"Success found in our own strength still leads to burnout!" In this episode, best-selling author, podcast host and national speaker, Rebekah Lyons, shares from her devotional, A Surrendered Yes: 52 Devotions to Let Go and Live Free. Rebekah experienced a lot of fear and anxiety early on in her life but has since discovered that when she fully surrenders to God she finds rest in His peace and strength. Surrender is not a one-time decision, but a slow and steady process of handing things over to God. Oftentimes, the real question we must ask ourselves is, "Do we just want God to fix what we are holding so tightly or are we willing to give what we are holding to Him?" Every time we release control and surrender more to Jesus, we experience His peace and presence in return. { USE PLAYER BAR @ TOP OF PAGE to listen to show, subscribe and share } Important Takeaways from Show The purpose of surrender is to enjoy direct communion with God rather than a specific outcome Surrender is not passive; it is an active decision to release control to God and follow His leading We are prone to always do things ourselves but God has more and better in mind for us When we are afraid of failure we are not trusting God God is near in our sufferings and trials Pain always becomes purpose if we let it Calling is where our talents and burdens collide God is inviting you into something that requires His power "Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him." Romans 6:8 Surrender requires fixing your mind on the Spirit and not on our fleshly desires When we chase what the world offers we are left feeling empty "When our activity ends; [God's] begins" ~ Andrew Murray We've been invited into a great freedom that only comes with surrender We love ourselves by believing in God's love and delighting in what He has created We love others better when we live surrendered to Jesus Loving God requires a surrendered heart and trust in His goodness God did not make a single mistake in how He created you God redeems time and takes back what has been stolen Public affection cannot heal private rejection; we need love over admiration Everything good is costly at some level Put guard rails on your life that require surrender, forcing you to trust and rely on God God's glory is revealed in our weaknesses Nothing that touches your life is outside of God's watch Let go of the known so you can see the unknown Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. ~Luke 10:27 Links from Show DEVOTIONAL: A Surrendered Yes: 52 Devotions to Let Go and Live Free BOOK: Rhythms of Renewal: Trading Stress and Anxiety for a Life of Peace and Purpose PREVIOUS PODCAST: 024: Making the Most of Your Life with Rebekah Lyons | The Living Room Abide In Christ: A 31-Day Devotional for Fellowship with Jesus by Andrew Murray The Christian Atheist: Believing in God but Living As If He Doesn't Exist by Craig Groeschel [Disclosure: I make a small commission from affiliate links used in this post.] Connect with Rebekah Website | Instagram | Facebook | Twitter Connect with Joanna Facebook | Pinterest | Instagram | Twitter Get Episode Updates! November is National Adoption Month, and I'm thrilled to be talking with Rebekah Lyons about adoption, following God's callings, and what a ‘surrendered yes' looks like in each of our lives. And then there's the fact that I'm slightly obsessed with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, and Rebekah (having lived in NYC for several years) tells us all about it. Basically I've reconfirmed my commitment to get there someday very soon! Here are some of the important topics we cover in today's show: The gift of adoption and the many ways God can show us how losing our lives is really gaining true life The three parts of a surrendered yes and what that means in your own life A pivotal question to ask yourself when considering if you're obedient to God's callings I can't wait for you to hear today's show, and, in honor of National Adoption Month, I give you a recent picture of my sweet little one (along with a few links to articles I've written about our adoption journey).

Having open hands and an open heart is one part of A Surrendered Yes: 52 Devotions to Let Go and Live Free, the new book by Rebekah Lyons. A Surrendered Yes is also about living in the now. On today's episode of The Crystal Paine Show, Rebekah and I talk about what it was like for her to have a child diagnosed with Down syndrome, what living a surrendered life looks like, and how God doesn't call you to anything that He won't also give you the strength for. Rebekah and her family have been a huge inspiration to our family as we have stepped out in faith and said yes to adopting Baby D. Watching their family and the journey they have been on and how they have trusted the Lord and lived in surrender to His calling has been such an encouragement to us. If you are struggling to say yes and step out in faith, Rebekah's raw honesty on this episode will infuse you with courage. Don't miss it! In This Episode [00:37] - Welcome to The Crystal Paine Show today we are honored to have a repeat guest, Rebekah Lyons. [03:32] - The great joy in life is to lose your life so that you can find it again. [04:19] - I ask Rebekah what it was like to receive the diagnosis that her firstborn had Down syndrome. [09:44] - "If you could go back to your 26-year-old self when you were walking through this, knowing what you know now, what would you say to yourself?" [12:47] - Rebekah talks directly to the woman who's listening who wants to have that courage but is scared. [15:24] - If you are feeling a nudge or a whisper or something that kind of continues to surface, don't close your hands to it. [17:34] - We talk about what it was like to say yes to adopting Joy. [19:20] - Pay attention to your tears. [23:49] - We segue into talking about answering those people saying "How do you do it?" [28:28] - I ask Rebekah to close by sharing what "letting go and living free" looks like in her life right now. [31:50] - It's not living in tomorrow, it's not living in yesterday. It's living today. Welcome to Season 6 of the Exhale podcast! This season's topic is on surrender. In today's episode, Exhale podcast Host Holly Newton sat down and chatted with Rebekah Lyons about her new book that was released this week.Bestselling author, podcast host and national speaker Rebekah Lyons spent years battling fear, anxiety and panic until she found freedom in surrendering her yes to God. From moving to New York City with young children to adopting a child with Down syndrome from China, Rebekah realized that saying yes to who God says you are in Him, even in the small, ordinary moments of life, can create renewed spiritual vitality. In her new devotional, A Surrendered Yes: 52 Devotions to Let Go and Live Free (Zondervan, September 2021), Rebekah offers readers 52 reflections that will move them from striving and fear into freedom, joy and rest. She shares her own personal rescue journey of healing from anxiety and fear to finding renewed freedom in daily rhythms, and encourages readers to engage their bravest self, knowing that God sustains and upholds them. “The truth is that none of us want give up control,” says Rebekah. “But anything that God calls us to do is going to be beautiful, life-giving and restore our soul. When you read this book, it's not going to be all about massive decisions – moving across country, changing careers, adoption. It's really the small things that when we say yes, we get more armored for the big things. Every time I have said yes, reluctantly fearfully, tearfully, God has given me strength on the other side of yes.” Rebekah Lyons is a national speaker, host of the Rhythms for Life podcast, and bestselling author of Rhythms of Renewal, You Are Free, and Freefall to Fly. If we're being honest with ourselves - the last couple of years have probably gone anything except according to plan. If you have felt that life recently seems like one big exercise of surrender - surrendering of plans, control, work, school - just what life is ‘supposed' to look like, and your dreams are feeling a little lost in the shuffle - then you're in the right place today. Today Mary is joined for a second time by her friend, bestselling author, podcast host and national speaker, Rebekah Lyons. In her new devotional, A Surrendered Yes: 52 Devotions to Let Go and Live Free, Rebekah offers readers 52 reflections that will move them from striving and fear into freedom, joy and rest. On today's episode, Mary and Rebekah head right to the heart of what a surrendered yes actually is, what it looks like, what it feels like, and what is keeping us from it. You know that big, scary dream that you've been feeling like God has been asking you to take a big leap? Mary and Rebekah cover exactly how to stop putting off that decision because they are tackling what is keeping you from making it. The two discuss: How fear of failure shows up in our lives What is means to surrender not only control, but the struggle as well Why you are NOT disqualified; even when that's all you feel How to say yes even when it means to lay down heartbreaking things After listening you will be equipped to: Challenge your mindset when you place yourself on the sidelines before you start Act out your surrendered yes even before you feel like doing so Live life with ease and peace rather than grabbing for control If you're ready to take action on that idea that you can't go a day without thinking about, the one God just keeps giving you those nudges on, then don't miss today's episode!
