In an innovative move to address a persistent homelessness issue, the City of Oakland has partnered with a local business owner to erect a barrier of shipping containers at a property located at 4200 Alameda Ave., right next to the High Street Home Depot. The project aims to resolve a years-long encampment problem that has plagued the area, despite numerous attempts to clear the land.Workers began stacking the containers a few days ago. Jeff Alberto, the owner of Oakland Container Services, explained the plan to fortify the area."We're lining from the start of the freeway all the way down to the end of the street here. [Each shipping container is] 40 feet long, 8 feet wide, and about 6,000 pounds," Alberto said.

It's time to welcome Tony back to the show, and as part of his grand re-entrance, it seems Billy has pranked him. Then, Dan, Stugotz, and (parts of) the Shipping Container praise Donald Trump for two initiatives it turns out they agree with... Guess who finally broke out of the echo chamber? Plus, Tony delivers his Top 5 Miami Smells, the crew questions what cocaine smells like, and Roy makes an all-time mistake with his pronunciation of the word "arepas." Then, the difference between the Chiefs and Eagles in the trenches, the joy America felt watching the Chiefs lose, and the biggest white cornerback moment of all-time. How is Stugotz looking at the trade that just happened between the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks as a "nothing trade" when Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis have now swapped franchises? Then, is it possible that LeBron didn't know this trade was on the way? Also, what is the appropriate timeline for a GM to be focused on for his or her franchise? Katie tells us about what it's been like to rekindle her sports fandom after stepping away from sports media for over a year, what the podcast plans to focus on with its guests, and she determines which Tight End would be easiest to kill. Mike is infuriated by the Miami Heat after Jimmy Butler has demanded to be traded, Billy is angry with the Dolphins after they failed to make the playoffs and issued a statement that they'll be keeping both Mike McDaniel and Chris Grier all while Tyreek Hill seems to be on his way out, but at least Roy gets to be happy with his Florida Panthers. Today's cast: Dan, Stugotz, Izzy, Chris, Jeremy, Jessica, and Tony. Dan made a huge mistake yesterday: NOT exploring more within Jessica and her dad's relationship while watching Notre Dame games together. Dan and the crew examine every ounce of what the Smetana household is like on a gameday against USC including singing alma maters, throwing Christmas ornaments, and breaking televisions. Then, Stugotz leaves to go talk to the QB who beat Miami this weekend, Dan is frustrated with the Shipping Container for rummaging through gifts sent to the studio for him, and, despite our best efforts, we end up discussing the College Football Playoff AGAIN. Plus, the Miami Heat blew out LeBron and the Los Angeles Lakers. Izzy and Jeremy discuss whether this was more about the Lakers ineptitude or Tyler Herro and the Heat figuring some things out. Today's cast: Dan, Stugotz, Chris, Billy, Lucy, and Mike. After four days of football over the holiday weekend, Dan asks Stugotz and the Shipping Container where to begin. The crew begins by diving into strange kicker stats inspired by Justin Tucker's continued struggles. Then, flag planting caused fights all across College Football this weekend. While Mike is frustrated by both flag planting and upside down hand signals, Dan finds the fights to be a "natural escalation" of college kid behavior in intense rivalries and Lucy finds it all kind of funny. Plus, Billy dismisses all of Europe, Sir Big Spur and the Cock Commander, the "worst 11-1 team of all-time," and how the Texans should feel after knocking out Trevor Lawrence in their win over the Jaguars. Also, after the Dolphins loss in the cold on Thanksgiving, who's to blame? Did Tua do enough to change narratives? Is it more about Chris Grier or Mike McDaniel? And will you join us to see if they can keep their season alive at our Sunday Service presented by Smirnoff? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
We know it's a football Monday, but Jeremy pointed out a Shohei Ohtani stat to Dan about his 3rd unanimous MVP Award that must be discussed. Is Chris Cote's idea for an Ohtani podcast with Nikola Jokic the best or worst idea ever? Then, Billy claims Jason Kelce may have gotten one over on his brother Travis, and the crew bullies Dan into joining the show's Listener League. Plus, friend of the show Mike Schur and his muse Ted Danson join Dan, Stu, and the Shipping Container to discuss their new show "A Man On The Inside." Schur and Danson discuss the origins of the show, their partnership in making television, how to measure success in the modern age, what they both do when shows are released, and how they pick their projects, but don't worry, we saved time for Schur to get infuriated over the Miami Heat. Today's cast: Dan, Stugotz, Amin, Chris, Billy, Izzy, and Jeremy. Dan is stuck on the causeway on his way to work, so Stugotz and Amin kick things off with the Shipping Container. Did you know Delta is going to be serving Shake Shack on flights out of Boston? Then, Jeremy, who is dressed as The Tin Man, gets kicked out before the show even starts as the crew begins discussing Jay Leno "falling down a hill" outside of his hotel. Amin has some reckless speculation on Leno's fall, and the rest of the crew wonders whether or not it's time to take Leno's keys, so Billy has an idea to save Leno from himself. Plus, Dan has finally arrived, and it's time for a conversation about Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers struggles and their team meeting after their loss to the Miami Heat. We kick off Hour 2 by finding out that Jerry Seinfeld -- yes, that Jerry Seinfeld -- watched a product made by Meadowlark Media. Congratulations, crew! We did it! Then, who can out-tough the tough teams of toughness in the AFC tough North of the tough Ravens and tough Steelers? The Dallas Cowboys have gone down 20+ in 5 straight games at home, and things seems to be falling apart. Rex Ryan went after Micah Parsons for his criticism of Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy, but did Ryan even know or understand the context of Parsons' comments? Dan, Stu, Greg and the Shipping Container break it down. Then, it's time for Lucy, Izzy, and Billy to deliver their against the spread picks before learning that Greg Cote has no idea how to invoice Meadowlark Media even if he wanted to. Plus, Ron Magill is here, and he IS horsin' around. Ron explains why horses in trailers are sort of like humans flying in planes, hoof care, branding of horses, their dental care, and Greg's horse syndicate. He also loses his mind on LSU for their handling of Tigers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Kevin Durant and Stephen A. Smith got into a heated exchange, and Joel Embiid shoved a columnist after evoking Embiid's family in a column calling him disappointing. Dan and the Shipping Container are asking the important questions today like, "When did the Internet start?" Then, give that man his strawberries, tipping in a cashless society, and bananas are strawberries if you don't question it. Plus, despite being furious over a slight delay in the start of the segment, David Samson and Adnan Virk join the show to discuss the World Series and why people should buy into the hype while being disrupted by talk of kidney beans and traveler's checks. They chat with Dan, Stu, and the Shipping Container about the excellence of the Celtics, why the Knicks are discouraged, and Ray Allen's connection to Boston vs. Miami. We also take a look at a moment between Charlotte and a Celtics fan outside the arena and learn why Amin has done this entire segment in his Obama voice. Then, are we allowed to enjoy the Bronny James debut? Do we have to be cynical about it? Can we enjoy LeBron's love for his family? Do you believe he's a caring father? Is it all just a Nike commercial? Plus, why were the Celtics not respected for their obvious greatness? Are they just difficult to fall in love with? Learn more about your ad choices.
