This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we're back with Dr. Ari Brown (Pediatrician + author of the iconic 411 series) for our newborn 411 episode!! We are officially in the thick of it with Rocky and we had a LONG list of questions for her (+ a TON from you guys!). We start with Dr. Ari walking us through "Hour 49" (the moment the wheels fall off after the hospital and you suddenly have a different baby!), the ONE thing no one tells you before having a newborn (spoiler: how exhausting it actually is + body recovery is REAL), & why what happens at the hospital stays at the hospital. Then we get into all things feeding: scheduled feeding vs. feeding on demand, why the first 2 hours after birth are SO critical for your milk supply, how to know if your baby is actually getting enough milk (ins, outs, weight checks!), and the FULL reflux 101 breakdown because Rocky has been spitting up like crazy and we needed answers. We get into reflux vs. reflux DISEASE (when to actually worry, the IGERQ scale you can take online to score it, and why holding your reflux baby like a loaf of bread is actually genius). Plus, a spontaneous BICKER OF THE WEEK on whether bottle temperature actually matters for newborns (Dr. Ari has thoughts!!). We also get into the REAL symptoms of cow's milk protein allergies (only 3% of babies actually have them!! And why you should NOT cut everything out of your diet), what to actually look for in your baby's poop (yellow seedy = breastfed normal, slimy mucousy = problem), diaper blowouts (when they stop and why they happen in the first place lol), fussiness & colic + Dr. Ari's take on probiotics for newborns (very fascinating!), and the chiropractic care for newborns. Plus, we get into sleep: sleep schedules in the first 3 months & when wake windows actually start to matter (spoiler: NOT in the newborn phase!). Then our “is it normal?!” questions from YOU GUYS: when newborn noises are actually concerning (consistent grunting = call your doctor!), when to actually take your baby's temperature (rectal is the only accurate way, sorry parents!), and what to expect at your follow up pediatrician appointments. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING! Timestamps: 00:00:00 Welcome back to Two Parents & A Podcast! (The 411 with Dr. Ari Brown: Newborns) 00:01:50 Is Rocky “sleeping through the night”?! What do you do when you've experienced years of symptoms and no real answers? In this episode of Follow Your Gut, Juniper shares her deeply personal story of trying to heal her son after years of reflux, eczema, food allergies, mucus-filled stools, allergies, explosive meltdowns, and being dismissed by professional after professional. This episode is for the woman or mother who knows something is off, even when labs look “normal,” even when she's told her child will “grow out of it,” and when every answer she's given feels partial, temporary, or disconnected. You'll learn why symptoms are not your body betraying you, but communication from a body asking for deeper support. Juniper explains why the body doesn't work in separate rooms, how symptoms that look unrelated are all connect back to the gut, and why clarity is the first step toward real healing. If you've been searching for answers for yourself, your child, or both, this episode will help you begin listening to the body differently. Thanks for listening! Most people assume that if a drug sits on the shelf at Costco or Walgreens, it must be pretty safe. But what if some of the most common over-the-counter (OTC) medications are among the riskiest drugs in America? On this vintage episode of Vitality Radio, Jared exposes the hidden dangers behind everyday pain relievers, sleep aids, and heartburn drugs—medicines that cause thousands of deaths every year when misused or taken long-term. You'll learn how a drug becomes “OTC,” what happens when pharmaceutical companies push for that switch, and why the FDA's approval process might not tell the whole story. Jared dives into the startling realities of PPIs like Prilosec, NSAIDs like ibuprofen, and acetaminophen (Tylenol)—uncovering their risks to the liver, kidneys, bones, and brain. He also discusses how marketing convinces consumers these drugs are harmless. Finally, Jared offers a resource for safe, natural alternatives for reflux, pain, inflammation, sleep, and immune support—options that nourish the body instead of depleting it. This episode will change the way you look at “harmless” OTC drugs and help you take real control of your health.Additional Information:#341: Your Digestive Health Supplement User's Guide. As chronic cough, hoarseness, and “silent reflux” continue to affect millions, the need for clear, science-based understanding of what's really happening in the body has never been greater. Nikki Johnston, PhD, professor of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences at MCW, will chat with us about how the digestive enzyme pepsin may drive upper-airway inflammation, complicate reflux diagnosis, and open new doors for targeted therapies and cancer-related research.

FPIES Symptoms in Babies: Why Vomiting Hours After Eating Isn't Just Gastro or RefluxThis week on the Natural Super Kids Podcast, we're talking about FPIES (Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome) — a lesser-known type of food allergy that doesn't look like a typical allergic reaction.Instead of immediate symptoms like hives or swelling, FPIES often shows up as delayed, intense vomiting hours after eating, which is why it's so commonly mistaken for gastro, reflux, or a random illness. For many parents, this leads to a long and confusing journey before getting real answers. In this episode, we explore:Why your child may be vomiting hours after eating (and why it's often missed)The key signs it could be FPIES, not gastro or refluxWhy allergy tests come back normal, even when reactions are severeThe most common trigger foods and how to start identifying patterns

Click to Send us a text!Heartburn that keeps coming back is a red flag, not a personality trait you “manage.” If you've ever wondered why acid reflux returns the moment you stop antacids or PPIs, I walk you through a different model that's especially relevant for high-demand lives like motorsports: reflux is often about pressure and control, not simply “too much stomach acid.”I break down the real gatekeeper, the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), and why stress can change its tone. That stress can be external, think travel, long schedules, sleep disruption, and constant pressure, or internal, including gut microbiome imbalance, yeast or fungal overgrowth, H. pylori, parasites, and toxic burden. When the system is under pressure, the valve can open at the wrong time and acid ends up where it doesn't belong. I also explain the counterintuitive twist: low stomach acid can slow digestion, increase fermentation, raise internal pressure, and create reflux symptoms that look like “excess.”Then we get practical and honest about the tradeoffs of common fixes. I explain why calcium-based chewable antacids can shift mineral ratios and contribute to magnesium depletion, tension, and sleep issues, and why long-term proton pump inhibitor use can reduce absorption of key nutrients like B12, iron, and magnesium while increasing downstream gut issues. You'll also hear a simple baking soda and water check that can build awareness, plus why precision functional testing is the faster path to restoring digestion, sleep, focus, and consistent performance. If you're ready to stop guessing and start correcting root causes, listen now, subscribe for more science-backed performance health, share this with someone living on antacids, and leave a review so more people can find the show.Support the showAs a token of gratitude, of course you're interested in these FREE and powerful resources, and because you enjoy the show, first be sure to leave your 5-STAR Review HERE!

Anatomy doesn't work in silos. For example, the airway affects feeding. Feeding affects growth. Reflux affects the lungs. Suddenly, one child has three subspecialists and one very full calendar. Aerodigestive medicine lives in that overlap, and while multidisciplinary teams bring powerful expertise, primary care providers are co-managing these patients. They are fielding the "is this normal" calls. They are tracking growth, advocating for these patients and helping families make sense of recommendations. In this episode, we talked to two experts about what meaningful co-management looks like, Emily DeBoer, MD, and Todd Wine, MD. Dr. DeBoer specializes in pulmonology at Children's Colorado and is a professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Wine specializes in otolaryngology and is an associate professor. Some highlights from this episode include: Which patients benefit from multidisciplinary aerodigestive care versus traditional single-specialty referrals How respiratory diagnoses impact patients How primary care clinicians can support patients Overview of aerodigestive programs across the country For more information on Children's Colorado, visit: childrenscolorado.org.

I got to sit down with Áine, the Baby Reflux Lady - a leading holistic expert in infant reflux, colic, and digestive discomfort. Drawing from her background in Traditional Chinese Medicine, nutrition, and her own journey as a mom of two babies with severe reflux, Áine shares why she refuses to accept the outdated idea that “this is just how babies are.”We dive deep into the real signs of reflux (it's not just spitting up!), why so many parents feel dismissed by “they'll grow out of it,” and how listening to your instincts can change everything. Áine explains the importance of looking at the whole baby, uncovering root causes instead of just managing symptoms, and shares practical steps for overwhelmed moms - from what pregnant mamas can watch for to simple ways to support your nervous system when things feel heavy. If you've ever been told your baby's discomfort is normal, this episode will give you permission to trust yourself and know there is another way. [If you enjoy this podcast, please give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts, so more people will find The Rational Wellness Podcast. Also check out the video version on my WeitzChiro YouTube page.] Podcast Highlights Rethinking Probiotics: Keystone Anaerobes, Butyrate, and Microbiome Ecosystems with Designs for Health Dr. Ben Weitz introduces the Rational Wellness Podcast episode challenging the assumption that gut issues are solved by adding more traditional probiotics, arguing microbiome repair is an ecosystem and function problem. He interviews Dr. Oscar Cozo and Danielle Arnold of Designs for Health about differences between transient aerobic probiotics (e.g., lactobacillus/bifidobacteria) and keystone anaerobic strains that form the microbiome's foundation, can engraft, drive down gut oxygen, and support cross-feeding. They discuss live, refrigerated delivery for anaerobes; a spore-capable keystone strain (Anaerostipes); and a case study showing improved food allergies, normalization of Akkermansia, increased butyrate-related effects, and reduction of opportunists without antimicrobials. They cover butyrate's roles (tight junctions, mucus, immune regulation, HDAC inhibition), fiber and resistant starch strategies, stool testing (GI-MAP additions for anaerobes and short-chain fatty acids), diet restriction concerns, and practitioner support and case report publishing with Designs for Health. 00:00 Show Intro and Mission 01:00 Probiotics vs Ecosystem Thinking 02:56 Aerobes vs Anaerobes Explained 07:06 Keystone Species and Engraftment 09:18 New Anaerobic Strains and Allergy Research 11:06 Live Shipping and Feeding the Strains 14:03 Case Study Crowding Out Dysbiosis 18:03 Rethinking the Five R Protocol 24:26 Testing and Prebiotic Pairings 26:52 Butyrate and Microbiome Benefits 28:40 Conventional Probiotics Still Matter 35:04 Sponsor Break Apollo Wearable 36:37 Crowding Out Pathogens and Fungi Role 39:58 Archaea and Mucosa 41:21 Mucus Layer and Biofilms 43:11 Feeding Keystone Microbes 44:18 Fiber Targets and Tolerance 46:51 Probiotic as SIBO Option 48:54 Resistant Starch Basics 51:52 Stool Test Dysbiosis Patterns 54:32 Akkermansia and Metabolism 56:44 Histamine Bugs and Enzymes 01:02:26 Gut Healing Nutrients 01:05:34 Diet Diversity and Reintros 01:08:21 Wrap Up and Product Details 01:13:10 Podcast Outro and Clinic Info Dr. Oscar Coatzee has over 25 years experience in psychology and nutrition and is currently the VP of clinical education and practitioner support at Designs For Health.
