Some days our inner voice is so strong it can feel debilitating. We judge ourselves harshly, compare our worst days to someone else's best, and it feels like we'll never be enough.  How often do you quiet your inner voice or turn the volume down and just allow yourself to be? Be in the present moment. Be still and sit with yourself. When do you give yourself the permission to just be soft with yourself?  My guest today, Kelly Covert, is an Inner Voice Coach, speaker, author and podcast host of In Her Voice podcast. The beauty of her journey has been finding a way to fail at perfection while discovering that it's okay to be soft with yourself and just exist. Kelly helps women experience a fulfilling life connected to their purpose when they learn to listen to their true inner voice and be kinder to themselves,  “I'm tapping into how I want to feel, not trying to make sure everyone else feels okay.” -Kelly Covert  Kelly shares her insight on the trick to being soft with yourself. Letting go of perfectionism, trusting that you know what you need in the moment over a checklist or scheduled task and event is a big part of how being soft works. Turning down your inner mean girl is super hard, and there are things you tell yourself and expectations you place on yourself that make being soft feel impossible.  Ideas we explore and uncover in this episode:  You can overcome perfectionism with self-compassion  The ability to trust yourself is challenging, but necessary to hear your inner voice  Being soft with yourself beautiful and it's scary because it requires you to let go  Learning to hold space with yourself and allowing yourself to sit with the emotions that are uncomfortable is hard, but it is such a necessary part of healing and feeling whole. In this episode,   I also share a really difficult situation that hurts and makes me want to run and hide. There was no way around the pain and disappointment I was feeling. The best thing I could do was give myself room to process my feelings, and be soft with myself.  “When we are soft with ourselves, we also then give other people permission to be soft with themselves, and soft with us.” -Kelly Covert  When you are writing to heal emotionally it's scary and messy and sometimes deep dark work that is beyond uncomfortable. In Sam's writing circles and mentoring she anchors you to the practice of allowing space for your soul to speak and not forcing it. Your writing process can be therapeutic and revealing when you discover how to navigate, refine, and trust it.  Connect with Kelly Covert  Website: https://www.kellycovert.com/   In Her Voice Podcast: https://www.kellycovert.com/podcast   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kellyjcovert/    Atlas of the Heart book study: https://www.meghanthomas.com/atlas-of-the-heart  Learn more about your ad choices. Happy New Year.. as this podcast goes to air, we have made it through the end of 2020 and right into a new year!   2021 is a 5 year which, as I teach in the tarot, is all about change and challenge. And combined with the energy of this new era in Aquarius… it is about opening up the boundaries of your mind… thinking new thoughts… and creatively finding the ways to connect with your intuition and your spirituality. Spirituality will definitely be a part of this process, and knowing your Spirit and working with that depth of who you are will definitely help you to navigate the changes and challenges that will come in. With this new season of Winter coming forward, it is a time to go deeper into your Spirit. The winter season offers you a time to connect with your visions and your dreams, to understand what your truths are and how you want to bring them forward. It is also a time to work with your ancestors by looking at the generational energies, sometimes even referred to as a “curse” that the family places on you… “you should do this,”. “you'll never make it if you do that,” “our family business relies on you,” etc. To help with this, the next season of the Intuitive Path begins this month. The Intuitive Path can help you to reconnect with your spiritual practices and clear away old generational energies. All too often holds or “curses” can be put upon you without realizing it's the very thing holding you back. It's all those family “curses”… be this… do that… that can hold back your life of living as you choose and following your own inner guidance Spiritual Path. Schedule a Spiritual Upgrade Breakthrough call with me and let's see how my Programs can help you to open up to knowing more about your Spirit and  using these tools for your everyday life. In today's episode, I talk with Kelly Covert who has just created The Enoughness Planner.  It is the perfect tool for starting out the new year. In this episode, we talk about believing in yourself, that we are so much more powerful than we believe, we all have a voice and not just the mean one, being not just doing, forgetting perfect, permission slips and listening as a super power. Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping women who are overcoming perfectionism and chronic overachieving. Through her intuitive, heart-centered approach, she teaches how to create kinder habits that allow growth and transformation, while cultivating personal enoughness every day. She believes everyone can live a fulfilling life of purpose by connecting deeply with the wisdom that is inside of them - their inner voice - without feeling burnt out and exhausted. She helps women step into their enoughness, own their imperfections with grace, and embody their innate worthiness each and every day. Listen to Kelly on In Her Voice, a podcast for women who are ready to connect with their inner voice and live life with purpose, enoughness and joy. You can connect with her by visiting her website, kellycovert.com, or following her on Instagram or Facebook. It's time to believe in yourself. It's time to offer gratitude for all that you do in a day. It's time to offer gratitude for just being… Allowing your enoughness to come in as we start this New Year. Episode 079. “I think that it really takes a lot of courage to be able to say, you know what? It doesn’t have to look like this; I don’t have to do it this way.“ ~Kelly Covert For many, ‘tis the season to feel less than despite all you’ve accomplished. The twelfth month generally triggers an inevitable flurry of to-do list exercises, goal-setting activities, and wholesale changes to every single habit you have -- just in time for the New Year.  Inner-voice coach, author, musician, and podcaster Kelly Covert has felt your pain. “I never felt good enough, even if I finished something or I accomplished something, I just, I never felt good enough.”  Kelly has since landed on the antidote. She quit goal-setting based on external expectations for her podcast, In Her Voice, and her life. Now, she’s purposeful about her intent, defining what success feels like to her as opposed to what it looks like to others. For podcasters tied to measuring show success by standard metrics alone, Kelly’s counsel might sound radical, even downright crazy. In essence, though, she’s reconnecting your final product to your creative process. Coupled with practices like worthiness reminders and a quarterly desire process, both outlined in her new The Enoughness Planner, Kelly’s helping others rediscover their creative why and revel in their enoughness.  For more insight into developing kinder habits for yourself and your show, check out my crossover interview with Kelly for The Creative Impostor. Are you ready, like really ready, to put thoughts and intentions into practice as you come into alignment with your heart's desires? Let's talk! Sign up for a free discovery call today! www.kellycovert.com/discovery Here are some of the big topics we talked about…   You might struggle with happiness, but you can improve, have compassion for yourself! Key points of our journey “value work” - some of the top values: love, freedom, courage, adventure, giving back, authenticity, stability, safety, integrity, honesty Spiritual transitions and one’s changing relationship with one’s religion and devotion Creativity can look like so many different things. Define what a value means to you! Authenticity examples: being yourself AND knowing when you’re in perfectionism, people pleasing; taking responsibility for your mistakes and making apologizes; cleaning up messes/ apologizing; having hard conversations and setting boundaries Don’t set values and run away — know what they look like on a daily basis Be proud of how you showed up no matter the outcome Identify red flags of when you’re out of alignment Become aware of incongruity so you can make a choice about who you want to be In Andrea’s Voice “Happiness is where you are proactive in your life in focusing on the things that make you feel good. There are things that we can do that will help us along the path of happiness.” “What’s important about the way you live your life? What attributes and virtues matter to you?” “Your values might change depending on the season that you’re in. I invite people to try not to be attached to what a value ‘means.’” “Print a list of values from the web. Circle any that jump out at you. My guess is that first round you’re going to circle the ones that look good on paper, that you want to be your values. Don’t be afraid to circle ones you might not yet honor in your life. I call those aspire values.” “Ask yourself what values you need to honor to get you to the next level in your personal life.” “Professing and naming your values is like naming your children and calling that parenting. It’s not how it works! It’s the same with values. You can tell people what your values are. The next step, what does that look for you on a ground level, day in and day out?” “I’d have cheated myself, not honored courage, if I didn’t have an uncomfortable conversation.” “There’s a feeling of congruency, you feel at home and comfortable of who you are. The more aligned you are with your values, the more brave you are in your life, the more you can trust yourself on the other side.” “When I have moments of being out of alignment with who I want to be, I notice it within a handful of minutes. The solution for me: self compassion, then making a decision about what needs to be done. I have been practicing this for about 12 years!” Connect with Andrea WebsiteFacebookInstagram Catch Andrea’s first interview on In Her Voice here.

Ch. 23 | Legendary Bookseller Ben McNally on the Importance of Indie Bookstores

Today's chapter of the Word Weaver Podcast is my in-depth interview with Ben McNally, the legendary bookseller behind "Toronto's Most Beautiful Bookstore” and his namesake, Ben McNally Books. The shop first opened in 2007 at 366 Bay Street in Toronto's financial district but Ben has worked in the book business for over 40 years. We chatted over coffee inside his stunning shop, under the 14-foot ceilings, with the mahogany bookshelves as our backdrop. I was honoured that Ben would take the time to sit down and speak with me as he is somewhat akin to what a celebrity chef in the restaurant industry would be to the Canadian literary scene.Independent bookstores have long been thought of as a dying breed, particularly with the age of Amazon. Even big box superstores like Chapters Indigo are dedicating more of their retail space to housewares, a higher profit driver for them than books. Despite the recent revival of indie bookshops (much like the renaissance of vinyl records and polaroid cameras), many independent bookstores have been forced to shut their doors over the years as book sales are unable to cover their overhead. In a fraught industry, Ben McNally Books has managed to stay competitive, which he credits to building trusting, loyal and long-lasting relationships with his customers — a face-to-face interaction he fears is being lost in our overstimulated technology era.“On the internet you can find what you're looking for; in our store you can find what you are not looking for.”- Ben McNallyIn today's podcast chapter we discuss everything from how he went from parking cars at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) to being at the forefront of the literary industry. He also gives us a behind-the-scenes look from the booksellers perspective of the publishing industry and his stance on why books are sexy again.Don't miss the rapid fire at the end where he tells us his favourite author, book of ALL time, favourite place to read and why he loves Harry Potter!I don't know if it was being in a bookstore on a quiet, snowy morning or listening to Ben talk about books, but I felt such a sense of calm during the interview. It was a magical conversation with a magical man! I hope you enjoy.ps. If you're located in Toronto, Ben hosts a monthly Books and Brunch in the Vanity Fair Ballroom at the King Edward Hotel with up to four authors and various In Her Voice events at the bookstore that support emerging female writers and poets.

Let's connect over on Instagram! Tag me (@kellyjcovert) in your posts and stories about what you are learning as you listen to In Her Voice!  Here are a few of the big topics we talked about: Ali discusses growing up “epically left-brained” - math, airplanes, good grades Breaking out of not even “having feelings” - she was so in her head that it overrode any actual feeling that was happening Becoming an entrepreneur was a mindset change Lifestyle design is a constant journey Openness to discovering something new about the self Keys to feelings: not judging what comes up Getting over her tendency to over-analyze by learning to be a neutral observer She had the “coolest job” - top secret flight test engineer for top secret military planes She is grateful for experiencing that, but always had her inner knowing it wasn’t for her Passion vs. living in the way you want to live Surrender and patience with the process - there’s a reason for the pace it’s happening! We don’t have an owner’s manual but we do have our intuition In Ali’s Voice “I spent about five years trying to get out of my corporate job. I had no idea where that was going to take me. It was a journey in itself. It was a journey of trying as hard as I could and being open to what was presented to me.” “It was a soulful journey of finding out who I am (I was under some false impressions). In some ways I’m not different at all today but in other ways I’m completely different” “It’s about the lifestyle design, who I am, what I’m here for, and really just enjoying life, minute by minute.” “We have resistance: there could be some reason that we’re terrified to suddenly not be the thing we’re supposed to be.” “I was like, I should explore this emotion-feeling thing. It was such a mystery. And it was frustrating for quite a while because I was even asking people to explain them to me. I was hoping for a bulletized spreadsheet list! People would just stare at me. For the longest time, I was just clueless.” “At that point because of how gracefully it had laid itself out, it was so clear to me, there were no questions at all that I had to be doing this. It was as if someone signed me up for this and I had no choice. It was partially knowing, and partially building it in a way that made it concrete for me.” “I don’t think you could survive as an entrepreneur if you don’t have passion somewhere in the equation. The only thing that got me through the roller coaster was for the freedom of lifestyle. I want this so bad that I’m willing to rough out the hard times.” Connect with Ali Website Hipster Investments Facebook Instagram

Here are some of the big topics we talked about: A radiant woman has an energy that shines from her soul that magnetizes every person, experience and opportunity that steps into her life Emily notes that a woman on the cover of a magazine but with a dullness to her is a strong contrast to a woman who’s not traditionally beautiful but glowing with radiance If you see radiance in someone else it’s in you Notice if you’ve agreed to information or thoughts that cover over your radiance Adopt a supportive belief system that allows you to nurture our radiance Lives that don’t feel as good as they look may have creativity blocked from flowing Creativity is an energy part of being human; nothing in the natural world is perfect and you don’t have to be perfect either Perfection programming - “slay it or don’t do it at all” - totally depletes radiance When one finds her way out of this maze, it becomes her dharma to help others out Take radical personal responsibility for your every single moment of your life Find the gift, vibrate in gratitude, neutralize the situation, move on! Creativity and inspiration are a gateway to the present moment When you’re in gratitude for your life, you trust that things are working out Emily notes a difference between qualities: Let go of efforting, being serious, having a “problem mentality,” exhausting yourself, feeling like you punish yourself, living in competition - masculine qualities that harden us as women Intend to have more softening feminine energies: amusement, ease, collaboration, permission, rejuvenation, light-heartedness, playfulness Being vulnerable about the journey despite being in front of such a large audience is how Emily is staying on a path of growth She loves the community of sisterhood, women by her side that are real - they share ups and downs of life together In Emily’s Voice: “Gifts are usually a shift in perspective, a recognition, a moment of clarity that leads to greater compassion for yourself, then that translates to greater compassion for others” “It will never be enough until we feel like we’re enough.” “Saving yourself is far sweeter than anybody else - being sovereign is a feeling like no other.” “In moments of inspiration, we feel connected to who we are, why we’re here. Turn regrets of the past into gratitude - they were steps in getting you where you are now. They prevent future tripping because you’re connected to the present moment, which creates future.” “You know you’re radiant when love is pouring out of you, you just want to be super friendly, compelled to compliment, flirt for no reason.” “We should be vibrating 5x higher than men, we drop our vibration in order to get that approval from the people in charge.” Connect with Emily: Website link for In Her Voice listeners Instagram Facebook

Listen to your body and go with your heart In Bianca’s Voice: “Not just your home needs to be in alignment, but your inner world needs to be in alignment too.” “There are a lot of hidden things in your home that relate back to self worth.” “This is a sacred space. If you are done with that aspect of your life, you have to get that stuff out of your house. [...] I think a lot of the times we hold onto things because it was a better time, according to us.” “...you really have to experience temporarily that grief, sadness, anger from the past to open yourself up to experience the good. If we’re denying the negative emotions we’re denying the positive emotions.” “I do believe that once your home environment changes, your body tries to meet that energy. So, if your home is vibrating at a higher energy, your soul and body will try to meet that.” “We have this ability and sometimes it can be scary, and you’re right it can be intimidating but if you start to crack yourself open to this and you actually experience and can feel the difference after this” “Finding a way to make your home easy. And that’s why clutter is so important, because if you’re looking for something and you can’t find it, how does that make you feel?” “Your body will tell you, if you can just quiet your mind enough to ask the questions, you know your body will speak the truth and you can practice this. Shereen’s message is to all the reformed good girls out there, “It’s time to listen to your inner bad girl.” Shereen’s first big awakening came when she realized she’d adhered to her mother’s expectations. Despite having “everything” Shereen wasn’t fully happy with her life the way it was. A self-help seminar is when Shereen’s views on things turned around. What “Good Girl Syndrome” means to Kelly and Shereen and how it affects others. Kelly shares her story of being a rebel, but also being sure to have good girl tendencies. How parents react to their children’s choices and how they fear for their success. In the past, Kelly has felt that people would like her more if she was good. The ladies discuss the feeling of being abandoned and needing to feel loved. Shereen describes how you can pick back up the pieces after they’ve been abandoned. Morning Pages The Artist’s Way and the self-destructive patterns that often look honorable to the outside world, but it is really crushing your soul. Shereen shares how we all begin to change the meaning of selfish. How to nurture your inner rebel. Once you ask for what you want, the Universe begins to work to bring it to you. How women can nurture and care for themselves. Kelly asks Shereen what her Inner Voice is asking of her today. In Shereen’s Voice: “My work is to support people in awakening the rebel, get in touch with that little hottie in there. See what she really wants.” “Following your truth is actually going to look rebellious or disrespectful.” “I'm not going to do this anymore. I'm going to fully choose to show up in the world as the truth of me, and sometimes that might hurt, but I can take a bullet.” “I learned a pattern of abandoning myself in an effort to please others.” “We need the belonging, we need the love and we also need to feel loved for who we actually are.” “The same way the frog dies a slow death, he doesn't realize that the water is slowly coming to a boil and then dies, I think the same can happen with the awakening. I think you can do a slow awakening where you're not shocking yourself like maniac.” “Women need to learn to self advocate for their spirit, for their soul, for themselves.” “Let it be okay that some people are going to be disappointed and just let it be okay that you're not there for everyone else. Just let it be okay for you to be selfish for a moment.” “We've been socialized to feel bad for being selfish because our role and our value comes from giving and loving and care for everyone else, and that's beautiful.” “If you are selfish you are also giving. You can't be one without the other.” ~ Kelly Covert “Your work is to make sure you do not abandon yourself.” Connect with Shereen: Shereen’s Website Shereen’s Podcast Twitter Facebook Instagram

Teacher, facilitator, writer, mentor and change agent, Miranda Sophia is passionate about marrying science and spirituality together. She has a love affair with the wisdom and language of the body and its ability to heal past wounds and reprogram limiting belief systems, as she journeys through her own healing. She believes deeply in the power of women coming together, creating meaningful relationships, weaving a support net of sisterhood, and lifting one another to their highest potentials. Perhaps more importantly, she feels that the magic and power is really found in each individual woman learning how to be sovereign and autonomous, how to be with herself fully, how to have her own back and to know the necessity of her voice in this world.   Miranda Sophia currently facilitates women’s healing & empowerment retreats, bi-monthly women’s circles, offers one-on-one Divine Human Embodiment Mentorship, online group education and exploration, and teaches Chakra Balancing yoga, yoga nidra & meditation classes. Her first book, Her Art of Surrender, which is co-authored with 19 other women from around the world, will be published in fall 2018. Miranda channels her creative flow through writing and handcrafting vibrationally attuned + intention infused malas. She also is passionate about Young Living Essential Oils, their healing power on the mind, body and spirit, and growing her YL team towards financial abundance and freedom.   Here are a few of the big topics we talked about: Kelly introduces Miranda Sophia. Miranda’s truest form of surrender came in the form of a meltdown at a chakra therapy training. Miranda’s meltdown. The ladies discuss why many of us resist moving through our emotions. The regulation cycle and how it affects our emotions. Instead of being full with our self, we look to outside things to fill us up. The word crazy, and how we’re all a little nuts. When you step into your craziness, it can be one of the most liberating moments. Shame and feeling like we’re inantely bad. We must stop spiritually bypassing ourselves, and actually work through the things affecting us. Our nervous system can act like a wire that is frayed, and our a-ha moments become the bridge to reconnect things. All of our stories have 3 Acts. Your Inner Voice doesn’t have to be mean, there is a kind Inner Voice inside of you. Having a daily practice can help you feel more connected when you wake up feeling off. The Five Myths Morning pages and journaling and how these can be effective ways to move clear out your head when it is feeling cluttered. Yoga Nidra Kelly gets raw and honest and shares her fear around being considered lazy. Our Inner Voice can be mean, but it exists to protect us - we must find a way to build an intimate relationship with it. Miranda shares what her Inner Voice is asking of her.   In Miranda’s Voice:   “Our body, it's a wave. It's a wave that rises up and then it discharges and then it comes back down. That's the natural cycle of our nervous system. That's called regulation in the somatic world.”   “We go outside of ourselves to hold on to things, people. We reach outside to fill ourselves with the foods, or the drugs, or the social media, or the whatever that hit is to temporarily numb that sensation.”   “When we have a dysregulated nervous system or when we have this abundance of charge or we have this lack of boundary and sense of where we begin, where we end, that is what creates a sensitive person and an empath.”   "Holy, fuck. We are all crazy. We are all batshit nuts, and we are all literally just dying our way through life, suffering our way through life trying to prove to somebody, to ourselves that's not true."   “Shame has the underlying story that there's something wrong with me. If we feel like there's something wrong with me or that I'm innately bad.”   “We say that babies are born pure, but we're born into a specific story already, that may not show right when we are born, but it will unfold.”   “Getting movement and fluidity and softness back into my body, because for me, when I'm in that rigid state, I'm in that, "Don't see me state."”   “Learning to have this really intimate relationship with our thoughts, with our sensations, with our feelings, and letting them guide us to where it is that we are needing to go, where we're meant to go, where we are being called to go.”   “We are so in our infancy of understanding how to be human, how this world works, how to interact with ourselves and others and have mastery over ourselves. We have this source that is infused in all of us that is just so unconditionally in awe of us.” Connect with Miranda:   Miranda’s Website Miranda’s Book - Her Art of Surrender Facebook Instagram

Lara shares what reactivating the Real You means to her. How Lara came to begin her journey to reactivating herself. The ladies discuss what to look for when it’s time to reboot yourself. Big life transitions often predicate the need for big changes. Not all changes have to do with wanting to look different. Rather than weight loss, you should be looking at food, physical activities, relatinships and stress management to determine if you need a change. Most successful leaders prioritize mind, body and health. The best place to start is by listening to your physical body and how it feels with different foods, or different experiences. Lara shares how to get started with some great baby steps. Ie. The breakfast experiment. Meditation is effective, and it doesn’t have to be the formal meditation you’re used to hearing about (Lara explains). Mindful eating, and only eating a table. The ladies discuss the different stories we tell our bodies. (ie. all or nothing) The trick to setting goals is to make them inspiring and achievable. If you can do nothing else, get your sleep sorted, then add in leafy greens. Vibrant health playbook - It’s your personal road map to feeling like your real self, and understanding why you want what you want. Many people have the identify illusion, where they have this image of what the ideal person looks like or does. Build up trust with your intuition. Five Days Of Journaling For Visionary Women Kelly asks Lara what her Inner Voice is asking of her.       In Lara’s Voice:   “Women on the Rise. They’re all very high achieving women in some part of their life and in all parts of their life. They feel that they’ve lost touch of this sort of vibrant powerful version of themselves; which I would call, the real them.”   “As I started changing the food on my plate and the way that I was moving my body and just thinking about taking care of myself, everything changed.”   “Someone is ready for a reboot or not feeling like they can achieve whatever they’ve set out to achieve is that they tend to be in this chaotic mind state. And I don’t mean that in the kind of pathological sort of way, but they feel disorganized, anxious, tired, lazy, frazzled and lack in confidence”   “If you’re not looking at things like food, physical activities, relationships, career, stress management - if you’re not looking at all of those things, just changing your food is not gonna make any difference.”   “When you look at the most successful leaders, whether they’re entrepreneurs in the leadership space, they all prioritize mind, body and health.”   “Start connecting your mood to the food choices that you make, for example, which is not something to think about. Your mood, your energy level.”   “Meditation doesn’t have to be sitting on a cushion in the middle of a yoga studio, ohming. It can be a very practical day-to-day thing. It can be as simple as picking something to notice throughout the day.”   “Unconscious stories are what we tell ourselves about being healthy and taking care of our bodies. All or nothing is one of those stories. It’s a very common, unconscious story that afflicts high achieving women, to a larger degree, that I call the all or nothing trap. And it’s tied to perfectionism.”   Connect with Lara: Lara’s Website Vibrant Health Playbook Lara’s Podcast Lara’s Workshop Facebook Instagram

Here are a few of the big topics we talked about: Kelly introduces Marian. Marian shares that many people feel and look at sensitivity as a negative thing. What Marian means by sensitivity. Only 20% of the population is highly sensitive. Marian shares her path to discovering that she is a highly sensitive person. The different struggles a highly sensitive person can experience, and then they discuss the benefits, as well. You can strengthen your intuition and your sensitivity by clearing the toxins and releasing what’s holding you back. “Allow our intuition” - the ladies discuss how powerful this phrase is. You have to open yourself up to the bigger feelings. Kelly and Marian discuss the things that can get in the way of diving deeper into your sensitivity and intuition. Calling your journey a practice takes the pressure off of you to feel like things need to be perfect. Clearing and the details of how to do it and why it’s so important. Emotional Freedom Technique and how to use them in your practice. It’s time to think of our sensitivity as a strength! When we let go of perfectionism, it allows us to be who were meant to be and it changes everything. Marian shares what her Inner Voice is telling her.   In Marian’s Voice:   “20% of the population is what you might call highly sensitive. Sensitivity is when you're in a room and you're feeling what other people are feeling or picking up on just different things.”   “I received a download of the reason why I kept getting sick. Lane shares her backstory on how she’s gotten to a place of deep listening and healing. What happened when Lane’s body began to break down after quitting drinking. The difference between data and intuition and how it affect Lane’s life. How Lane came to her journey of deep listening. Using meditation in a different way by using the breath and going deeper. Lane shares how the meditation practice allowed her body to speak ot her. Hemp oil and how it changed Lane’s life, by alleviating pain from her “dental chair accident.” Listening to her Inner Voice tell her it was okay to try this hemp oil helped change everything. Writing and a strong circle of women is how Lane is always questioning her stories, versus succumbing to them. Lane questioned her Inner Voice when she was involved in a startup because a great deal of money was involved. The ladies discuss Dave Asprey, biohacking and bulletproof coffee and how listening to what your body says is more important than what an influencer may say. Your body will tell you what it wants you to give it and what it needs to nourish. Kelly discusses her sensitivity to gluten. How Lane balances loving herself right now where she is, understanding her worthiness versus always wanting to be better. It’s hard, but you must know what YOU need in order to feel whole and happy. Lane shares what her Inner Voice is asking of her.   In Lane’s Voice:   “I feel like my intuition is super strong. I’ve tapped into that. It’s always been there. I either ignore it or I don’t. And what the data does - it’s a tool. It’s simply a tool that I use to reflect on.”   “I learned how to meditate in a different way by using my breath and by going deeper within. It shifted my perspective on how I saw the world and how I saw the data and how I had conversations with doctors and people in my life.”   “When I was on the [meditation] pillow or sitting, my body was calm and quiet. And my symptoms were calm and quiet.”   “With chronic pain, there’s a depression that comes. You’re sleep-deprived. And there’s a disconnection that happens between me and my inner voice because I just wasn’t present.   “There’s a difference between that voice saying it’s time to leave and the voice that said you’ve got this, you’re the boss! But I wanted to believe that the “you’ve got this, you’re the boss” voice because I was getting paid. I was getting the accolades. It looked good. Sometimes it’s hard to listen to the voice when it’s not gonna look the way you want it to in the moment.”   “Listening to that inner voice of you don’t have to do what everybody else is doing. It’s been a huge change for me.”   “It’s a priority to put my self-care and that self heart and love into me so that I can give back and be present and helpful and be of service to others.”   Connect with Lane:   Lane’s Website Lane’s “In Her Voice” Freebies Facebook Twitter Instagram

Mary shares the story of where she was 6 or 7 years ago, and how she got to where she is now. Mary helps women find the 2.0 version of themselves. Many of us shut our emotions off when we don’t like ourselves, Mary shares how she began to feel again. Tara Brach One of the reasons we avoid our feelings so much is because we believe they are going to overtake us. Book: Intuitive Eating - And, how it changed how Mary fed her body. Getting curious about her feelings, is how Mary began to change her mind and body. Acknowledge how you feel and then use it as data. Feelings as vibrations of the body, they’re not who you are. Dave Asprey and Peter Sage Mary hated her body so much that in order to start loving herself, she had to show gratitude for her body. This all started in a yoga class, Mary shares the full story in this episode! Babe, Redefined is the name of Mary’s course - she shares why she chose the word “babe” which can be a triggering word. The state of freedom women experience when they release the fear they’ve been living with. What “babe” means to Mary. Mary shares what her Inner Voice is asking of her. In Mary’s Voice: “I think most women start playing this role that we have been handed by society, our family, our spouses, our friends. And it’s this role of playing the good girl where we are quiet, respectful. We believe we need to be small, be little because we don’t have the sense of self-worth.” “I gave myself permission to feel my emotions - it felt very risky. It felt like this may turn out to where I can’t bring myself to go back. And what I needed to do is little by little give myself permission to identify those feelings.” “I think sometimes we are afraid to feel our emotions because we believe that if we feel certain emotions, that becomes who we are.” “When you touch the parts of your body that you’ve totally abused and berated and you ask for forgiveness, all of a sudden you can come to peace with something that you thought was your enemy and enter into a state of acceptance and love.” “You will have a smile on your face. You will feel like you are glowing. And you will feel a sense of confidence, bravery, courage, resiliency, and just that true, fierce femininity, when you begin feeling your emotions.” Connect with Mary: Mary’s Website Babe, Redefined Instagram Facebook

It's my 100th episode!! I can hardly believe it! Thank you for being a part of this journey with me! As always you can support In Her Voice directly through any Beautycounter purchase from this link! Thank you so much for your continued support of In Her Voice!    Here are a few of the big topics we talked about:   Kelly introduces Mili and asks her to describe what procrastination and perfection mean to her. Do you work best under pressure? It's pretty common and Mili explains why. Mili digs into why we procrastinate and how perfection plays a role in that. Procrastinators often need to feel an urgency in order to get things done. Perfectionism often has its roots back in our childhood. Why charting out how long a task will take can actually help a procrastinator. Mili gives an actionable tool to use to determine how long something will take. Kelly gets real and vulnerable in this episode. Authenticity is being attuned to your true self and meeting where you are. How to embrace that you are both a masterpiece and a work in progress. When you feel resistance, that is your mind telling you that you should actually try something. Why stepping outside your comfort zone is so important to overcoming procrastination. Mili shares how hot yoga helped her come to a breakthrough in being more present in life. Mili shares her weekly practice and what her Inner Voice is telling her.   In Mili's Voice:   “There are so many things that are genuinely pleasurable about giving yourself freedom to be present.”   “. Something as small as being mindful about keeping a steady pace to my breath became very meaningful and pivotal shift towards true presence for me.”   “If I had let myself remain in my comfort zone, I could never experience the profound change that has come from stepping out of it.”   “Redefining ourselves has to do with breaking out with the binary that we cannot be a masterpiece if we are work in progress.”   “Authenticity is being attuned to your true self and meeting where you are. Not where you should be, not where you could be, not where you have been. Right here, right now where you are” Connect with Mili: Mili's Website

My fave moments from this conversation: Understanding our worthiness is there all along...it doesn't grow bigger or diminish and we don't need to try harder. In healing ourselves, we are able to help others heal. When Kelly felt that failing at being a mother felt like failing at being a women and how motherhood felt like just another thing to get an A+ on. The realization that Kelly couldn't change her autistic child but instead, she had to trust and love herself as fully as possible. Knowing when to pick your fights as a parent and perhaps wearing underwear isn't the most important fight to pick! Learning the lesson that when things are not as we expect them to be...is not necessarily a bad thing. And that's just the first 16 minutes or so... Meet Kelly Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping visionary women believe and achieve their big vision by connecting deeply with the wisdom that is inside of them all while owning their worthiness each and every day. Through her intuitive, heart-centered approach she helps women awaken to their true power as creators and world-changers. Tracking your finances may not be glamorous but keeping track week by week can change your life. Having access to all of your accounts, this includes the usernames and passwords. Kelly shares how she and her husband handle the bill paying in their home. Finances and purchasing of items is all about open communication with your significant other. Sara shares what her Inner Voice is asking of her right now.   In Sara's Voice:   “It's really important to me to help women get that power back through simple things that we should have been taught as kids that most of us weren't.”   “Instead of waiting to the end of the month, track expenses during the week. By the time the end of the month comes, you can look at your statement and be like, “I've already gotten all of this in here. Yep, everything matches up. It's good.” It will just totally change your life.”   “When I say bookkeeping, it's not only your personal bookkeeping or just keeping track of all your expenses, this could be businesses as well.”   “If your name is on an account - doesn't matter what kind of account it is (credit card, bank account, savings, investments) - you need to have access to it and you need to be able to view the statements at any time of the day or night. Shame often plays a large role in loneliness. Jen remembers the post she put on Facebook that spoke about her loneliness and began her healing process. Jen's support network and how they help her. What it means to mirror for someone. Jen talks about how she went from thinking she wasn't good enough to have a network to honoring who she really was. Kelly's five year old you, meditation Why we need to take time to mother ourselves. Self-Compassion - by Kristen Neff Jen shares some of her self-mothering practices. The not so pleasant parts of our life, that shape who we are, Jen calls Silver Linings. Jen shares what her Inner Voice is telling her to do.   In Jen's Voice:   “Loneliness is filled with shame. It's filled with embarrassment and heartache. Who wants to say, ‘I have no friends?' Who wants to say, ‘I feel isolated. I don't feel connected?'”   “It's hard to say, ‘My heart feels broken and lonely.'"   “I think it was a moment of bravery or just putting it out there of like, ‘Hey, I suffer from loneliness. You'd never guess it, that's okay. My guess is there are others that are lonely. Either comment here or privately and we'll go from there.'"   “It's knowing that I can reach out and say, ‘I'm not doing okay today. I would like some lifting up.' And knowing that the person receiving it is not judging but wants to help lift me up, and that I will do the same for them.”   “I'm very good at reading people. I think that comes from an emotionally abusive childhood. You have to become good at reading people for survival.”   “I would attend retreats and I would be with groups of women and I had no clue. I was able to hold tremendous space for them and they mirrored that back to me, that I was in this very safe, very comfortable, loving, space for them to share openly.”   “Loneliness is isolation and not feeling connected. I question how on earth can you be a good mother, a good friend, a good partner, spouse, employee, employer, all of it. If you're thinking that way you are fooling yourself and it's exhausting.”   “One ginormous silver lining is that I am now able to have more empathy, more perspective, more understanding, more of everything so that I can go forward and try to help someone be and feel less alone.”   Connect with Jen: Website Podcast: Going There with Jen Vertanen Facebook Instagram Pinterest   In Her Voice is sponsored by Beautycounter. Isabell shares how she create her New Model for Love and how she uses it to heal relationships. Kelly asks Isabell to dive into how emotional maturity comes into play in a relationship. Isabell's program teaches us how to identify where I baggage comes from and how to handle it. Self-awareness is the best way to truly create and develop a relationship. Isabell's work shows couples who have years invested how to identify what's working and what's not and she provides the tools you need to heal and re-create your relationship. We don't even know what baggage we're carrying that can undermine our success. Intuition is basically our old wiring. Our ability to hear our inner voice is directly tied to how emotionally mature we are. It's important to know our value and our worth. Isabell shares what her inner voice is telling her to do.   In Isabell's Voice:   “You have to break rules in order to stand up for lots of things. Letting go of being polite, and doing the "right thing", or what culture says is the right thing, and listening to your inner voice, and listening to and embracing what you believe is your truth, and just standing up for what is your truth.”   “The message is that even to our own self detriment, when we sacrifice what we need and what we want, and what's important to us in order to have someone like us, or accept us, for being the measure for our value and our worth, we then abandon ourselves. We lose ourselves.” “Every love relationship is comprised of two components, and that is romantic attraction, and emotional maturity.”   “Emotional maturity is the awareness of self, and your impact on others.”   “All of these experiences that we're all experiencing on some level and some kind of variation growing up, unless we're tending to that and being able to identify that and heal those past impactful experiences, we are inadvertently dragging them unconsciously into our love relationships.”   “Emotional maturity is something that we can grow, if we grow it on purpose.”   Connect with Isabell: Website Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube D

Clothes often can represent who we are, we want what we feel on the inside to be reflected on the outside. Jackie shares why what she does is so important for women. Having a stylist like Jackie come in is about more than just having nice clothes, it's about recognizing the positive things about each women. Why it's important to see ourselves through someone else's perspective. Jackie shares the 3 words that she uses to describe herself, and why. How women can create a brand that really reflects who they are. We oftentimes project out onto other people our best, and worst qualities. Kelly's Instagram Finding clothes that you feel amazing and beautiful in should not be a chore. Having a stylist come in and work with you is an investment of yourself, and is so worth it. Jackie shares what her inner voice is saying.   In Jackie's Voice: “If you're not feeling good about yourself, we tend to put on things that are oversized, and cozy, and hide ourselves from the world, and not draw attention to ourselves. It's a way of masking who we are on the inside.” “We have guilt about spending money on ourselves, about taking time for ourselves. We don't want people to think that we try to look good, but we want to look good.” “My clients can't believe that they could have happiness, or be happy with who they are. They need someone like myself to come in, and say, "Why not? Why can't you pull off that look? Why can't you do that? If you want to do it, why can't you?" “The reflection that you see, is tainted by the story that's in your mind about whatever it is, your fears, or that you can't be heard, or that you're not good enough. You sometimes need somebody to reflect back a clearer message of who you are.” “You don't want to create an image that's not really you, because it's so exhausting to have to be somebody else every single day,” “I'm not saying you have to love to shop, or you have to love clothes, but you should not feel bad when you go into your closet, and get dressed” Connect with Jackie: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram Pinterest

Don't forget this is my month of CONNECTION!! Shoot me an email or connect with me on Instagram (@kellyjcovert) and let me know what you want more of on In Her Voice! xoxo Here are a few of the big topics we talked about:   Riana shares how she came to be who she is today Adults often unconsciously bring childhood triggers into their adult love relationships. Riana discusses the faulty coping mechanisms many adults use because of childhood traumas. The love of a partner is very important, Riana tells us why. In order to make the unconscious conscious you must know what the emotional triggers are, and how to deal with them. Riana goes into great deal regarding the top 10 childhood traumas -- many of them aren't as severe as you'd expect. We make many of these traumas unconscious as we grow, as a survival technique. You must become a successful single before trying to venture into a relationship. Messages like “you're stupid” or “you're not good enough” can also come from coaches or teachers. Riana shares how she balances out her heady research and her intuition. Riana shares what her inner voice is asking her to do.   In Riana's Voice: “Love is the first human primary need in Maslow's architect, hierarchy of needs, love and connection. So we all long for love.”   “The successful business woman often uses success in business to feed the ego that she did not get in accolades when she was growing up.” “It takes a real education to make the unconscious conscious to know what the emotional triggers are, and how to deal with them to make them go away and stop the pattern forever.”   “It's really important that you become a successful single first before you start dating. You must get rid of any of the childhood patterns that you are bringing into the love relationships.”   “We have learned to control our work environment, very often women unconsciously control their partners. This is when they lose them or there's a lot of fights that happen. We had to learn to control our environment to have a successful life for ourselves and in my situation for our kids as well.”   “Trauma research has shown meditation to being extremely essential to rewiring the brain after trauma.”   Connect with Riana: Website Life & Love Training Academy LOVE Beyond Your Dreams – Break Free of Toxic Relationships to Have the Love You Deserve LIVE Beyond Your Dreams – from Fear and Doubt to Personal Power, Purpose, and Success Facebook Twitter YouTube

“I want women to stop beating themselves up with that mean voice and live by the voice that says, ‘You are worthy now.’"~Kelly Covert Jennifer talks with inner voice coach Kelly Covert about speaking up, giving voice to what it's like to be an authentic woman in this world, and acknowledging your own self worth -- no matter how challenging. In this vulnerable conversation, Kelly shares her struggle with performance and perfectionism in regard to being a professional musician, triathlete, coach and, especially, as a mom to a child with special needs. *** Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping women entrepreneurs believe and achieve their big vision by connecting deeply with the wisdom that is inside of them all while owning their worthiness each and every day. Highlights from the Episode -The “inner voice” Kelly talks about is the place of wisdom inside of us, not the voice that beats us up -- it takes practice to be able to discern between the two. -How we can try on our inner voice to see what it feels like in our physical body, like we would a dress. "Is this me? Is this who I am? Is this who I want to be? Why do I think that I need this? Is this something that somebody told me I needed?" -The importance of a consistent morning practice and what that Kelly’s looks and feels like. -Connection to higher power and divine source -- how Kelly believes this power is rooting for her to succeed and it comes through in intuitive hits of awareness. "When I meditate, I don’t get voices speaking to me… I just get really still because usually up there in my brain I’m a hot mess." -The origin of the title “inner voice coach” and how that relates to her career as a professional flutist and teacher. -The challenge of trusting your inner voice and how it relates to risk taking. -The through line of Kelly’s life and work in music, triathlon and coaching. -Growth and learning through fear and failure. -Kelly’s struggle with perfectionism and how it carried over into her journey into motherhood with a child with special needs. "I had this amazing realization that in order to love him just how he is, I needed to love myself just how I am." -One of the main sources of dissatisfaction in life is not authentically being who you are, and it can be scary to practice that authenticity. -The importance of community and people who can hold space to accept you no matter what. -How Kelly feels about sharing vulnerably and publicly online through her podcast. As a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer since 2007, Casey has led countless groups through workshops and classes that have left them feeling empowered and excited about parenting. She also offers online classes and individual coaching at www.joyfulcourage.com.   Casey lives in the PacificNorthwest with her greatest teachers – her husband and adolescent kids. Here are a few of the big topics we talked about: The importance of surrendering to the outcome of any given situation. Letting go of our control and just being present to what is. What would it look like to give people space to be who they are instead of trying to make them who we want them to be. Tapping into intention and applying it to our way of being. The practice of surrendering over and over again. Learning how to process our own emotions is a life skill we need to develop. The danger of using relationships to seek validation in our own lives. Surrendering to our own imperfection. What it feels like to be honest with yourself about who you are. How to begin to understand our generational stories we carry with us, and how to surrender in our complex relationships with our mothers. In Casey's Voice: “I'm going to surrender to whatever shows up.” “We are all in the creation of the experiences we are having.” “What real self-esteem is is a learning and appreciation of who you are through your experience.” “It's an emotional experience to be in relationship.”   If you love In Her Voice and are finding value in it, I would ask that you SHARE with someone who could really use it! This weeks guest shares her long journey to believing that she is enough, just as she is, as a mother.  When her first son was born, she struggled with resentment and grief as she felt the pressure to be perfect and knew she couldn't be.  Over the years she struggled more and more with her relationship with her son, reaching a point where she felt there was something wrong with her because she didn't want to be around him. It wasn't until years after Kelly's son was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome at age 5 that her turning point came when she began to understand that she had always been conditioned to perform for worthiness and that this had carried over to her experience of being a mother. Learning to let go of perfectionism and her need for control was an important part of her journey, and now Kelly helps others do the same through her coaching work. Kelly gets real about learning how to understand her son's needs and advocate for him, what it's like to embrace imperfection, and how she has stopped "hustling for her worthiness", in the words of Brene Brown. In This Episode: How never feeling like she was good enough as a child led to her becoming addicted to external validation   Being imperfect as a mother made her feel like she was failing   Being vulnerable can be in sharing of the hard moments of motherhood but also in believing in yourself and letting people see that   How her son's Aspergers diagnosis helped Kelly move towards believing she was enough   Learning to advocate for her son and teaching him to advocate for himself as he got older   The need for more moms to stand up and say "this is freaking hard"   Learning not to dismiss our own struggles just because someone else "has it worse"   Exploring personality type through The Enneagram   A special visualization Kelly does to help conceptualize your inherent worthiness   Kelly's year of Intentional Underacheiving   Learning to recognize and listen to your inner voice   Kelly's invitation to join her private Facebook Group: The Worthy Collective About Our Guest: Kelly Covert is an inner voice coach with a passion for helping women lay down their lifelong habits of perfectionism and chronic overachieving, so they can listen to their inner voice and love themselves fully every single day.  Through her coaching, online programs, writing and speaking, she is creating a movement of women that are practicing worthy now instead of worthy if or when.
