is quickly filled by anger and hatred. At the present time, it is of paramount importance to counteract the fragmented atmosphere of fear with a healing atmosphere of love, founded on our love-filled thoughts, attitudes, and intentions. For this, every individual needs a deep and sustaining inner strength, the depth of strength that comes from our connection with God. A healing atmosphere will help restore lives and build bridges between communities and religions, diminishing the accumulation of fear and negativity. This is the greatest means we have for lasting change in the world. We invite you to spend some time in silence each day, allowing your mind and heart to be a reservoir of love for those in Paris and for those driven to such desperate acts, and to create an atmosphere of peace in the world.  Om shanti. I am peace.

Julia Fisher talks to Avi Snyder - This programme is all about telling the stories of both Jewish and Arab believers in Jesus, most of whom live in Israel. However, my guest today, although he is Jewish, is a missionary based in Budapest. His name is Avi Snyder and he is the European Director of Jews for Jesus. He has worked in many Eastern European countries including the former Soviet Union, as he now explains. Our aim is to build bridges... To build bridges of understanding and support, in a spirit of reconciliation, between believers (both Jewish and Arab) in the Holy Land (Israel and the Palestinian Areas) and Christians worldwide. olivetreefund.org jewsforjesus.org
