I didn't ease back into minimalism. I got frustrated enough with the amount of stuff in my home that I just started. After almost a decade of living this way, life still caught up with me. A baby joined the picture, a teenager left for college, and the spaces that once felt calm started feeling heavy again. So I followed the frustration. Here are the first five areas I tackled to simplify my home again, including the most embarrassing drawer in our house, how a kitchen declutter turned into pulling cabinet doors off the hinges, and the spatial constraints approach I use for toddler toys that actually keeps things manageable.Grab a spot in my free masterclass, Break the Clutter Cycle!SEE MORE▷ Instagram▷ FREE: Declutter Your First Room Blueprint ▷ FREE: Clutter Roadmap QUIZ▷ The Mind Your Home Podcast on Apple

When I first became a KonMari consultant, I thought I knew exactly what I was helping people do.Clear the piles. Organize the cupboards. Create better systems. Make homes feel calmer and easier to live in.But I quickly began to notice that the process of decluttering and tidying up was bringing up questions, emotions, and realizations that went far beyond the physical stuff.Because clutter is rarely only about what we can see.It can be the unfinished decisions, the mental load, the pressure to keep everything together, and the feeling that your home is constantly asking something from you.So today, I'm taking you back to the beginning of my journey as a home organizer and sharing how my understanding of home organizing has changed over time.In this episode, you'll learn:Why letting go of clutter brings up more than most people expectHow the KonMari Method changed the way I looked at my own homeWhat physical clutter can reveal about your mental load, emotions, and everyday stressWhat emotional clutter really is and why it's often harder to address than the physical messWhy traditional home organization advice can leave people feeling like they are failingWhat it really means to create systems that support you on hard days, not only your best daysWhy decluttering is about creating a calmer, more manageable clutter free home that works for real lifeHow support, community, and small sustainable progress can make the process feel much less overwhelmingIf you've been searching for clutter relief, sustainable progress, and a calm home, this episode is your invitation to finally build a space that supports you. Here's to homes that hold up on the hard days,Caroline

This episode is just satisfying. I've heard from so many of you about how to deal with accumulated stuff. Not just accumulated linens, or too many hair products, but stuff with emotions attached: stuff that's been directed your way (with great import) from relatives, stuff you're trying to sift through when a parent died unexpectedly, or just artifacts from the last few decades of your life that you feel like you should keep (but definitely don't want to, or have space to). Professional organizer (and Culture Study reader) Tara Bremer joins the pod to grapple with so many of your complicated questions, like: What do I do with (very old) photo albums? Like, from the early 1900s? We moved into my Grandparents house and now we have to figure out what to do with boxes and BOXES of old history/Catholic theology books WTF do I do with my My Little Sisters' Vacuum-Sealed Cabbage Patch Dolls WHAT DO WE DO WITH ALL THE CHINA How to subtly tease the messaging between "I don't want this many things in my house" vs. "I don't want this many of YOUR things in my house" Will I regret not holding on to more things as I age? We have such a meaningful discussion about the various forces we encounter when figuring out what to keep and pass on — and, of course, I can't wait to hear your own suggestions (and help with your own conundrums) in the comments. Real Estate Fitness, Keeping your Real Estate Muscle StrongMost homeowners think getting organized means buying more bins.It does not.In this episode of Real Estate Fitness, Katie sits down with a professional organizer to break down what actually creates calm, functional spaces and what secretly adds more clutter. They talk about the difference between decluttering and organizing, where overwhelmed homeowners should start first, and the systems that actually work for busy families who do not have time for constant reset days to prepare for showings. If your home feels tight, chaotic, or heavier than it should, this conversation will help you rethink how you are using your space.Whether you are preparing to sell now or preparing for a future move, organization is not just about aesthetics. It is about how your home functions every single day.Small changes.Smarter systems.Less overwhelm.

Organizing with Ease Podcast

March has a way of making everything feel busier. Schedules shift. The clock moves forward. School events multiply. Work picks up. Travel increases. And suddenly, your home feels harder to manage. In Episode 200 of Organizing with Ease, we're breaking down why busy seasons often lead to clutter, stress, and decision fatigue — and how simple organizing systems can reduce overwhelm immediately. Because clutter is rarely about laziness. It's about friction. And friction happens when your home organization systems no longer match your current season of life. Why Your Home Feels More Overwhelming in March Research shows the average American home contains over 300,000 items. More physical clutter means more visual stimulation — and more cognitive load. Add busy family routines, calendar pressure, and daily decision fatigue, and your home can quickly feel chaotic. In this episode, we explore how to: Reduce stress at home during busy seasonsIdentify hidden friction points in your daily routinesCreate sustainable organizing systems that support real lifeClose open loops that drain mental energyBuild a structure that works even when motivation fadesThe 5 Most Common Home Friction Points If your home feels overwhelming, one of these areas is usually the root cause: 1️⃣ Morning routine systems 2️⃣ Paper and mail organization 3️⃣ Laundry completion habits 4️⃣ Kitchen and meal planning structure 5️⃣ Calendar and schedule management When these systems are unclear, decision fatigue increases — and so does stress. When these systems are aligned, your home feels steady. Key Takeaway You don't need more motivation. You need better systems. Sustainable home organization isn't about perfection — it's about structure that supports your real life. Busy seasons don't create chaos. They expose where your systems need refinement. Thank You for 200 Episodes The first 100 episodes of Organizing with Ease began as shared conversations, laying the groundwork for this community. The next 100 evolved into deeper conversations about decluttering strategies, productivity at home, and sustainable systems. Thank you for being here. There is no Episode 200 without you. If you feel like you're constantly cleaning the same spot in your house — and it never stays fixed — this episode is for you. Why does clutter keep coming back? In this episode, I'm sharing a simple shift that costs almost nothing and has quietly lowered friction in several areas of my home. No overhaul. No expensive organizing bins. Just one small adjustment that makes it easier for things to land where they belong. This idea came from my mom during a recent holiday visit — and I've been slowly applying it ever since in the little “hot-spots” that tend to collect towels, pantry items, homeschool supplies, and bathroom clutter. If you're craving calmer, more intentional days — especially in a full, real-life season — this is a gentle place to start. In today's episode, I'm sharing what a real-life home reset looks like in this season and the simple organizing habits that help me feel more grounded, clear-headed, and less overwhelmed. I talk a lot about organization not as a “perfect system,” but as a way to support your energy, your mental load, and your day-to-day rhythm. When my home feels cluttered, I feel it everywhere. And when I reset my space, even in small ways, everything feels more manageable. This episode is for you if you've been wanting to organize your home but don't know where to start or feel like you never have the time to do it “right.” ✨ In this episode, I share: How I approach organizing during busy seasons What a home reset actually looks like for me (and what I don't do) Simple ways to reset your space without decluttering your entire house The areas of the home that make the biggest impact when I organize them How I let go of perfection and focus on function Why small resets matter more than big overhauls I also touch briefly on a recent Business Ask Me Anything, but this episode is mostly about creating a home that feels calmer, lighter, and easier to live in.

October is awareness month for Breast Cancer and ADHD. Ok yes the blush pink Sunday Basket® color is back in stock (while supplies last). BUT, I want to suggest that you use this Sunday Basket® as a way to remind you of people in your community that have lost someone to breast cancer, are facing a breast cancer diagnosis, are supporting someone in their breast cancer journey, or who have survived breast cancer! It is so important that we continue to take care of ourselves too. Let this Sunday Basket® remind you of your health goals and routine doctor visits to prevent or get early detection of disease. I also want to inspire community and support for the breast cancer awareness community. Be aware of someone who could use your support. And speaking of support, the Sunday Basket® supports those who have ADHD. ADHD is so cool because of the ability to think differently but it really becomes a struggle in organization. We have all these modifications for kids in school but where is it in the real world once they've graduated? As someone with ADHD, you learn “work arounds” so survive school due to compromised executive functioning skills. And so then in the real world, let the Sunday Basket® be your work around to actually succeeding in organization. In my book, written in 2016, “How ADHD affects Home Organization”, I explain exactly how to do this. And that is why from 10/1-10/5 this book is completely free on Kindle. And if you have enjoyed and learned from this book before will you do me a small favor? Would you re-download it and leave a review? Pretty please? I love helping and supporting my community!  EPISODE RESOURCES: Sunday Basket® How ADHD affects Home Organization Kindle: How ADHD affects Home Organization Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter Did you enjoy this episode? “I am more interested, as a fellow sister and teacher, in the student learning the skill, more than I am in having a recurring membership program.” I knew 10 years ago that I wanted to offer lifetime access to this system so women everywhere could get bored,  bored enough that she has to wrestle with what she is uniquely created to do. This was a webinar we did as a one off to talk about the Completed Home Organization Bundle. The feedback from viewers was that this webinar, with myself, Virginia, and Tanya, helped them the most to understand what is in the bundles, how much time it will take, and the results to expect during the process.  Big News Well we kicked off the webinar letting our international followers know that they can now purchase the Productive Home Solution because the workbook is going digital!  The Productive Home Solution™ is your 52 week road map on how to get organized. The introductory pricing for lifetime access to The Complete Home Organization Bundle will not last forever so take advantage of the deal we are offering. As one person commented it was a little out of her price range but it was worth it for her sanity! And thanks to PayPal, when you check out there is a way to break it down into a payment plan. How is this different from all the other organizational offerings? The biggest difference most people notice is that this is an all encompassing system from organizing to planning to the invisible work we are all doing. It's a plan. You can have a gym membership but if no one shows you how to use the equipment than what good is the access to the gym?  A couple things that I am really proud of is that I teach these systems from a woman's point of view. I have been there. Done that.  And I have been in a plethora of homes to see all different family dynamics. And of course there's the fact that I was a teacher. I understand that everyone learns differently and I try to cater to all learning styles in each system. And the best part of the system? It follows the energies of the year. And we reset every 120 days with Planning Day. This is a system that will teach you how to organize your space your way! What is the worst that could happen? You could get stuck. You likely will but Tanya runs a live club every Thursday that you can always attend. It's a welcoming space to ask questions or share where you are getting stuck. And each system comes with community access through the app. It's great to connect with other people in the same phase as you. People share tips all the time and talk about how they solved an issue they were having. And if you do get stuck, we encourage everyone to push through. When you make this kind of investment, you will get the work done because you have really thought about this purchase! I paid for a spendy weight loss program and you better believe I started making better food choices. And even though my family may not be on board with trying to get healthier, they are watching. And the woman usually sets the tone for the house. So like me with better food choices (which then my family is also benefitting) you too with getting your home organized. And at the end of the day it's for you! As women, our houses are holding us back. The clutter gives us anxiety. I truly believe the Sunday Basket® is the solution to women's mental health to lighten the cognitive load of all of our invisible work. Organization solves the root problem for women's mental health, their homes. Virginia shared she now has to hide how productive she really is from her friends and Tanya shared that she no longer feels behind on everything. Organization has always been a part of my life and it has opened doors for me and my family from consistent babysitting gigs, to making friends, to growing Organize 365®. Each time I have gained time and capacity, I have leveled up and I want the same for you. I want you to get more time back so you can wrestle with what you are uniquely created to do. This is the time to figure out who you are and who you are becoming!   EPISODE RESOURCES: The Sunday Basket® The Productive Home Solution The Complete Home Organization Bundle Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter  Did you enjoy this episode? Happy Monday!  I am constantly asking myself “Knowing what I know now, if I had to start all over again from scratch, would I still design these programs, products, and services the same way? Or would I do them differently? This summer I answered this question by saying yes I would do something different and the Organize 365® team confirmed my ideas.  Changes with the Sunday Basket®  The Sunday Basket® is a combination of your gifts, strengths, and orientation coupled with your life experiences and the people with which you do that. I have decided to add the weekly tear pad that you see me use to organize my week in the videos. The monthly tear pad will also be included. How inconvenient it is to get the Sunday Basket® but realize you need to go back into the shop to grab a few add on items. Now you don't. You will also get the pink, purple, green, blue tabs and the Sunday Basket® Bookmark.  Those are the product changes but I also decided to shift your mindset on the amount of time you will need to set aside each week for the Sunday Basket® which is 3 hours each week for roughly the first six weeks. You are learning a new skill set and watching the videos. You are no longer alone in this organizational fight and you have the Organize 365® community to help you iterate and improve the systems you are establishing.  Changes with the Complete Home Organization Bundle This 52 week course now includes The Productive Home Solution™, The Paper Solution, 4 Binders, 3 Planning Days, 2 year planner, Holiday Blitz Bundle, Embrace, Paper Solution Book, and Organization is a Learnable Skill book. It is a complete turbo charged bundle to again include everything you need to get your home 80% organized in a year without having to revisit the shop. (I explained why only 80% in this episode.) It is designed to help you eliminate the mental and physical clutter and get systems in place.  And again I decided to shift the mindset about how much time this is actually going to take you. I have been on a health journey and shared about how I have added practices into my week, devoting more time, but now getting the results I desire. And it's the same with this system. Ask yourself, “Are you willing to put the time in now, to live a completely different life a year from now? And for one year, you will now look at sections of your home and watch the videos that apply to your and your current phase of life. Might be the same house but you may need to start using it differently. Week one starts after Planning Day in August.  The holidays are a big deal that require a lot of time and planning. For two months, I want you to utilize the Sunday Baskets® from the Holiday Blitz Bundle. One is for the holidays and one is for taxes. You will delay everything else in your regular Sunday Basket® till January. These additional baskets will give you a place to cognitively offload so you can be present in and enjoy the holidays.  And I felt it necessary to include Embrace. Embrace is designed to help you reflect on how you formed the idea of what a household manager came to be, decide what you want to keep of that description, and then uncover what are you uniquely created to do with all of the extra time now that your life is organized. In this episode of True Tales From Old Houses, Stacy and Daniel tackle a relatable question: What's the deal with tiny closets in old houses, and how can homeowners maximize storage? They offer tips, commiseration, and a few creative workarounds. Then, if you've been waiting for a deep dive into Lustron living, this is the episode. Stacy chats with Laura, proud owner of a Lustron home. These prefabricated, all-metal houses were born out of the post–World War II housing shortage and designed as a modern, low-maintenance solution for families in need of fast, affordable housing. Laura shares what it's really like to live in one of these rare architectural time capsules. From magnetic walls and steel cabinets to the practicalities of maintenance, she has embraced "space age" living with appreciation and delight. Laura's experience offers a firsthand look at why Lustron homes still captivate preservationists, old house lovers, and anyone who appreciates the quirkiest house in their neighborhood. In this episode of True Tales From Old Houses, Daniel dives into the deeply satisfying experience of helping friends prepare their home for a new baby. Left unsupervised while his friends were at the hospital, Daniel organized the house with gusto—leaving the new parents a little more surprised than planned. He reflects on what worked, what didn't, and why the whole experience might just turn into a book someday. Then, Stacy talks about gearing up for the big move, including renting a POD, packing up her historic house, and tackling the project mostly on her own. It's a lively conversation about organized chaos, hard deadlines, and the universal truth that babies don't care about your to-do list.
