Super excited to post this fun, entertaining and informative chat with LEE AARON as we go deep into her entire career. A recent inductee into CANADA'S WALK OF FAME, she is one of Canada's most iconic vocalists; a songwriter, producer, and fearless re-inventor. Our chat includes how, at the age of 19, she released her first album THE LEE AARON PROJECT and how in 1984 she wrote METAL QUEEN which solidified her as a trailblazer for women in rock. Over the years it has become an enduring anthem of empowerment for men and women alike. We then chat about how Aaron went on to work with producers like BOB EZRIN (Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd) and PETER COLEMAN (Blondie, Pat Benatar), with stories about later releases 1989's BODYROCK and 1991's SOME GIRLS DO, which both reached MULTI-PLATINUM status and included chart-toppers like “Whatcha Do To My Body” and “Hands On.” She's shared stages with Heart, Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Sinead O'Connor, Mötley Crüe, Van Morrison, and more. Eighteen albums into her illustrious career, including 10 JUNO nominations, Aaron was also honoured with a permanent star on the ARTS WALK OF FAME in her former hometown (Brampton) for her contribution to Canadian Music. After a long hiatus to raise her family and a successful venture into jazz, our chat continues about how Aaron blazed back onto the scene in 2016 with the FIRE and GASOLINE and DIAMOND BABY BLUES, garnering rave reviews. I had the honour of co-managing her at this time with long time manager Pierre Paradis. With a wealth of new original material, she has since released another 5 albums, all of which she self-produced: a Christmas album, a live album and 3 studio albums: RADIO ON! (2021), ELEVATE (2022) and her latest release TATTOO ME (2024) [all recorded with Sean Kelly (guitar), John Cody (drums) and Dave Reimer (bass), who will be on tour doing dates in Canada and Europe this summer].

This week, a very good example of the wide range of artists in the Famous Lost Words archives… First up is a collection of early ‘70s conversations with Crosby, Stills & Nash, where David, Stephen and Graham cover the entire history of the group. Plus, maybe Tom's worst interviewing moment when Stephen Stills takes him to task for asking what we thought was a reasonable question. That's this week on When Rock Stars Attack! Plus, the excellent story behind one of the best hits of the ‘70s – from an important band that preceded CSN. It's a story of intrigue and double-cross and it's also pretty funny And we have an early ‘80s chat with reggae legend Peter Tosh – as he talks about working with Mick Jagger as well as the importance of marijuana to his religion, his creative process and his life. And we close out the show with a really fun new chat with Canadian rocker Lee Aaron – who has come a very long way since her Metal Queen days. We talk about her career, the fine line between promotion and exploitation and how she felt being inducted into Canada's Walk Of Fame just a few weeks ago. Tom & Christopher also talk about the band breakups that affected them the most. Christopher's answer was both unexpected and frankly hilarious! Famous Lost Words, hosted by Christopher Ward and Tom Jokic, is heard in more than 100 countries worldwide and on radio stations across Canada, including Newstalk 1010 Toronto, CJAD 800 Montreal, 580 CFRA Ottawa, AM 800 CKLW Windsor, 610 CKTB St Catharines, CFAX Victoria, AM1150 Kelowna and 91x in Belleville. It is in the Top 20% of worldwide podcasts based on the number of listeners in the first week.
We meet exceptional British Columbians making the world a better place. Candace Knoll, Jr. Black Achievement Society president, tells us what motivates her with her work. Former CFL player and current coach and manager of Game Ready Fitness Will Loftus joins us to tell us about his work as a coach, mentor and volunteer. And trailblazer musician Lee Aaron has a fascinating conversation with guest host Amy Bell about her journey through the male-dominated rock music world of the 1980's and 1990's--inspiring other musicians and blazing a new path for herself in today's music environment.
I've loved chatting with all my amazing guests this year, but for our Season 3 finale, this one is extra special. DEREK SHULMAN was the lead singer of my favourite band GENTLE GIANT. They, along with YES and GENESIS (among others), were pioneers known for the complexity and sophistication of their music. Our chat covers Gentle Giant's entire 11 studio album career, with stories about their beginnings, hanging out with Elton John, working with Producer Tony Visconti, opening for Black Sabbath and headlining big arenas in Quebec. After leaving Gentle Giant, Derek became one of the most successful music executives of all time! Next season will open with PART 2 of our conversation where Derek shares about signing BON JOVI as VP of Polygram, and AC/DC, BAD COMPANY, PANTERA and DREAM THEATRE as the President of Atco/Warner in the US. As President of indie label Roadrunner, Derek went on to attain powerhouse status for the label by signing NICKELBACK and SLIPKNOT. The Talk Music Podcast features host Tom Treumuth, a Multi-Platinum music producer/manager/entrepreneur. The focus is on both Canadian and Global music commentary. This week's Talk Music Podcast features a really interesting chat with BARRY BERGMAN, a highly respected song expert who has published over 250 songs by major artists such as CHER, KISS, JOAN JETT, MICHAEL BOLTON and many others, including hits for hard rockers LEE AARON, HELIX and US act KIX where their ballad DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES sold 2 million copies. He's also had a worldwide TOP 10 hit with DON'T SHED A TEAR by Paul Carrack and signed AC/DC to their first publishing deal for North America. He then discovered and signed MEATLOAF where he was also responsible for breaking the single “Two Out of Three Ain't Bad” from the Bat Out of Hell album, one of the biggest selling albums of all time on the Sony/Epic label. Barry then founded, and was president of, the INTERNATIONAL MANAGERS FORUM (later renamed to MMF) which now has chapters all around the world including Canada. As president, he was instrumental and successful in helping lobby the US government for change to certain music related intellectual laws. I really found Barry's life fascinating as he simply wouldn't take NO for an answer as he made his path through the complexities of the music industry as a publisher, manager and overall music consultant. In my opinion, his keen knowledge of the music business is second to none. Listen to the podcast to find some info about seminars he puts on a few times a year where he talks about how to be successful in a now DIY industry where you need to market and promote yourself properly and he will also critique your songs. In 2018, Barry was inducted into the PERSONAL MANAGERS HALL OF FAME in Las Vegas. Enjoy with song clips throughout the podcast of some of Barry's successes.
On this week's podcast, I'm thrilled to welcome GARTH RICHARDSON and JOE PRIMEAU, two fantastic producer/engineers (and friends of mine) from the past. Garth's legendary producer dad JACK RICHARDSON mentored me, so we both chat about his influence. We also talk about how Garth, after landing in LA, ended up producing RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's monster debut album, which sold 15 million copies, and who were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Some of his other clients include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne, Rise Against, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Big Wreck and the latest album by Devin Townsend (who's track Celestial Signals is featured at the top of this episode). Joe, who moved to LA after engineering at a great studio in Toronto called Phase One and working with me on recording/mixing albums in England/New York, went on to work with some great artists including The Brand New Heavies, Pharcyde, Tower of Power, REO Speedwagon, CHER, and many more.
