Episode 21 TITLE Intuition and Knowing Your Worth GUEST Kelly Covert EPISODE OVERVIEW We address the following questions in this episode--What is intuition? Is one’s Inner Voice ever mean or critical? How do you encourage people to get in touch with their intuition? How do we encourage or shut down intuition and communication in kids? We talk about creating meaningful relationships with your children instead of letting rules dictate the relationship. Kelly shares about creating a family mission statement. HIGHLIGHTS Intuition is that inner voice/wisdom We all have intuition It’s a Divine part of who you are We just need to take time to listen to it Intuition is never mean or critical—that’s our ego, which comes from our head How do you encourage people to explore their intuition: Listen to your inner voice Find practices that get us still enough to hear it Journaling (or verbally processing) to get our of your head How do you encourage intuition and communication in kids? Lead by example Ask the right questions Put the relationship before the punishment or judgment How can you tell the difference between intuition and fear? Intuition is never mean Inner mean girls and critical voices are egocentric What’s your superpower as an HSP? If you listen deeply, you can hear other people’s inner voices, and you can help people connect to their inner voice. I have amazing ideas for other people that come to me through Divine Inspiration “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.” What would you tell your younger self? You are enough. You don’t have to try so hard “My inner voice is loving. It knows my worth, and that I am worthy. It guides me. It’s powerful, encouraging and it can show us the error of our ways.” BIO Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping women believe and achieve their big vision by connecting deeply with the wisdom that is inside of them all while owning their worthiness each and every day. My fave moments from this conversation: Understanding our worthiness is there all along...it doesn't grow bigger or diminish and we don't need to try harder. In healing ourselves, we are able to help others heal. When Kelly felt that failing at being a mother felt like failing at being a women and how motherhood felt like just another thing to get an A+ on. The realization that Kelly couldn't change her autistic child but instead, she had to trust and love herself as fully as possible. Knowing when to pick your fights as a parent and perhaps wearing underwear isn't the most important fight to pick! Learning the lesson that when things are not as we expect them to be...is not necessarily a bad thing. And that's just the first 16 minutes or so... This weeks guest shares her long journey to believing that she is enough, just as she is, as a mother. When her first son was born, she struggled with resentment and grief as she felt the pressure to be perfect and knew she couldn't be. Over the years she struggled more and more with her relationship with her son, reaching a point where she felt there was something wrong with her because she didn't want to be around him. It wasn't until years after Kelly's son was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome at age 5 that her turning point came when she began to understand that she had always been conditioned to perform for worthiness and that this had carried over to her experience of being a mother. Learning to let go of perfectionism and her need for control was an important part of her journey, and now Kelly helps others do the same through her coaching work. Kelly gets real about learning how to understand her son's needs and advocate for him, what it's like to embrace imperfection, and how she has stopped "hustling for her worthiness", in the words of Brene Brown. In This Episode: How never feeling like she was good enough as a child led to her becoming addicted to external validation Being imperfect as a mother made her feel like she was failing Being vulnerable can be in sharing of the hard moments of motherhood but also in believing in yourself and letting people see that How her son's Aspergers diagnosis helped Kelly move towards believing she was enough Learning to advocate for her son and teaching him to advocate for himself as he got older The need for more moms to stand up and say "this is freaking hard" Learning not to dismiss our own struggles just because someone else "has it worse" Exploring personality type through The Enneagram A special visualization Kelly does to help conceptualize your inherent worthiness Kelly's year of Intentional Underacheiving Learning to recognize and listen to your inner voice Kelly's invitation to join her private Facebook Group: The Worthy Collective About Our Guest: Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping women lay down their lifelong habits of perfectionism and chronic overachieving, so they can listen to their inner voice and love themselves fully every single day.
