In this episode of Fishing Without Bait, counselor and mindfulness guide Jim Ellermeyer takes listeners on a thoughtful and practical journey into the world of inherent truths—the deep personal values and qualities that define who we really are beneath expectations, judgment, and fear. Jim opens the conversation by reminding us that self-discovery isn't about finding a ready-made identity—it's about creating ourselves with honesty, open-mindedness, and a willingness to try. He introduces the idea that inherent truths are fundamental aspects of identity that aren't shaped by outside forces. These truths include qualities like empathy, honesty, dependability, intelligence, and the capacity to learn and love. Through stories, affirmations, and compassionate guidance, Jim breaks down the barriers that commonly derail personal growth: societal pressure, family expectations, fear of judgment, and the tendency to discount our own worth. He encourages listeners to practice “I am confident…” statements to reinforce these inner truths and reclaim ownership of their choices. Listeners also learn practical tools for maintaining emotional grounding, including a powerful breathing exercise: inhale with the word “Let…” and exhale with “…go.” This simple practice helps calm the nervous system and release self-doubt. Jim adds a gratitude ritual—affirming small wins throughout the day with the phrase, “That's a positive.” As always, the episode emphasizes actionable mindfulness: accepting compliments instead of dismissing them, setting boundaries with clarity, exploring what energizes you, and paying attention to the moments that reveal who you really are. Jim closes the episode with an invitation for listeners to share their own inherent truths and continues the show's mission of offering practical, compassionate tools for living purposefully, mindfully, and without definitive expectations.
You want to trust your teen again when they come back from treatment, but every setback and every little misstep can send your mind spiraling back to worst-case scenarios. Luckily, we're joined again by Colin MacDonald from Not Therapy Coaching to explore what it really looks like to parent your teen after treatment, and how to make sure fear doesn't take over. He shares powerful mindset shifts for parents and offers practical ways to focus on what's actually happening, rather than catastrophizing every challenge.I'm so grateful to pick Colin's brain again on this topic, not only because he's worked with countless struggling teens and their families, but also because he once was a struggling teen himself. Having spent time in both wilderness therapy and therapeutic boarding school, Colin brings rare insight and compassion to this conversation. You'll walk away with a fresh perspective on how to rebuild trust with your teen, hold realistic expectations, and keep the momentum of treatment going once they're home.“Treatment is actually the beginning of the journey” - Colin MacDonaldIn this episode on parenting your teen after treatment, we discuss:How to stop your mind from spiraling when your teen slips up;Why rebuilding trust starts with believing in your child's progress; What to do when your teen's behavior triggers old fears; How to identify the core issue instead of turning it into a crisis; The role mentors and community play in lasting growth; Why “more treatment” isn't always the answer; How parents can stay grounded and take care of themselves, too.More about Colin MacDonaldColin is a "former troubled teen" who spent his last two years of high school in wilderness and therapeutic boarding school. Based on his experience, he co-founded Not Therapy to provide peer-to-peer coaching for teens and young adults who feel like therapy hasn't been the right fit or who are transitioning out of therapeutic programs back into the real world. As a young person who has been in his clients' shoes, Colin's approach is rooted in personal expertise.Learn more about Not Therapy on their website or blog, or connect with them on LinkedIn.Looking for support?

In this episode, I'm talking about one of my favorite topics—delegation—and how it connects directly to boundaries. Too often we hold back from delegating because we're afraid someone else will “mess it up” or won't do it the way we would. But here's the truth: by refusing to delegate, weoverload ourselves, limit our growth, and block our team from stepping into their potential.I share insights from a recent presentation I gave at the Louisiana Society of CPAs Women's Conference, along with real examples of how delegation has shaped my own career. You'll hear why fear is the wrong reason not to delegate, how to reframe it as a boundary-setting tool, and why empowering others is key to being a stronger leader. If you've been hesitating to let go of tasks—even the ones you know you shouldn't be doing—this episode will help you flip the script and start small. Because setting boundaries through delegation isn't just about your workload, it's about creating space for everyone to grow.Connect with Melissa on LinkedInLearn about Melissa's Keynote Presentation

Birth doesn't have to be something to fear. I sat down with Lana from Girl, Teach Me to talk about seeing labor as a God-designed process, not an emergency. We covered choosing the right midwife, why changing your mindset around pain is so powerful, and how to respond to people who think you are choosing home birth to get a “trophy”. Whether it's your first baby or your fifth, this episode is full of honest, empowering wisdom for walking into birth with peace! In this episode, we cover: Lana's story: how a college nutrition class sparked her love for birth and led to Girl, Teach Me Birth as normal— not an emergency to fear, but a process designed by God The faith walk of birth that requires releasing control and trusting God each time, no matter the number Choosing your birth team wisely and why the right midwife makes all the difference Power moves and fear tactics— recognizing red flags in medical care Labor predictions that miss the mark: baby size, dilation, and due dates that don't actually mean much A new perspective on pain: working with your body instead of resisting it Birth prep that actually helps: Bradley Method, Ina May, and positive birth stories The realities of the first-time birth and why it often takes longer and feels more intense Things that can go wrong— why skilled midwives know when to transfer, and how most situations are calm and non-emergent How to prepare for postpartum experiences like afterbirth cramps, recovery, and what actually helps (or doesn't) Thoughts on free birth— being prepared either way, but personally valuing the peace of a midwife's presence How Lana included her older children in her birth and what it meant to her daughters Why home birth just makes sense for outcomes, comfort, and family flow Pushing back on comparison— birth choices aren't competitions, and excellence isn't judgment Lana's heart behind creating content for new moms through YouTube, blogging, and her course View full show notes on the blog + watch this episode on YouTube. In today's meditation, we were taken to the River of Life in the ethereal realm. All living souls are in this metaphorical river. When it is time for them to transition, then they simply leave the river and walk up the bank with one of their guides. Today at the River of Life, the archangels were handing out invitations from the Creator. These invitations were an opportunity for folks to choose to end their time in the 3-D realm and transition. This was different from anything we had seen before during our meditations. Divine Mother was there checking off names as people were choosing to remove themselves from the 3-D realm. We do not know if this is symbolic of a mass exodus or an event that might be coming, that would result in a large loss of life. Archangel Michael was clear to remind us that there is no reason to fear death, that when people die they are surrounded with guides and loved ones who have passed on before. What if your guides for the guided meditation had no idea where Spirit was going to be leading them? A recent study done by Cornell University found that 85% of the fears we have *NEVER* materialize, yet the overwhelming majority of people are gripped by fear! Yet for many Christians, fear has an incredible stronghold on their lives. This is especially true when it comes to generosity. Without question, Fear is the number one reason why Christians are *not* generous.

Today host Heather Creekmore delves into the topic of aging and the fear that often accompanies it. She talks about the cultural pressure to stay young, the struggle with body image, and the desire to remain relevant in a society that values youth. Heather shares insights from her new book, "Aging Gratefully," a 30-day devotional for women that covers various aspects of aging, from bodily changes to finding purpose in midlife and beyond. Throughout the discussion, she encourages listeners to consider the biblical perspective on aging and to embrace the reality of getting older with gratitude and trust in God's plan. Heather's discussion spans a range of topics surrounding aging, including the cultural pressures and myths associated with aging, the changing seasons of life, and the fear of becoming irrelevant. She also highlights the biblical perspective on aging, offering a refreshingly positive viewpoint on something our culture points to as negative. One significant topic Heather focused on was the symbolism of graying hair and how it has been distorted by cultural messages. Drawing from Proverbs 16:31, Heather shares how marketers convinced us that gray hair would ruin our lives, but how the Bible tells us that gray hair is a crown of glory, representing wisdom and victory. As we dive into the concept of aging gratefully, Heather challenges us to shift our mindset away from cultural norms and expectations and embrace the unique beauty that comes with every season of life. It's time to let go of fear, so you can manifest the life of your dreams. The universe wants you to see fear for what it is. It's a limitation or an illusion. Why is this fear so strong? What would happen if you let it go? What could you accomplish if you only took a risk? You were not meant to be small. What beliefs are you holding onto about yourself? Do those come from you or someone else? The only opinion that matters is your own. Stop doing what others expect you to do. It's time to be bold. In today's episode I talk about how to blast through your fears so that you can achieve the life of your dreams.
