SHOW NOTES: On this show…we are trying to achieve a balance between open-mindedness and firm beliefs as we navigate the middle ground. Staying true to your convictions is one position you can take but how does that stance affect the way you embrace new ideas and differing opinions? Ever feel like you're walking a mental tightrope, trying to keep an open mind while staying true to what you believe? It's like trying to balance on a seesaw with a curious toddler on one end and a stubborn goat on the other—challenging, unpredictable, and sometimes a little funny in hindsight. In this episode, we're exploring how to navigate the middle ground between welcoming new ideas and standing firm in your values. We'll tackle the fear of being too easily swayed, the risks of being stuck in your ways, and that frustrating paralysis that comes from overthinking it all. Let's dive in, find our balance, and discover how to approach life's challenges with curiosity and confidence. Let's make sure we all understand the definition of Open-Mindedness: The willingness to consider new ideas and perspectives. Misconception: Being open-minded means accepting everything without question. Feel risky? If so, you might have fear around: Losing your identity. Being coerced into decisions you wouldn't normally make. The slippery slope of “people-pleasing” or over-compromise. I hear you—it's exhausting trying to make sense of the conflicting messages we're bombarded with daily. “Stand your ground!” but “Embrace diverse ideas.” “If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!” yet “You're narrow-minded if you don't change your mindset to fit everyone else's.” Whoa, slow down! Where do we even start? For me, it's all about a multi-pronged approach. I pray, listen to my heart, try to see the bigger picture, and seek knowledge—always in that order. I trust myself, but let's be real, I don't know everything, and I can't navigate life's challenges alone. When I feel that pressure or tension to believe something or act a certain way, I take a step back and ask, “Why?” Why am I feeling this way? This simple pause keeps me from rushing into conclusions or making impulsive decisions. Here's the thing: I think many of us adopt an idea and fiercely protect it before we've really researched or tested it. It's human nature to want to feel confident and certain, but what if we took a moment to explore, question, and truly understand? That's where real balance and growth begin. At Psychology Compass I found how you have to Contradict yourself to become more open-minded On Forbes, Dr. Alice G. Walton offers 7 Science-Backed Methods To Get You Out Of Your Head On The Table's YouTube channel, I found Changing Your Mind: Virtue or Vice. So what happens when you find yourself in this overwhelming push/pull situation in your thinking? What causes it and how do we overcome it? Fear of Making the “Wrong” Decision or Offending Others The Issue: Many of us freeze at the thought of making a decision that might upset someone or turn out to be a mistake. This fear can be paralyzing, leading to second-guessing or endless deliberation. How to Overcome It: Embrace the idea that no decision is ever truly final—most can be adjusted or revisited. Shift your mindset from “right vs. wrong” to “learning and growing.” Instead of aiming for perfection, aim for progress. Being Stuck in Indecision Due to Conflicting Inner Voices The Issue: One part of you says, “Stay safe and stick to what you know,” while another whispers, “Take a risk and explore new possibilities.” This inner tug-of-war can leave you immobilized. How to Overcome It: Practice tuning into each voice without judgment. Ask yourself, “What's the worst-case scenario? What's the best-case scenario?” Write these down and weigh the options. Sometimes seeing your thoughts in writing can bring clarity. Here are some more practical ways to break free: 1. Pause and Reflect Without Judgment When faced with pressure or indecision, step back and take a breather. Don't rush into action or self-criticism. Use simple tools like deep breathing, journaling, or a quiet walk to clear your head. 2. Set Boundaries: Know When to Listen and When to Step Away Not every conversation or input requires your full engagement. If external opinions are overwhelming you, give yourself permission to politely step back. A simple, “Thank you for sharing—I need some time to think this through,” can go a long way. 3. Practice Mindful Decision-Making Approach decisions with intentionality. Focus on what aligns with your values and goals rather than what pleases others. Break larger decisions into smaller steps to make them feel less daunting, and celebrate each small step forward. CHALLENGE: Pause and reflect the next time you feel pulled in opposite directions—take a moment to tune into your heart, weigh your values, and explore new perspectives without judgment. Commit to standing firm in what matters most to you while staying open to growth, knowing that true balance is found in the space between. I Know YOU Can Do It!

This week the team dives into the question of whether faith and science contradict each other. The idea that faith and science oppose each other has grown in popularity, but is that really true? Do we have to choose between faith and science or can they be compatible? How do we address popular scientific theories such as evolution and the age of the earth? How do we engage with people who disagree on these subjects?

Question: Though I've read your excellent discussions on eternal security, I still need understanding of the following Scriptures—Romans 11:21-22: “...if thou continue in His goodness” sounds conditional; Colossians 1:22-23, “If ye continue in the faith…” ditto; Hebrews 3:6, 14 have the same idea; 2 Peter 2:20-22 speaks of those who have “escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord…and who were washed…being entangled again and overcome.” If these apparent contradictions could be covered in a future “Q&A,” it would be greatly appreciated.Response: The New Testament contains frequent exhortations to godly living, to “continue in the faith” and to “hold fast the confidence firm unto the end” (Hebrews 3:6, 14) and to “walk worthy of the Lord” (Ephesians 4:1; Colossians 1:10), and warns of being “cut off” (Romans 11:22).The exhortation is to two classes of people: (1) Those who are false professors, in order to show them that their lives demonstrate that they do not truly know the Lord; and (2) Christians who are living in disobedience, to warn them that if they continue to dishonor their Lord, He will severely discipline them. The latter could be “cut off” from fellowship with other believers, or from this life....

Send us a textWe sit down with New Testament scholar Dr. Michael Licona ( @MikeLiconaOfficial ) to discuss his book Jesus, Contradicted: Why the Gospels Tell the Same Story Differently. Dr. Licona tackles one of the most common objections to the reliability of the Gospels: their apparent discrepancies. Instead of forcing strained harmonizations, Licona explains how the Gospels fit within the genre of ancient biography, allowing for narrative flexibility. He compares the Gospel accounts with the works of Plutarch and other ancient sources, showing how common literary techniques of the time account for differences in reporting. We'll also explore how these differences align with the doctrines of divine inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture. Don't miss this fascinating conversation that brings clarity to the complexities of the Gospel narratives!Book: https://a.co/d/5qw5mzB

A recent reddit thread was posted with apparent proof that the DOD has been controlling what UAP information is released to the public and just how FOIA releases them. What can be done about this if anything? Kristian Harloff discusses.
Kellen Moore gave an answer at his press conference yesterday that flies in the face of something our head coach told us last season.
Two events in recent history share a common thread. The White House loudly declares the 31st of March to be the Transgender Day of Visibility, and on Easter nonetheless. Not long before, an Obama appointed Judge adheres to the Second Amendment, but for a man who entered the United States Illegally. What do these two events have in common? Strategy. The news that a Judge appeared to side with the Second Amendment when it came to a man who entered the United States illegally divided Gun Culture. However, this is unlikely a simple divide and conquer strategy. Not long after, the attempt to promote a queer holiday, not directly in place of a Christian holiday, either opted to replace it, or something more nefarious. It illustrates a worldview that treats either Christianity or Queer as a religion, relegating the other to a mere fashion statement. Not to be mistaken as a mere misuse of terms, this episode delves into both events, and illustrates the possible strategy of both, inspired by a theology of self worship. In a courtroom showdown marked by fiery exchanges and allegations of misconduct, the defense team for Karen Read asserted on Tuesday that a federal expert's analysis contradicts Massachusetts prosecutors' claims regarding the death of Boston police officer John O'Keefe. The case, which has captured widespread attention, centers on Read's alleged involvement in O'Keefe's killing during a snowstorm in 2022. Read, who has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges, maintains her innocence, asserting that she is being framed and is a victim of a cover-up orchestrated by authorities. As arguments unfolded during a hearing at Norfolk Superior Court in Dedham, the defense levied accusations of prosecutorial misconduct against the Norfolk District Attorney's office, intensifying the legal battle. The crux of the defense's argument revolves around the findings of a federal reconstruction expert, whose investigation challenges the prosecution's narrative. Defense attorney Alan Jackson revealed in court that the expert's analysis concluded that there was no evidence to suggest that O'Keefe was struck by an SUV, as alleged by the prosecution. "The federal investigators hired... a professional reconstructionist... to look into exactly this issue," Jackson stated. "Their conclusion, to a person, was his injuries were inconsistent with the damage on the car... In other words, the car didn't hit him, and he wasn't hit by the car." Jackson further contended that personal relationships between individuals residing at the crime scene and responding police officers compromised the integrity of the case, casting doubt on the reliability of the evidence presented by the prosecution. Prosecutor Adam Lally pushed back against the defense's assertions, accusing them of attempting to obscure the facts. Describing their approach as "defense by obfuscation," Lally emphasized the substantial evidence presented to the grand jury, which allegedly implicates Read in O'Keefe's death. "What the defense is obfuscating from is the overwhelming evidence... which clearly demonstrate[s] that the defendant, Karen Read, killed John O'Keefe," Lally asserted. Despite the impassioned arguments from both sides, the judge refrained from issuing a ruling on the defense's motions, opting to deliberate further. Originally slated to commence on Tuesday, the trial has been rescheduled for April 16, allowing for additional time for legal proceedings to unfold. As the legal battle ensues, the case continues to garner public scrutiny, with the quest for justice for John O'Keefe and the truth surrounding his death remaining at the forefront of attention. The outcome of the ongoing courtroom drama promises to shape the trajectory of Read's fate and the broader implications for the criminal justice system. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? We read the Bible because we are looking for answers. Why? Because over time people have had confidence in the validity of its Truth. However, that is not as much the case today. In a recent video that went viral, progressive Christian minister Brandan Robertson claimed that the problem with evangelicalism is that it focuses too much on the teachings of Paul and not enough on the teachings of Jesus. Robertson went on to claim that Paul even contradicts Jesus on a number of important points, and that when that happens, we should go with the teachings of Jesus instead of Paul's. What Robertson said was not unique. Rather, it is a common claim within the movement of progressive Christianity. In this episode, we discuss Robertson's specific claims and why we believe a number of things that he says are misleading or outright false. We also explore some of the tenants of progressive Christianity more generally and discuss how tethering ourselves to the historic Christian tradition helps us from coming up with innovative ways to arrive at old heresies. Habakkuk chapter two. Full disclosure: It's a challenging chapter. Here at The Ridge, we are committed to teaching through the Bible in its entirety. Because if we don't know the hard parts, we don't know the whole story. Habakkuk chapter two centers on two words: discipline and wrath. We'll examine the Biblical definitions of these words, what they mean and how all of this applies to us today. One of the dangers we can fall into in reading the Bible is reading it selectively. We dwell on the passages we are comfortable with and ignore those that raise questions and challenge us. In particular, passages that deal with God's wrath and judgement take a back seat to famous verses like John 3:16. So how do we go steer away from selective reading of the Bible and engage with every part as the inspired word of God?
