Some days our inner voice is so strong it can feel debilitating. We judge ourselves harshly, compare our worst days to someone else's best, and it feels like we'll never be enough.  How often do you quiet your inner voice or turn the volume down and just allow yourself to be? Be in the present moment. Be still and sit with yourself. When do you give yourself the permission to just be soft with yourself?  My guest today, Kelly Covert, is an Inner Voice Coach, speaker, author and podcast host of In Her Voice podcast. The beauty of her journey has been finding a way to fail at perfection while discovering that it's okay to be soft with yourself and just exist. Kelly helps women experience a fulfilling life connected to their purpose when they learn to listen to their true inner voice and be kinder to themselves,  “I'm tapping into how I want to feel, not trying to make sure everyone else feels okay.” -Kelly Covert  Kelly shares her insight on the trick to being soft with yourself. Letting go of perfectionism, trusting that you know what you need in the moment over a checklist or scheduled task and event is a big part of how being soft works. Turning down your inner mean girl is super hard, and there are things you tell yourself and expectations you place on yourself that make being soft feel impossible.  Ideas we explore and uncover in this episode:  You can overcome perfectionism with self-compassion  The ability to trust yourself is challenging, but necessary to hear your inner voice  Being soft with yourself beautiful and it's scary because it requires you to let go  Learning to hold space with yourself and allowing yourself to sit with the emotions that are uncomfortable is hard, but it is such a necessary part of healing and feeling whole. In this episode,   I also share a really difficult situation that hurts and makes me want to run and hide. There was no way around the pain and disappointment I was feeling. The best thing I could do was give myself room to process my feelings, and be soft with myself.  “When we are soft with ourselves, we also then give other people permission to be soft with themselves, and soft with us.” -Kelly Covert  When you are writing to heal emotionally it's scary and messy and sometimes deep dark work that is beyond uncomfortable. In Sam's writing circles and mentoring she anchors you to the practice of allowing space for your soul to speak and not forcing it. Your writing process can be therapeutic and revealing when you discover how to navigate, refine, and trust it.  Connect with Kelly Covert  Website: https://www.kellycovert.com/   In Her Voice Podcast: https://www.kellycovert.com/podcast   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kellyjcovert/    Atlas of the Heart book study: https://www.meghanthomas.com/atlas-of-the-heart  Learn more about your ad choices. Happy New Year.. as this podcast goes to air, we have made it through the end of 2020 and right into a new year!   2021 is a 5 year which, as I teach in the tarot, is all about change and challenge. And combined with the energy of this new era in Aquarius… it is about opening up the boundaries of your mind… thinking new thoughts… and creatively finding the ways to connect with your intuition and your spirituality. Spirituality will definitely be a part of this process, and knowing your Spirit and working with that depth of who you are will definitely help you to navigate the changes and challenges that will come in. With this new season of Winter coming forward, it is a time to go deeper into your Spirit. The winter season offers you a time to connect with your visions and your dreams, to understand what your truths are and how you want to bring them forward. It is also a time to work with your ancestors by looking at the generational energies, sometimes even referred to as a “curse” that the family places on you… “you should do this,”. “you'll never make it if you do that,” “our family business relies on you,” etc. To help with this, the next season of the Intuitive Path begins this month. The Intuitive Path can help you to reconnect with your spiritual practices and clear away old generational energies. All too often holds or “curses” can be put upon you without realizing it's the very thing holding you back. It's all those family “curses”… be this… do that… that can hold back your life of living as you choose and following your own inner guidance Spiritual Path. Schedule a Spiritual Upgrade Breakthrough call with me and let's see how my Programs can help you to open up to knowing more about your Spirit and  using these tools for your everyday life. In today's episode, I talk with Kelly Covert who has just created The Enoughness Planner.  It is the perfect tool for starting out the new year. In this episode, we talk about believing in yourself, that we are so much more powerful than we believe, we all have a voice and not just the mean one, being not just doing, forgetting perfect, permission slips and listening as a super power. Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping women who are overcoming perfectionism and chronic overachieving. Through her intuitive, heart-centered approach, she teaches how to create kinder habits that allow growth and transformation, while cultivating personal enoughness every day. She believes everyone can live a fulfilling life of purpose by connecting deeply with the wisdom that is inside of them - their inner voice - without feeling burnt out and exhausted. She helps women step into their enoughness, own their imperfections with grace, and embody their innate worthiness each and every day. Episode 079. “I think that it really takes a lot of courage to be able to say, you know what? It doesn’t have to look like this; I don’t have to do it this way.“ ~Kelly Covert For many, ‘tis the season to feel less than despite all you’ve accomplished. The twelfth month generally triggers an inevitable flurry of to-do list exercises, goal-setting activities, and wholesale changes to every single habit you have -- just in time for the New Year.  Inner-voice coach, author, musician, and podcaster Kelly Covert has felt your pain. “I never felt good enough, even if I finished something or I accomplished something, I just, I never felt good enough.”  Kelly has since landed on the antidote. She quit goal-setting based on external expectations for her podcast, In Her Voice, and her life. Now, she’s purposeful about her intent, defining what success feels like to her as opposed to what it looks like to others. For podcasters tied to measuring show success by standard metrics alone, Kelly’s counsel might sound radical, even downright crazy. In essence, though, she’s reconnecting your final product to your creative process. Coupled with practices like worthiness reminders and a quarterly desire process, both outlined in her new The Enoughness Planner, Kelly’s helping others rediscover their creative why and revel in their enoughness.  For more insight into developing kinder habits for yourself and your show, check out my crossover interview with Kelly for The Creative Impostor. Episode 120. "Perfection is not required.” ~Kelly Covert If your inbox is anything like mine (I feel for you), there's no end to the number of resolution-writing guides you've received; everything one needs to generate! improve! accomplish! To say nothing of the bad habits you're sure to (finally) crush.  As aggressive well-meaning as they are, those articles promising more and better ultimately leave me feeling less than.  It's beyond time for resolution evolution! Inner-voice coach, author, musician, and podcaster Kelly Covert agrees. After years of failing to live up to grand resolutions, Kelly swapped quantitative perfectionism - those mostly material goals our culture loves to measure - for kinder habits. Kelly distilled these techniques into a quarterly journal called The Enoughness Planner. I love this format! Unlike traditional goal-setting, this guide prompts participants to discern the difference between conditioned expectations and deeply-rooted intentions. Once identified, you create a personalized routine to support what Kelly calls everyday worthiness. After that, it's just a matter of building upon activities that make you feel good rather than ticking tasks off a homogenized list of accomplishments. Kinder habits and everyday worthiness.     On today's episode, we talk about intuitive voice In the same way that Intuitive Eating teaches you to tap into your innate body wisdom to know what to eat, you can tap into this same body wisdom to be guided in all the other segments of your life. The body wisdom we’ve been gifted by embodying our human body is awaiting us to notice her and engage with her with trust and respect. Some will call this body wisdom intuition others will say inner voice... all the same. When we do not engage and respect this wisdom, we tend to be engaged in perfectionism as a way to control life... control our life, control our future, control our body. Control so it can be the way it should be. But it doesn’t work... and we try harder. Control more. And we fail harder. On today’s episode, Kelly Covert, an inner voice coach will help us interrupt this pattern. Kelly has a passion for helping women believe and achieve their big vision by connecting deeply with the wisdom that is inside of them all while owning their worthiness each and every day. What you’ll learn listening to this episode: What is our inner voice? Our intuition, what exactly is it? How does intuitive voice show up in our day to day life? How to hear our inner voice and learn from it. Concrete exercise to practice tapping into our innate body wisdom or intuition. Episode 21 TITLE Intuition and Knowing Your Worth GUEST Kelly Covert EPISODE OVERVIEW We address the following questions in this episode--What is intuition? Is one’s Inner Voice ever mean or critical? How do you encourage people to get in touch with their intuition? How do we encourage or shut down intuition and communication in kids? We talk about creating meaningful relationships with your children instead of letting rules dictate the relationship. Kelly shares about creating a family mission statement. HIGHLIGHTS Intuition is that inner voice/wisdom We all have intuition It’s a Divine part of who you are We just need to take time to listen to it Intuition is never mean or critical—that’s our ego, which comes from our head How do you encourage people to explore their intuition: Listen to your inner voice Find practices that get us still enough to hear it Journaling (or verbally processing) to get our of your head How do you encourage intuition and communication in kids? Lead by example Ask the right questions Put the relationship before the punishment or judgment How can you tell the difference between intuition and fear? Intuition is never mean Inner mean girls and critical voices are egocentric What’s your superpower as an HSP? If you listen deeply, you can hear other people’s inner voices, and you can help people connect to their inner voice. I have amazing ideas for other people that come to me through Divine Inspiration “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.” What would you tell your younger self? You are enough. You don’t have to try so hard “My inner voice is loving. It knows my worth, and that I am worthy. It guides me. It’s powerful, encouraging and it can show us the error of our ways.” BIO Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping women believe and achieve their big vision by connecting deeply with the wisdom that is inside of them all while owning their worthiness each and every day. My fave moments from this conversation: Understanding our worthiness is there all along...it doesn't grow bigger or diminish and we don't need to try harder. In healing ourselves, we are able to help others heal. When Kelly felt that failing at being a mother felt like failing at being a women and how motherhood felt like just another thing to get an A+ on. The realization that Kelly couldn't change her autistic child but instead, she had to trust and love herself as fully as possible. Knowing when to pick your fights as a parent and perhaps wearing underwear isn't the most important fight to pick! Learning the lesson that when things are not as we expect them to be...is not necessarily a bad thing. And that's just the first 16 minutes or so... This weeks guest shares her long journey to believing that she is enough, just as she is, as a mother.  When her first son was born, she struggled with resentment and grief as she felt the pressure to be perfect and knew she couldn't be.  Over the years she struggled more and more with her relationship with her son, reaching a point where she felt there was something wrong with her because she didn't want to be around him. It wasn't until years after Kelly's son was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome at age 5 that her turning point came when she began to understand that she had always been conditioned to perform for worthiness and that this had carried over to her experience of being a mother. Learning to let go of perfectionism and her need for control was an important part of her journey, and now Kelly helps others do the same through her coaching work. Kelly gets real about learning how to understand her son's needs and advocate for him, what it's like to embrace imperfection, and how she has stopped "hustling for her worthiness", in the words of Brene Brown. In This Episode: How never feeling like she was good enough as a child led to her becoming addicted to external validation   Being imperfect as a mother made her feel like she was failing   Being vulnerable can be in sharing of the hard moments of motherhood but also in believing in yourself and letting people see that   How her son's Aspergers diagnosis helped Kelly move towards believing she was enough   Learning to advocate for her son and teaching him to advocate for himself as he got older   The need for more moms to stand up and say "this is freaking hard"   Learning not to dismiss our own struggles just because someone else "has it worse"   Exploring personality type through The Enneagram   A special visualization Kelly does to help conceptualize your inherent worthiness   Kelly's year of Intentional Underacheiving   Learning to recognize and listen to your inner voice   Kelly's invitation to join her private Facebook Group: The Worthy Collective About Our Guest: Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping women lay down their lifelong habits of perfectionism and chronic overachieving, so they can listen to their inner voice and love themselves fully every single day.  Through her coaching, online programs, writing and speaking, she is creating a movement of women that are practicing worthy now instead of worthy if or when. They’re just recovering. As a recovering perfectionist, my guest I couldn't agree more. My whole life I was a perfectionist + overachiever. In fact, I remember shamefully throwing away a report card my senior year of high school because I made a B+ in calculus. In calculus! And it was at the college level! The thing is, being a perfectionist + chronic achiever can lead to great things: success, financial abundance, and yes, status. But when you die, all those things go away + don’t matter. And unfortunately, the perfectionist mentality keeps you from living a life of deeper meaning. This hit home for me, and I know it did for my guest today. Both of us had achieved so much, yet it was never enough. We were always tired, and at the end of the day, something was missing. Kelly + I dive deep into the conversation about all things perfectionism, worthiness, and relationships. Here’s what we jam on: Where feelings of feeling worthy + being enough have to come from How to know the difference between a ‘perfect’ relationship + a real life relationship How to deal with your imperfections, baggage, and being rejected, without losing your feelings of worthiness About Kelly: Kelly Covert is co-owner of Strong Body Whole Heart, a transformational coaching company. Are you trying to be a Perfect Mom?  Is this even possible? Do you think it’s your job as a Mom to make your kids happy? In this Episode Kelly and I discuss: how she felt equally devastated and relieved when her son was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome the freeedom she felt when she came to a point of acceptance of who she was a Mom and gave up the image of being a ‘perfect’ Mom that there no such thing as balance, and it’s really more about harmony with being a Mom how she feels it’s important to let her kids’ process the times they feel unhappy, and hold them in that space why she feels deep compassion for other Moms and how she conveys that to them Love of the Week: iTunes Review “While I am not a Parent, I loved the professional, credible and engaging style of Karen’s show.  I really appreciated her show on following your heart.  It was inspiring and helpful.” -Shawn Manaher Thanks so much, Shawn!
