Another special session in the recurring “Performances” series featuring past guests, and a condensed versions of the original sessions, with song set-ups and stories, and live acoustic performances from Wild Woods Blue. This time not only a musician's musician, but a total people's choice player. Ottawa raised, Toronto based, Steve Marriner has been a blues harmonica player since the age of 11, and was just 13 and playing clubs, and only 14 when he won the Ottawa Blues Harp Blow-Off! In short, he's a monster player, but not just blues harp, but also guitar, bass, organ, and and he's a helluva singer and songwriter, and record producer/mixer too. We get into that a bit, in this performance focused cut of Steve's original album special session with Jeff, celebrating the release of his 2021 album Hope Dies Last. Steve delivers 3 live performances and talks about his evolving tastes and growth through listening and learning. Enjoy this 29 minute version of the original session.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

David Gogo knows the blues. And so does his song writing. His guitar. And his sharp-witted lyrics that relates as easily as it breaks your heart. “All of my life has been the same, and I ain't never, never gonna change,” Gogo whiskey sips over slide guitar on “Never Gonna Change”, the lead track from his 2021 release, Silver Cup. And it's a set up to an old-fashioned, yarn-spinning story of life from the hard side of the tracks, but the commitment to leaning into what's created of you. “I was listening to my vinyl albums, going down rabbit holes on the internet, reading biographies of musicians, and playing my many guitars and just feeling the energy of so much great music,” Gogo says. Serving up his sixteenth full-length album, Gogo knows a thing or two about laying it all on the railroad ties of truth. This album, birthed of a global shutdown pandemic, is a passion project penned acoustically alongside long-time friend and producer, Steve Marriner. Gogo says he utilized the downtime the pandemic provided to delve deep into his heritage; Silver Cup becoming the liner notes of his history. Dave Hause, Sandy SheetsRod Gator, For LouisianaDar Williams, You Give It All AwayCountry Westerns, Wall of DeathJames McMurtry, What's the MatterWanda Jackson, Big BabyEmily Duff, Another GoodbyeCruzados, She's AutomaticThe Record Company, Out Of My HeadLoveland Duren, Within Crying DistanceWillie Nile, The Day The Earth Stood StillSteve Marriner, Honey BeeThe Georgia Thunderbolts, Can I Get A WitnessJason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Sad But TrueVisita nuestro Facebook y déjanos tus peticiones, comentarios, canciones...O escríbenos un email aquí.

Steve Marriner is our special guest this week on Mulligan Stew. We know Steve from the award-winning Monkey Junk and the very popular Manx Marriner Mainline. He's a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Hope Dies Last is his second solo album. His first was in 2006. (He's been just a tad busy) HDL has 15 musicians in the credits..so it's a true group effort. And signals great things ahead in his solo career. If you remember our Greg Keelor solo album Episode #152 it was Greg who raved about working with guitarist Jimmy Bowskill. (Sheepdogs. Jim Cuddy) Steve Marriner worked tirelessly with Jimmy to get these songs sounding just right. Have a listen and let the stories flow.

Ottawa-based band MonkeyJunk  plays a blend of swamp-rock roots and blues that in the relatively short time has earned them a collective 20 Maple Blues Awards, two Canadian Independent Music Awards, a Blues Music Award (USA), and a JUNO Award in 2012.   Monkey Junk is three musicians who individually had established careers prior to forming MonkeyJunk: vocalist, baritone guitarist, harmonica and organ player Steve Marriner, lead guitarist Tony D and drummer/percussionist Matt Sobb.  We are delighted that they will join us on Music FridayLive! this week with their new album, Moon Turn Red. The strands formed in 2011 bring a genre-defying sound they like to call Artisanal.  Thoughtful and provocative lyrics dominate, carried by a piano with a subdued drum and sophisticated guitar grooves.  The result is almost jazz, but not quite – the Strands straddle the line between jazz and pop.  Lead singer Amanda Campbell delivers original material  - much of it written by the band's keyboard and piano artist Susan Ferrari - with a smooth voice, backed by the legendary Richard Green on lead guitar, Ferrari on piano and keys and the founder of the group, Paul, on bass.  Restrained, thoughtful, striking, the Strands stand out and we are glad they are taking the time to talk with us on Music FridayLive!.
