What causes depression? Surprisingly, depression has nothing to do with your brain and everything to do with your gut microbiome. In this video, we'll take an in-depth look at the brain-gut connection and the often overlooked relationship between depression and gut health. 0:00 Introduction: Depression explained1:17 Side effects of SSRIs1:32 St. John's wort and depression2:27 The brain-gut connection3:22 Depression and gut health3:40 Depression and gut inflammation 3:51 Antibiotics and depression4:33 L. reuteri and mental healthDepression has consistently been viewed as a chemical imbalance, but it's actually related to a problem with the gut. Depression is often treated with SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), but many studies show normal serotonin levels in people with depression.SSRIs do not fix depression and have even been called placebos by some medical professionals. They also come with serious side effects, including sexual dysfunction, decreased libido, inability to experience emotion, and worsening depression.St. John's wort affects both serotonin and dopamine. It's an anti-inflammatory and reduces cortisol, but doctors and the medical world often recommend against it despite its very few side effects. Serotonin and oxytocin are made in the gut. Oxytocin is a powerful hormone that can help with depression and stress, so gut health is at the core of mental health. The vagus nerve works as a highway that orchestrates the brain and gut connection. If you have a problem with your gut microbes, this can lead to depression. Studies have found serious microbes missing in depressed people! Gut inflammation can also alter your mood. One of the side effects of antibiotics is depression. Antibiotics erase the good bacteria that control your mood chemicals. Once wiped away, microbes don't always come back, and you could be left with an imbalance. L. reuteri is an amazing microbe that many people are missing. Dr. William Davis has shared an expert technique for cultivating L. reuteri using half and half to increase its potency. People have consumed this probiotic mixture and experienced significant health benefits such as improved sleep, muscle tone, and reduced stress. L. reuteri acts as a natural antibiotic without side effects and is found naturally in breast milk.

Optimizing Brain Health in Mid-Life: Strategies to Avoid Cognitive Decline Episode Summary: In this episode, we dive deep into the science behind cognitive decline and explore actionable solutions to optimize brain health in mid-life. As we age, protecting the brain becomes essential to prevent conditions like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and cognitive dysfunction. This episode highlights key strategies to preserve cognitive function, from nutrition and exercise to stress management and hormone balance. Tune in to learn how to proactively combat brain aging and boost cognitive performance at any age. Key Takeaways: Leaky Gut: Toxins, bacteria (LPS), and cytokines leak into the bloodstream, triggering systemic inflammation that reaches the brain. LPS & Microglial Activation: LPS from the gut triggers microglia activation in the brain, causing chronic neuroinflammation and neuronal damage, particularly affecting dopaminergic neurons. Dopamine Depletion & Mitochondrial Dysfunction: Chronic gut inflammation leads to oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and dopamine depletion, contributing to Parkinson's symptoms and cognitive decline. H. pylori Impact: H. pylori can deplete dopamine and interfere with dopamine medications in Parkinson's patients. Alpha-Synuclein Aggregation: Leaky gut can lead to the misfolding of α-synuclein proteins, which spread from the gut to the brain via the vagus nerve, worsening Parkinson's disease. Zonulin & BBB Breakdown: Increased zonulin from stress weakens both the gut lining and the BBB, allowing toxins and inflammatory molecules to cross into the brain, exacerbating neuroinflammation. In this episode, Dr. William Davis delves into the fascinating world of L. Reuteri and its impact on skin health, gut and overall well-being. Learn about the potential benefits of this probiotic strain and its connection to gut health. Topics Covered : L. Reuteri and its Benefits: Loss in Modern Populations: Dr. William Davis highlights that Lactobacillus reuteri is largely absent in modern people due to antibiotic overuse, unlike in indigenous populations and wild mammals [ 01:16 ]. Initial Benefits: Restoration of L. reuteri can lead to youthful musculature, increased oxytocin (enhancing love and affection), improved libido, and better social behavior [ 02:07 ]. Skin Health: L. reuteri dramatically increases dermal collagen, reducing wrinkles [ 02:31 ]. A clinical trial with 25 women showed a 15% increase in dermal layer thickness using L. reuteri with marine collagen peptides, hyaluronic acid, and astaxanthin [ 03:33 ]. Participants experienced more moisture and reduced wrinkle depth [ 05:19 ]. Body Composition: The same trial unexpectedly showed significant waist circumference reduction, suggesting a targeting of abdominal fat and restoration of youthful muscle [ 05:31 ]. Comparison to GLP-1 Agonists: Dr. Davis contrasts the benefits of L. reuteri with the drawbacks of drugs like Wegovy, which can lead to muscle loss and worsened health upon cessation [ 06:30 ]. Strain Specifics: Dr. Davis mentions using a specific strain, L. reuteri LRDR, in his clinical trials, chosen for its effects in animals and humans [ 09:52 ]. Dosage: Emerging evidence suggests that dosage matters, with higher doses potentially yielding better results [ 11:33 ]. Mechanisms of Action: Endotoxemia Reduction: L. reuteri helps reduce endotoxemia (bacterial breakdown products in the bloodstream), which is linked to various health issues like increased blood glucose, abdominal fat, and inflammation [ 13:39 ]. Oxytocin and Cortisol: L. reuteri increases oxytocin, suppressing appetite, and reduces cortisol levels, which are linked to abdominal fat accumulation [ 16:54 ]. Other Beneficial Bacteria and Practices: Bacillus subtilis: Dr. Davis discusses using Bacillus subtilis to make sparkling juices, utilizing the DE111 strain for CO2 production [ 19:01 ]. Saccharomyces boulardii: Recommended for minimizing gastrointestinal microbiome disruption when taking antibiotics [ 20:51 ]. Lactobacillus crispatus: Crucial for female reproductive health, reducing miscarriage risk, premature delivery, and improving vaginal health [ 22:25 ]. It can be obtained through products like Gero Fem Dophilus Advanced or by making yogurt [ 24:38 ]. Prebiotics: Role: Prebiotics feed beneficial microbes, leading to the production of metabolites like butyric acid [ 27:38 ]. Butyric Acid: Improves sleep, lowers blood pressure and sugar, reduces inflammation, and acidifies the skin, discouraging pathogens [ 28:19 ]. Types: Inulin and fructooligosaccharides are widely metabolized, but other options include galactooligosaccharides, xylooligosaccharides, and polysaccharides [ 33:51 ]. Hyaluronic acid: It is a fiber sourced from animals that blooms butyric acid producing species [ 34:35 ] Wheat: Modern Wheat Issues: Dr. Davis reiterates the problems with modern high-yield semi-dwarf wheat, including glyphosate exposure [ 37:11 ]. Differences in Wheat: The type of gliadin protein in wheat varies, affecting gastrointestinal tolerance [ 40:01 ]. Harmful Components: Amylopectin A, wheat germ agglutinin, and phytates contribute to heart disease risk, gastrointestinal toxicity, and mineral binding, respectively [ 40:23 ]. Sourdough: Fermentation reduces some harmful components but doesn't eliminate them [ 43:12 ]. Microbiome Research: SIBO: Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is common, and correcting it can be achieved by restoring lost microbes, especially those that colonize the small intestine [ 45:43 ]. Microbe Interactions: Microbes interact with each other, and understanding these interactions is crucial [ 51:10 ]. Future Directions: Oxytocin Release: Further research is needed to understand how L. reuteri causes oxytocin release and its potential to address social isolation and narcissistic behavior [ 52:48 ]. Shape and Body Composition: Focusing on targeting abdominal visceral fat and restoring muscle, rather than just weight loss [ 54:18 ]. Resources: Books: "Super Gut," "Wheat Belly" (revised and expanded), and cookbooks [ 55:53 ]. Website/Blog: WilliamDavisMD.com William Davis MD [ 49:40 ]. Membership website: The Inner Circle [ 49:54 ] One Thing for Gut Health Today: Include fermented foods like Bacillus subtilis sparkling juice or sauerkraut [ 56:51 ].   This video explores the potential of L. Reuteri for improving skin health and overall wellness by focusing on gut health. Dr. Davis provides insights into how this probiotic strain may contribute to a healthier you. The body hosts multiple microbiomes, including those in the mouth (oral microbiome), on the skin (skin microbiome), and in the vaginal area (vaginal microbiome), which must be in balance. The good bacteria in your gut microbiome help strengthen your gut lining and keep harmful bacteria under control. But things like antibiotics, herbicides like glyphosate, junk food, medications, stress, alcohol, pollution, and smoking can throw your microbiome off balance. When that happens, it can lead to fewer neurotransmitters, blood sugar issues, bad bacteria spreading into the small intestine, SIBO, inflammation, leaky gut, and allergies.Dr. William Davis has come up with an incredible way to grow your own probiotics. His work is based on research by Dr. Irina Conboy, who studied the microbe L. reuteri and its effects in rats. Rats given L. reuteri had better fur, healed faster, built more muscle, showed more interest in mating, had a stronger immune system, and even showed anticancer benefits. What's great is that these same benefits have been seen in humans, too!

The most important microbe can amplify the immune system, increase your muscle mass, and even help you live longer, but most people are missing it! Listen to this fascinating interview with Dr. William Davis as we discuss this missing microbe. Please join me in welcoming Dr. William Davis, author of “Super Gut” and pioneer in research about the most important microbe called L. reuteri.Rats given L. reuteri stayed young, active, and slender, and their fur remained thick and healthy as they aged. Their immune systems were amplified, and wound healing time was cut in half. Increased testosterone and growth hormone were observed in elderly mice, and the thymus was restored to its original size. Dr. Davis has seen all of these amazing benefits in humans! Many people are missing this microbe! L. reuteri, like other Lactobacillus species, are very susceptible to antibiotics. Dr. Davis estimates that 96% of the population is missing L. reuteri, a major factor in the SIBO epidemic.L. reuteri is a keystone microbe, which is important for the entire body's ecosystem. It's been found to increase the hormone oxytocin, traditionally regarded as the hormone of love and empathy. Oxytocin also influences body composition. Many people experience increased muscle mass after consuming L. reuteri, which can be very beneficial in combating age-related muscle loss and many other side effects of aging. You can make your own L. reuteri “yogurt” for its amazing benefits!Yogurt Maker -https://lvnta.com/lv_lrJY1A8ZLtxmwUpYdXYogurt Jars -https://lvnta.com/lv_qB2B90JNh0hQjaMoXkYogurt Containers -https://lvnta.com/lv_SFt3wnanoNkBHrf0RsL. Probiotic Link: (FLORASTOR Advanced) https://florastor.com/products/floras... These nutrient-rich liver foods aid in liver detoxification and create a vacuum effect, helping you lose weight from the midsection. To make these natural liver detox smoothies, combine the ingredients with one cup of water and one cup of ice. If you are following a strict keto diet, you may want to stick to recipes without pomegranate or papaya. If you have been doing keto for some time and feel your body can handle a small amount of these fruits—please give all of the recipes a try! Always get organic fruit when possible, and try to keep your net carbs under 50g per day. 1. Spinach and kiwi Blend 1 cup of spinach with 2 to 3 kiwis. Spinach supports healthy blood sugar and can also help remove fat from the abdomen, while kiwi has properties to protect the liver against damage. 2. Spinach and grapefruit Combine 1 cup of spinach with 1 grapefruit. Grapefruit increases your sensitivity to insulin and increases bile flow. 3. Kale and pomegranate Cruciferous vegetables like kale aid in liver detoxification and have anti-inflammatory properties. Pomegranate also decreases inflammation and prevents fat from accumulating in the liver. 4. Papaya Combine one whole chopped papaya with water and ice. Papaya is loaded with enzymes that can help digestion and decrease inflammation in the liver. 5. Celery and blueberries Combine 1 cup of chopped celery with 1 cup of blueberries. Celery Increases bile production and reduces liver inflammation. Blueberries reduce liver fat, and their polyphenols help remove excess iron from the body. 6. Cucumber and lemon Combine 1 cup of each of these ingredients. Cucumber is hydrating and has electrolytes. It increases liver detoxification and can help prevent NAFLD. Lemon can also improve liver detoxification. 7. Avocado and strawberries Combine 1 cup of each! Avocado contains glutathione, one of the most potent antioxidants, and also has reparative properties for the liver. Strawberries help increase overall liver function and metabolism and remove fat from the liver. 8. Coconut and papaya Coconut contains lauric acid, which is beneficial for the immune system. It contains MCT fat, which turns into ketones. This combination decreases inflammation and scarring on the liver. Dr. William Davis developed a recipe combining fruit juice with a friendly microbe found in Florastor. Try this beverage to support the gut and suppress diarrhea and SIBO.

Does your gut microbiome ever recover from antibiotics? If you understood what antibiotics really do to gut health, you might think twice about taking them. Antibiotics wipe out certain strains of good microbes from your gut microbiome, and they do not come back! Some of the microbes that are wiped out are called keystone microbes. If they're eliminated, it affects the entire gut microbiome ecosystem, putting you at risk for inflammatory conditions, autoimmune diseases, allergies, and more. A healthy microbiome means good immunity, low risk of disease, and sufficient neurotransmitters. An alteration of your microbiome can cause a cascade of health problems, including leaky gut, increased susceptibility to autoimmune disease, and SIBO. Polyphenols and fermented foods can help create a healthy gut microbiome. Lactobacillus reuteri is missing in around 96% of the population. It makes seven natural antibiotics and increases the population of other good microbes. It may also help prevent SIBO and increase oxytocin. Dr. William Davis created a yogurt-like product with L. reuteri using a long fermentation process. After consuming L. reuteri yogurt, many people notice the following benefits: •Restoration of youthful musculature •Increase in strength •Increase in testosterone in men over 50 •Increased libido •Increased immune response •Accelerated wound healing •Increased dermal thickness •Decreased waist circumference Without L. reuteri and other important microbes, fecal microbes could end up in the small intestine. This can lead to endotoxemia, which contributes to a range of health conditions. Ingredients for L. reuteri yogurt: 1 L. reuteri probiotic capsule 1 tbsp inulin 1 quart half & half To make L. reuteri yogurt, break open one probiotic capsule into a bowl and combine it with one tablespoon of inulin and two tablespoons (from 1 quart) of half-and-half to form a paste. Mix in the remaining quart of half-and-half and add the mixture to a yogurt maker for 36 hours at 99 degrees. Consume ½ cup of L. reuteri yogurt every day!

The health of your gut microbiome, particularly the presence of beneficial bacteria and absence of harmful bacteria in the small intestine, plays a crucial role in heart disease prevention and treatment.KISMETRecent research shows that when beneficial gut bacteria produce oxytocin, it not only improves heart health but also helps reduce social isolation and increases empathy - suggesting that gut health could play a role in addressing societal division and mental health issues.EPISODE SUMMARYDr. William Davis, a former cardiologist, explains how traditional heart disease treatments focusing on cholesterol and statin drugs have failed to reduce cardiovascular events significantly. He presents compelling evidence that gut health, particularly the presence of harmful bacteria in the small intestine (SIBO), contributes to heart disease through a process called endotoxemia. The solution involves restoring beneficial bacteria, especially Lactobacillus reuteri and Lactobacillus gasseri, through fermented foods and supplements. These bacteria help prevent harmful bacteria from moving into the small intestine while producing beneficial compounds that support heart health. Additionally, Dr. Davis emphasizes the importance of key nutrients often missing in modern diets: vitamin D, magnesium, iodine, and omega-3 fatty acids. He shares how recent clinical trials demonstrate that high-dose omega-3 supplementation can actually reverse coronary plaque buildup. The interview challenges conventional medical wisdom and offers practical, natural solutions for preventing and reversing heart disease.NOTABLE QUOTE"American healthcare is not an evidence-based process. Dr. Berg’s Healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting Podcast

Did you know that microbes play a critical role in the production of neurotransmitters? Neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and GABA travel through the nervous system to regulate your mood. Ninety percent of all your serotonin is made in the gut. The vagus nerve acts as a two-way highway between the gut microbiome and the brain. Depression and anxiety can negatively affect the gut microbiome, while problems with the gut can cause depression and anxiety. The good bacteria in the microbiome maintain and support the gut wall and keep bad bacteria in check. Antibiotics, herbicides like glyphosate, junk food, medication, stress, alcohol, pollution, and smoking diminish the microbiome. This results in fewer neurotransmitters, an alteration of blood sugar, the migration of pathogens into the small intestine, SIBO, inflammation, leaky gut, and allergies. Dr. William Davis has developed an amazing protocol for growing your own probiotics. Dr. Davis studied the work of Dr. Irina Conboy, who isolated the benefits of the microbe L. reuteri in experiments with rats. Rats given L. reuteri experience anticancer effects, a better coat, improved healing time, improved muscle tone, increased mating behavior, and an amplified immune system. All the benefits observed in rats also proved true in humans. To make L. reuteri yogurt, combine one probiotic tablet of L. reuteri, inulin prebiotic fiber, and 2 tablespoons of organic half-and-half, and mix into a paste. Once mixed, add a quart of half and half and combine thoroughly. Add this mixture to a yogurt maker and cook at 99 degrees for 36 hours. Consume a half cup per day! Most of us know that sugar is not healthy for us.  It turns out, there's a carbohydrate that is MORE dangerous than processed sugar. This carbohydrate has been touted as being healthy, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. Dr William Davis showed research that this carbohydrates, just two slices of it, spikes blood sugar levels as much as a 12 ounce can of soda or a Snickers bar! The average person in the United States consumes about 134 pounds (61 kg) of this carbohydrate per year. I personally make no exceptions with this carbohydrate! I will have feast meals and eat ice cream and sugar, but I have not had this carbohydrate in over 10 years! What is the carb? Wheat!

“We're talking about restoring microbes that reduce your wrinkles, restore youthful muscle, increase libido, [and] restore vaginal moisture,” says Dr. William Davis, author of national bestseller “Super Gut.” Good microbes, like Lactobacillus reuteri, which stimulates release of oxytocin—the “hormone of trust and empathy”—can reduce many health issues women face as they age, he says, from loss of libido to increased breast cancer risk. Dr. Davis returns to Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon for “Menopause and the Microbiome PART 2” to reveal key microbes for improving vasomotor symptoms, like hot flashes and genitourinary symptoms, like urge or stress incontinence. “A woman laughs, coughs, or sneezes and pees herself—very embarrassing ... So women have to wear diapers, or they have surgical solutions, which are horrible,” he says. However, Lactobacillus crispatus, which is lost from the vaginal microbiome of many women, can bring dramatic reduction in urinary tract infections and urge incontinence, says Dr. Davis. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

Can hormones be balanced by the microbiome? Can UTIs, STDs, and postpartum depression be reduced by good bacteria? The human body is a complex ecosystem, housing trillions of microscopic organisms, including thousands of species of bacteria, viruses, and even parasites. Each of these organisms plays a crucial role in our bodily functions. If the health of the microbiome suffers, so do we. Dr. William Davis, author of No. 1 New York Times bestseller “Wheat Belly,” reveals how modern lifestyle factors, such as taking antibiotics and being exposed to herbicides, are altering the microbiome and undermining women's health from birth through adulthood. “Young women of childbearing age have been exposed to all the disruptive factors we're all exposed to,” says Davis. What's more, females pass on bacteria and other elements of the microbiome to their offspring, influencing the health of the next generation. “The best she can do is give that child a disrupted microbiome because she herself has been disrupted.” Davis is a board-certified cardiologist. Seeing major health improvement in heart patients who made basic diet changes prompted his focus on gut health and the microbiome. A 2024 study published in Nature points to the risks of a disrupted microbiome: The offspring of microbiome-disrupted male mice had higher rates of low birth weight, severe growth restriction, and premature mortality. “There's no question that the disrupted microbiome is playing a big role ... through every phase of childhood ... and, of course, into adulthood,” says Davis. How can it be repaired? Davis joins Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon to discuss critical elements of the microbiome unique to females and how to improve its health. Tune in to discover simple, actionable steps to restore gut function, improve reproductive health, and support overall well-being. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

Good bacteria counter colon cancer, colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). What's the best way to get it? Indigenous hunter-gatherer populations in New Guinea, Kenya, and other parts of Central Africa have certain protective gut microbes that we've lost, says author of “Super Gut” Dr. William Davis. “Their health includes virtually no stomach ulcers, acid reflux, hemorrhoids ... [and other] diseases of civilization,” he adds. Twenty-five years into being a cardiologist, Dr. William Davis's attention switched sharply to gut health when he saw the dramatic results of the simple diet changes he writes about in “Wheat Belly.” But beyond diet change, “eating more fiber,” and commercial probiotics, Dr. Davis emphasizes replacing the good gut bacteria that we've lost to improve gut and overall body health. Lactobacillus reuteri is one of the good bacteria species that can be restored through a yogurt-like preparation he has developed. The bacteria colonizes the small intestine to produce bacteriocins, which are a kind of body-made antibiotic to fend off infection, says Dr. Davis. “It also ... colonizes the colon, where it has been shown to have potent anti-cancer effects,” he adds. Author of best-seller “Wheat Belly,” Dr. Davis joins Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon to reveal how gut health can be fundamentally improved, and how that improvement can be measured. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

How do wheats, grains, and sugars affect cholesterol levels? How is the wheat we eat today different from what it was just 60–70 years ago? After 25 years as a cardiologist, Dr. William Davis's attention switched sharply to gut health when he saw the dramatic results that simple dietary changes brought to his heart patients. Cutting out foods that specifically spark the creation of small low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol particles is pivotal, he says. Small LDL particles are “much more prone to oxidation, glycation; much more adherent to walls of arteries; much more likely to instigate inflammation.” “Small LDL is the driving cause of heart disease,” he says. Which foods most lead the body to produce small LDL cholesterol particles? What dietary and other measures can restore health to the microbiome? Poor diet is just one factor that has disrupted the colonies of bacteria and other microorganisms both on and within our bodies, known as our microbiome. Other factors include medications, such as antibiotics and stomach acid-blocking drugs, says Dr. Davis. The impact of this on health spans everything from depression and Alzheimer's disease to weight gain and diabetes. Author of the number-one bestseller “Wheat Belly,” Dr. William Davis joins Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon to reveal a largely ignored but vital path to overall health improvement.
