What if this season is God’s invitation to rebuild? This week we begin a new sermon series called REBUILD, rooted in Nehemiah 1. It’s a powerful reminder that God is always at work restoring what sin, hardship, or time has broken down. Just like Nehemiah, we’re invited to step forward in faith, trust God’s provision, and begin the work He’s placed before us. Discussion Questions: In verses 1-3, Nehemiah hears about the condition of Jerusalem. What words are used to describe the city and its people, and what do those details tell us about the depth of the brokenness? In verses 4-7, Nehemiah’s first response is prayer. What stands out to you about the tone and content of his prayer? In verses 8-10, Nehemiah appeals to God’s promises to restore His people. Why do you think Nehemiah grounds his prayer in God’s Word and character instead of immediately asking God to fix the problem? Nehemiah is burdened by broken walls and vulnerable people, yet he believes God is able to restore what sin and exile have destroyed. How does Nehemiah’s role here point us forward to Jesus-the One who ultimately comes to rebuild what sin has broken and bring true restoration? Nehemiah ends the chapter preparing to act (v. 11). Where do you sense God might be calling you to move from burden, to prayer, to action in this season as He rebuilds areas of your life?

Beyond that, when we prophetically observe with discernment what is taking place globally, we can clearly see that the gap between today and the end of the age is rapidly narrowing. We are living in some of the final chapters of the book of this age. Wherever the Bible speaks plainly of the Second Coming of Christ, we find close by those verses other verses which place an urgent call on the Christian to get his/her life in line. We have many urgent callings from Heaven that we must not allow to go unanswered. This episode of Truth Shots presents four such callings from Romans Chapter 13 which, when answered by us, leave us prepared and eager for the return of our King. The alarm from Heaven is going off loudly. We dare not hit the snooze button.

This Devotional address with Scott Burton was delivered on March 25th at 11:30 AM MST in the BYU-Idaho I-Center. Scott Burton is a computer science faculty member and the program director of the online software development program offered through BYU-Pathway Worldwide. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Brigham Young University, where his research combined machine learning and health science. Scott also earned a master's degree from Utah State University, a bachelor's degree from BYU, and an associate degree from Snow College. Prior to his time at BYU-Idaho, he worked as a software engineer, where he led teams in developing custom software and web applications for clients. In addition to his work in computer science, Scott enjoys running, cycling, and hiking. He has served in the Church in a number of capacities, including many years with the young men in the Aaronic Priesthood quorums. His favorite calling has been teaching the Sunbeams with his wife. Scott is married to Amber Lee Burton, and they are the parents of four children.
