Ted Nasmith has been creating visions of Middle-earth since the early 1970s when he decided to send JRR Tolkien one of his early pieces--and the professor responded with encouragement! In addition to being the sole featured artist in 12 Tolkien calendars (2022 most recently), he worked closely with Christopher Tolkien to create the incredible illustrated Silmarillion in 1998. Michael and I had the privilege of discussing not just his inspiration and visions of Tolkien, but also: What kinds of paintings are the greatest challenge? Why he wasn't involved in Peter Jackson's films --and what he thinks of them! How will AI art impact artists like him? Then, join us in our extended episode (https://theonering.com/members) where we: Which place in Middle-earth inspires him most? What art styles inspire him? Who is HIS favorite Middle-earth artist? What's his take on upcoming War of the Rohirrim Film? And our infamous Confessions from the Comfy Chair, including: What level of Dante's Hell does The Rings of Power belong in? What's the nerdiest thing he's ever done? Who is his favorite Tolkien character? What cheesy movie or book does he like?

Talking Tolkien for just a single podcast is a disservice, especially when you consider that the film trilogies for both "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" are (almost) as culturally significant as the books upon which they are based. There are films and TV series which many believe possible only because the fantasy film fanbase grew in the wake of Peter Jackson's epic adaptation of the War of the One Ring.
In honor of J. R. R. Tolkien's birthday, and, Semi Bookish decided to take to the microphone to talk about the man often referred to as the Father of Modern Fantasy Literature. We'll talk about the Lord of the Rings, too, and we might even tread lightly over the films and the upcoming "Rings of Power."

I am glad that you're here with us, listeners, here at the end of all things. Joining me from California is writer, artist, astrologer, editor of Archai: The Journal of Archetypal Cosmology and doctoral student, Becca Tarnas. Becca’s current research is an examination of the convergence of images between Tolkien’s work and Jung’s work in his Red Book… as well as an exploration of the implications of such a convergence. This is an absolutely fantastic discussion (literally). We cover the origins of Middle Earth, the composition of the Red Book, syncs and coincidences, the role of the imaginal and the mythic in ecology and the rise of diverse voices. Love. It. Show Notes Becca's website Becca's presentation; The Red Book and The Red Book
