Just trying to prove to myself that I could be an opener which is what I would prefer in this genre, so I can dance the rest of the day/night away. This is also my perfect example of mixing in key before there were even programs designed for DJs. I don't know how I do it, it just happens from time to time. This week we have the pleasure of welcoming AKIVA to the roster, giving us a sultry selection of deep-end sounds, enjoy! -- Follow @akiva_official www.instagram.com/akiva.wav -- "The artist formerly known as The Kid Inside, AKIVA is a melodic house and techno producer/DJ/live act based in Los Angeles producing and curating music inspired by the progressive house scene of the early 2000s. Topping Beatport charts with music on U.K. underground labels Deepdowndirty and Gibbon Records and the progressive U.K. powerhouse, Pro B Tech Records. Resident on Saturo Sounds with a monthly radio and podcast series, and Identity Presents - the premier LA-based event curator, hosting and playing with Modus, Galestian, Cid Inc, Miyagi, and Dave Seaman. 2021 saw Akiva assume the role of A&R for the Saturo Sounds label imprint, releasing the "Sounds of Saturo, Vol. 2" compilation. Charting at #7 in the Melodic House and Techno, #4 in both Progressive and Organic House, #1 in Breaks, and number #4 Overall charts. Closing out the year with the #1 Progressive House release thereafter. Akiva started his journey through music with Jaco Pastorius. The rhythmically diverse and bass-driven fusion style, presented to him by his father and uncle's jazz records, prompted his purchase of an Ibanez bass guitar. Along with jazz, he developed a love of smooth tenor and alto saxophones and string sounds of the violin and viola through his love of classical music. While he was jamming out to heavy metal and classic rock in high school, Akiva discovered electronic music on NYC's KTU station. Akiva immediately started playing progressive and goa-psytrance songs with his friends at parties. House and techno music were still considered underground at that time. As the scene grew, both in NYC and abroad, he spent waking hours adding to his music collection and refining his production skills. He joined Symbiotik Collective in the Mexican southeast, promoter and collective of Dj's, which has presented national talents such as Métrika, Robbie Akbal, Balcazar & Sordo, Métrika, Ramiro Puente, Bastard Love to mention a few. In 2015 he returned to his hometown, forming part of the Dj's / Residents team at the Social Miscelanea Nocturna bar. Als waschechter Mexikaner ist ihm die Vielseitigkeit seines Sounds gewissermaßen in die Wiege gelegt worden. Zum Glück hat er einen Kanal dazu gefunden, um dies musikalisch auszunutzen. Und wie. Ich begrüße 'Robbie Akbal‘, einem Veteranen der Houseszene in Mexiko. Wie so gut jeden Künstler der elektronischen Tanzmusik verschlug es Robbie auch nach Berlin. Als Gründer des angesehenen Labels Akbal Music machte er zusammen mit seinen Produktionen auf sich aufmerksam, um von keinem Geringeren als Damian Lazarus signiert zu werden. Mittlerweile steht er bei einigen hoch angesehenen Labels wie Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, Culprit, Kindisch, Sol Selectas, Selador und No.19 unter Vertrag. Seine Musik wurde kürzlich unterstützt von: Anja Schneider, John Digweed, M.A.N.D.Y. + viele weitere, um nur einige zu nennen. Zudem hat er hat im Studio mit vielen Szenegrößen und Giganten wie Audiofly, Kiki, Dance Spirit, Shall Ocin und mit erstaunlichen Sängern wie Cari Golden und Shawni gearbeitet. Zudem wurden seine Produktionen unter Anderem von Luca Bacchetti, Sascha Dive, Andre Homenn, Inxec, Grant Dell, Metrika geremixed. Neben dem Produzieren ist Robbie natürlich auch als DJ weltweit ständig unterwegs. Im großen und ganzen hat er eigentlich schon jede Metropole der Welt bespielt. Tendenz steigend. Für unseren Blog hat sich Robbie die Zeit genommen einen exklusiven Podcast aufzunehmen, indem er seine Version der Afterhour kreiert. So verwundert es auch nicht, wenn ich euch vorneweg verrate ( Achtung Spoiler!!!), dass das Set eine bunte Mischung aus verschiedenen Stilrichtungen geworden ist, welches aber durchweg dem verspielten, hypnotischen und teils entspannten Überbau treu bleibt. Dazu alles in einem gemächlichen Mid-tempo aufgenommen. Ein Sound der gut das wechselhafte Wetter abbildet und unglaublich viel Spaß beim Hören macht. This years compilation has been lovingly curated by our team to present a diverse selection, mixing the underground touch of berlin here and there, the sweet warmth of a vocal track like Alex Dimou’s, ‘This Time’, feat Black Soda, and always maintaining a careful dynamic balance and consistency throughout. Sandeman’s ‘No More Conversations’ weighs one end of the scale with a satisfying peak time thriller, alongside Roland Leesker’s own floor banger, ‘My Warehouse’. Tracks like martínek’s ‘She Bad’ operate a bit more relaxed, or ‘1141’ from George Vala, a fully functional flight into a higher realm. Robbie Akbal and Muk.ti team up and create a stellar low-down-groover, ‘Every Retreat’. Sunny open air tracks like the Daniel Dubb’s mix of ‘Everything You Got’ by m.O.N.R.O.E. are to be found as well. R+R even makes an appearance with another highly charged track, ‘L’essentiell’, keeping the tempo up in a fantastic way. This time we call on acts like Mark Deutsche & Musoê, Wouter de Moor, Tom Peters & AudioKode, BOg & Andrea Ljekaj, Gabe, Simon Baker & Luca Cazal and more to show us the way. With more than a few different flavors to choose from, first up is Franca & Stomax with ‘Bells Kitchen’, a beautiful track with plenty of melodic atmosphere and a beautifully cool vibe to lead us into autumn. Robbie Akbal and Aidan Lavelle take it from there with ‘Me Myself My 303’, an upbeat tech-house track with 303 synths and a nice organic groove. Moving on, Italian-based Retsu drops his fantastically dark ‘Sweet Happens!’; a beautifully manicured track that never oversteps its bounds, keeping the energy evolving and consistent. Tom Peters & AudioKoDe team up for ‘Keep Up’. The duo create a dark track with plenty of bass kick for the late night dancefloors in nearly any club. The time has come once again for another edition of Get Physical Music Presents: Essentials. This time mixed & compiled by Mexico’s Robbie Akbal, who’s been at it since 1993, and recently began turning the heads of Audiofly, Laurent Garnier, Jay Tripwire, and of course M.A.N.D.Y. among others. Robbie’s selection includes Anja Schneider’s ‘Stay Quiet (Dub Version), as well the still fresh ‘And Forever’ form German Brigante feat. Thomas Gandey. He ends the mix in a big way with M.A.N.D.Y. & Booka Shade’s ‘Home (Kolletiv Turmstrasse – Interstellar Mix)’, leaving us on a high note and definitely craving more.
