Welcome to the Undeniable Level Up Podcast where we provide our listeners with life hacks to leveling up in business, leveling up in your career, leveling up in your personal lives, and even leveling up in your relationships. Why strive to be average, when you can be the best version of yourself with the tools, tips and sometimes with the tricks that we provide in our discussions. Last week we discussed the superhero task of raising children, in our episode titled, “It Takes a Village.” We shared with everyone ten key components to raising a successful child and challenged everyone to incorporate those components in their own children's lives. Today we are here to talk about starting a revolution. Don't worry, we are not talking about doing anything too crazy here. We are talking about a revolution of change in your life. We just want to help you in your journey to leveling up. Starting a revolution in your life can be an exciting and transformative experience. To many a revolution is seen as a sudden, radical, and often violent change in the political, social, or economic order of society. However, they can also be peaceful and involve changes in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that lead to a significant transformation in society. Historical examples include the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany and the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. We are a couple months into the year now and if you are finding it hard to make those moves you know you want to and many times need to in your life, we have you covered. Today, we are going to start a revolution. The American Revolution was ignited with a speech given by Patrick Henry before the Virginia Convention in Richmond on March 23, 1775 where he said, “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!” I think we can all agree that we have things in our lives that we want and / or need to change. No matter who you are, this should resonate with you and if not well you are perfect. HaHa! No one is perfect, so be honest with yourself. There are 5 steps to begin with in your revolution that we want to share with you all today. 1). Change Identification 2). Goal Setting 3). Plan Creation 4). Action 5). Support So lets jump right in… 1) Change Identification – The first step in starting a revolution in your life is to identify what you want to change. It could be your career, your relationships, your health, or any other area of your life that you feel is not where you want it to be. 2) Goal Setting – Once you know what you want to change, it's important to set specific, measurable goals that will help you achieve your desired outcome. Make sure your goals are challenging yet achievable and write them down to keep yourself accountable. If this is not familiar with you, check out our podcast on “Goal Setting.” I am huge fan of writing things down for a number of reasons. For starters I personally feel like writing something down shows commitment and provides accountability. Dr. Gail Mathers, a Psychology Professor at a Dominican University of California conducted research where she concluded that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals by simply writing them down. Yes, you heard that right. Harvard University also conducted a study where they found that the 3% (yes a low number) of graduates from their MBA program who had their goals written down actually ended up earning 10 times as much as the other 97% put together (YES, PUT TOGETHER)! Guys and Gals, this is powerful! So, I utilize SMART goals when I set goals and I write it all down. At many times in my life people would laugh and me writing things down, making lists, and labeling and organizing things… but I was on to something even if I had no clue at the time. I set goals, I write them down, I reference them frequently adjusting as necesarry, and I crush them! 3) Plan Creation – I'm sure we have all heard the wise statement, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” To do anything well, you have to plan. Think of this like a trip… A revolution doesn't happen overnight, so it's important to create a plan that outlines the steps you need to take to reach your goals. Break down your goals into smaller, manageable tasks and create a timeline for when you want to achieve each one.4) Action – Nothing is achieved without action. Now that you have a plan, it's time to take action. Start with the first task on your list and work your way through each one until you've accomplished your goals. Be prepared for setbacks and obstacles, but don't let them derail your progress. 5) Support – Surround yourself with support. Making big changes in your life can be challenging, so it's important to surround yourself with people who support and encourage you. Seek out like-minded individuals who are also making positive changes in their lives, and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Get a mentor and don't surround yourself with people who do not challenge you. Level-up! We challenge all of you to identify the change or changes you want and / or need to make, set goals, create a plan, take action, and surround yourself with the support you need! Remember, starting a revolution in your life take courage, commitment, and perseverance. However, the rewards can be life-changing, so don't be afraid to take the first step. https://a.co/d/h0y483L - "The Power of Now" - Eckhart Tollehttps://a.co/d/j7qywVC - "Atomic Habits" - James Clearhttps://a.co/d/7bYr3Vw - "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" - Sean Covey ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
Emerging Revolutionary War welcomes historian and author Mike Cecere to discuss his latest book: "Williamsburg at War: Virginia's Capital in the Revolutionary War." Williamsburg witnessed many crucial events during the Revolution and war. From the Stamp Tax Resolves of 1765, meetings at the Raleigh Tavern in 1769 and 1774, the gunpowder incident and formation of troops in 1775, the unanimous decision of the 5th Virginia Convention to support American independence in May 1776, the steady support of the continental army throughout the war, two brief enemy occupations in 1781, and finally, as a staging area for the Siege of Yorktown in 1781, Williamsburg played a significant role in the Revolution and Revolutionary War.
You can learn a lot about history from the public speeches that shaped this great nation. Whether it is Dr. King encouraging the civil rights movement or President Kennedy inspiring the nation to reach to the moon, public speaking is an important part of the American experience. We will go in-depth from the fiery speech that started the revolution to President Reagan standing at the Berlin Wall taunting the Soviet Union. These speeches span from the birth of a new nation, through a civil war, a great depression, and into an era of a “new birth of freedom.”In this episode, I cover the Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech by Patrick Henry (March 23, 1775).In March of 1775, the citizens of the 13 Colonies were divided. They were British citizens and many were patriotic to the Crown. However, in the five years prior to this famous speech by Patrick Henry, the colonies were in turmoil. The British military spent vast amounts of gold defending the Colonies from other nations, pirates, and Indians. Since the French and Indian war ended in 1763, the British army had set up forts to protect the colonies from incursions from the frontier. King George decided that the Colonists should be responsible for funding these military campaigns. So, he instituted a series of ever-increasing taxes on the Colonists.Angry townspeople debated in pubs throughout the 13 Colonies. However, the biggest thorn in the side of King George was Massachusetts. The Boston Massacre (1770) and the BostonTea Party (1773.) were a couple of the more famous incidents. A few months before Henry's famous speech, the First Continental Congress sent a letter of grievances to the King. They were still awaiting a reply. Then, a few weeks before the speech, the British military marched on Concord to confiscate a cache of weapons from suspected rebels. For the first time, the British military had marched on British citizens in the Colonies. The Second Continental Congress was meeting in Philadelphia. The delegates were debating whether or not to join the revolution.Meanwhile, in Richmond, Virginia, local delegates also debated about which side Virginia would back. Would they support the war effort in Massachusetts or would they support the Crown?Patrick Henry Delivers “Give Me Liberty or Give Death” Speech to Virginia Convention.Delegates at the Virginia Convention debated both the pros and the cons of the revolution. Some favored British rule. Others favored independence. That is until local attorney Patrick Henry stood to deliver one of the great American speeches of all time. In the assembly were future presidents George Washington and John Adams. The first written documentation of the full speech took place 41 years later by William Wirt. Wirt created the text based on memories of men who were in the assembly. So it is had to say how accurate the text that we have today actually is. What is a fact though is that after this famous speech, the Virginia delegation because staunch supporters of the American Revolution.Along with the “shot heard 'round the world” just a few weeks prior, the famous line from this speech became known as the start of the revolution. For full show notes, visit The Greatest Speeches in American History https://www.fearlesspresentations.com/the-greatest-speeches-in-american-history-from-revolution-to-leaders-of-the-free-world/

Introduction In the 1988 movie, “Stand and Deliver”, Jaime Escalante is a mathematics teacher in a school in a Hispanic neighbourhood. Convinced that his students have potential, he persuades them, including gang members and no-hopers in an overall underperforming school, that they could take and pass the rigorous Advanced Placement exam in calculus. Mr. Escalante, played by Edward James Olmos in this true story, convinced his students there should be more for them than the usual life for poor minorities in East LA. There is more for us than just being well informed and regular voters. We, too, must Stand and Deliver. The Silent Majority cannot stay silent any longer, or it will no longer be the majority. That is the subject of today’s 10-minute episode. Continuing In an episode on voting, commenting on America’s unqualified voters, I made the point that I am not a supporter of get-out-the-vote campaigns. I am strongly in favor of getting out the well researched, well informed vote. In today’s episode, I am taking that thought process an important step forward. Even well informed and regular voting is not enough. We must act. Speak our minds. Let others know where we stand. And do it clearly and often. “But Will, my work environment is hostile to my views; I don’t want to lose my job.” I get that. Even before the new century, before we moved back to Colorado, my wife was afraid to share her thoughts about party affiliation for fear of a negative reaction from her employer, a multinational business. “They would not fire me directly for my politics, but they’d find a way.” We are in the middle of a huge upheaval in the US, a cultural revolution that is well underway. Don’t for a second underestimate what is going on; we are in a tug-of-war for our country that is no less important, no less consequential, than the one in 1776. It is clear to all of us now what needed to be done back then, but it was not at all clear to everyone at the time what was at stake, and which side to choose. In round numbers, about half of the 2.5M people in the colonies in 1776 were pro-British, and the other half pro-Revolution. And no doubt many who were leaning one way or the other were not all that invested in their choice. About 3% of the country, 75,000 people, actively supported the fight to free the colonies from the British. “Really, Will, how could such a small percentage get anything done, much less defeat the British Empire, the greatest economic and military power the world had ever seen?” "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead, Cultural Anthropologist. Three percent of our current population is 10M people. There is nothing on earth that 10M citizens cannot do. Let’s listen to some of the Revolutionary America’s 3%: "These are the times that try men's souls." Thomas Paine, The American Crisis, December 1776. Exactly, Mr. Paine. And here we are again. "I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"-Patrick Henry, speech in the Virginia Convention, 1775. No one is asking that we make that stark choice, but devoting a part of our lives to liberty, to “...life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” is well within everyone's grasp. "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Nathan Hale, before being hanged by the British, September 1776 We are not being called to die for our country, but we are called to live for it. "Men, you are all marksmen - don't one of you fire until you see the whites of their eyes. Then fire low!" Israel Putnam, repeated by Colonel Prescott to the men, June 1775 at Bunker Hill. Unlike the early revolutionaries, we are not low on ammunition, we are not low on ideas and convictions, and we don’t have to wait until the opposition is physically upon us. BTW,

This episode starts a series I will be doing that covers famous speeches by American Patriots. Mark Twain said "be loyal to your country all the time, and loyal to your government only when it deserves it". That pretty much sums up my view on patriotism but I want to highlight what some of the great men who came before us and how the viewed patriotism. The first speech is the famous "liberty or death" speech by Patrick Henry made to the Virginia Convention on March 23, 1775. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/fringehistory/support

Of all the states that - even for a fleeting moment - thought that they might be able to go their own way and reject the Constitution, Virginia is probably the only one that really had a chance of success. But Virginia is also the center of The Enlightenment in America; and it is her leaders who have the confidence of the nation. So much so, that Madison almost won't make it home in time to be elected to the Virginia Convention, because he is busy conducting the Nations business which is entrusted to Virginia. It is here that the most eloquent Anti-federalist of all, Patrick Henry, will probably join forces with George Mason, a man who attended the Philadelphia Convention but refused to sign the final document. Together, they look to face down the Federalists. If they succeed, Virginia will not ratify and it will be likely that other States remaining to consider the Constitution will follow her example. Patrick Henry will take the lead. He has a long history of being a defender of individual, particularly religious conscience, and States rights. He has opposed Madison and Jefferson before; this time he means to pull out all of the stops to prevent what he sees as a usurpation of power from the people. Mason has become surprisingly (one might say, Samuel Adamsish) passive. Madison, having just made the convention, faces the most important task of his life...
